Playing Forza Horzion 5 Microsoft Store edition on Linux

26. Mai 2025 - 17:55

Yes, you read the title right, I am a dumbass, bought Forza Horzion 5 on the MS store, found out it was on Steam later, but it was too late to return. So, back to the main question, is there a way to run the MS Store edition on Linux under Wine or Proton? I have a Windows machine from which I can download the actual game, that is not a problem for me, actually launching the game is.

Steam for multiple users

26. Mai 2025 - 17:20

I have set up a second user account on fedora which is not an root account. And I have a steam library on a second ssd which I want to share between me and the second user. So I chmod the partition and now the second user can access the ssd and see all the games from the shared ssd on steam but he can`t play them.If I or he click start the play button gets for 2 seconds blue and than returns to green.

But if I install a game from the second user the second user can play it but than my root user account can`r play it anymore. It looks like the games install themselfs only for a certain user.

I did install steam with the root account from the gnome software center not as flatpak but as rpm fusion version

Strange lag with “Supermarket Together” on Linux Mint – GPU downclocks only near certain objects?

26. Mai 2025 - 17:18

Hi everyone,
I’m new to Linux and after countless failed attempts with other distros, I finally settled on Linux Mint Cinnamon – and it’s running great! Gaming works well overall, and even Supermarket Together runs smoothly… except for one very strange issue.

I can launch the game through Steam and play just fine — performance is solid. But when I go into the "Cool People Room" and look at the changing board, the game suddenly starts lagging heavily. If I look away, everything is smooth again. The same thing happens with the TV: once I turn it on, the game starts stuttering, and turning it off immediately fixes it.

Now here’s the weird part:
When the lag starts, I noticed that my GPU seems to downclock. I can hear my GPU fans clearly while playing normally, but the moment I look at the board or turn on the TV, the fans go quiet — almost like I had closed the game. Performance drops hard until I look away or turn the TV off.

My specs:

  • Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon
  • Cinnamon Version: 6.4.8
  • Linux Core: 6.8.0-60-generic
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (8 GB)
  • CPU: 11th Gen Intel© Core™ i5-11400 @ 2.60GHz × 6
  • RAM: 16 GB

What I’ve tried so far:

  • All available Proton versions (including Proton GE )
  • Gamemode enabled
  • Nvidia proprietary drivers, confirmed working via nvidia-smi
  • System is fully up-to-date, no thermal throttling or abnormal usage

I’m stuck. Any idea why the GPU might be downclocking when looking at certain objects in the game? Or how I can prevent it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Chromebook

26. Mai 2025 - 16:57

I got this base level Chromebook and I want to do some really intense gaming and streaming. Is that at all even possible? Are there any workarounds for expanding RAM?

weird behaviour/crashes

26. Mai 2025 - 16:57

about four months ago, I switched the OS of my gaming PC from win11 to bazzite. It worked incredible for like 3 months, until some weird problems started occuring. My PC should have more than enough power to run everything at a very playable framerate. Also, it worked really well for 3 months, making it even more weird.

R5 5600G RX 6750 XT 64GB DDR4 3TB NVME storage 850W BeQuiet PSU

I mostly play marvel rivals at the time, It's the only game where i notice the issues. I ran it with GE-Proton 9-27 for the whole time, and it worked like a charm until it didn't. Note, I didn't tinker with anything before the problems started occuring, it happened out of the blue.

Mid game, one of two things start to happen.

1) from one second to the next, the FPS drops from the normal playable 120-150 down to like 10. Always after like 30 to 50 minutes of gameplay. Game works fine for half an hour and snap, unplayably low framerate. Weirdly though, only when I interact with the game, as soon as I let go of everything and just stand there, the game around me works fine, but if I move my mouse or WASD, the game instantly starts lagging again. Also, the PSU starts making noises in sync with the lags. The only way to get rid of them is to restart the game or computer. They just come, but dont go away until restarting the game.

2) The whole computer just freezes up, no way of interacting with it, needs to be force restarted. Funny enough, the sound keeps playing, but everything else completely freezes up.

Now I have win11 installed again on a small partition of my ssd, for some testing. Everything works there, no crashes, no freezes. But I still have a feeling, it doesnt perform as well as I remembered it to on windows. Sometimes the framerate dips low, and the pc just generally feels slow sometimes on win11. Way slower than what my specs should perform like.

I tried updating EVERYTHING on bazzite, the whole deal is up to date, tried different proton versions, tried monitoring my PC during a «meltdown» but nothing was out of the ordinary.

