Fallout 4 Modding MO2 download from Nexus not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 15:55

Hey I am trying to mod Fallout 4 but the download from nexus directly to mo2 does not work. I used https://github.com/Furglitch/modorganizer2-linux-installer?tab=readme-ov-file this installer for Mo2 and have all the dependecies. Installation through manual download works like normal and Mo2 is connected to nexus. The Message i get after pressing download says "Failed to start download:".I am using linux mint and are relatively new to linux so it may be a stupidity issue.

I missed GPU-Z on Linux, so I built an open-source alternative: GPU-T. Supports AMD GPUs (for now). Thoughts?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 15:42

Hi everyone! I'd like to share with you my new Linux-only tool: GPU-T, which mimics the original GPU-Z. It's an early version right now and works only for AMD GPUs, but I plan to add support for NVIDIA GPUs in the future.

If you want to test the tool yourself (early version - work in progress!) - you can grab the source/binary here:

https://github.com/lseurttyuu/GPU-T

The app is written in .NET/Avalonia and shipped as an AppImage (simply download, grant execute permissions, and run).

It should work on most modern Linux distros. Let me know what you think about it - is this something you'd like to see developed further?

CachyOS frequent Stuttering in games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 15:18

This is a general update to previous post I made about an issue I'm facing due to stuttering when playing games that started happening/became noticeable when i got a new 180Hz 1440p monitor.

I Have tried:

  • LTS Kernel, 6.12.63-2-cachyos-lts up to the most recent lts (partially works, reduces the stuttering substantially but isn't a perfect solution);

  • Installing the gaming packages through the cachyos "hello" screen;

  • Gamescope;

  • Different Schedulers;

  • Different proton/Lutris arguments like LD_PRELOAD="" game-performance %command%

  • Different Displayport cables and outputs;

  • setting the shader cache size to 12GB

Clues and potentially relevant information:

  • I noticed some stuttering happening on the desktop too while dragging windows with and without games running, with different intensities;

-I have installed CachyOS from scratch and the problem persists;

  • Waiting it out in game area sometimes reduces the stuttering a bit but it comes back as soon as I move;

  • Sometimes, I start a game that previoulsy had stuttering issues with the regular kernel and the stuttering is gone/minimal but comes back after a while;

  • The stuttering happens about every ~1-3 seconds when at its worse, and about every ~8 seconds at its best;

-Probably unrelated but the gpu has pretty loud coil whine at high fps/high load;

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800XT

GPU: Radeon RX 9070 XT ASRock Taichi

RAM: 32GB 3600 MT/s

Storage 1TB Samsung NVME SSD

1440p 180Hz monitor Freesync/VRR ON

1080p 75Hz

CachyOS w KDE plasma. Running the latest packages

Kernel: 6.18.2-2.cachyos up to the latest as of today.

If you have any ideas, I would really appreciate any advice on this.

World of Warcraft TBC (Anniversary) - Mods unable to read content packs (BigWigs, BtWQuests, etc)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 13:25

I've been playing World of Warcraft TBC (Anniversary) since the pre-patch dropped 4 weeks ago. It's been working amazingly smooth on Bazzite, launched through Faugus. The Linux native Curse client is also surprisingly robust.

The only thing I can't seem to figure out is that some mods require "content packs", for example BigWigs requires the base addon, then BigWigs_TheBurningCrusade as well. Another example is BtWQuests as base, and "BtwQuests: The Burning Crusade".

But it seems that these addons are unable to read the content packs, they simply complain that I don't have them installed at all. The permissions are 755 on all folders and 744 on all items inside the folders.

Has anyone noticed the same issue, and hopefully found a solution to this? :)

Something about the performance with Windows and Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 13:19

This post isn't about promoting Linux and neither about disparaging Windows. No, but simply sharing the findings.

When in Linux environment, everything apparently works and opens quick and snappy. Application launch times like File Manager and Web Browser are very much instantaneous with just a button click and it snaps right away. Unlike Windows, even launching and navigating Explorer doesn't seem as snappy. It is fast, but still isn't quite as quick. Linux reminds more of back in the days of Windows XP where there is no clutter and annoyances and not a lot of complications and bloatware around.

Now here is the interesting thing (maybe)... Linux still feels just as snappy even with processor boost frequencies disabled!!! That's right, only the base clocks. That's a lot of power saved and less heat. Now that is something isn't it?

Just what's going on with Windows? Isn't it supposed get better through its upgraded iterations? Is there somewhat downgraded with its scheduler or something?

