Nightreign consistently crashes at launch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 02:17

I’m using Linux Mint 22.2, kernel 6.14, Nvidia Driver 580.65.06. When I launch Elden Ring Nightreign, the easy anti cheat window appears, completes loading, and launches the game, however the game immediately crashes after that. I’ve tried changing the runtime from the Steam default to Proton Experimental, 10.0.2 beta, and 10-15 GE, and all produce the same result.

That being said, if I restart the system and launch it after, it works just fine. The issue seems to only appear after the system idles for a while.

If more information is needed to diagnose, please let me know. I haven’t been able to figure out how to launch it through the terminal to see the error messages.

Thanks!

Battlestations Pacific with kantai kessen mod running on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 01:47

This post is to help people running this game on Linux, since it require some tweaks.

** I'm using steam in flatpak, but it works for any other installation method, just adjust the paths.
** I have the original game, it will works for the "alternative" versions, but it will require to install:
dotnet40 or dotnet45, xlive.dll or xliveless.dll and directX9.
** Using directX 11 or 12 will crash the game, same for vulkan.

  1. install and run the game using proton 9.0-4 and set launch options to: PROTON_NO_D3D11; if you get a black screen it's a good thing.
  2. install protontricks from flathub
  3. download kantai kessen mod (it add a lot of content and fix a lot of bugs with xlive)Now the trick part, you need to run the protontricks and install the mod in the right folder.
  4. select the game with ID 8170 5. select run a arbitrarily executable
  5. Then the installer of kantai kessen starts it will ask for the game folder for steam on flatpak, you need to find the game files location using steam → Browse local files; In my case, from the mod installer the path will be: Z:\home\you_user\.var\app\com.valvesoftware.Steam\.steam\steam\steamapps\common\Battlestations Pacific
  6. Once everything in place you launch the game, I'm playing for 5 hours without any trouble, fps drops, etc.

Need Desperate Help Getting Assetto Corsa to Work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 01:14

As the title suggests, I cannot for the life of me get Assetto Corsa to work on my desktop. I've gotten to the point where I've installed Proton GE 10-16 using ProtonUp-Qt, but now even after installing Net 4.8 through winetricks I cannot get the game to properly launch, and I'm just honestly at a complete loss on what is wrong or where even to begin looking for errors or solutions. All clicking "yes" does is open a link on Firefox, and clicking no leads to the second error window I've included in this post.

For context on package manager details if it is necessary, I am running an Arch-based system.

Steam input not working on my controller

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 22. September 2025 - 00:24

I use a victrix bfg pro controller set to pc mode, and for all of my games that use a controller, all inputs are not registered in the game, despite being recognized by my os (Cachyos), and all inputs showing up in the steam controller tester. Any ideas on how to fix? Is there a config file I need to change? Or something else?

Swap with my stepson: my Evga 3080 ti to his Sapphire Pulse 6800xt

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 23:59

Helping my step kid build his first pc, and I've done a handful of builds. I managed to snag him a 6800xt, and I run a 3080 ti. He wants windows 11, am5, for ease of use and poor troubleshooting tech skills. I think I want to swap to bazzite, running garuda on an am4 already.

My real question is: with drivers for linux could I expect great performance from the 6800xt,mostly Overwatch 2, Resident Evil, RPGs like Clair Obscura, and he gets an upgrade on windows for running Helldivers 2 and doing 3d modeling and design?

Thoughts from y'all? I'm not the best at deciphering benchmarks. 😅

Games not receiving Steam-Input

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 23:33

I have no clue where the problem sits. I even, after a whole lot of fruitless googling turned to ChatGPT (I know, I know, but I was desperate).

So my problem is, that when using Stem-Input with my DualSense-Controller the games don’t recognize any controller as plugged in. And no input reaches the game. Though it does seem to reach steam, as per their testing-window.

Games than can natively handle the DualSense also don’t receive anything when used with Steam-Input, so I suppose it catches the signal from the controller before reaching the game. When I disable Steam-Input on those games, it works as expected (mostly, some games provide no haptics, but that’s not really important right now).

Games that don’t natively handle the DualSense can recognize the controller as plugged in, when Steam-Input is disabled and also output haptics to it, when controlled via the Keyboard. But of course can’t be controlled by the unsupported DualSense. As soon as Steam-Input is disabled they don’t recognize a controller as plugged in and also stop outputting haptics.

Major things I have tried so far (I did revert things, when they did not fix the issue) - switching to the Steam-Client Beta. - switching a game that doesn’t support the DualSense from Linux-Native to proton. - checking the udev rules that steam supplied - creating own udev rule just in case - trying out multiple games, that don’t support the DualSense. (They have the same issue) - rebooting - making sure everything is up to date. - waited a few days and updated once more. - looking on multiple related subreddits/steam forums/github issues for people with the same problem.

Notable things I haven’t tried(because I’m missing the hardware): - another DualSense. - another kind of controller.

Thank you for reading and considering to help me. And just in case it matter: I use Arch, btw.

Games freeze when fullscreen, but work fine when windowed?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 22:36

Hi,

I'm pretty new to using linux on a personal machine. I've noticed an issue with freezing in multiple different steam games recently:

  • When the game launches in fullscreen, it's frozen
  • When I alt tab and the game is briefly shown in the windowed mode, it will work properly
  • If I can manage to switch the game into windowed mode, it works fine

I've seen this behavior on a few different games, including Silksong (running the native linux version) and a few other games running in different versions proton. I know it's not an issue with proton or emulation because I saw the same behavior on Silksong running natively. What could be causing this?

