(PSA) If you like me are experiencing crashes with Halo: The Master Chief Collection on the latest Proton version. Use Proton 11.0 (Beta) and report it to Valve please.

12. Mai 2026 - 12:35

A recent Proton experimental update is causing Halo TMCC to crash randomly reverting back to Proton 11.0 (Beta) fixed this issue for me.

This is similar to this Reddit post.

Please report to Valve on the Proton issue tracker on Github.

Thank you

CS2

12. Mai 2026 - 12:13

Hey guys, I was wondering if I can make steam install the windows version of CS2 instead of the native linux version, I have a limited internet quota and CS2 is roughly 50GB download so I don't wanna download twice for windows and linux, is there a way to know which one is being downloaded or even make the download lighter on usage?

Does stellar blade support dualsense edge on Linux? (Rumble and triggers)

12. Mai 2026 - 11:33

I was trying out the demo and also the full version of stellar blade running in steam and I can't seem to get the features working or more like I don't know if they're supported because everything on my end is set up correctly. Trying everything from switching the audio to the controller as well as making sure that I'm wired as well as steam input is turned off. The game shows PlayStation prompts so I know it's working. Tried switching the audio to the controller and all that does is play the whole computer including the games audio through the little mono speaker. I have The speaker sets quad mode or something like that in the wine prefix settings. All other dual sense supported games work perfectly fine. Tried both wine and proton same result. I don't have a standard dual sense to test it with only my dual sense edge

Linux Mint Fallout 3 and New Vegas getting less than 1 fps consistently

12. Mai 2026 - 10:54

I just swapped over from WIndows 10 to Linux Mint (Cinnamon) and when trying to play fallout 3 and New Vegas I'm consistently getting around 1 frame everything 2 seconds. Hardware: Some no-name H81 chipset motherboard from around 2019, I have no idea what cpu, Rtx 3080. Some relevant things below:

-Checking other games, fallout 3 has roughly the same problem but crashes more often at startup.

-Both run smoothly in the launcher then get worse entering the loading screen and gameplay

-Swapping compatibility tools before launching has very little effect, they either stay at roughly the same fps or they crash entirely.

-One thing I noticed when launching, Vulkan Shader processing on launching the game takes around 20 minutes. Not sure how that impacts it, but it's another issue unique to those two games

Need help testing our student game's Linux port on different distros

12. Mai 2026 - 10:52

We’re a small group of game development students from ENTI / Universitat de Barcelona working on our first game, Why The Hell Am I In Heaven?!, a 2D Bullet Hell + Metroidvania project made in Unity.

We recently decided to fully support Linux because we believe games should be accessible on more platforms, especially for the Linux gaming community.
The problem is... we only have access to a few distros and setups ourselves 😅

We would really appreciate if some of you could help us test the Linux build on different distributions, desktop environments, drivers, or hardware setups to see if everything works correctly.

Things we’d love feedback on:

  • Does the game launch correctly?
  • Any crashes or graphical issues?
  • Performance problems?
  • Audio/input issues?
  • Proton needed or native build works fine?
  • Your distro + GPU setup

The game is completely free and this is purely a student project made for learning and passion.

About the game:

A dark and weird reinterpretation of Heaven inspired by Christian mythology, mixing exploration, platforming, and intense bullet hell combat.

You can download the Linux beta here:
https://chocobomgames.itch.io/why-the-hell-am-i-in-heaven

Thanks a lot to anyone willing to help us test it ❤️
Linux support is important to us and we want to make sure the port actually works properly outside our machines.

Anyone got DLSS Frame Generation to work on Alan Wake 2?

12. Mai 2026 - 10:11

I can use DLSS Upscaling just fine, but Frame Generation is greyed out.

I tried a variety of up-to-date runners (proton GE, kron4ek etc.), even swapped out the DLSS and DLSS FG DLLs in the game dir, tried various environment variables, but nothing seems to work, FG option is greyed out.

Anyone got this working?

Anyone else noticing the sudden NVIDIA + Proton acceleration lately?

12. Mai 2026 - 09:47

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but does anyone else feel like something weird is happening between Valve and NVIDIA lately?

I started digging through the NVIDIA Vulkan beta driver changelogs:
https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

And since late 2025 / early 2026 the acceleration has been kinda insane.

They’re suddenly pushing a huge amount of advanced Vulkan features related to:

  • DX12 translation
  • descriptor heaps
  • ray tracing
  • device address commands
  • shader memory models
  • opacity micromaps
  • low overhead GPU scheduling

Stuff that feels VERY relevant for Proton / VKD3D / modern game engines.

What really caught my attention is this:
VK_KHR_device_address_commands was added in NVIDIA’s Vulkan beta drivers on March 13th 2026.

