Epic/Heroic Woes

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juni 2024 - 03:19

I've tried many games through the Heroic launcher. GOG games work fine. Epic games do not.

I've tried so many different combinations of settings. Nothing has worked. I'll comment with screenshots of my system details and the settings for the game Control. That game, interestingly enough, will launch from the file browser, just not from Heroic. Other games have been less good about this.

Help with Skyrim Modding

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juni 2024 - 03:18

Last week, due to Microsoft's constant need to be more dystopian and creepy, I elected to finally make the long put off move to Linux (Pop!_OS) for my Plex server and gaming desktop with my wife's laptop not far behind. As such, I'm a Linux newb, but speak Command Prompt fluently and am picking up Terminal quickly. I've been modding Skyrim for the last decade on Windows and have 99% of everything working perfectly.

Here's my issue. Skyrim is behaving like SKSE isn't installed. The 'getskseversion' command returns the version and confirmation that everything is working, but there's no Mod Configuration Menu option, Alternate Start isn't working, and my texture replacers aren't loaded. It's vanilla Skyrim.

I am *assuming* that I have the plugins.txt file in the wrong place, but I'm also getting an error/warning that OpenAnimationReplacer.dll failed to load correctly, a problem for later, but whether I disable, uninstall, or leave OAR as is, none of my mods load. Plugins.txt is located at Home/Games/vortex-mod-manager/drive_c/users/ryan/Application Data/Vortex/skyrimse/plugins.txt as well as drive_c/users/ryan/AppData/Vortex/skyrimse/plugins.txt and for good measure drive_c/ryan/AppData/LocalLow/Vortex/skyrimse/plugins.txt because I'm trying everything.

Most tellingly, the 'Installed Content' tab does not list any of my installed mods.

I have Vortex installed through Lutris and the same mod list + order I was using on Windows two weeks ago. Anyone know what the hell is wrong with me and/or my Skyrim setup? Any additional information needed?

Mouse input lag (a bit floaty) in Nobora 39!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juni 2024 - 01:05

Hello! I'm only 5 days old on Linux. I've already tested Proton, Proton-GE, Wine, Lutris, and similar tools. I'm trying to play games in Lutris and using bottles. However, I'm experiencing issues with input lag, it seems to be limited to the mouse and not the keyboard. So any idea why is that? (and please be kind, I'm a newbie! :))

Here's some additional information about my setup:
- Distro: Nobora Official 39 (Nvidia) - Wayland
- Desktop Environment: KDE Plasma 6
- GPU: RTX 3060
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor

TF2 Not Launching

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. Juni 2024 - 00:19

I am trying to play tf2 on my newly installed Ubuntu 23.10 Budgie. I am getting the following error:

"Failed to create SDL window: Failed loading lib11-cb.so: lib11-xcb.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

Any ideas? I found this github issue, but the solutions there didn't seem to fix it, and I have an AMD gpu, so installing nvidia drivers wont help (lol)

Street fighter 6 has several technical issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 23:58

I'm currently on fedora 40 with a Ryzen 7 7800x3d and a GTX 1080. I'm using proprietary nvidia drivers (version 550.78). Street fighter 6 has several technical issues that really dampen my enjoyment of the game.

Sometimes it seems like the 3d model vertices get randomly offset. Sometimes it's the background (see this), but once it happened with the opponent's model, which made seeing their animations very difficult. Once this came hand in hand with low framerate.

A couple of times the entire system has frozen to the point of not even responding to the power button unless held. This may be unrelated.

Various disconnections and network problems. I get a "Mystery error occured" message that changes every time.

I've tried proton 8(didn't launch), 9, and experimental. Updated everything including firmware.

dmesg output (number of callbacks suppressed varies):

[ 4635.391018] umip_printk: 23 callbacks suppressed [ 4635.391020] umip: StreetFighter6.[142498] ip:154f6a312 sp:556ff750: SGDT instruction cannot be used by applications. Journal has a lot of stuff, none of which I really get (this was one of those deep freezes).

I would appreciate any direction with this. Would prefer not to install windows. Thinking of:

  • Selling GPU and buying AMD
  • Trying PopOs, as they apparently have good nvidia support
    • Waiting for 24.04 (and COSMIC) to come out
    • If 22.04 would work guaranteed, I'd do it
  • Yet another round of googling

How does Linux mint make nvidia drivers so easy?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 23:44

Like, what does it do? I am really new to Linux, and I find Linux Mint very easy to use. I always struggled with my nvidia gpu on other distros.

