New GPU now it's not detecting?

20. November 2024 - 04:30

I haven't had this problem ever since I've been on Linux but I got a new GPU a rx470 I put it in and it works fine except it doesn't in games cause in the graphics settings in pop_os I see llvmpipe which is not my graphics card and has to be the reason why I can't play any games.

I've tried to install Ubuntu drivers but nothing helps my PC also takes awhile to turn off now with the new card

How can I help my friend remotely with his DE?

20. November 2024 - 04:18

So, over the phone/video, together we installed win11+Ubuntu LTS on a completely empty SSD (Cpu some Ryzen G with a GPU in it) and everything is set up fine boot-wise, as this is really not my first dual boot rodeo (only my first one for a while), but when booting into Ubuntu, the screen stays black, we can indeed invoke another Ctrl+alt+F1 terminal, log into it and then startx to get a very rudimentary screen output.

So I guess, Ubuntu is not able to execute Wayland?? and doesn't even bother to try startx anymore while booting? May that be correct? How could I try to help them, I mean, TeamViewer exists, but where do I even look for what happened? I don't even know if the newest version had xwayland, which would render it useless for the second afaik

I think I'm stuck at some bug where I literally have no fkn clue about anything of the codebase as wayland and x11 goes waaaaaaay above my head. I'm extremely confused that the typical boot path doesn't even output anything while I still can tickle the system for a startx

I will look into which kernel modules are loaded upon boot, as the USB image worked flawlessly, but I don't think this will be the very problem, as this is an AMD PC, so there are no propertiary drivers. That's the reason why I ask here about what to try else..

Nvidia Explicit Sync/Wayland Issues/fixes?

20. November 2024 - 04:16

Hey all,

I'm sure many of you have also been afflicted by the botched switch to explicit sync. I for one can no longer play MSFS 2020 among numerous other applications I've had to work on fixing. I'm curious if anyone has heard if either the Wayland team or the 570 drivers are supposed to include fixes for the issues introduced in 550+?

I'd really like to enjoy current driver support and play the games I like... Also not have to fix everything the green giant breaks. Just curious, thanks 😎

Mouse recommendations?

20. November 2024 - 03:45

So, I've had a Logitech G203 mouse for some years now, and I've had several issues with it: from the click switchs detecting double clicks to the scrolling wheel not detecting the scrolling correctly. I've been tinkering with it from time to time, but decided it's time for a change.

I first thought of a Logitech G502, a direct upgrade, but it seems like it suffers from the same issues. So maybe I should look for another brand entirely?

Here's what I'm looking for: • Linux compatible (obviously) • around the same price that a G502 (more or less) • At least the 2 side buttons (button 4 and button 5, those have given me some troubles too in the G203) • I don't mind color or RGB • That it lasts, at least more than a Logitech.

I don't know much about mouses, any suggestions?

Games that make heavy use of dual analog and all L/R buttons?

20. November 2024 - 03:11

I was intrigued by the layout of the old Wii U Pro controller, specifically with the analog sticks being on top. I want to see how well it works for playing games where all the important inputs are on L1/R1 and L2/R2.

Pretty much every controller I've ever used has not felt comfortable if I try to keep one finger on each of these buttons at the same time. So I want to really put this one through it's paces by playing games that require that kind of grip.

Also it's relevant because I do my gaming on Linux. 😎

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 not working on Linux Mint

19. November 2024 - 22:21

I'm having an issue launching Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Steam while using Linux. When I try to start the game, it begins loading, but I immediately get an Assertion Failed error from Wine. If I ignore the message, the game window does appear on top of it, but the error itself remains and doesn't go away.

Once the game is loaded, it gets stuck on the loading screen where it’s trying to connect to my Xbox account. At this point, if I interact with the error message, I’m given two options: either close the game or view debug information. However, when I choose to view the debug information, nothing happens and the game just closes.

I’ve tried launching the game multiple times, but I still have the same problem. Are any other Linux users experiencing this?