And literally right after that, VKD3D-Proton already started implementing support:
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/pull/3005

There’s also this newer PR:
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/pull/3008

And overall there’s been a LOT of recent low-level NVIDIA-focused work in VKD3D-Proton around:

  • RT
  • descriptor heaps
  • opacity micromaps
  • advanced Vulkan extensions

Which feels surprising considering SteamOS is still officially AMD-focused.

So now I’m seriously wondering:
are Valve and NVIDIA quietly preparing something together?

Like:

  • a SteamOS handheld with NVIDIA silicon?
  • a living room console?
  • ARM + DLSS + Proton?
  • broader official SteamOS support for OEM RTX devices?

Because honestly, the pace NVIDIA is moving at on Linux/Vulkan right now feels completely different from the old “minimum viable Linux support” era.

Maybe I’m completely reaching here, but the timing between NVIDIA driver releases and VKD3D implementation work feels almost coordinated lately.

How to play games with 5.1 Surround Sound with Samsung Soundbar via eARC/HDMI?

12. Mai 2026 - 09:12

Hello, not so long ago I purchased a Samsung B650 soundbar and the paired rear speakers, for use with a Samsung TV. I had the idea to connect my gaming PC from another room so that I might play games with surround sound through the speaker system. My first attempt was to set up a Raspberry Pi 4 with Steam Link and stream games, but I could not get surround sound to work with the rpi. Next, I decided to get a long optical HDMI cable and physically connect the PC from another room to the TV. Still, I cannot get surround sound to work. PAVU indicates the output device is set to Digital 5.1, but any games or online tests I run play nothing from the rear speakers. I know the speakers work, because I also have a Roku device and have tested streaming media with 5.1 surround and it works flawlessly.

The gaming PC is running Kubuntu 25.10. On another post someone mentioned enabling Pass-through in the TV settings but that did nothing for me.

I have spent a decent amount of money and time trying to get this to work and no luck so far. I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to help me out.

Sunspire Studios/Tux Racer question

12. Mai 2026 - 08:07

This is a bit of a weird question, but does anyone happen to know where I can get a hold of Jasmin Patry, or anyone else who might've worked at Sunspire?

This game was my first ever special interest, I played it when I was like 4 and just barely got it to work again and man, the nostalgia 😭😭😭

Planning to switch to Nobara KDE

12. Mai 2026 - 04:13

Hi all! I finally decided to migrate fron Doors to Linux (fykyk) so I've been doing a research bout which distro suits best for me.

My main interests are:

- Gaming

- Content creation (video edition, music production, streaming)

- Customization

Do you think that Nobara KDE is a good choice? I tried CachyOS but I found it a bit difficult as a beginner and Bazzite seems to be limited as it's mainly focused on gaming.

Here are my specs, pls lmk ur thoughts:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 8700F

- Motherboard: MSI PRO-B650M-B

- RAM: DDR5 1x32GB

- GPU: ASUS 4070 SUPER 12GB

- Storage: just don't worry bout that lol

Thx!

I built a native Plasma 6 clock widget inspired by Life is Strange (Looking for technical feedback/advice)

12. Mai 2026 - 03:03

Hey everyone,

A while back I got obsessed with the idea of making my desktop look a bit more like something out of Life is Strange. I use Plasma 6 daily and kept trying different widgets, but none of them really had the vibe I wanted, so I ended up making my own.

It’s basically a neon clock with animated blue butterflies floating around it. I went with vector animations mostly because the first versions were heavier than I expected and started feeling kind of awful once desktop blur/effects were enabled.

Everything’s written in Qt6/QML. The glow uses MultiEffect. Honestly the hardest part was stopping the thing from becoming annoying performance-wise after leaving it running for hours. I also added a small "Glow Decay" thing because I use an OLED monitor and paranoid brain said static neon elements were probably a bad idea.

This is the first plasmoid I’ve actually pushed out publicly, so I’m curious if anyone notices weird behavior on Wayland or spots obvious QML mistakes/performance issues.

GitHub:
https://github.com/shadi-maani/life-is-strange-butterfly-widget-clock

Pling:
https://www.opendesktop.org/p/2359080/

The visuals are fan-made obviously. Just heavily inspired by the game.

