Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 12:29

(hyfetch results for specs)

so my husband gifted me fallout new vegas on steam earlier today, but every time i try to run it i get like one single frame of the pre start menu and then it crashes

ive tried 3 or 4 different versions of proton, including expirimental, hotfix, 8, and 7.2 ge because i saw it called out in a tutorial video

then i tried deleting and reinstalling it, first deleting it through steam then through my file manager, both times no change

Reccomend linux distro.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 12:21

Hello first time writing here

I am planning on switching from windows 11 to a linux distro, however i don't know anything about linux or distros in general, so i would appreciate some reccomendations on a linux distro that is closest to windows 11.

I mainly do: gaming: playing any new or old titles, modding: i use map and level editors like the hammer editor, sandbox editor, tes construction set, halo mod tools and other sdk's, scripting: making cfg/text executables and scripts for games.

My pc specs: windows 11, cpu: ryzen 7 5700x, gpu: rx 6600 xt, ram: t-force vulcan-z 4 X 8 GB (32), motherboard: tuf b450 plus gaming.

looking for feedback on my upcoming gaming pc build for nobara os

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 11:30

hey guys,

i’m putting together a new gaming pc build, and i’m planning to run nobara os. from what i’ve read, amd hardware seems to be the best supported for linux gaming, especially with drivers and performance, so i’ve gone all in on an amd-centric build.

i’ve selected all my components using pcpartpicker and wanted to get the community's feedback before pulling the trigger. here’s a quick breakdown of the components:

pic of the build from pcpartpicker. would love your input, especially if you’ve used similar components with nobara or another linux distro!

goals for this build:

  • gaming performance at 1440p and 4k.
  • nobara os for a linux-native gaming experience (and to avoid windows bloat).
  • minimal aesthetic (no rgb, clean & sleek).

i’ve heard great things about amd and nobara working well together on linux, especially in terms of driver support and game performance. i’m also hoping this will be a strong setup for the next few years, with room for upgrades if needed.

a couple of questions for the community:

  1. do i need the noctua nh-d15 for the ryzen 7 7800x3d, or is that overkill? would a noctua nh-u12s suffice?
  2. do i need a 78 liter corsair 6500x atx case, or would something much smaller do? how large roughly?
  3. is my power supply too powerful for this build? i’ve gone with the evga supernova at 850 watt. is that sufficient for this build, or should i go higher for future-proofing?
  4. and finally; has anyone tested high-end gaming performance on nobara with the 7800x3d and rx 7900 gre? are there any optimizations i should be aware of for 1440p/4k gaming?

thanks so much!

Controllers not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 11:25

I came back to my arch linux install and after getting the system updated, my controllers don't seem to be working properly. They are detected by the os when I plug them in but other than my steam controller, won't show up in the game controller window.

When I boot up any game though steam (Forza Horizon 5, Hades, Vampire Survivors), the game does not recoggniize any button presses but I can still use the steam controller to bring up the steam overlay.

Currently I have the steam contrrollerr wirreless dongle, microsoft wireless adapter, steam controller and xbox contoller pluggged in through usb.

Fsr4 on Rdna 2 with CachyOS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 10:46

Hey! So i want to try out Fsr4 on my 6800xt now that the files have leaked a few weeks ago. I heard that on Linux it's supposed to work even better and has worked for even longer but how is that possible if the leaks are newer than fsr4 on Linux? Do i need the new files or do the old guides for Fsr4 on Rdna3 still apply? Does anything change for the setup when using Rdna2?

PC crashes - need help :(

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 10:20

hey guys, i switched from Win11 to Debian13 a few days ago. I have a little Linux experience (Used Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Debian12 and Mint) but i am not that good with it (for now). I wanted to play a game with a friend of mine via Steam. Proton - check. Drivers (should be good but i am not sure). So i started the game. Loading screen. Then, after 5-8 seconds, the screen gets completly black. My GPU starts cooling as hell (getting noisy and loud) and the screen says „Power Save Mode“. Then i have to restart. This has happend a few times (i tried it with different Proton etc.) but nothing helps. I also tried other games - they worked. I have no clue.

The Game: Police Simulator - Patrol Officers — Steam Link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/997010/Police_Simulator_Patrol_Officers/

GPU: AMD Radeon 580 (an old one ik)

Thanks in advance!

Moving Windows Saves to Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 08:54

So I've recently been dual-booting Windows 11 and Fedora KDE Plasma. Dual-booting because of gaming mostly. I'd like to switch completely, but I'm worried about my non-cloud Steam Saves. I've used Game Save Manager to find all of the saves on Windows and back them up into one folder, however GSM can't restore this backup to Linux. I could maybe manage this manually? My plan is:

  1. Uninstall all games on Windows
  2. Re-install on Linux (Proton)
  3. Move non-cloud saves to their Proton equivalent folder on Linux

This will require a decent amount of work looking up all the save paths, transferring, troubleshooting etc., so just wondering if I'm missing something obvious? Is there an easier way people have done this?

Another option would be to just point Steam to a shared library on an NTFS drive, but I tried that and had a lot of issues with my system downloading the game twice for some reason (taking up 2x the storage).

Any advice greatly appreciated ☺️

How to activate game controller on wine games ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 06:55

I just use mint for the last few months. Work really well. I can even play games, native Linux and wine.

3 days ago I bought a new Logitech F310 controller. Cheap but really good when playing native games like dead cell. But when I tried to use it on wine games, apparently the controller is not recognized. There's nothing in the game input setting (I tried some titles)

How to fix it ? Do I need to install some drivers in wine ? Or need to toggle some setting? Please help

My mint is 22.1 cinnamon 6.4.8 and the wine 9.0

Thanks in advance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. September 2025 - 06:48

After the update to season 13 I get an error saying "network error" "No anti-cheat module has been found for this game and platform" when I try to launch. I've tried adding %SteamDeck=1 %command%" just in case, but this doesn't seem to help at all. Re-installed 5 times but it's still the same. Can somebody please help me.
