I’m running WoW from battle.net under Proton-GE from Steam (Steam -> battle.net -> proton-ge WoW) - works perfectly!

.. until I went into the in-game store (never done before) and went to look at WoW token.. just opens up a black screen woth an <X> to close. Presumably its trying an in-game browser to do purchase things?

Anyone have an idea how to get that to work?

I am new to linux and it's inner workingd. I have installed bazzite, nobara, and pop os and I tried them and I'm honestly confused about all three Operating systems. I currently have bazzite installed and I it just not plug and play experience with my games on my ssd. The Proton layers just do not working most of the time. I can't find any videos about how to fix the ssd for steam library store.

My kid wants to move from a beat up old Windows laptop to a home-built Linux system for playing games like Victoria 3. I've read the recommended system requirements for that game (here) and done a little additional research into what people think is really needed (including a recommendation to go with 32GB RAM here).

I used to build my own machines before migrating to laptops. That was a long time ago and I am not sure I'm making good choices. I want to support my kid's exploration of linux gaming but don't want to spend forever fighting driver issues because I screwed up selecting. Can you all help a dad out and let me know if this build presents any concerns for gaming set up on linux? Any advice on distros to make this a good experience?

I'm trying to get the paddles and bumpers working in steam input with absolutely no luck. In Bluetooth mode they will show in the edit screen sometimes but the extended button toggle never works and the only two times I've been able to map them from the edit screen they don't work.

I installed windows on a separate drive and the controller is now fully updated. That also didn't work.

For the life of me I can't get these four buttons working at all. This is Cachyos desktop with arch deckify.

i used to do 60 -75 fps on sober but now i cant do more than 20 fps on the same game some time 6fps

Given the rapid rise of Linux gaming and overall adoption in 2025, will there be a day when big multiplayer titles like COD, Battlefield, Fortnite or Valorant will be able to run natively on Linux systems with full anti-cheat support?

I recently picked up a cheap ARGB hub with a remote control because OpenRGB won't work with my MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk mobo and I just want one static color for all fans and not breathing rainbow puke. OpenRGB only sees the RAM. As I'm looking at all of The hub's connectors, I'm wondering what I need and what I can skip, as the manufacturer appears to assume I'm using it for all of my fans' needs but I just want it to control the ARGB with the remote.

Questions:

1. Would I be okay if I kept my PWM connectors on the mobo and only plugged in the 3-pin ARGB connectors to the hub? I know it would need to be powered by SATA.

2. Do I need to connect the PC IN connector to the mobo's ARGB header? Not for syncing, but perhaps for turning them off when I turn off the PC?

3. It says the red FAN1 port must be populated, but I don't need it. Any idea if that would impact the ARGB function of the hub?

Hello. I have Sonic Adventure 2 on Steam and I'm trying to play it on my Linux system. The game opens, but then, out of nowhere, it glitches, minimizing and leaving the game stuck on a black screen. Then I have to close and open it again.

This never happened when I played on Windows. I already tried using an alternative version of Proton in the compatibility settings, but it didn't help. It's ruining my experience.

I would appreciate some help to solve this problem, if possible.

I am a Linux newbie and tried to install the latest Bazzite OS on my machine (specs see below). After installation it will not boot properly and just show a blinking white bar in the top left. When I check kdeinit5 it will tell me that $DISPLAY is not set.

Does anyone now, how to fix that or narrow down the problem?

Hey i hope i found here some help, i alrady seached a long time but wanst able to make it. I wanna controll my mainboard/fans via openrgb (or another software if there is one) On winows openrgb is working fine and ic can see and controll anything (ram, mouse and mainboard) on linux (cashyos) pen rgb only somtimes find my mainboard, i havent figure out when it gets found and when not, root perm dosnt made a diferenz. I was able to use the offical software on windows to wirte a color with a basic effect diractly to the hardware so its also looking nice when using linux (what i do most of the time) so i dont need advanced controll but i realy want an option to disable the rgb, i want this option for energy saving when im not at home (and play remote) and when going to sleep....

Could somone teach me step by step how i can do this?

I used steamOS before (manily desktop) so i have basic linux knwolage but i ran out of ideas an infortmation (i wanst able to find somthing online and ai isnt helpful too)

I’ll be on break from college next week, and I really want to try a different operating system. I basically use my PC only for gaming, and I don’t care about multiplayer titles. I know Nvidia GPUs usually have worse support on Linux compared to AMD, and I have an RTX 4060 Ti with an i5-12400F and 32GB of DDR4 RAM.

Will I run into any major issues gaming on Linux with this setup? Will I lose a lot of performance?

Hey everyone, I could really use some guidance. I recently made the switch to Linux (Zorin OS 18) and I'm trying to get into gaming on it, but honestly, I'm overwhelmed by all the tools and terminology.

I'm coming from Windows where you just install and play, and now I'm facing this whole new ecosystem of things like Wine, Proton, Bottles, Lutris, Heroic, DXVK, wine prefixes... and I don't know what any of it really means or where to start learning.

About my setup: I'm on a laptop with an Intel i5-6300U processor, Intel HD 520 graphics, and 8GB of RAM. I know it's not a gaming powerhouse, but I'm mostly trying to play older games and some lighter titles.

So far, I've tried: I installed Heroic Games Launcher from the Flathub store. I've managed to get a few games running by just clicking buttons and hoping for the best—sometimes choosing "Wine-GE" as the runner, sometimes choosing "Proton-GE," with no real understanding of what the difference is. When a game works, I'm happy but confused. When it doesn't, I have zero idea how to troubleshoot.

What I'm struggling with most are the basic concepts. Like, what actually is a wine prefix? Why are there so many different compatibility tools (Wine, Proton, GE versions)? Should I be using Lutris or Bottles instead of Heroic for certain games? And what's the deal with all these acronyms like DXVK and Esync?

I'm not looking for a quick fix for one specific game. I really want to understand this stuff from the ground up, but every guide I find either assumes I already know half of it or dives way too deep way too fast.

Can anyone point me toward a good, structured learning path? Like, what should I focus on understanding first? Are there any beginner-friendly resources that explain these concepts in plain language? What were the "aha!" moments for you when you were starting out with Linux gaming?

Hello, I was writing post about input lag on linux earlier, but no one could say why my pc have this input lag, so stopped searching and thinking that this issue is because of my setup Nvidia Wayland.

But later when I was testing my games again, I noticed that this issue appears, when my game have less than 100 fps.
I was playing native Team Fortress 2, having 200 fps didn't seems to have some issues at all, but in spikes of lower fps is getting worse as fps gets lower.

I think that this is with x11 too, cause this was why I changed my system to Nobara, and as I on Nobara I can't tell right now if x11 will fix this, but as I have dual monitor setup with different hz I can't use x11, but can test this if needed.

I have this problem for 4 month already, I can't fix this no matter what I do, no updates have fixed this, and no one seems to know what is wrong besides my nvidia gpu. If anybody have some information, please tell me what is wrong with my linux setup.

I recently switched from Windows 10 to Linux Mint. I have a fairly old laptop with 16 GB of RAM, a 7th-generation i7 processor, and an NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics card.
I usually play older games like Crusader Kings 3 in single-player mode. Since installing Linux Mint, I’ve been having problems with Crusader Kings 3 when using Proton version 10.3 from Steam: after a few hours of gameplay, the computer freezes completely, forcing me to shut it down manually and restart it. What could be causing the problem?
I’m using medium-low graphics settings and never experienced any issues on Windows. I also installed the NVIDIA 535 drivers, as recommended by Linux Mint.