I'd appreciate any help, feel free to ask anything regarding the problem.

Any way to overclock RAM in Linux?

26. Mai 2025 - 16:20

My PC has RAM that can reach 3800 MT/s, but it's base frequency is 3200 MT/s.

Unfortunately, the BIOS/UEFI provided by the manufacturer (HP) does not have the ability to change memory frequency. The manufacturer's intended way to set RAM to 3800 MT/s is by using an app on Windows (OMEN Gaming Hub iirc).

So, is there any way to overclock RAM on Linux?

Steam Disk Write Error after restart?

26. Mai 2025 - 16:04

Hey all!

I just switched to Fedora and after setting everything up I found a strange, bug?

When I restart my PC Steam suddenly has disk write errors that I am only able to resolve when I fully nuke the Steam Library. I didn't install the flatpak, but the "normal" version, so I am not sure what is causing this.

The disks automatically mount on start and I gave my user full rights with uid=1000 and gid=1000.

Not sure what is going on. Had someone the same problem?

Disk format: FAT

Dualshock 3 hall effect analogs and calibration Linux.

26. Mai 2025 - 14:52

Hey everyone, I've got 2 old DS3/PS3 original controller from back the day and I am considering to do some maintenance on them and give longer life replacing their Analogs for one of these with Hall effect potentiometers from Aliexpress.

My main question is if you guys know about any software to calibrate them if necessary. I know about the DS4 one, but that won't work for them.

From my current research the only viable option seems to be linmctool, but it seems to be for gyro/motion sense, not analogs.

Also, if you've done before, share experience, maybe it is not required at all, who knows?

Gamescope and Oblivion Remastered

26. Mai 2025 - 14:06

Hi everybody,

I use arch (btw.) and configured Gamescope as an option to KDE when I log in with SDDM.

It works perfectly fine and I have a steamDeck like experienced here.

Now, in oblivion remastered I realized I can't turn all the way around using my mouse. As if it hit a border and could not move further.

My guess is that it reaches the furthest left or furthest right point in its resolution (3440x1440) and can't move further.

Any idea whats happeneing and how to fix it?

All the best from Germany and happy gaming :-)

ASUS USB-BT540

26. Mai 2025 - 13:56

Has anyone gotten this to work on Linux? I can connect it fine and I can scan for devices but I can't pair anything to it.

I've tried googling for quite a bit before I wrote this.

Edit: I even found these drivers https://github.com/winterheart/broadcom-bt-firmware/releases Installed them and same problem persists. Can't pair controllers, in this case a DualShock 4 controller.

Proton launch options user input prompt?

26. Mai 2025 - 13:32

I am currently looking to convert my old Windows 10 PC to Ubuntu 24.04. There's one programme that I plan on running via Proton, as it seems to be the most stable option. However, in Windows I often run the programme using a small .cmd script that prompts me for a value to access different profiles in the programme via command line arguments. I found that adding command line arguments through the Launch Options in Proton works as intended, but I haven't figured out a way to give me a prompt for an argument value. Is this possible?

I tried running the programme through the terminal as well, but it throws a `SuspendThread loop failed` error, so presumably an issue with running multi-threaded programmes that way...

Game randomly freezes after launch

26. Mai 2025 - 13:32

Hello everyone, looking for some help as I do not know how I can / should troubleshoot.

My steam games are randomly freezing after launch - sometimes during launch, or sometimes during the gameplay. Not sure I can troubleshoot and resolve my issues. Any help would be appreciated. E.g.: Previously I can run dota 2 with no issue; now the game just freezes like when the intro video is playing halfway through after launch.

My laptop specs:

  • OS: Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS
  • Model : Dell Inc. Dell G15 5525
  • Memory: 16.0 GiB
  • Processor: AMD® Ryzen 7 6800h with radeon graphics × 16
  • Graphic card: NVIDIA Corporation GA107BM [GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile]
  • OS type: 64-bit

I've tried the disabling Steam Overlay while in-game (works for a while, until the random freezes happen again)

Thank you very much in advance!

Final Fantasy 16 stutter? (demo)

26. Mai 2025 - 13:14

Hello, I am interested in getting Final Fantasy 16, I tested the demo on endeavor OS (6750xt, 5700x cpu, 32 GB ram), but I am getting some stuttering issues. It's not terrible but I noticed some really big stutters during the intro fight where you play as the phoenix, and some small stutters during cut scenes.

Is the full version any better or is there any fix to this? Would appreciate some insight, thank you.
