Help with troubleshooting?
when i use my monitors as an output device it works well, nothing to note there. When i want to use my headphones(plugged into the audio jack of my motherboard) however i suddenly have a problem. I originally thought there was no sound at all, but i realised that if i cranked up the volume to max i could hear crackling/staticy audio of whatever song i was playing. I have absolutely no idea how to fix this. If it's worth something the audio card on my motherboard is a Realtek ALC892.
Low fps in OW2, feels even lower than it is.When running the game in windows i used to have 130-140 fps, now it's more like 60-90fps but it feels even lower than that. I have no idea if this is because of the proton version i'm using (Proton 9.0-4) or what. Im also not sure why it feels even slower than 60-90fps.
I'm using linux Mint, I haven't tested a lot of games yet mostly because the audio issue is driving me insane. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to play old CD games on Linux
Hello guys, I have some old games on CD and I would like to play them on my laptop. I have an external CD player, but I have no issues with him. No missing drivers or anything, it recognises the CDs and other devices. But I am unable to play the games. They are marked as PC CD/ROM. I see all the games in the file explorer and stuff, I am able to mount the DVDs, that's why I say that the DVD player works. But I cannot launch the games. I tried launching the .exe files using bottles, so wine. But nothing happens. In the Lego star wars game, a window appears for like half a second and just disappears. For the cars game nothing happens at all, and for the witcher I didn't really look into it yet, but I didn't find the executable file. But I am sure that if we manage to make the first 2 games work this one will function too. And the Xbox game, as it is the very old xbox is there a way I could emulate it in order to play on my PC? Here you can also see a picture of the games. I use fedora workstation 41.

Do you think the rumored Xbox handheld could be bad for Linux (Proton) gaming?
There's a rumor that Microsoft is improving Windows for PC handhelds and plans to release an Xbox-branded device for later 2025 to compete in this growing market.
Do you think this could be bad for Linux gaming, Steam Deck and especially Proton, since Windows supports anti-cheat games while Linux doesn't? Or do you have a more optimistic view on this?

Small Update To My Modding Games Helper Script
Added the ability to automatically download, mo2 latest file, extract it, and automatically add it as a non steam game. Not as big as the previous update but thought it would be a nice QoL as always more info can be found here: https://github.com/SulfurNitride/Linux-MO2-Helper

Cashy Os fps Tanks during benchmark.
I heard Cashy OS was good for gameing so Installed it on separate drive on my computer. I wanted to compare gameing preformance between my current Distro Kubuntu 24.10 and Cashy. I Installed all the meta packages per the guide provided and installed the Monster Hunter wilds benchmark and began testing. Running the bench mark at any resolution result in a tank in frame rate starting in the 2nd part of the test. The benchmark runs just fine in Kubuntu. Before Running the test it does give me a low vram warning but my card has 16gb of vram so what could be takeing up the space? Any ideas what i could do to fix this?

Nvidia Finally has a bug tracked for the DX12->VKD3D-Proton Performance drop.
A possible realistic solution to run multiplayer games with anti-cheat on Linux
Linux gaming has reached a state that the only thing limiting mass adoption is the anti-cheats preventing playing the most popular multiplayer games in the world.
We all agree that kernel-level anticheats that are used by games like Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, etc are bad. It's like malware, it's invasive, it provides a possible opening for bad actors to exploit, etc etc.
However, it is true for some of these games that without an anti-cheat, these games would be unplayable. Not because of "Linux users cheating" (a ridiculous statement), but because of the availability of hardware specifically designed to cheat (research some of this stuff, it's crazy what's available and what lengths people will go to to cheat on an online video game).
The solution can come from Valve - because of their size and influence, they are in a perfect position to do this.
Anti-cheat relies on secure boot, and a locked down kernel that cannot be tampered with. Valve could create such a linux kernel. This kernel could be used as the target for these multiplayer game developers to support. Perhaps an anti-cheat kernel module could be used that only works with this tamper-proof kernel. The developers get assurances that the system is not modified, that their anti-cheat is fully functional. And the user can choose to boot into this kernel to play their games, and boot into a generic kernel when they don't want to play the games. This is, probably, technically possible to do.
If you refuse to play these games because you philosophically disagree with kernel-level anti-cheat - great!
If you say that the developers can "just check a box and get Battleye working" - sorry not a solution. Battleye without kernel access doesn't work effectively. Full stop.
If you think it's a bad idea to develop such a thing because it goes against FOSS...great! Don't use it. But what's your solution then? "Screw you all, we don't need these games" is not a solution.
I'm interested in discussing the technical feasibility of such a solution. Because face it - without anti cheat we will never get these games, and without these games, Linux and the Steam Deck will never be a fully viable platform to compete with Microsoft.

Weird flickering in games
Today all games started randomly flickering, I think it's shaders issue, since in minecraft it stops when I'm disabling shaders. Here are examples of what's happening: https://imgur.com/a/2ccicI0
How can I fix this?
My system:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700
GPU 1: AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT
OS: Arch Linux
WM: Mutter (Wayland)

Controller doesn't show in /dev/input/js*
Hello. I have a 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C controller (trying to make it work as wired not wireless) and while it's recognized by the system as a mouse+keyboard combo it's not recognized as a controller. I've tried some solutions (use xboxdrv/jstest-gtk but rightfully the controller doesn't appear so I can't do much, create config files...) but they didn't work. I use Debian 12 Stable (Kernel 6.1) with KDE and Xorg.
Here's the dmesg output when I plug the controller:

Bazzite Linux announced two new editions designed for game developers
huge question about cachyos kernel...
currently, im using fedora 41 with kde plasma... just with the fedora 6.13 kernel right now. but, i want the best performance and best usage of my pc possible using linux, is it really beneficial or an upgrade of a huge margin to use cachyos or at least get the cachyos kernel into your distro? if it is, then how much are we talking? does it boost fps, does it make wayland smoother, does it respond faster?

i'm lost
hi everyone,
recently i tried to use wine to no avail since my GPU is too old, so i tried to go back to steam, and play some games i know i could run.
trying rain world the same error that came out with some of those applications i tried to use with wine appeared:
Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed
i know jack shit about it, i already lost 2 days trying to fix it to use wine to no avail, now it ruins the plain steam experience? i'm furious but powerless hence my presence here.
using arch, specs:
Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
Intel i5-3320M (4) @ 3.300GHz
4gb of ram
if anyone know anything, it would be much appreciated of you to share it with me.
thanks in advance

PS5 DualSense on Fedora 41
I've recently tried to set up Steam on a pretty fresh install of Fedora 41. It runs games fine if I'm using a keyboard and mouse, but I can't get my PS5 Dualsense controller to work inside games (so far have pretty much just tried Dead Cells and Windblown). It definitely seems to register the controller, it works fine in big picture mode and at any time I can use the touchpad as a mouse (including in game), but the buttons and sticks become non-responsive once I'm in game. I've been trying to dig through old reddit posts, steam forum discussions, etc. and haven't found anything that fixed it yet:
- One suggested that the controller was being read as both a desktop input device and as a controller, and games couldn't parse which one it was actually supposed to be. Seems legitimate and matches my symptoms, but even after disabling all steam inputs controller is still non-responsive in game.
- One suggested that udev rules aren't in place, but I both confirmed that steam-devices is installed and that /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-steam-input.rules and /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-steam-vr.rules exist.
- I've installed steam directly from DNF, not via flatpak.
Has anyone dealt with these issues and have an idea of what I'm missing?