So, I want to find out how Linux Mint makes it so easy so that I can maybe try it on other distros. I want to see what goes on behind the GUI of the driver installer and also their driver switcher (from Intel, Hibrid, NVIDIA).

Because I struggle to find what they did. Like what terminal commands do they use to download the drivers, and what commands do they use to switch to NVIDIA mode or Intel mode.

Feeling comfy with Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 23:43

Hello Ladys and Gentlemen,

It‘s been a few weeks since I removed Windows completely from my Computer. But let me tell you my feelings. When I switched to Linux about 7 months ago (I still had Windows 10 somewhere ready for dual boot but never used it), it felt great to boot into Linux in that time, then I reached that point where I told to myself, it’s time to say goodbye to the Windows Disk. After removing it completely, booting into Linux does not only feel great but it feels like home and that’s a really nice feeling. I am happy that I made the switch and I am happy to be part of the community.

Greetings

Marc

Need help picking out a new headset

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 22:58

So my arctis pro wireless just broke in one of the hinges after 4-5 years of use so it's time to get a new pair of wireless headsets but since I've had a good pair of working headsets I haven't been up to date with the development of headset so I need help picking out a headset.

Some requirements are:

  • Surround sound (of course the main goal is for gaming)
  • Wireless with 2.4 or 5 GHz
  • I would prefer it have be able to connect to both bluetooth and 2.4/5
  • No software should be needed to adjust settings or to have Linux solution with full support or onboard memory.

Most headsets works out of the box but not all have surround sound active without software like the entire arctis series which is problem. So far I know of the arctis pro wireless (the pair I had) have a decent working of surround sound thanks to the DAC but it got worse in recent updates and barley worked without the software running so I would rather not go for the same pair again.

Thanks in advance for the advice, any advice is welcome even if it don't fit my requirements.

CS 2 + Ubuntu 24 + Nvidia 550.67

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 22:21

Hey guys,

I need some help, advice or experiences. My big goal is to get rid of Windows and completely switch to Linux. For this purpose I installed Ubuntu 24, which I'm fairly used to.

Everything seems to be working as expected. Steam was installed via command sudo apt install steam, installation was alright and the vulkan shaders were compiled completely before starting the game.

My hardware: * AMD Ryzen 5900X * Nvidia RTX 3090 * Installed on Samsung 980 Pro M2

However, I'm experiencing lag/stutter sometimes, which are non deterministically. I tried to fix the gpu clock rate at the highest value, but that didn't help either which could be seen via mangohud.

Running G-Sync compatible at 140 FPS on a 144 Hz monitor. V-Sync is disabled. I would be thankful for any advice or other experiences.

ReShade in Cyberpunk/BeamNG through proton help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 22:00

So Im trying to install ReShade to Cyberpunk on my Garuda OS system and I just cant get it to work.

First I tried tried downloading the normal ReShade installer and running it in the Cyberpunk Wine prefix with protontricks. And I also at some point followed this guide from this sub.

But then I found this script that would install ReShade for any game on linux. This seems to also be used in this steam deck guide so I thought it should work.

Cyberpunk is a DirectX12 64bit game, so the script identified to use 64bit and dxgi. When I followed all the instructions, started the game it didnt give me the ReShade popup and when I pressed pos1. It didnt do anything. I checked if the ini file with the keybind for the reshade menu was correct and changed it to see if it would work, but no.

Then I thought maybe dxgi wouldnt work with dx12 so I tried downloading d3d12.dll and tried replacing it with dxgi.dll and changed the winedlloverride to be d3d12. But that also didnt work. I dont even know if that even was viable in the first place because I dont know what d3d12 does but I assumed it gives support for dx12?

I also tried all this on BeamNG(dx11/vulkan) a while ago but also no luck.

After that I kinda gave up because I couldnt really find any information on it online and when I did it was old.

So does anyone know how you could get this to work?

Nvidia prime is a pain

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 21:29

prime-run %command%... sets a few environment variables, offloads rendering to your dGPU, sends it back to your iGPU for display, and you're good to go.

I bought an eGPU (1070) for my laptop. It was great for my X380, there was only one Nvidia GPU, and one Intel GPU; things were easy.

