Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. April 2026 - 00:22

This is my whole MangoHud.config file:

core_load

gpu_power

cpu_temp

gpu_temp

gpu_core_clock

gpu_mem_clock

battery

How do I start wanting to play games again

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. April 2026 - 00:02

This is a very odd question, I'm aware, but lately I just haven't felt the desire to play anything since I installed Linux for the first time, and its not even because I struggle to get things running

I'm honestly struggling to think of what the causes are, besides some personal reasons like job searching and studying/learning Linux, but I could guess there is some sort of paranoia games WILL crash eventually and waste my time or something despite there being no indication that will happen, or that I will have to spend an hour or so of unplanned troubleshooting before things work for games I haven't launched yet.

I'm just wondering if someone has had this issue, I feel like a little bit of a weirdo for feeling like this and even asking this question here, but I was hoping someone experienced this before too

Imainge if the hackers that got accsess to Mythos used it to make the ultiamte Virtual Mashine that can 100% not be deceted by any Anti-cheat avaliable

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 23:52

Like the problem that makes many gamers dont step a foot in linux (besides form its complexity (they claim ofc)) Is that its realy not much to play in it when it comes to compative gaming. And its because of Anticheats spcialy the kernel leavel ones ( Facking Vanguard and ect) So what if someone got his hands on the best ever Ai on the planet and programed an Virtual mashine that is indistinguishable from a normal mashine in the eyes of the anticheat. Its just an idea ofc and an cool waht if scenario.

Seems like Arch-based is the way to go now

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 21:17

Unless you are willing to give up a lot of performance it seems like you need to go for something based on Arch Linux such as CachyOS (standard Arch should also work but takes a bit longer to setup).

https://preview.redd.it/x541nbzk7sxg1.png?width=2223&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d7dcd77796d1cbdc8c5a4533bc21eb0ed909aa0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyYB6H4-ohc

CachyOS does try to improve performance over standard Arch Linux such as by compiling the kernel to take advantage of newer CPU features (making it incompatible with older hardware) but from what i have seen the performance gains from that are fairly marginal.

You can of course install an optimized kernel for cachyOS even if you are using some other Arch based distribution (ill test that later).

Do we have any information about improvements for Steam home streaming from Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 20:09

I know that Steam streaming is a well worn issue in this sub. I've tried to make it work via the Steamlink app on Nvidia Shield, but couldn't get past issues like the aspect ratio being stuck at that of my PC monitor, and both the audio and video continuing to play from the PC.

With Steam Machine due to arrive at some point, and AFAIK Steam OS is a fork of Arch, hopefully Valve will see the need to address some of these long standing issues with streaming from Linux. Has anyone read anything that suggests they're considering this?

DX12 Games do not launch on NVIDIA GPU (595 open source drivers, CachyOS) (POSSIBLY only on gaming laptops)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 19:19

Hi! I have recently joined linux gaming club! I have tested many games using heroic launcher and steam, but found that dx12 games do not work with my nvidia gpu (thus, my iGPU is forcefully utilized). I found out that the issue is particularly with vkd3d not being able to initialize nvidia gpu vulkan device on windows prefix.
But that doesn't mean that vkd3d is in fault, since I suppose that Desktop Nvidia GPUs work fine with vkd3d (dx12 games on linux) right?
The key error code in proton log: 7268.416:0148:014c:err:vkd3d-proton:vkd3d_create_vk_device: Failed to create Vulkan device, vr -3.

Do you have the same issue? (everybody with any NVIDIA gpu is welcomed).
Thanks for feedback in advance!

CS2 on Ubuntu 26.04 Nvidia VRR question

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 18:47

I am considering the update on my Ubuntu desktop from 24.04.4 to 26.04. My PC specs are:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • 32.0GB Dual-Channel Corsair Vengeance @ 2399MHz (40-40-40-77)
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB

Currently on 24.04, on Counter-Strike 2, VRR doesn't really work on the native game. If I enable proton experimental VRR works, but then I cannot play on VAC secured servers. I am running official Nvidia drivers (590 I believe) and x11. I noticed that the new Ubuntu 26.04 requires all sessions to be in wayland, and added more support for VRR. I could just try it out for myself, but I would prefer not to upgrade and other things break.

Anyone tryout the new OS with the nvidia driver stack in CS2 yet?

Hep with Mouse Button Remapping

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 18:38

I made the swap to CachyOS from Windows a few months back and have been loving it.

Only thing I miss is XButtonMouseControl as it allowed me to easily remap mouse keys and they'd automatically change depending on the open application.

I'm having issues finding an alternative that works for me on Linux, I tried Input Remapper but every one I try seems to re-enable and override mouse acceleration and the DPI of the mouse.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't necessarily need it to autoswap depending on the active window but it would be nice if possible.

For example, I'd like to be able to change the side mouse buttons to CTRL and SHIFT respectively for stuff like FFXIV, so they can be held down more easily.

Linux noob needs help updating Vintage story

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. April 2026 - 18:01

Hello fellow gamers. I am a recent adoptee of Linux (mint) and I am learning every day that I am not yet proficient in software. If anyone has or knows of a good tutorial, or can give me some good step by step instructions that would be so cool.

I am literally not in any way trained on using computer software, I took one coding class like 5-6 years ago and am trying to force myself to get better at it.
