Just a little warning for people using dolphin on arch Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 17:11

I have discovered currently when I use the dolphin file manager to copy for example my steam directory which is quite large in size just under a terabyte there seems to be an issue where randomly it will say the copying has finished and when you go to see how many files it finished on the system tray it stops at a random interval for example if I'm copying 375,000 files it will say copying has finished but it may say finished copying 200,000 files I have had this issue happen many times and the only work around I have for it at the moment is to use a completely different file manager so I am currently using Nemo I was going crazy trying to figure out why steam had to download most of my games that I copied over because it never finished copying all the files but if I do the same operations with Nemo there is no problem so I just thought I would let people know because I have experienced this several times in the latest version of kde

games in Proton should have the same performance as in Windows?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 16:37

Hello!, i have been using Mint for the past month and a half. So far its been pretty good, i haven't played lots of heavy games, just simple stuff or lightweight games. But lately ive tried some games like Battlebit Remastered, which used to run perfect on windows with high and stable fps. But on under proton (tried various versions) I noticed the game has a decent frame rate, arround 140, but sometimes drops or it feels slugish, even while having a good amount of fps, keep in mind the game always has atleast 100 fps, it rarely drops from that number. I also played Doom 2016 which had like 90 FPS or sometimes even 130 but it feel off.
My PC isn't really strong, its a Ryzen 5 5600GT with 16GB of ram, pretty basic stuff. But I wonder if this happens because i don't have a dedicated GPU and proton requires more resources or its just a bad configuration on my end.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a basic question.

Does Gsync VRR work on Bazzite?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 16:23

I have a small form factor PC connected to my LG TV running Bazzite and I'm interested in buying an RTX 4060 low profile GPU and was wondering if Gsync will work with it over HDMI? I'm pretty sure FreeSync will work with an RX 6400 low profile but the 4060 is way more powerful.

Anyone have any experience with VRR on Nvidia GPUs?

Keyboard buffer issue.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 15:36

I don't really know if it's the driver or another layer between it and my game, but I noticed when I keep a key pressed for a certain amount of time, my input lag increases quickly up to more than 1 second, making it effectively impossible to do certain things that require some degree of precision timing in said game. (Another, but less important, issue is that I can't input more than 3 keys at a time, if you have a solution for that too, please tell me)

What could the cause of this be, and how could I fix it?

For context, I play genshin on lutris with ge-proton.

Any input is welcome, thanks.

Linux has visual defects that Windows doesn't have, and how could I fix them?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 15:28

I was recently playing The Last of Us Part 2 on Linux and noticed that the game had certain image errors or glitches, such as textures suddenly appearing, and on the splash screen where there's a boat, Linux would display a kind of flickering and graininess on the edges of the 3D object that Windows doesn't display (both with the same settings because I saved the files and settings and can only switch between them).

Why does it seem like Linux sometimes has these glitches with edges, strange graininess, and flickering edges, while Windows doesn't? If you know of a way to fix this...

So: Fedora 42

Latest ProtonGE (I tested CachyOs and HotFix but it didn't change the defects)

FREESYNC: OFF

No upscaling

GPU: RX 6700XT, Driver mesa: 25.1.7 (Latest from Fedora 42)

Note: It may seem a little silly or that strange edges don't interfere with gameplay, but I'm a bit picky about it...hahaa

Issues with mouse and keyboard games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 15:14

Hello all! Thanks in advance for reading my post. I would describe my skill/experience level as intermediate, so its very possible I've missed something simple, but I've been having issues with some mouse and keyboard games on my primary desktop. To make things simpler, I'll just focus on one game (series) for this post, Supreme Commander. I would like to also mention that I'm not having these issues on my laptop (Nobara 42, Official, 7840HS, 7700s).

The primary issue that I'm having is that elements of the game do not react to cursor presence. For instance, I can click to skip the opening video, but menu items are not highlighted as they should be when the mouse is hovering over them. I have to close the game with Alt+f4 and then Enter to respond to the "Do you want to exit" dialog.

Issues:

1. Clicks do not register 2. Windowed mode does not work

Slideshow AMD

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 14:23

Here's one for ya. So my amd system periodically lags while gaming and I can't figure out a solution. The system resources are more than adequate and it doesn't happen with every game but I've noticed it with the desktop too. I'm beginning to think it's cpu related.

Ryzen 9 7900xt, RT 7900 xtx, 64gb ddr5 5600.

While gaming, it'll manifest as a slideshow and the audio gets choppy. I used to think it was a issue with pipeware but the whole system is affected. I also changed distros from kubuntu to cachyos while keeping my home partition and it still happens.

Idk if I need to tweak something in the bios or if it's a inherent flaw in that CPU. I can't afford to try different cpus and I really like this machine outside of that.

I might try windows after work for a few hours to see if it happens there. Be home in about 10 hours after this post. I've tried googling for solutions and one mentioned manually overclocking the infinity fabric and that just destabilized the whole system and made it unusable. I'm sure I'm missing something else there but I know nothing about overclocking and don't want to if I can avoid it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Which "gaming" distro for my use case? i.e 4+ controllers (Xbox, 8BitDo, Steam Controller, etc)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. August 2025 - 13:46

I now have an extra SSD so I think I can finally try actually gaming on Linux. I've been using Ubuntu for more than a decade but I never game on it for real. Recently I tried it just to check out some games and surprisingly some of them worked better than Windows (for example Stray stutters a lot after arriving to a certain early part but it doesn't happen on Linux).

So now I have a decision to make, which distro to install. I've never been a distro hopper so I want to try out the one that will actually work best for my use case 😄 I actually wanted to wait for Valve to release an official Steam OS version that can be installed on any PC. I know that already exists but I don't think it's still "officially" released.

My main choices are the following:

Bazzite, Nobara, CachyOS or my existing Ubuntu

Details of my use:

  • Will be used for splitscreen games so at least 4 controllers should work at the same time. My controllers are Xbox Series, 8BitDo Ultimate, and Steam Controller. I discovered that the Xbox's dongle needs a special driver. I assume most gaming distros have that preinstalled?
  • PC is connected to a 4K@144Hz TV and 1080p@60hz monitor. I'll obviously game on the TV. Not sure how well gaming on Linux works in multi-monitor setup. I'm hoping to get HDR, 4K@120Hz and VRR but now I remember that I read somewhere that HDMI 2.1 doesn't work on Linux, is that true?
  • I have a surround system that is connected via eARC.
  • Will only be used for gaming so minimal use of mouse and keyboard would be ideal. I can use the Steam Controller for mouse control but it seems like it doesn't work properly on Wayland
  • Human Fall Flat is a must for my nieces LOL
  • I have an AMD CPU and GPU so most likely no issue with that.
  • Ubuntu is already my main OS so I guess I can also choose to just game on it unless it's really worth using a dedicated gaming distro. For example, Xbox controller adapter doesn't work out of the box.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who'll take the time to read these 😄
