GPU fan ramping issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 23. September 2025 - 01:38

Hi! I have been using Bazzite for a while now (60 days) and didn't get much time to play initially as I only played for 20-30 mins a day. I finally got a strech of free time and I played for few hours for the past few days. Bazzite has been smooth and trouble free for me but I am now presented with a a very peculiar issue.

I have a Ryzen 7 5700X + RX 9060 XT 16GB setup. I only use it to play games. It was running properly till yesterday and all of a sudden while I was playing Horizon Zero Dawn remastered, the fans suddenly started ramping more than 50% (crossing 3800 RPM). Then it's drops down to Zero RPM mode for 10-15 seconds and then the fan again ramps up to 3800 RPM and make a huge fan noise for 5-10 seconds and the cycle keeps occuring again and again.

I tried to adjust the fan curves with LACT & CoolerControl but nothing worked.

This issue simply doesn't exist while I install windows 11.

Please guide me through this issue.

PC Gamers who are against Bazzite because of its atomic nature, what is it exactly that you do with write access in the root folder that isn't available as a flatpak or configured out of the box with Bazzite?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 23:56

I genuinely have no idea what it is that people, specifically gamers, are missing from being able to mess with their root folder. It's bizarre to me that people advise against Bazzite for people who are specifically new to Linux and switching from Windows for this reason. What are you doing that you can't do with flatpak, appimages, or distrobox?

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Black Screen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 23:15

Hello, I am on Arch Linux (Wayland) with an Intel UHD 620. I have already tried clearing the shader cache, using Proton Experimental, GE-Proton, and launch options like PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 and gamescope. The problem is the same.

SCP-087-B weird graphical issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 23:09

I got the urge to replay this classic SCP game a couple days ago on my Linux pc. Unfortunately however I noticed these really annoying 'shadows' that keep constantly blocking my view, the game's supposed to have a dark fog several feet in front of you at all times, but it's not supposed to become that dark to the point where you no longer can see anything.

It sorta makes it unfair as you're supposed to see if the SCP is in front of you or not at certain times, causing accidental deaths.

I've tried numerous things to resolve this, using different wine versions, proton, ge-proton etc.. Trying different windows versions, other resolutions, running it using integrated graphics. So far nothing works.

(PS.) I maxed out the brightness in the options.ini to make it more visible in video.

Help me with usevia on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 22:36

I have a QMK/VIA keyboard, and I'm currently using Arch Linux (btw), and every time that I want to make any configuration using the VIA website I need to use "chmod" to give me permission to write the respectively ¨/dev/hidraw"of the keyboard.

What is the issue with that? everytime that I reboot my computer, I have to run the same command over and over again. I wanted to make the changes persistent because firstly it is a bit annoying to run the command every single time and also because my girlfriend also use my computer, and she doesn't like to use the terminal at all since she is not well versed in computers.

If you guys have any alternative or can provide some insights to this issue, I'll be glad!

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers fatal error on launch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 22:25

Anyone else experienced this before? Runs fine in WIndows but throws this error for me every time on launch. Tried changing versions of Proton, verifying files, and removing any config files.

I just got the game today and saw that they had pushed a 1.6 patch and wasn't sure if maybe that has broken compatibility?

Does online work in Sonic Racing Crossworlds?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 22:14

I bought deluxe edition pre order but when I started it today all online options are off. Is that because of linux or because of something else? I used GE Proton 10-10. Maybe I'm panicking too early 😅

Will I be able to run my games if they aren't bound to steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 21:24

So I've been considering linux because of windows dropping support for 10. However I have quite a lot of games on that pc I'm planning to switch on that I didn't get through steam but through... I'll just say means ahem ahem🏴‍☠️. But now I wonder how those games will behave if I do switch, none of them are online and they have relatively low requirements as they all run well on my Geforce 550 though I plan on upgrading to 650 soon. Will they work or not? I've used Linux a lot before but it was before my gaming days so I'm quite unsure.

How to read a Proton Log file?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 20:52

I have a few games that are well rated on ProtonDB, but for one reason or another won't launch or crashes. Ive used the PROTON_LOG=1 command to get the log files for each game, but when looking at them I don't know where to start when it comes to determine what causes the crashes. Is there a guide or tool to help interpret these log files?

Dying Light: The Beast | 1080p | Radeon 890M | CachyOS | Losless Scaling

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 20:38

I’m using the Minisforum Ai X1 Pro, which has a Radeon RX 890M and a Ryzen 9 HX370. The game runs smoothly on my system right out of the box; however, like in most modern games, lossless scaling and an upscaler are essential for achieving a decent frame rate. In this case, I used TAAU, which provides better image quality than FSR in my opinion, and I set lossless scaling to 2x. Again, lossless scaling feels better than Frame Generation. Lastly, I am using the medium preset.

Indoor areas are easy to get solid fps; however, outdoor areas are a different story. Outdoors, the fps can drop under 60, but it still doesn't ruin the experience.

Is CachyOS a good choice as a daily driver for gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 20:09

Hey everyone,

I’m thinking about using CachyOS as my main daily driver. I mostly play single-player games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Is CachyOS a good choice for this? I’m mainly concerned about stability, drivers, and overall gaming performance.

Overwatch 2 on older laptop with 8gb of ram

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 20:05

I have an older laptop with i7 4700hq, gtx 850m and 8gb of ram. I used to play overwatch on it back when it was still a 6v6 game. After that I bought a new gpu for my main pc and played on it ever since.

In the meantime overwatch 2 released and now windows 10 is reaching end of life so I decided to use the laptop as a toy to test out linux. I was positively surprised by not having to fish for bluetooth and touchpad drivers and whatnot, but I figured I'd try overwatch and oooh boy...

Ram usage slowly climbs until it fils up the entire 8gb and laptop freezes. Game sounds still work for a while but I'm then kicked to login screen with game reporting it's working at 0 fps. The only way to restart is to hold down the power button.

Is there anything I can do to fix this (apart from upgrading the ram) or do I just need to accept that ow2 won't work?
