I’m hosting a fully FOSS Game Night: Luanti (Minetest) ported to WebAssembly + Open Source Discord alternative

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 17:16

I wanted to see if I could host a gaming event using a 100% FOSS tech stack without forcing anyone to download a client.

Tonight at 8pm german time, I'm testing my self-compiled Emscripten/WASM port of Luanti. It’s running VoxeLibre and allows joining exclusive web-servers and p2p gaming via a WebTransport proxy (real UDP, virtual ipv6). We are coordinating the event on Common Ground (a decentralized, browser-based Discord alternative).

It’s a stress test for the open web stack. If you're a Linux gamer or FOSS enthusiast, I'd love your feedback on the performance.

Code & Event info: https://app.cg/c/commongames/event/~vj63PMuXiafF7f175URuX2/
Stream: https://www.youtube.com/@CommonGroundGamingAlliance (starts at 8:15pm)
Or just play standalone here: https://kaesual.com (supports p2p)

Migrating to Linux after hardware upgrade - what to keep in mind?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 16:40

Hi all! I work in tech but I've always used Windows. I'm currently on a computer I built around 12 years ago that is still using the mobo and processor from 12 years ago and it's really showing its age. I'm putting aside money for a basic but future-proof AM5 upgrade which will, among other things, let me install Windows 11.

However, I was thinking: what if I don't install Windows 11? What if I make the switch to Linux and stop struggling against Windows? But neither I nor any of my friends know much about it so I'm counting on your wisdom. How will this affect my gaming? I mostly care about playing fighting games on my PC (I imagine 2XKO is out of the question due to Vanguard anticheat but that's OK). What should I keep in mind? If it matters, I have a 1TB HDD, 1TB SSD and 256GB SSD. Thanks in advance.

I'm also open to distro recommendations! I don't mind having to use the command line.

I have a problem on Linux mint cinnamon

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 16:28

I wanted to play poppy playtime on x11, but it runs at 1 frame per 5 sec and when I switch to Wayland it works normally,

but the shift key isn't registering (it registers in browser or text editor, but not in any game)

And it's because of Wayland, but if I change to x11, I won't be able to play the game

(I have GTX 1660 super)

Hi-res mode or 3D acceleration not working on Zuma's revenge.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 16:11

I’m trying to play Zuma’s Revenge on Kubuntu 25.10 and can’t get hi-res mode or 3D acceleration to work. I’ve already tried both Proton and Proton-GE. Has anyone managed to get proper hardware acceleration and hi-res working for this game on Linux.

Which distro should i use? Should i?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 15:49

I’m totally new to Linux. I know a few basics, but I’m still a beginner. I’d like to try Linux (preferably KDE Plasma, ideally with its own software store like my Steam Deck has).

My main focus is gaming (especially CS2) and some basic office work like PowerPoint and Word (I know Microsoft Office isn’t officially supported).

My main concern is that I have an NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti 16GB (Zotac, if that matters), and I’ve heard NVIDIA support on Linux can be problematic.

Here are my other specs:

i5-14600KF

ASUS Prime Z690-P

Kingston Fury 5200 MHz RAM

Latest BIOS installed

( 320hz 1080p AW2525HM )

Rn i have win 10 ltsc iot. Btw.

Issues with overwatch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 14:46

Essentially everything needed to know is either in the post or in the comments- but the gist is that overwatch gets insane lag spikes to the point of crashing my entire computer at random times. Does anyone know why or what is going on?

sold my 7900xtx nitro for an 9070xt gigabyte, am I crazy?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 14:43

So i have an AM4 system with a 5700x3d 32gb 3200mhz ram and a 7900xtx nitro on my living room running some version of steamOS around 3 years now - since mid 2025 i ve been using cachyOS.
I was offered 900eu to sell it - i have bought it last summer for 600. so i took the offer and bought a gigabyte 9070xt new for 700. i have a gigabyte 9070 on my other TV in the bedroom so i know that hotspot is 30c above edge in these cards and after 60% fan speed they sound like airplanes - but still the overall deal seemed great. i usually play games at 4k native - games like hogwards legacy, the last of us, days gone, RE, nier, expedition 33 etc. was it a bad move on my part?

I know this question was in this sub before, but...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 12:47

in most of my games, my game runs at 1 fps per 5 sec. I have GTX 1660 super, Linux mint cinnamon

I also had a strange thing that when I played poppy playtime, it worked, but when I changed to Fullscreen the game started having the slowed down 1 fps.

Also I managed to run Bloons td6 at stable 60 fps by typing a command, that I think changes the proton version or smth

Oh, and I switched to Linux 3 or 4 days ago

OpenRGB possibly killing RAM?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Februar 2026 - 12:05

I just seen this post on buildapc and this person was using Linux Mint and OpenRGB. They have stated that OpenRGB has killed their memory. And others have said there’s a very real risk of it happening.

I plan on removing the program and living with my rainbow RAM as I can’t risk losing it. The cost is simply too high.

Use OpenRGB at your own risk!
