Problem while trying to install Utawarerumono (2002) on Linux Mint
Trying to launch either setup or autorun from "mounted" ISO or extracted files from the same ISO via Bottles with Proton v.10-21 results in an error message which can not be read (either due to unsupported encoding or fonts, can not say which). When launching setup.exe, the only intelligible part of the error message is "install.inf", a file in a root of the dvd image, while trying to run "autorun.exe" results in this error: Error-unknwn.png
The game installed and worked fine on Windows 11, english Mirror Moon patch and all, but suffice it to say, little else worked fine on Windows 11 for me, hence migration to Mint, and I do not have dual boot available.
Does anyone encountered this issue? Is there any possible solutions?
PS: I know about the remake on Steam. I also heard that the translation of it is worse than the Mirror Moon one, which I can easily believe. Going by their Tsukihime and Fate translations, which I read god knows how many years ago, Mirror Moon's work is certainly memorable, blunders and all, and I'll take that over someone phoning it in for a paycheck.

2021 MBP Cooked
Hello everyone, my MBP 14" with M1 Max is more than likely cooked. I was dumb enough to put it in my wife's Frunk alongside some food items that contained oil (the MBP was already there but I was dumb enough not to relocate it to another part of the car).
Long story short, the oil from the food got into my computer and destroyed the computer.
I'm in the market now for a new laptop with a 5080 mobile. I will definitely put Linux on it (more than likely Ubuntu 25.10 and then 26.04 when it becomes available). My question is what would you recommend that has a minimum of 64gb RAM, a 5080 mobile with great thermals.
I only play one game (WoW), but I do a lot of ML/Data science projects which will utilize CUDA, matplotlib, scipy, numpy and other data science and ML/AI libraries. Battery life is not super important as my computer is typically plugged in.
In the future, I'll probably delve into other gaming.

I want to host a Minecraft server from Debian
I have a server with my boyfriend in Aternos but the 4 GB litim is absurd, so i was wondering if it is possible to host somehow a MC server in linux debian WITH MODS. I know is possible since in 2021 my father did one for me and my sisters, but he can't remember how and neither it had mods.
I am a noob, but it's ok, anything i don't understand i will ask my dad, so don't be shy in sharing. Thanks!!!

Anyone old enough to remember the terrible game bloboats? Who developed that, and what ever happened to the game?
Part 2 of a previous post
So my friend made a game that is a .desktop file, but he also made a .exe version. I tried using wine to open it but it never works. Is there a step by step surefire way or set of commands you guys can copy and paste into the comments for me to use?
If it helps any, I run Linux on Chrome OS

I'm a CS Student and made a gui tray app to fix Corsair headset issues on Linux (Battery, Sidetone, Lights). Feedback welcome!
Hello everyone. I'm a computer science student, and I created this project out of necessity: I was looking for a clean way to see the status of my Corsair headset on Linux without constantly relying on the terminal.
Because of this, I thought of making something similar to the proprietary software options we have for Windows, a "widget" to be able to view the battery without relying on the CLI, making it comfortable and accessible. Take a look if you're interested; I openly welcome opinions and comments about the project.

help with steam
hello y'all, so I've installed Linux for a few days, but in all the distro I have tried (Ubuntu, mint, pop os, manjaro...) steam never worked, the only time it almost worked is with nobara, but only with one single game, and after restarting the computer it stopped working. with steam not working I mean that I can't run it, or I can but both I can't install proton (disk write error), or just can't run games, without any error, just doesn't work. the only thing that I did is changing the game directory to an external SSD, but even before I did it, it didn't work. Can someone help me?

looking for a steelseries mixer/noise cancellation alternative for linux
so i've been considering making the jump from windows to linux, already checked most of my software and games and i'd say most of the stuff i use is compatible or native, or can be used with proton or wine (based on what i've read i'm not suuuper knowledgable yet)
now here's my situation, i love the control steelseries.gg gives me in terms of the mixer functionality, routing, and noise cancellation for my mic, as well as 100% mic monitoring uptime (after so long having it to make sure i soudn good and my level is good, i just can't seem to use my mic anymore without it), all of which runs fairly well in one package without a crazy overhead or latency, and streamer mode is amazing for separating the levels that i hear vs what viewers hear when i stream,
and here's the question now that you have the info: is there a good alternative? either all in 1 for all the features listed above or a low number of programs to get all the features i want, i'm not a fan of gpu based noise cancellation (rtx voice/broadcast) as everytime i've tried something like that it's run into issues or randomly decided to use all my gpu resources weirdly.
i'm new to linux so my searching skills for something like that is not as good as finding software and alternatives for things for windows, so i figured i'd ask here
TLDR: looking for a mixer/eq/mic monitoring/noise cancellation for linux as either an all in one package or a low number of packages to get the same usefulness

