Some games default to Integrated graphics

04. September 2025 - 18:06

tldr: some games default to Integrated instead of dedicated graphics causing performance issues.

Build and OS:

MoBo:ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D @ 5.76 GHz RAM: Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) 6400MHz CL40 GPU:Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT; Memory: 2TB Samsung 990 Evo plus M2 pcei SSD plus x2 4TB Samsung 990 Evo plus M2 pcei SSD plus one Samsung 870 EVO 4TB SATA III SSD. PSU: Vetroo 1000W ATX 3.1 OS: CachyOS x86_64, rolling

System updates done.

I'm currently experiencing some issues with 2 steam games, black myth wukong and Metal gear Delta snake eater. The games launches but it defaults to integrated amd graphics instead of dedicated GPU. Low FPS count, screen tearing and slow performance ensure. Interesting the CPU is not reaching high % levels plateau at around 5%. Happened I dementedly of proton version I've tried cachyOs proton, GE proton, proton experimental bleeding edge, proton hotfix and same issue. Other games (Cyberpunk 2077, persona 3 reload, EU4, crusader kings 3, etc) all work well. I've set the following commands: game-performance FSR4_UPGRADE=1 mangohub %command%; I've tried DRI_PRIME=1 %command% but games crashes. Had been unable to get to the point where I can adjust the in-game graphic settings due to low performance. Anyone else has experience something similar?

NTSync seems to have been merged, now expected in Wine 10.15

04. September 2025 - 17:57

One of the Wine maintainers talked a few months ago, after the merge request for Ntsync by Figura, of different approach to implement that MR that may be better suited for the project. Here its the new MR reworked and also approved by the 2 main Wine project maintainers as well as Elizabeth Figura.

https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/8445

So technically NTsync has been worked on for the past 2 months and its now merged (2 days ago), it should appear in the next release Wine 10.15.

Linux for gaming and recording

04. September 2025 - 17:52

I know this question has been asked many times but situation here is different probably cuz things are not working for me as they should

My PC Specs

CPU: Intel i3-4150T GOU: Intel HD 4400 RAM: 8GB DDR3 dual channel Menory: 480GB SSD Wifi and ethernet available

Distro I tried so far

i am trying to switch to linux for gaming and recording using obs for my youtube but I am facing problems

I tried these distro and desktop environments so far

—————————————————————————————

Linux mint cinnamon I get similar fps to windows and recording with obs just stayed frozen

Arch it felt laggy idk why I used arch install to install it

CachyOS good but it crashes after 2 to 3 days for no reason today it crashed cuz I was using wallpaper engine plugin from kde store

Pop os I tried to fullscreen the game and it made it super laggy the fps dropped to nearly 20 from almost 400 in windows mode

Nobara linux the obs was freezing/not recording at all encoder error

Currently using cachyos cosmic it is flickering when I use super+m to fullscreen when I use F11 as always to just zoom the game window in a small 1280x720 windows box instead of maximizing it to fullscreen

—————————————————————————————

Obs just freezes if u switch from windowed to fullscreen and vice versa

————————————————————————————— So my currently tested games are minecraft on lunarclient only I am unable to run any other games I have on steam I wanna play games like

—————————————————————————————

Team Fortress2 Rocket league Minecraft Minecraft bedrock if possible Genshin Impact Wuthering Waves Rocket League ————————————————————————————— Windows10 FPS TF2 60 turning off vsync flickers my screen Minecraft :118 Minecraft Bedrock :60 vsync Genshin Impact :23 Wuthering waves :21 Rocket League :32

Thanks.

Just got Silksong and disappointed it still have the controller bug where it will stop responding if you disconnect and reconnect the controller

04. September 2025 - 16:50

Same thing happens with the original HK with Linux version, if you disconnect your controller in the middle of a game and reconnect then the controller is no longer being detected

I have tried with an Xbox one controller and an 8bitdo and the same happens

I got HK through steam and decided to buy Silksong through gog and the same happens on both. Windows version through proton works just fine

Anyway to disable all but one controllers when launching a game through Proton, or change the order of controller detection?

04. September 2025 - 15:58

So Sekiro has this really frustrating bug where it only recognizes the first controller it detects, and it uses that for input. I have multiple controllers connected to my rig, including a steering wheel, shifter, handbrake, and a hotas setup. That means that my Xbox controller cannot be used for Sekiro while all those other stuff are connected. Having to squeeze behind my desk to unplug all the other peripherals before and after I play Sekiro is not something I am ready to do. So I need a workaround.

There are 2 potential ways that I can think of:

  1. Some script that can disable the other controllers when I launch the game. Maybe a proton argument.
  2. Something that can change the detection order of controllers, maybe system wide, or maybe only for proton.

Does anyone have any leads on whether any of this can be achieved? Or perhaps another workaround?

System Info:
Nobara, Sekiro through Steam, Flydigi Vader 4 Pro controller (via xinput, recognized as xbox controller).

How does a VM + GPU pass-through works in practice?

04. September 2025 - 15:42

I'm new on the platform and I'm loving Linux as a desktop, it's much better than Windows, sometimes though you need windows for some games. I was looking into GPU pass-through (I already have a VM running but without any pass-through) but I'm not sure how does it work in practice. I don't want to go through all the trouble of installing it only to find out that it doesn't work as I expected.

1) Do I need to reboot or log-off before launching it or can I launch the VM normally?

2) Can I still fully utilize my main GPU for playing games in Linux even after the pass-through?

3) Do I need to have the monitor connected to my iGPU (I only have one monitor)?

Basically what I'like to know is if it works seamlessly like a normal VM does. And if it doesn't, what are the differences.

Pop! o Garuda?

04. September 2025 - 14:33

Intel i5 - 11400k si no me equivoco. 24 Gb de RAM.

Free short indie game with a native Linux build: Consumption Line

04. September 2025 - 14:06

I just released a small experimental indie game called Consumption Line. It's 100% free on Steam (no ads, no mtx), takes about 30 minutes to play, and it runs natively on Linux.

I use Linux as my daily driver (I use Arch btw), so having a native build was important to me. I know Proton has made compatibility great for most titles, but I still wanted to make sure Linux users could run this without any layers in between.

The game itself is about food systems, efficiency, deceptive advertising and capitalism. You work on a soup factory production line where quotas rise and the ingredients get stranger each day.

My controller is not being recognized by Steam

04. September 2025 - 13:39

Hi everyone,

I cannot get my controller to work with Steam and it just says "No controllers detected". I am using a wireless controller that I am connecting via a wireless adapter. I am on Linux Mint 22.1 and I have installed Steam from either the official website or the Linux Mint repository. The inputs of the controller work perfectly when I use an online gamepad tester and the controller is called "057e-2009-Canyon controller GPW3". For some reason, when I run lsusb it detects it as this:

Bus 001 Device 010: ID 057e:2009 Nintendo Co., Ltd Switch Pro Controller

In Steam settings, I have enabled Steam input for Xbox, Switch Pro and generic controllers as well as support for Playstation controllers.

Any help is appreciated.

Why Linux ( steamos) can’t support microphone input and output but output only

04. September 2025 - 10:59

It’s wild why when I try to connect my headphones with mic ends up as the headphone mic input can’t be used at all. After further research I found it’s a Linux issue and you need to use a wired TRRS headset combo etc for this. Am I missing something or is there any way to connect by headphones with mic to my steamdeck. It works effortlessly in windows :/

Forgot to mention via Bluetooth. Wired works I think ( personally haven’t tested )
