Path of Exile 2 occasional stutter (165FPS).
Is anyone else having occasional stutters when playing Path of Exile 2? I'm running at around 165FPS at all times, but there's still some stuttering that goes on occasionally. There are no drop frames. No issues like this on Windows 11. I'm running using Vulkan and using Proton Experimental on Steam.

Decent laptop for linux gaming?
Heyaaa, looking to get a laptop to replace my aging Windows tower for gaming (mostly because I want to reclaim that desk space back). My plan is to use Mint and to mostly play titles that are best modded (bethesda, minecraft, etc) and that are not easily acquired on a ps5. I have an Apple Studio Display that I use for work and I’d love to be able to plug it into that as well, tho I’m not fussed about matching it all the way up to 5k lol. My aging tower outputs 2k and that’d be more than enough.
Im in the United States, sub $800 would be a bonus, but I’m really trying to not exceed $1000 after taxes (CA…. its brutal). Not looking for the BEST, just what works, also totally fine with refurbished machines. Advice would be appreciated!
Also apologies if this isnt the right subreddit to post to Ill take my post elsewhere haha. Just let me know.

Could not load PidGen.dll when installing halo combat evolved
Trying to play Halo CE on linux using wine. whenever i boot up the setup.exe, im able to do the install procedure and put in the product key, but then it shows me this error. I looked around and found out that i should install mfc42.dll on my system32, but as anyone should know that wouldn't work for me 0_0. any other way i can fix this?

Arc raiders randomly freezing
Howdy hey, i swapped to Fedora 43 workstation recently and have been loving it on my desktop. But when playing arc raiders it will freeze random, can be just running or in the middle of a fight. Tabbing out then back in usually fixes it but still quite annoying to do so every match.
GPU: rtx 5090
CPU: 9800x3d (+200mhz pbo)
Ram: 2x32gb 6400mt/s cl32

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Capture card that can capture HDR
So I am in the process of switching to linux and one of my last hurdles from windows is HDR capture.
I have a PS5 and switch 2 connected to my PC. I have an HDR display so I don't need HDR to SDR tone mapping.
So I want to have HDR to my local monitor via the capture. I don't care about the pass through.
Does anyone have a card that works?
I have the elgato 4k x, but when looking online it supports HDR capture for windows, not for mac and linux isn't even mentioned, but it doesn't seem to work. (I am open to things here if anyone knows how to make it output HDR on linux).
So yeah very washed out. I set HDMI output to full. It looks good if I enable the tone mapping, but I don't wanna map it to SDR.
So I usually use the OBS preview screen for gameplay. I don't really want to record or stream in HDR.
Edit: 1440p minimum resolution would be nice. So a 1080p HDR capture isn't really useful to me.

Why is my ThinkPad X280 performing 50% worse on Linux than Windows 11? (RDR1 & Hollow Knight, PPT 5)
Hi everyone, I’m struggling to understand why Linux gaming performance is so much lower on my hardware. I’m using a ThinkPad X280 (Intel UHD 620).
I've tried CachyOS, Nobara, and Pop!_OS, but the results are disappointing compared to Windows:
- RDR1 : Windows gets 40-50 FPS, but Linux only gets 20-23 FPS.
- Hollow Knight: On Windows, 1080p gets 60-80 FPS, and 720p hits 112-130 FPS. On Linux, 720p performance is barely equal to Windows 1080p.
- Poppy Playtime (Ch.5): On Windows, I get a solid 60 FPS (Native,with LS1 Lossless scaling ). On Linux? It’s a slide-show at 20 FPS.
Is it an Intel driver issue? Mesa versions? Or is Linux just not optimized for older integrated graphics despite the 'lightweight' reputation? I really want to switch, but the performance hit is too big to ignore. Any tips?
NOTE: Lossless Scaling was only used for Poppy Playtime; the other games were tested natively on both OSs.

Cyberpunk 2077 keeps freezing.
If i uninstall and reinstall I can play ok for an hour or two. But after that it freezes just a few minutes after starting the game or sometimes even right on startup. It worked fine on windows before I switched to Linux mint. I have an Nvidia 4060 TI. I switched my vm.max_map_count to be higher. I tried different versions of Proton. I tried older versions of cyberpunk. Im running out of ideas. Every other game runs fine but Cyberpunk was half the reason I got this gaming computer.
There was a point it seemed to run ok for a bit when i ran it through the steam launcher instead of heroic. But then it started freezing again randomly. It’s driving me crazy. I have not seen that many people with a steam deck complaining so it seems like it can run on Linux ok (that being said I’m using mint not steam os). I know my computers hardware is powerful enough cause again it ran fine on windows. I don’t think it’s a driver issue cause every other game works fine. But maybe.

Fixing the Steam Deck’s Mic Echo: A Proposal for Native SteamOS Integration
The Steam Deck has a known hardware limitation: because the microphones sit so close to the speakers, multiplayer gaming often creates a "loopback" echo. Your friends hear your game audio and their own voices distorted through your mic.
Currently, the only way to fix this is using third-party plugins (like my project, Lyftronics ANC). While the plugin works, it’s a "user-space hack" that struggles with the SteamOS immutable filesystem and library conflicts.
The Solution: Native PipeWire Integration I am proposing that Valve integrates an RNNoise-based filter chain directly into the SteamOS core. This would transform a "workaround" into a hardened, first-party feature.
Why Native Integration Wins: Rock-Solid Stability: No more "race conditions" or scripts waiting for the audio service to start. It would initialize natively with the system. Security: Eliminates the need for permission workarounds or elevated access within the user session.
UI Performance: A native toggle in the Quick Access Menu would be significantly more responsive than a socket-dependent plugin. Clean Environment: Resolves the library path conflicts that often break third-party audio tools during SteamOS updates.
The Goal: I have already submitted a full Technical Brief to Valve’s engineering team detailing how to implement this using libpipewire-module-filter-chain. This isn't just a "nice-to-have"—it's a fix for a physical hardware constraint that would make the Deck a much better device for docked or handheld voice chat. I’m sharing this here to see if other devs or power users have encountered the same roadblocks with the current audio stack. Let’s get some visibility on this for the next SteamOS update! -Lyftronic

Thinking on switching to linux for gaming
I have this idea but i see a lot of tests in youtube that show how windows 11 is better for gaming that some linux distros like bazzite, pop os, cachyos, etc, is this true? Or maybe there is something that im not seeing? I have a laptop with 32gb ddr5 ram, dual gpu, rtx4060, radeon680m, and a Ryzen 7 7735hs cpu, if i switch to linux, I will gain or loose performance in gaming? (I know that i can't play games with anticheats in linux, but I mainly play singleplayer games)
English is not my main language, sorry for any grammar errors

Valve/RADV Developers Look At More Per-Game Tuning/Optimizations For Mesa Drivers

Crimson Desert minimum specs have been released
Curious if it'll be steamOS verified at launch or not. And what kind of state it will be in.
I'm amped for this game, but I know it's wise to wait a little on new releases sometimes.
But these specs are really reasonable.