Need some help with integrated graphics

12. Mai 2026 - 02:55

I have a ryzen 7 7800x3d if that’s of any use but I’ve tried everything googles thrown at me,

I also use hyprland

it’s a little too much to remember but I’ve tried things like setting up a new monitor in my hyprland.conf, using a hdmi cable in my mother board, setting an env variable with my cards that I got, installed all the correct drivers (atleast the ones I’ve been told) made sure nomodeset and vga= aren’t in I believe it was mkinit, but could’ve been grub, whatever one you put nvidia.drm.modeset in if that’s what it’s called, I’ve added amdgpu to modules in grub,

it can detect integrated graphics, but the moment my dedicated gpu stops displaying or I try to force igpu it just refuses to work, I’m not really sure what much more I can provide (I’ve read the wiki on multi gpus and followed that too) but I will try to provide as much as I can,

I’m trying to use igpu to do gpu pass through on qemu to play certain windows games that require windows (games like kinito pet) and bypasses for virtual machine detected games (like skate. to see if i can get that working) and also to try and let malware run in a safe environment to test dodgy steam games as there’s atleast 1 game that i know of that’s on the steam store (has been for a while) that is just blatantly a crypto miner that’s still not been taken down, which is unfortunate cuz it’s actually a pretty fun game

I am SOOOO fkn tired of having to work with half the games just to get them to work right.

12. Mai 2026 - 02:48

Fuck Windows and Fuck Mcafee but man, I never had any issues. I could simply click on a game and it just fucking work. I don’t have to run bottles for a Windows program. I don’t have to spend hours trying to get my fucking headphones to work with the game. I don’t spend days researching solutions on why this game isn’t working on Windows.

I hate Linux but I hate Windows more. Thank you for coming to my rant.

I’m designing a video game that teaches basic terminal commands through survival horror gameplay for my bachelor project.

12. Mai 2026 - 02:27

Hi! I’m creating a bachelor project around a survival horror game concept meant to teach bash basics through gameplay.

Why?

There is an ongoing challenge with users who want to reap the benefits of Linux, but feel intimidated by its learning curve.

At times traditional tutorials can feel steep, dry, or disconnected from the actual situations users might find themselves dealing with in reality.

So I thought, what better than actually doing to learn.

The challenge is making bash fundamentals accessible and engaging enough that players persist through the initial discomfort.

What is /dev/null’s idea?

/dev/null teaches common bash syntax through survival horror gameplay.

The idea is to use the controlled pressure survival horror already creates to make the learning experience more engaging and memorable.
Players use in-game terminals to explore directories, manipulate files, and solve practical command-line tasks.

Failed commands increase the threat level, forcing players to learn under pressure.

The design draws from analog horror, sound design, and atmosphere.

What is this post’s scope?

I’m currently validating the design direction before committing to the antagonist and reveal trailer concept.

I’d love feedback from people who enjoy the genre this idea is rooted in, especially people who are interested in the horror aspect.

I want to know which direction feels the most interesting and fitting for the concept from someone other than myself.

Comments are very welcome, but the survey helps me compare the results more clearly.

Written design brief descriptions Brief A

Antagonist:
SHODAN’s humanoid robotic aspect and dynamic reach of action
+
SCP-079’s static computer presence, disruptive behavior, and anticipative intelligence.

Mechanics:
Core: The player completes terminal-based tasks in an office to secure their escape.

Threat aspect: The antagonist begins as a static computer entity, then gains a physical body after the player learns the basics.

Failure consequence: Each mistake turns off another row of lights in the office area. The player loses safe, visible space, while the entity gains more dark ground to move through, stalk, sabotage from, and eventually reach & attack the player.

Counterplay: Special terminal interactions can temporarily disable its physical body, leaving only its computer-based disruption active.

Brief B

Antagonist:
Alien: Isolation’s Xenomorph as an intelligent hunter and stalker
+
The Mimic as an entity that adapts to its immediate environment.

Mechanics:
Core: The player must move from terminal to terminal to complete their job while being relentlessly hunted.

Movement rule: The player can hide, but can only safely step on lit paths.

Threat aspect: The entity is aware of the player’s condition, objective, and surroundings.

Escape condition: To escape, the player must temporarily stun the antagonist and deactivate it through terminal syntax within a short time window.

Brief C

Antagonist:
The Beast’s (Inscryption) manipulative gamemaster behavior
+
Glitchtrap’s trickster/shadow-character aspect.

Mechanics:
Core: The antagonist is a manipulative gamemaster that interferes with mechanics, changes the rules to unsettle the player, and creates a feeling of omnipresence.

Failure consequence: Like Brief A, mistakes turn off rows of lights, giving the antagonist more ground and dynamic reach.

Gameplay direction: This direction is closest to traditional FNaF gameplay, reworked around terminal interaction.

Survival condition: The player survives by adapting to rule changes and keeping as many rows of lights active as possible through correct command usage.

Thank you for reading and for showing interest in the project :)

Any feedback from this community would genuinely help me decide whether this concept has ground to stand on, and which direction is worth developing further.
