Running Friday Night Funkin' mods through Wine/Proton and its problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26. Mai 2024 - 13:18

A while ago the new Friday Night Funkin' update released, so it got me on nostalgia path to play some legendary mods for this game. Every one of them doesn't have a native linux version, so the only way to play them is through wine/proton. And there's where some problems begin.

I tried to play them through adding them in Lutris and running them under custom wine build (wine-ge-8-26-x86_64), but the mod doesn't run or it does run (if not with wine-ge, then with native wine package (9.8) or Proton (tried GE and Experimental)), but there are problems with sprites sizes, as they're not adjusted to the windows size correctly.

Here's the video of how it looks:

running Bob and Bosip mod, using Proton Experimental

And here's the log from Lutris (was running Proton GE this time, but no difference from Experimental): https://pastebin.com/pmYrNfUQ

I tried running it with Gamescope, and it solves the problem above, but creates another in return, screen flickering. In most FNF mods it happens during cutscenes and dialogs only, and it is kind of acceptable for me, as it wasn't affecting the gameplay. But Bob and Bosip mod (the one on the video above) goes a step further with this, as the whole interface during gameplay flickers, making it unplayable.

Here's how it looks (the video is freezing af for some reason, but you can spot the issue even with freezes):

https://youtu.be/stQqeio8DjA

And here's the log for that: https://pastebin.com/5DfmQ64W

Tried importing manually extension-webm.dll, that's in the mod folder - didn't help.

Tried with both Wine and Proton - no difference whatsoever.

If there'll be way to solve one of these two issues, I can call the issue overall solved.

Here's my spec for last

Distro: Arch btw.

Kernel: 6.9.1-arch1-2

WM: XMonad (X11).

CPU: Intel i5-12450H

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Mobile

I'm using laptop, Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15IAH7.

Crosspost - RTSS like for Linux.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26. Mai 2024 - 13:09

Hi all. Probably a better community to ask this in. As the title says, I have a secondary 7 inch monitor I ran with windows just for sensor readouts. I used Riva Tuner for that purpose and it worked beautifully. Anyone know of anything similar for Linux? I really like being able to keep an eye on my hardware at a glance. I'm on Fedora 40 if that makes a difference.

A few questions about sensor monitoring.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26. Mai 2024 - 13:09

I got a new GPU and it's way beefier than what i had, so i'm trying to see if the temperatures are safe. I know those throttle and shut down before they can damage themselves but still, better safe than sorry.

This is the output of sensors command in the terminal.

I use Arch Linux, and did the sensors-detect first, just the default answers like it suggests - this is what it detected.

I've noticed quite a few of those aren't idk, calibrated properly or don't work? What's with all the "ALARM" messages?

Also, which one is which?

amdgpu-pci-0300 - this is the GPU i assume, right?
CPUTIN - this is the CPU temperature?
I guess nvme-pci-0600 and 0800 are the 2 nvme drives, but what about the other sensors? What are those for?

Also, i know about the watch command that will keep this running every X seconds, but can i prune this output a bit? To just show the CPU, GPU and a few other temperatures and fan speeds?

Thanks!

EDIT: I'm sorry about the janky code, apparently putting everything in a code block does nothing, and half the text ends up outside of it. Idk how to fix it so here's a pastebin link:

[issue] Some steam games creates system lag

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26. Mai 2024 - 11:23

Hi everyone,

I am currently using Ubuntu 24.04 (Gnome flavor). Although I have been using Linux for a few years, I am very new to gaming on PCs in general. Just to give you a general idea, I have recently bought a few lightweight games on Steam. some of them work properly but some cause heavy lag on the system (almost 100% processor utilization), and sometimes even crash the system.

Games that I have bought:

  • Hollow Knight
  • Rain World
  • Foundation
  • Kings and Castles

So Foundation and Kings and Castles seem to work okay, For Hollow Knight and Rain World, I face this issue after 2-3 minutes of gameplay. I have tried using different versions of Proton but the results are the same.

I am adding my system details below. I think this might be related to integrated graphic card, but I am not sure.

Hardware Information:
  • **Memory:** 16.0 GiB
  • **Processor:** Intel® Core™ i5-7200U × 4
  • **Graphics:** Intel® HD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2)
  • **Graphics 1:** AMD Radeon™ R5 M445 Series
  • **Disk Capacity:** 1.0 TB
Software Information:
  • **Firmware Version:** 1.5.0
  • **OS Name:** Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
  • **OS Type:** 64-bit
  • **GNOME Version:** 46
  • **Windowing System:** Wayland
  • **Kernel-Version:** Linux 6.8.0-31-generic

Thank you for the read, I hope someone can help here.

KDE Plasma 6.1 with HDR and VRR for Games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26. Mai 2024 - 09:35

I’ve been looking into switching to Wayland now with Nvidia 555 and explicit sync support, but I’m a bit confused with one aspect.

In what I’ve read, HDR support requires gamescope, but gamescope nested doesn’t support VRR (e.g. G-sync). Is there a way to run both games with both supported? I want to run nested mode since I have Discord etc running in the background.

I know X11 doesn’t support HDR at all, but I’ve got VRR working there so not sure if I should switch yet until I’ve got VRR + HDR working.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Minecraft linux with remote control

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26. Mai 2024 - 08:52

Hi, My kids want to play minecraft, but i only have an ubuntu 20.04 machine and wont investbin a playstation or gamecube.

I did find an installer that works ok in the demo version. There s also an option to buy the game which I am considering.

My question is: is there any way to play with a remote control? Now I can onky use mouse+keyboard. I plugged my remote (that works woth other online games like old-school Mario) but it does not work. I tried to set the controls in the game setting but to no avail. Is it an issue with my remote? Are there any brwnds that would work? Any tips?

Thanks

Unsupported Graphics Card detected error

Trying to play kingdom come deliverance on Manjarao Linux and I get the following error. I activated proton experimental to make it work. The gpu I use is a nvidia gtx 1650. I played it on windows with no problem but now it does not work. The manjaro installation is pretty fresh so I think but I am not sure, I need to update the gpu drives. Is there anything else that could be the cause?
