Guys I need help, honestly !
Okay so I am a windows 11 daily driver but the thing is my laptop battery runs out of time in 3 hrs, and I'm fed up off bloatware and ads on this thing. So finally I am going to change my OS but the thing is what distro of Linux would be good for me ? for instance I'm going to college this year so I wanna have something which is coder friendly, compatible with steam and games and for regular daily driver use. So like evryone else I tried to look up for distros and oh boy... its idk how to say too much complex for my teeny tiny brain so please recommend a distro which is beginner friendly and will be helpful for both coding and gaming

Mint on a newer hardware, all AMD setup
Hi everyone,i make this post to ask some questions regarding my specific setup,i already posted it on the Mint subreddit, but thought that it wouldn't hurt to try here too since there's more members and maybe someone here knows how to configure ROCm with Mesa (that's some black magic,i swear),i am preparing to migrate for like a year now from Windows, here are my specs:
RX 6600
Ryzen 5 3600
16gb ram
1TB NVME
I know that with specs like that i can settle for any distro really...but if i would want to settle with Mint, then:
Is it a good choice for gaming,i mean,i know that any distro can be good for that, but do i need to update kernel and mesa?
Do i really lose something by using X11 instead of Wayland on other distros? i know that KDE has HDR,VRR and all that fancy stuff, but my monitor is as plain as it gets,60hz 1080p,doesn't even have Freesync,so...i don't really gain anything from those,i suppose?
And here comes the elephant in the room...ROCm,oh boy...i don't know why this shit is so hard to install, the last time i tried i almost lost my mind and went back to Windows...is it possible to install it without going through some dependency hell and what not?
I think that's all the questions for now, thank you and i hope i explained it as best as i could (not a native speaker).

If you have a Ubisoft account and want Linux support for Siege X, please upvote my post on r6fix for visibility
Ubisoft said last year that they want to bring Siege to more platforms, and since then zero platforms have been added. However now with the release of Siege X and a few big developments I think this a good time to bring this topic back.
Just 8 upvotes as of writing this would help keep my post up. Thanks :)

[Help] Installing Tale of Two Wastelands (Gnarly Repack) on Steam Deck
Hi, I read another post where someone got the Gnarly repack installed on the Steam Deck, but MO2 couldn’t detect the game files and they couldn’t run it. I’m trying the same and hitting the same issue. Has anyone actually managed to get it working properly on the Deck? Any tips?

Aerox 9 side buttons in Linux
Hello! As someone that is considering in the near future be able to migrate from Windows to Linux.
Wanted to ask if there are other mouse than the Razer Naga that I can make work the 12 side buttons without an issue?
I play a lot World of Warcraft and those buttons are quite handy. I currently have an Aerox 9, but not even sure if the side buttons would work well if I move to Linux.
Please help!

Steam Game Recording
Hello,
I'm having a weird issue where using Game Recording to snapshot the last 30 seconds of a clip and saving it to /home/user/Videos is not working.
What it does from what I've seen is:
It creates a bunch of .m4s inside a folder `bg_269210_20250618_200321`, which is timestamped to where I actually hit the hotkey for recording.
Looking at Steam settings for Game Recording:
The folder is marked `run/user/1000/doc/xxxxxxx/Videos`.
I'm using Fedora 42, Steam Flatpak.
What could be the issue? Ideally it would output just a single .h265 file. Anyone can help?

Just switched to Manjaro, feeling very frustrated with Overwatch 2 issues
Just switched from Windows to Linux (Manjaro) because of impending death of Windows 10. On the exact same hardware I was able to play Overwatch just fine. Now it is virtually unplayable. I have been met with constant stuttering, maxed out CPU, and crashing due to memory failure. I'm just looking for help because this is all very frustrating. I bet I could help alleviate the memory issue by adding a swap file, but it is still bizarre that it's taking MORE memory on Linux than on Windows.
I'm running Overwatch through Steam which I got from flatpak (because someone on a forum somewhere said doing so reduces the issues). I've looked on the ProtonDB forum for Overwatch but people with my same issue provide no resolution, or their resolution has been ineffective, or I don't understand their resolution.
Specs (from inxi -Fza)
- Kernel: 6.12.28-1-MANJARO
- Motherboard: ASRock Z270 Pro4
- CPU: Intel Core i5-7500
- Device-1: NVIDIA GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070]
- Memory total: 16G
Please help with some advice. I don't know how to do a lot of stuff on Linux. If I can't fix this issue then I'll just go back to Windows because my experience with Linux has been way worse than I had imagined.

