XDefiant works but freezes during matches

14. November 2024 - 11:28

I got XDefiant to run just fine installing it with Lutris and using GE-Proton9-20 or Proton Experimental. It launches, I can join a match and play for around 5 minutes before the game just freezes. Sometimes during the match, sometimes in the menu after a match.

I tried a lot of different tips from reddit and youtube and even installed it again with heroic but the problem remains. I don't think it's my system because other demanding games and multiplayer titles run just fine.

Anyone with the same issue and any idea how to fix it?

Not trouble running steam link + big picture from wayland

14. November 2024 - 09:15

Recently migrated to Wayland + Hyprland from X11 + I3. Everything has gone relatively smoothly except for one big sticking point: most of the valve software suite runs like complete garbage.

I realize this is a niche case, but I feel like I've been experiencing nothing but trouble with Steam since moving to Wayland, the most egregious of which is the Big Picture support. IME big picture has been completely borked on wayland for months. Overlays never work, the window randomly swaps fullscreen/windowed uncontrollably, games lose focus half of the time, everything is incredibly sluggish.

On top of that, steam link is completely broken, which is a non-starter because half of my use case is streaming my pc out to my living room to play games on the couch with my girlfriend. Games, if they even work, run incredibly choppy, unplayabley so. This whole setup works flawlessly on x11 but completely breaks down in Wayland. I've tried switching to a mainstream compositor like KDE and the results are exactly the same. I've tried running everything in gamescope and the problem only got worse. I tried switching to moonlight/sunshine for streaming, didn't work. The only fix was to move back to x11.

Has anyone else gotten this working? With all the talk that Wayland is finally ready I figured I'd give it a spin. I'd hate to resign myself to a few more years of X11, but it's starting to look like that's what I'll have to do. Everything gaming wise on Wayland just seems half baked and buggy.

Passing GPU to VM for gaming.

14. November 2024 - 09:00

So before I go down the rabbit hole, what do I need to be looking for to pass my gpu to a vm? I would have thought I could just simply add the gpu to the vm and it'd fire up but no, I must be missing something.

See, what'll happen as it stands is when I start the vm with the gpu added, plasmashell, firefox, and anything running under kdeplasma crash. I kinda expected that but still. My VM never actually starts. My attempts to stop the VM just crashes libvirtd and restarting that becomes impossible. If I do a normal reboot, the system halts. I have to power cycle to get back up.

I need some way to safely take the gpu away from plasma and let the VM have it then give it back when done. My system has an igpu for Linux to use during that time. I don't mind passing the kb/mouse to the vm once it's running. I'll use something like Synergy to allow seemless use of both systems.

All this, just to avoid rebooting into windows natively just so I can play Space Engineers. The game refuses to run in proton. Probably .net related. Can't be bothered to fix.

I have this handy log for my efforts: https://pastebin.com/95czqgkz

Specs:

  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 4.7 GHz 12-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler - be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard - ASRock X670E Pro RS ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • Memory - Crucial Pro 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-5600 CL46 Memory
  • Video Card - Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card
  • Case - Fractal Design Define 7 ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Power Supply - SeaSonic FOCUS GX-1000 ATX 3.0 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Almost forgot to mention. I'm running kubuntu 24.10 with the latest kernel. Whatever version that is.

FPS issues on Fedora

14. November 2024 - 08:47

Are you using UMU Launcher?

14. November 2024 - 08:10

I wonder how many of us already use umu instead of standard wine. If so also what launcher are you using? Or maybe you are using it directly from command line?

I found it to work the best with heroic launcher. I had a lot of problems on Lutris.

14. November 2024 - 05:43

Should I care about integrated HDR? Should I just use Special K? Will it look the same?

B550 motherboards software Linux compatibility?

14. November 2024 - 05:28

Hey there! I'm looking for buying a new motherboard, specifically one with b550 chipset and integrated RGB controller, one of the options I found was: 1. MSI MAG B550 tomahawk 2. Asus ROG B550 3. Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 After a brief check of their Linux support none of these have oficial Linux support of their utilities software. However as long as I can control the RGB It should be enough for me 1. Which one of these would you choose? 2. Owners of these motherboards, is it possible to use the RGB on Linux? I use debian as my distro Thank you everyone

Can't get a Mod Manager for Sonic Adventure 2 to work no matter what I do

14. November 2024 - 04:27

So, I found out about a number of mods for SA2 that'll hopefully make the game enjoyable for me, including one called Render Fix. I set it up with the older SA2 Mod Manager, only to find it doesn't work with it. So I think, "Okay, I guess I'll upgrade it to the SA Mod Manager like I did with SADX," but despite it being simple enough to set up with SADX, it just refuses to work with SA2.

I get asked to install a .NET Desktop Runtime, I click yes, nothing happens. I manually download the latest one, it doesn't recognize it. I notice it's an older version it's asking for, so I install THAT version. It doesn't work. I then try to use it with the SADX prefix I had set up, and now THAT doesn't work for whatever reason as it asked for an even OLDER version and didn't recognize that, either. I try downloading the proper .NET ProtonTricks needs for the SA2 prefix, it doesn't have what I'm looking for(because of COURSE it doesn't). I then add it to Steam with Proton Experimental. Asks for .NET Desktop Runtime. I click yes to download it. It's the exact one I downloaded earlier. It still doesn't recognize it even after repairing it. Lastly, I tried to open the one in my SADX folder with the SADX prefix to try and use that since it worked well last time. It didn't. It instead showed a black window that won't let me read the text outside of hovering over the OK button. It seemed it was going to set it up, but it's been about 5 minutes since I tried it and nothing has happened. I also can't use Wine cause that's ALSO a black window with only the OK button showing once highlighted and, yet again, does absolutely NOTHING.

I've tried everything I could think of, and Google's only giving results for the first game. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong or whatever else?

Roblox on Linux

14. November 2024 - 04:25

Does the game work natively or through Wine? Cause I’ve installed it but it keeps giving me this “there is no windows program configured to open this type of file” error. So I’m guessing I need to do some more stuff to get it working. Does anyone know how?

Permanant drop in fps until restarting games

14. November 2024 - 03:42

This is an issue that occurs in all games. The games run smoothly without issues at ~60 fps, but after a certain amount of time the fps drops suddenly to 12-14 fps and it stays at this fps until the game is restarted. The problem must be something fundamental since it affects all games.

My gpu is a mid range AMD with only 4 GB of RAM. However the problem can't really be attributed to the low memory since games run smoothly until the "lag" manifests.

I'm using Wine-GE and use lutris to launch my games. I'm running Arch with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600h and a Radeon RX 6500m GPU with 4 GB of VRAM. I'm also using wayland, if it matters.

Anyone able to get the Bazaar running after today's patch?

14. November 2024 - 02:19

After downloading the patch and hitting play I get a Javascript error, looks like Node is failing to start up. Here's a screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/fILtLkm.png

Putting the games on to an SD card? ( DISCLAIMER: THIS DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH PIRACY!!)

14. November 2024 - 01:01

Also this is Through lutris by the way. I'm running Linux Mint I have no more space on my laptop anymore and I have all the set up files and stuff on an SD card from my old windows set up but is there anyway instead of putting the game on my system hard drive on to an SD card like installing them on to that or is that not possible? Like through wine and lutris
