I have Chrono Trigger on Steam. Installed and my keys simply don't work inside the game.

Only keys working are W,A,S,D which are the directionals. But nothing else works. Can't select anything, can't open any settings. Basically i can't play.

Reinstalled the game to check if could fix something, but nothing happened.

Anyone have idea how can i repair? I checked the Discussion session on steam, but there's no one with linux problems.

Hi all!

Issue: Playing The Witcher 3, installed via steam on Nobara and SteamOS. The game freezes at random times with audio playing in the background. This issue started happening around 2 weeks ago.

There is no particular way of replicating it, as it happens randomly, after 15 minutes into the session or even 90 minutes. No particular trigger as well, happened while dismounting the horse, while exiting the map, walking around slowly, running, etc.

I have mods installed, 3 in total, but those are not the issue, as i deleted everything and reinstalled the game fresh, even deleting before reinstall the steam cloud data and the issue still happens.

Specs - PC :

AMD 9070XT 16GB GPU

AMD 7800x3d CPU

Nobara linux

Game runs with Proton GE latest. - tried with other Proton versions, even native, same type of freeze.

DX12 - Ray tracing on, RT on performance and ultra settings

SteamDeck - Proton Experimental

DX12 - Medium settings

As the issue is on both devices i suspect it may be something with the latest drivers? As the issue was not present prior to 2 weeks ago.

I have isolated the game on steamdeck by deleting all local files and config files, disabling steam cloud, and re installed fresh to make sure there isn t any leftovers from the mod or game, so i can have a clean slate. Also freezes from time to time. Just the same as on the pc.

Did anyone experience something like this, and if yes how did you solve it?

or, does anyone know what might be the issue?

This is so frustrating as it is definitely something that is shared between devices, probably latest drivers?

Hello, I am aware many have had the same issue, but nobody seems to have found a proper solution yet and it's getting a bit frustrating, so I'll share my experience too.

I am using Mint and have not had any networking issues in any other proton games I've played (including the old Helldivers). In HD2 specifically however, like many people, I cannot connect to game servers. Stuck on establishing up-link when joining friends, quick-play won't work either, etc. I do not have a firewall enabled, I do have IPv6 disabled (shouldn't matter honestly). I also tried using Proton Experimental like many have suggested, all the versions I've tried seem to run exactly the same, spare for some irrelevant fullscreen mode jank.

It seems like this is a recurring issue for many linux users, including me. If you're wondering, I did play the game a bit on Win11 before switching to Mint, and it worked fine there. I could obviously just dual-boot back onto Win11 but I really really despise that system, so I would greatly appreciate it if someone could somehow find a universal solution to the problem.

just a question. Has anyone tried to run a Nostale p server under linux with lutris. I never really tried lutris for now. Using Linux now just for a year. And i thought maybe getting some old childhood feelings back playing nostale. But with a child i dont have much time to grind. So a pserver would be nice. Anyone can share experience?

I've tried Mint, Fedora, and others. Everything either breaks, looks wrong, or causes sensory issues.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What desktop environment/distro actually works for autistic sensory needs while gaming?

Hi, I've recently installed Linux Mint on my computer recently. Everything works really well, but whenever I try to play online games, I get massive ping spikes. For reference, I've played King of Fighters 98UMFE and Guilty Gear Strive. The connection appears fine to begin with, but then jumps to like 1000+ for a few moments.

To add some more clarity:

I used to play these games when I had Windows. I used to get 250ms~ regularly with my partner. After switching to Linux Mint, I noticed that the connection would be stable for a while but then immediately spike to 1300ms suddenly for a few minutes. Then it'd return to normal and repeat.

I'm using the latest version of Linux Mint(22.3) with every single update installed. My kernel is 6.17.0-14-generic, so that's not an issue. My internet works absolutely fine outside of gaming. I'm not sure what to do. Nothing I've seen matches my problem. I've even turned power management off to my WiFi dongle(Cudy WU650 AC650). I'm at a loss for what to do. I run the games through steam using proton experimental.

i have tried fixing this issue in the past but havent figured it out.

it happens when playing any game, from ARC raiders and vermintide to something like schedule one. it doesnt happen all the time and not as often on youtube as on prime video.

im running Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS.

im pretty green when it comes to the inner workings of linux but following a tutorial ive solved most other stuff ive needed to do. but this, ive never been able to figure out.