Simon the Sorcerer Origins adventure game announced for release in October
Want to switch to Linux, don't know where to start or if it is a good idea
Hello,
In the last months I've started thinking about switching to Linux for my gaming PC, I was thinking to wait for a SteamOS release since from what I understand it's set to release for all desktops this year. But the more time passes the more I get annoyed by Windows.
For example, today I've had crashes in Elden Ring Nightreign which I never had before (there was an update today so that could explain why but that doesn't change much to what I'll say) I checked Windows event logs to maybe have a bit more information about these crashes, I had 5 or 6 errors which were likely caused by the damned Xbox Game Bar around the time of the crashes. So I ran a Powershell command to uninstall the XGB, restarted the computer, and now whenever I launch a game I get a fcking message about "ms-gaming overlay unable to find an application go check the store" or some shit and now I'm just done
So I think i'm determined to do the transition now. I have an AMD GPU (RX 6700) and AMD CPU (Ryzen 5 5600X), I have 8x4 3200Mhz which makes it 32GB of RAM, and a B550 Gygabyte motherboard. I'm mentioning it because from what I understand it does pretty much matter when doing the switch, correct me if I'm wrong?
Besides gaming, I can sometimes use other softwares of all sorts, but not on a regular basis. I could use DAWs (Bitwig Studio in this instance, I believe they have native support for linux), Unreal Engine mostly.
So will I run in any particular problem with my usage of this PC ? How about the drivers, including GPUs ones, softwares I use for my peripherals (the one I care about the most is Steelseries GG), which distribution should I use, etc. Basically I'm searching for any resource/guide to help me get started in this.
I also saw PewDiePie talkign about his new PC which is on Linux recently, for what it's worth, should I look into it ?
Many thanks if you read this far, I wish yall a good day/evening.

RTX 5080 today??
Hey everyone! So I have been using Linux as my main system for around 3 weeks now (endeavorOS) but my main system is still on windows, as I’ve just been using my second pc as my new “main” pc (Ryzen 1700, 16gb, 2080 super) which I would like to upgrade this pc eventually……
HOWEVER… actual question now.
My main system is a 12900k,64gb, rtx 5080 (was lucky enough to get oc model for 999.999) but still f you nvidia… but how are drivers? If I threw endeavor on this machine also how much performance would I lose over windows for gaming? Just want to know the state of things as I play at 4k and don’t wanna lose any fps if I don’t have to… BUT I HATE WINDOWS WITH A BURNING PASSION!!
Thank you!

Programs opens/uses wrong Display
Some applications just don't open on or use the primary display (although properly set in settings). For Example every time I launch a game via PCSX2 in fullscreen, it switches to the secondary screen, altough it was on the normal primary Monitor before activating fullscreen. Is there an easy fix/solution for my problem? (The same also applies for the "laser pointer" from KDE connect, which only is works on secondary display.)
I am using FEDORA 42 with KDE.
Also, I installed PCSX2 via Flatpak.

Steam Recording only recording game loading screen of Hunt Showdown
This seems to be a VERY unique issue as I can't find instances of this for any games anywhere else. But as seen in the image, when I play Hunt Showdown, Steam Recording only records the initial loading splash screen. Every time I play Hunt, there is a 120 minute recording of just this screen, and I guess my mouse cursor as it goes through that one area. Important to note that this has not happened with any other games that I have played. It's always just Hunt and it's also something that happened somewhat recently, and probably started about 2-3 months ago. Prior to that, this did not occur. Not really sure what is going on, but here is some specs and settings and maybe someone has an idea of what might be going on.
Nobara 42, Kernel is 6.15.2-200.nobara.fc42.x86_64. I have an NVIDIA 4080 Super and am using the proprietary drivers (the open drivers would constantly cause my system to crash). Steam install is part of the Nobara repo, so not a flatpak.
As far as settings go in Steam Recording, I have Record in Background on and also have Enable GPU hardware encoding on.