FPS drop when playing any video (Nvidia GPU)
https://reddit.com/link/1ogy83z/video/194l17b69jxf1/player
You can see the fps drop and the frametime going crazy when I press the play button, I get the same result when playing the video in brave, firefox and even VLC media player (flatpak).
I thought it might be the powermizer because it was acting weird like lower clock speed and lower power consumption when the video is playing, so I ran
nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/GpuPowerMizerMode=1
in the terminal hoping that would fix things, The number now look normal in powermizer the clocks and power is what they should be, but the issue is still there.
I have followed this guide to install my nvidia driver and the one i have currently is 580.95.05
Edit: I forgot to add the game is BDO and is running on lutris, I tried Proton - Exp, GE-Proton 9-4 And GE-Proton 10-20. I installed both of the GE Protons through ProtonUp-Qt, And the Experimental just came with the package.
Note: I have two GPUs one is RTX3080 which is the Main one, and Another which is the AMD Radeon R7 430 in hopes to have VFIO setup when I find the right tutorial, I haven't touched the AMD GPU from the software side, but the second monitor is connected to it.

Im suddenly getting double inputs on Steam games, does anyone else have/had that problem?
As the title says, since a month ore two ago I noticed that sometimes I get random inputs (pause or home button) or random double inputs. At first I thought my controller (8bitdo ultimate 2c, 2,4ghz dongle) simply started to act up, but after trying another controller (switch pro controller with a cable) I had the exact same problem. Changing USB ports didnt help either. So clearly it seems to be an OS or Steam problem. Right now Im on Fedora 42, fully updated, no unusual configurations done at all, using RPM Steam. In Steam I disabled Steam input but tried to enable it too, but the problem persisted. Whats interesting though is the fact that I dont see double inputs on gamepad tester (a website) as well as the Steam input testing option. But there might be a chance that I simply didnt see it, so Im not too sure if this says anything. Chances are that the double inputs are so fast that it doesnt show on test software but still get registered in games.
Anyway, I would appreciate some ideas how to proceed from here. Maybe I just install Fedora 43 once its out and test the Steam Flatpak version as well.

[Benchmark} Windows vs Linux Gaming – 10 AAA Games Side-by-Side | RX 580 + Ryzen 1600 | Clean Gameplay Benchmarks
After my previous Linux-only benchmark post, I wanted to take things further - this time testing Windows 11 Pro (23H2) vs Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS across the same 10 AAA games, side-by-side.
All footage is clean gameplay only - no menus, no load screens, no inventory pauses.
Each test was filtered using a custom Python script to remove spikes and non-playable segments, giving a fair comparison between both OSes.
---
## System Specs
CPU : Ryzen 5 1600
GPU : XFX RX 580 8 GB (Mesa 25.0.7 / Adrenalin 25.8.1)

---
## Notes
- Recorded via MangoHUD (Linux) and MSI Afterburner (Windows).
- CPU/Driver shown with CPU-X / CoreCtrl (Linux) and CPU-Z / GPU-Z (Windows).
- Chapters available in the video for each title and specs section.
- All runs captured at 1080p, V-Sync Off.
---
## **Full benchmark video (side-by-side overlays + charts)**:
-> [https://youtu.be/LnU8M484Cow\]
---
## Conclusions
- On average, Linux trails Windows by ~15-20%, mostly due to shader and translation overhead.
- Frame pacing is consistently smoother on Linux in lighter titles like GTA V and Uncharted 4.
- Heavy CPU-bound titles (TLOU I/II, Elden Ring) still favor Windows but remain playable.
- Given identical hardware, Ubuntu + Wine GE proves remarkably capable for AAA gaming.
Would love your feedback - especially if you’ve tested any of these titles with newer Wine/Proton GE builds or kernel patches!

Minecraft performance is worse compared to when I had windows.
I switched to Linux Fedora yesterday. Has been a great experience. I installed Minecraft expecting it to run better than windows, but instead it was actually worse. On windows i could run at 32 render distance with stable fps and no micro-stutters. On Linux at 32 render distance, anytime I move my camera I get this insane micro-stutters. It's really annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am already using performance mods like Sodium & such. I'm on Java 21.

Weird gpu performance
Anyone else experienced this weird behavior?
GPU frequency and power is low in rdr2 and then suddenly ramps up to expected performance. Performance is most often sluggish…
TUF 7900 XTX
It only happens in some games. GoW Ragnarok for example performs perfect at around 100% gpu utilization.
I have tried everything I Can Think of. Different compatability levels. Setting GPU frequency fixed at ~2500mhz for both min and Max. Both via corectrl and rocm-smi. Using gamemoderun. Made sure mesa drivers are up to date.
It works fine in windows.