So I have a 5080 a 9850 X 3-D. I’m almost done with my PC and I want to switch over to Linux. The thing is I wanted to make it as simple as possible if it would be possible to have the Windows 11 interface but I wouldn’t mind learning a new one, but I would prefer the Windows 11 one.

I am going to play games mostly from steam. I’m gonna stream and record videos. I use stream labs and OBS studio. I also use DroidCam because I use my phone as a WebCam.

Also, I’m obviously gonna need something to edit my videos obviously I wanna be able to download chrome easily. So overall nothing too crazy for my needs.

I was thinking about mint or zorin. But I’m open to suggestions

I have a problem with fsr4 on my RX 7800xt (enabled with PROTON_FSR4_RDNA3_UPGRADE=1). It works fine in Arc Raiders but in Ark survival ascended it crashes when opening the inventory. In Monster Hunter Wilds it also crashes when opening some menus. I already tried installing the the git version of mesa but that didnt fix it. Is this a known problem and/or is there a fix?

I am very specifically trying to install Battle for Middle-earth 2: Rise of the witch king using lutris since it supposedly has several working scripts. the main issue being I need to install them onto the same prefix as the one with battle for middle earth 2.

All of the lutris scripts seem to break for me, and I'm at my wits end. One seems to maybe sort of work, but doesn't because it's not on the right prefix I think.

I am completely new to using lutris and only got it as it seems to be the only way i could potentially play these games easily from my childhood, if anyone can give me some advise on how to install this game specifically I would love it.

Hello, I already made a similar post but about World of Tanks with the same issue, but after checking mangohud on Snowrunner and Wreckfest, it's the same. I don't know how to properly explain this, but some games are not using all of my GPU to reach my monitors refresh rate. Like in the screenshot 75% GPU usage on 122 FPS, why not 100% GPU usage with 144 FPS?

im using bazzite gnome which i dont know if that affects anything. i downloaded the flathub version of HMM but for some reason it only reads games on the deck itself and not in my sd card. i have a 256gb so my steamdeck doesnt have a lot of space for my bigger games like frontiers, i was wondering if there was a way i could set a path to a different drive?

I recently installed a Radeon 9060 xt and since Fedora 43 updates to latest mess drivers my framerates randomly drop in half. Sometimes minimising and returning clears it.

This is retail wow I see this in. Not changed any settings.

I'm getting 45 FPS in dungeons where I normally get 70 plus.

Btop indicates card is only 30% in use. Doesn't vary much.

Any ideas?

For the past day I've been following many tutorials on how to open the game, I've Installed the most recent driver updates, I installed some version of proton, no one worked, and tried Protontricks, except it said that I needed to open the game at least once but the game doesn't even launch.

I don't know if this implies to all the other games that don't have a Linux version, because I'm new to Linux, but still, if you need to ask me anything, I'll reach out as soon as I can.

I’m playing Arc Raiders and aiming feels noticeably less smooth on my Linux install compared to Windows.

Setup:

• Fedora 43
• KDE Plasma (Wayland)
• NVIDIA GPU
• Official Xbox Wireless Adapter + Xbox controller
• Same in-game controller settings as on Windows

I can't tell if there is any difference in FPS, but stick aiming feels different/less smooth.

Could I have missed some Steam, in-game or Linux settings?

Has anyone tried Windows 10 + DX11 games? I'm willing to use that instead of wine since it's 64-bit lib is still immature.

So, I'm getting into Fallout 3 at request from my older brother. I downloaded the game on Steam and used the Fallout Anniversary Patcher to patch the EXE.

What's that done is that as soon as the Please Stand By slide loads, the game stops being full screen and kicks me back into my desktop environment (I use Linux Mint if it helps), but the game is still technically playing. I can't see the game and my mouse is locked. I have to use Alt+Tab to go back into the game (which brings the audio back but not the video), and Alt+F4 out of the game.

So... What do I even do? I tried windowed mode, but that runs very poorly on my hardware. It's either fullscreen or nothing.
