Best vr headset for linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. April 2026 - 16:56

Hello so I am going to be buying a vr head set for my computer and I wanted some recommendations. Firstly mmi plan to only use it with my gentoo desktop with a amd 7900 xtx. I also don't play a lot of games that require movement mainly stuff like beat sabber Tetris effect and subnatica.

For Linux from what I can tell the only real option is the big screen beyond 2, I'm kinda hesitant on it due to the limited resolution/refresh rate from the bandwidth bottleneck.

Hardware requirements

Oled screens

Comfrable

2 USB c ports or 3.5 mm out

Outside in tracking

Just ordered Lenovo legion pro 5i

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. April 2026 - 16:09

coming from linux mint on an asus zenbook 14 2020 ux425ia_um425ia and i just ordered this Laptop.

and I plan on installing the distro on a separate old Kingston 500gb ssd which has mint now on the empty ssd slot (im okay with starting from scratch while switching distros).

im looking into distros like cachy os and im worried about driver support with 50 series gpu.

im a casual user - daily use as a good alternative to win11

but im hoping to build my beginning homelab setup so considering all this is cachy os a good choice for me or do I look for alternatives.

Linux Mint/Pop OS - How to fix NVENC Codex error on OBS Studio / How to fix any games not using Nvidia GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. April 2026 - 14:56

-- TEXT VERSION -- Extracted from video
METHOD 1 :
Right click OBS make sure you’re running on the Nvidia GPU

METHOD 2 :
Enter Additional Driver or Driver Manager
Make sure you aren’t using the Nouveau driver. Or using an old Nvidia driver

METHOD 3 :
obsproject.com Download the DEB version from the website. The app store version is usually more outdated.
Enter Terminal
" sudo add-apt-repository ppa:obsproject/obs-studio " Run Add Apt Repo as Super User and add the OBS PPA link.
" sudo apt update " Refresh the package.
" sudo apt install obs-studio " Run APT as Super User then the Install option to install OBS.

METHOD 4 : This one is for distros that don't ask to disable Secure Boot by default.
Restart your PC
Press your PC's keybind that opens BIOS. HP uses ESC or F10
Disable Secure Boot... Nvidia sometimes don't like Secure Boot for some reason. Making apps not use the GPU.

METHOD 5 : I don't recommend this on Mint right now. Nvidia GPUs don't work on flatpaks on Mint for some reason.
Enter the app store
Download the flatpak version of OBS
Enter Flatseal
Find OBS Studio
Remember to enable GPU Acceleration perms

METHOD 6:
Enter OBS Studio
Settings / Output / Recording
Video Encoder - Software (x264)... This makes OBS stop using Nvidia’s encoder.

Gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. April 2026 - 14:49

Hello, I'm new here. The thing is I've been seeing a lot on Linux lately because of school and I've been told good things overall about it.

My question is: How does gaming works on Linux? I've been a Windows user all my life, Windows 11 right now. I've seen some crazy Linux desktops and such, but since I'm a gamer too, I want that to be a prerequisite.

I don't really feel like setting up a dual boot. Linux came to my mind since I'm studying Infrastructure and Cybersecurity, everything is about Linux, while Windows mostly being used and Virtual Machines.

How good is Linux for both and everyday use + gaming compared to Windows, considering I'm completly used to windows at this point.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. April 2026 - 12:48

Today I wanted to play a game (overwatch), but something happened. I don't know what to do, other games make external monitor gain this error too. Problem happens only on external monitor. I tried to change proton version, but problem occurs on other protons too. It happens spontaneously, for some time it disappears, and reoccurs later.