Then I got a P52, with an iGPU, a dGPU (P2000), and the eGPU (1070). The 1070 is detected in lspci and nvidia-smi just fine, the iGPU works perfectly, and the P2000 works just fine with prime-run. When I set __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD_PROVIDER=NVIDIA-G1 as an environment variable, it just gets ignored and runs on the P2000 every time.

All documentation online says that it should work for OpenGL, but it just doesn't. Am I missing something? Is Wayland causing issues? halp

Laggy CS2 on Flatpak Steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 21:22

Hi!

I recently did a clean reinstall of OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (KDE Plasma 6 under Wayland) and decided to go for Flatpak istallation of Steam in order to avoid contaminating my installation with a bunch of 32 bit packages. My graphics card is Radeon RX 6700XT and it was good enough to play Counter Strike 2 prior the reinstallation driving a 1440p monitor. I copied over my old Steam config from .config folder to the corresponding directory for Flatpaks and that seemed to work. Unfortunately, I can no longer play CS 2: while the in game FPS is hovering at 120 there is a significant lag. It's hard for me to describe what exactly is going wrong, but rendering is not responsive enough to user input (such as mouse movements). Is there a way I can diagnose this issue? I really do not want to install native Steam just to troubleshoot this issue.

Joycons won't connect to PC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 21:17

Hello. I am on Linux Mint. I'm trying to play trauma center on dolphin, but the it seems really shaky, even on the lowest sensitivity, so I wanted to try switching to using the joycons and see if maybe their gyro would work better for the pointer. Unfortunately, after installing joycond, I tried connecting them in the Bluetooth menu. On the PC, they'll connect for a split second, but then either shut off or keep flashing the connection lights. This happens regardless of if I use the sync button to try synching them or the zl + zr or l + r buttons like the joycond GitHub pages says to. Any ideas what's going on? My 8bitdo controller can connect just fine.

Switching from Win11 and FFXIV

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 20:51

Hi folks! I'm completely new to linux (to the point my husband teased me for how I pronounced it lol), but I'm considering switching due to the issues with Win11 and this AI bs and other privacy issues, nevermind that there's an increasing amount of bloat happening.

I am a gamer, hence my presence here, and while I typically buy my pc games through Steam, there is one that I did not, namely, as you can guess from the title, Final Fantasy 14. This is my primary mmo and you cannot purchase the steam client once you've bought the regular windows client, and I'm not about to abandon my service account to repurchase the game through steam. With Dawntrail on the horizon, I am trying to learn as much as I can about linux and gaming so I can have things set up to play.

I am not totally tech illiterate, but there is an overwhelming amount of tech jargon even in the faq that has my headspinning about what I need to do to happily start gaming with linux, particularly since my main game is the only one that isn't thru Steam.

Gaming and photography are the most resource intensive things I do on my computer, but I'll worry about lightroom later since my research so far indicates a lot of what I need to do to get FFXIV running is also necessary for lightroom, so I'm sure most of my questions for lightroom or alternatives to it will be easier to handle.

Including my laptop specs because it's lower end than the desktop I'll be getting in a couple weeks, but I don't have those specs atm

Gpu drivers

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 20:48

Hi, I have a big problem I’m new to Linux (Mint) and I know only few common commands in terminal So, I have laptop with gtx 1660 ti and second monitor When I install official gpu drivers from Drivers manager my pc doesn’t see second monitor. So, I use unofficial drivers (I forgot a name, but it also from Drivers manager), but I have an issues with them. When I were on Windows, I liked to use my laptop with closed lid (only with second monitor), but when I close lid on Linux, my pc starts freezing in games. It seems like my NVIDIA gpu just turns off, and I play games on intel gpu

I don’t know what to do to permit my NVIDIA gpu to turn off

Thanks

updated MTG Arena and now I'm unable to play, has anyone solved this?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 03. Juni 2024 - 20:44

I installed and played a bit of MTG Arena last month, just to playtest it, and it worked fine (extremely well actually) with Proton. Since yesterday I have been trying to play it but it gets stuck at the error "Error Updating Data, check your connection".

I have tried using a VPN, using cable, uninstalling/reinstalling and even some weird things people recommended like re-syncing the clock.

has anyone encountered this on linux and managed to solve it?