Let's keep aside the slopware/bloatware, but for the performance side of things... Something doesn't seem to be okay with Windows especially considering how fast modern processors have gotten. Even what is considered as a "modern day's slowest CPU" should be fast enough for OSes today no?. The launch times of basic programs like Explorer, Notepad, Paint, Settings app seems like they need a couple of seconds. Linux utilizes the same hardware and yet almost everything feels snappier there (Again, this is not at all about promoting Linux).

Apparently, Windows 11 requires "pre-loading" programs on start-up and memory so they will "launch quicker". Microsoft Edge web browser by default does that. The recent news indicate that they might do the same with "Explorer" too. And, Linux do not do any preloading and yet, it's quick.

Now, this may read like exaggeration, but isn't it what it is that Windows is getting downgraded by update over update? (Of course, not an OS engineer or anything like that).

Now what is just a bit surprising is that, not only for the launch times, but on AMD Ryzen (Zen 3 Mobile) 6 Core CPU with Integrated Graphics, games like Prototype runs around ~24-45 FPS on Windows 11 and... the same game runs around 60-90 FPS on Linux! That game can possibly run at a consistent 60 frames on Linux! That's just one of the examples. That is in fact a significant difference isn't it? That is not even a native Linux port. Yeah ... yeah... it depends on the hardware and drivers but still...

Now that Windows is (or has to) focus on the AI stuff, may be it isn't of the priority to certainly "fix" or improve performance on the current or coming newer iterations of Windows.

How does Windows / Linux perform on your machines? Well, unless comparing side-by-side, one may not know the difference anyway.

Getting Proton to work with non-steam games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 12:45

I recently switched to Kubuntu from Windows after the AI push and I've been trying to get my games to work again. Had gotten Crosscode off of Itch.io in a bundle and I tried adding it to Steam to launch it from there but it keeps bringing me to the store page and prompting me to purchase it again when I try to launch it. Does anyone know a way around this?

Help with recovering game save files in bottles

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 12:39

I use bottles to play persona 5 royal on fedora 43.Recently the bottle just crashed into a black screen. I decided to delete the bottle and remade a fresh bottle. The game launches but my dumbass didnt realise that unlike windows save files are associated with the previous bottle. I went into

~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/bottles/

This path only contains my newest bottle.

I use the flatpak version of bottles with flatseal giving it full access to my drive.

Pls help I lost a good amount of progress.....

It's driving me insane to see how fast Linux update is

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 12:38

You can do whatever you have in background while Linux is updating the system with no loss performance. Beside on Windows side, Windows Update uses too more resources and take too much time to update the system.

Kubunutu 24.04 slow steam download and slowing down the whole Network

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. Februar 2026 - 12:16

Hi all,

I have recently switched to Kubuntu and so far everything works fine, except the download speed in steam.

Here are the symptoms:
My internet connection is 1000mbit/s up and 250mbit/s down. I can confirm that doing various speedtests, the connection works fine on linux and on windows.
When I try to download a game from steam, I only get 20mbit/s at best.
The most interesting part is, that as soon as I start downloading something on steam, my whole internet becomes slow and sluggish. And not just on my PC but also on my wifes PC and on my Phone and so on. So everything becomes very slow. When I ping 8.8.8.8 during a download I get a ping of 1-2s.
As soon as I stop/pause the download, it takes a few seconds, then the internet is fine again.
I am dualbooting windows on the PC (for now) and when I go into Windows I can download stuff from steam with 800-900mbit/s and even then, the internet connection is fine, so it is a Linux related issue.

What have I tried so far to fix it:
Ofc I have searched the internet for solutions and there are a bunch out there, but so far, none have worked for me. Here is what I already tried:

Unfortunately nothing helps so far. It is a bit frustrating, since everything else that I need seems to work on Kubuntu. I managed to install some games by transferring them from my wifes PC and I can play those without any issues. Any other download on the PC also works without any issues.

I would appreciate if anybody can point me to other things to try since I am running out of options myself and I would really like to switch to linux but this is quite the dealbreaker since I do game a lot on my PC.

Any help is appreciated and thx in advance

EDIT: formatting

EDIT2: I found a "solution", if I switch to WIFI (same Router) everything works fine I can download stuff (6000-700mbit/s with wifi) from steam. So the Problem only exists with my wired connection and on steam downloads, everything else works fine and my pings are fine during downloads on steam.