I'm using an AMD 9070 GPU and an AMD Ryzen 9800 CPU on Fedora 42. I'm running games through the RPM steam distribution, not the flatpack. I've searched around but I'm not finding any options or settings related to the GPU that I could tweak to begin with. There's no equivalent of Catalyst available on Linux and most of the setting tweaks I can find are for Nvidia. I've also found a few others reporting the same issue on reddit but they all have Nvidia GPU's and so the solutions don't seem relevant to me.

Do you folks have any suggestions on how to debug this? I'm comfortable working with linux distributions professionally but have very little experience with it for gaming or desktop use.

Community Pokemon Save Repository

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 22:21

A little while ago I shared my script for backing up Pokémon saves on Linux. That got me thinking: why not make it possible for everyone to back up and share their saves in one place?

So I’ve started a community project on GitHub: a shared archive of Pokémon save files (Gen 1–7).

https://github.com/Bl1ndBeholder/community-pokemon-saves

Why contribute?

  • Back up and preserve your own adventure
  • Help content creators, speedrunners, and other fans with saves at key moments (e.g. before the Elite Four)
  • Skip replaying the same game just for trade exclusives — you can download a save from the other version instead
  • Build a snapshot of how the community has played these games over time

All saves must be legit (no cheats, no ROM hacks). The repo’s organized by generation/game/username so it stays tidy.

If you’ve got saves lying around and want to share, jump in — it only works if the community contributes.

Thanks!

Games freezing randomly until I alt tab into the game once more.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 22:14

First off I am on NVIDIA (rtx 5070Ti) on wayland with 2 monitors, which I know is not really the most stable experience currently. Games do work fine though but some games, especially games using Proton / Wine just randomly freeze untill I tab back in even though I never left the game, this happens with dying light the beast for me. I fixed it in alan wake 2 by going into winecfg and enabling fullscreen windows grabbing cursors. would anyone here know of a fix on how I could prevent dying light the beast from freezing? I use arch but I am also getting this on other DEs and Distros (currently on KDE Plasma). It may also be useful to know that I have an amd cpu (9800x3d) which has an integrated GPU.

New Version of Proton-GE

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 21:21

GloriousEggroll has released the latest version of Proton-GE (10-16). I tried to install it, but it seems to me that the content of the tarball is like the one is used to compile, I mean is not the same like the content was inside the 10-15 version… when I tried on Steam, it doesn’t recognize that it placed at the corresponding folder…

It’s just me… or I’m so stupid to don’t know how to install this latest version

Games displaying higher resolutions and fullscreen issue at native resolution

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 21:13

I have a 4K monitor (3840x2160), but games (from Steam) are displaying higher resolutions than my monitor's native one, up to 5120x2880:

https://preview.redd.it/l3tftb12jkqf1.png?width=760&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9269dbc9a19784770e82741d8c70dce56c20ff4

Also, if I set the resolution to 3840x2160, Cyberpunk 2077 does not run at fullscreen:

https://preview.redd.it/pgdvmou3jkqf1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=7980451b6112defbdc56b0c8101755f2c0d23918

And there is no option besides Windowed and Windowed Borderless.

I'm on Fedora 42 with Gnome.

Please, any ideas?

Expedition 33 + Mangohud

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 21:11

I just got Clair Obscur Expedition 33 today after wanting it since it came out but I had a surgery and finished other games in my catalogue first. Now whenever I launch Expedition 33 Mangohud pops up, once I get to title screen it dissapears and once I'm in game it is no where to be found. My graphics were auto detected as epic and I would like to see my temps and fps so that I may calibrate it to WHAT I WANT, not what the game thinks is better for me. Any fix to this, I found a bit online about this issue but no fixes, just a forum post that leads to 3 other forums wherte it has been solved but no one say's fk all about how.

This is offensive

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 21:08

Can someone tell Jay to stop talking about Linux? I don't understand how huge content creators can spew outright lies and disinformation like this without getting called out. Judging by some of the other unethical things he's done in the past, I'm almost convinced now he intentionally sabotaged his linux system.

edit: I posted the YT link with the timestamp but it seems it's not starting at the correct time. 15:42 is where he talks about linux.

Moving to Linux as a streamer

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. September 2025 - 20:44

Hi I am about to move to Linux mint on my new AMD pc, mainly for the freedom I get on there but also because I have seen a lot of videos about how performance for gaming is better on Linux nowadays. I just have a couple of questions. I play a lot of call of duty mw and now some of the newer black ops titles and also battle field. I have tried to look on ProtonDB to see what is supported but I have seen people say they have played COD on Linux but then proton is saying I won't be able to. So will I be able to play COD on Linux and if so how? Can I play VR games on Linux especially the multiplayer titles like tac assault? What is editing like on Linux? And finally can I run DAWs on Linux and if so how is the performance of a DAW on Linux? Sorry if my grammar was bad I did go through everything more than once to make sure it is readable but I am writing this with minimal sleep due to GCSEs. My GPU will be a 9080XT if it is actually going to be a thing otherwise I'm getting a 7900XTX.

Thanks for the help :)
