Problem with Steam Input in Proton Games

21. September 2025 - 12:25

For the past two days (and without having updated anything), my PS4 controller has not been working in Proton games, while in native games such as Silksong it works if I disable Steam Input.

I have tried changing the Proton version and deleting configuration files that might be corrupted. The controller works fine in games outside of Steam.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? Thank you very much!

Latest wine update - white screen instead of game

21. September 2025 - 12:11

Hi fellow linux gamers,

Since Wine's last update yesterday, I can no longer play The Division 2. Any thoughts?

The game starts, sound is OK. Even the UBI overlay works fine but all I do do is stare at that white screen.

Cheers,

Mass Effect Legendary Edition

21. September 2025 - 12:11

So I've found a lot of threads on here basically saying that getting the Steam version of this running in Linux is pretty much impossible and you're better off pirating it.

I managed to actually get the launcher to run. I can get to the menu to select which game I want. However, when I try to play ME1 it throws an error saying something is wrong with my game and please reinstall. ME2 seems to work. I did not try ME3. I have WINEDLLOVERRIDES=openal32=b %command% launch options configured.

Does anyone know a way around this or am I really better off running a pirated version of it?

EDIT: ME3 does work.

Large games

21. September 2025 - 08:11

Hi, I like Steam, but are there any websites or platforms where I can find good games that offer refunds if I don’t like them and that aren’t too heavy to download? Yesterday I bought Watch Dogs Legion on Steam… 110 GB, that’s crazy! I haven’t played in years, and I find it unbelievable to download such a huge file only to run it on the lowest settings, otherwise my PC can’t handle it.

Do you have any alternatives?

Ubuntu LTS or smth newer?

21. September 2025 - 07:15

Hello everyone, I recently bought a new PC primarily for office work, web browsing, and general use, but I also enjoy some light gaming. My new SFF PC has a Ryzen 7 870OG and 32GB of RAM. I'm using it with a 4K 27-inch monitor for desktop use and plan to switch to 1080p for gaming. I'm not new to Linux, as I've used it on my laptops before. I'm not a serious gamer, but I'd like to try some games like Hollow Knight. My question is: Would a distro like Ubuntu 24.04 be sufficient, or should I use something more up-to-date? I can't imagine how much of a performance benefit I would gain between 24.04 and a rolling release or a newer Fedora. I know Ubuntu uses the HWE kernel, which should be relatively up to date, and they also seem to care about Mesa.
What would you do? Would you stick with the LTS version or use something newer and accept the more frequent updates?

Does anyone have the same experience with Linux gaming on full AMD (positive note)?

21. September 2025 - 06:22

So I've been experimenting with dual booting Windows 11 and various Linux distros for almost a year. I tested the following games in both and even had some comparison recordings but lost them due to faulty RAM sticks:

THE FINALS Windows: average 120 fps on High settings at 1440p, bad lows Bazzite: Average of 170+ fps on the same settings at 1440p, better lows

I do not remember the exact frames for Rivals but Linux consistently had an average of at least 40+ FPS with better lows.

I use a full AMD system - xfx RX 6700XT 12 GB, 32GB G Skill Trident Neo with the best timings for my board using xmp (replaced these sticks with newer sticks from a different brand), 5700X, no OC.

This post is NOT to say that Linux is perfect because I definitely see a performance hit in a game like Rocket League and latency increase even with tuned kernels. It's just so far to say that even shadps4 emulation has no hiccups on Linux where as Windows has constant stuttering. I am very impressed with the whole gaming capabilities of the OS and highly recommend that full AMD users give it a try.

Has 9070xt reached Parody with W11 yet?

21. September 2025 - 06:21

I was on Linux (Cachy OS) for around a year with a 7900xt and loved it. Basically just beat W11 performance in anything I played. I got a 9070xt now and noticed slight regression in Linux with raster (obviously with RT). I also noticed in games like Cyberpunk that have native FSR4 support i still needed to type a command to get it? Kind of turned me away. Im all for Linux but i really need a more streamlined experience and HDR to just work. Don't mind a command for HDR but Stalker 2 still has issues with blueing highlights. GameScape or Wayland. Is there any word of any of this getting fixed any time soon? i just cant play with a new cardf ands lose performance/features.

How to use Mods in Linux?

Hello Everyone, Has anyone managed to get Zero Hour Mods working in Linux ? I am using Linux Mint and I am running Command and Conquer Generals Zero hour Hour flawlessly via Steam. I didn't have to make any changes. You just need to download it via Steam and play. But how about Mods or Genlauncher? No matter what I tried, still no luck