Have any 4000 series Nvidia users been able to get HDR crash-free in Wine-Wayland or Gamescope?

19. November 2024 - 21:50

I can get HDR working in both the Wine-Wayland driver, and running games inside of gamescope, but usually I'll get a crash after 4 minutes or so, IE: in baldur's gate it'll crash during the swoosh underground in the game's launch screen.

Can't tell if this is due to existing VRAM issues with gamescope or a buggy vulkan extension. I'm aware Nvidia drivers are finicky with gamescope, but it worked before, and I think some change in KWIN, gamescope, EGL-Wayland, or the nvidia driver itself is causing some issues.

This is in Fedora 41 with the latest 565 drivers on a 4070 super, already have HDR allowed via an environment variable in /etc/environment.

Has anyone tried the Intel Arc gpus yet on the new 6.12 kernel?

19. November 2024 - 21:04

They added in a bunch of additional support for alchemist and battlemage for this current kernel and am wondering if anyone here has tried it or is willing to try it and report back.

Should I setup a windows gaming VM or set up dual-booting

19. November 2024 - 20:41

I run Arch on my laptop and want to switch my main PC to Arch, but I play a lot of online games. I don't want to set up dual-booting because I don't want to restart my PC to switch between games. I was thinking about setting up a Windows VM to play games on that, but would I need to set up GPU passthrough for the best performance? I did some reading on GPU passthrough, and it doesn't seem that easy. I have a 3080 for my primary GPU and a 2070 super running my two side monitors. What would you guys recommend?

How difficult is it to get gaming working well on linux and what version would you recommend.

19. November 2024 - 19:55

I have always used windows. I really like the UI and almost everything about it but recently windows have been making some changes so i've started to consider Linux.

I've heard that it can be almost as good as windows given enough work so my question is.

How difficult is it to get gaming to be viable?

What programs would you recommend i install?

What version of Linux would you say is best for Gaming?

Proton Tricks not working

19. November 2024 - 19:32

Hello I have been trying to use proton tricks on my Lego Lord of the Rings so that I can fix the flashing water issue by installing the "dedx9_41". This is a process I already made on my deck so I have no idea why Proton Tricks wont work on my desktop PC.

Dirt 4 Wont open full screen

19. November 2024 - 17:03

Trying to play Dirt 4 on linux mint through steam and the game wont open full screen. The Dirt 4 launcher open up in full screen and then when I press play and the actual game launches it goes to a smaller windowed screen. When I press Alt+Enter the screen stays the same size but goes to an actual windowed screen where I can move the window around but still with a black background.

Any other game I launch opens full screen. Things ive tried,

  • Setting resolution in the game launcher to 1920X1080
  • Setting resolution in steam under manage > Properties to 1920X1080
  • Adding -fullscreen in launch options
  • Disconnecting 2nd display

Im not much of a PC gamer so if theres something obvious I havnt listed please feel free to mention it. Theres no stupid suggestions!

Wired remote gaming setup

19. November 2024 - 16:34

I want to play games in my home teater, from my PC in another room. I have tried moonshine+sunshine setup between my PC and Nvidia shield tv pro. My framerate is horrendus. I have come to the conclusion that my AMD gpu isnt built for this. The setup works flawlessly for my gf with her low tier RTX 3050...

I will try to use a fiber optic HDMI + Active USB cable(for my controller) as it needs to be 20m+

I will turn on the PC with WOL, but what is a not too "janky" way to open steam big picture mode? I would like to avoid using keyboard and mouse. I guess setting up something like "when controller connected, launch steam BPM" isnt possible.

Im also worried about steam/games launching on one of my monitors.

Any advice about this is really appreciated.

Anyone Here Game With Intel Iris Xe Max?

19. November 2024 - 15:49

Trying to figure out how to use the discrete Intel GPU that came with my laptop to improve gaming performance instead of the integrated graphics. Its a Dell Inspiron 7506 2n1.

Thinking of hopping distros to something with a newer kernal that supports it. I'm running Debian stable and I can't get it to work with the 6.1 kernel.
