RTX 5070 Laptop locked to 50W on Linux (ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025) anyone else hit this?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 13:53

So I just moved from Windows 11 to Arch Linux on my ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025 and my RTX 5070 is stuck at 50W no matter what I do. On Windows it runs at full 115W no problem so the hardware is fine, this is purely a Linux issue.

The GPU literally knows 115W exists, nvidia-smi shows it as the max limit, but the enforced limit is stuck at 50W and I can't change it. Even nvidia-smi -pl 115 just throws an error saying power management limit changes aren't supported for this GPU.

After a lot of digging the root cause seems to be that the kernel can't resolve an ACPI symbol called \_SB.PCI0.SBRG.BPWM, so the EC communication that normally tells the GPU its power budget at boot just never happens, and it falls back to 50W as a safe default. dmesg is absolutely full of these errors on every boot.

I've tried pretty much everything at this point. Changing DynamicPowerManagement from 3 to 1, manually writing PPT values to asus-nb-wmi, blacklisting the nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight module, flashing the latest BIOS (314 from April 2026). Nothing touches the enforced power limit.

asusd is also stuck in a boot loop where it times out every 90 seconds because it never sends the ready signal to systemd, even though it applies settings correctly internally.

My specs:

  • ASUS ROG Strix G16 2025 (G614FP)
  • Ryzen 9 9950HX
  • RTX 5070 Laptop GPU
  • Kernel 7.0.5-arch1-1
  • nvidia-open-dkms 595.71.05
  • BIOS G614FP.314
  • KDE Wayland

I've already filed bugs on the asus-linux GitLab and the Arch forums. Just wondering if anyone else with a 2025 ROG laptop has run into this or found a workaround.

It creates symlink (I think) for path that doesn't even exist?

(PSA) If you like me are experiencing crashes with Halo: The Master Chief Collection on the latest Proton version. Use Proton 11.0 (Beta) and report it to Valve please.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 12:35

A recent Proton experimental update is causing Halo TMCC to crash randomly reverting back to Proton 11.0 (Beta) fixed this issue for me.

This is similar to this Reddit post.

Please report to Valve on the Proton issue tracker on Github.

Thank you

CS2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 12:13

Hey guys, I was wondering if I can make steam install the windows version of CS2 instead of the native linux version, I have a limited internet quota and CS2 is roughly 50GB download so I don't wanna download twice for windows and linux, is there a way to know which one is being downloaded or even make the download lighter on usage?

Does stellar blade support dualsense edge on Linux? (Rumble and triggers)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 11:33

I was trying out the demo and also the full version of stellar blade running in steam and I can't seem to get the features working or more like I don't know if they're supported because everything on my end is set up correctly. Trying everything from switching the audio to the controller as well as making sure that I'm wired as well as steam input is turned off. The game shows PlayStation prompts so I know it's working. Tried switching the audio to the controller and all that does is play the whole computer including the games audio through the little mono speaker. I have The speaker sets quad mode or something like that in the wine prefix settings. All other dual sense supported games work perfectly fine. Tried both wine and proton same result. I don't have a standard dual sense to test it with only my dual sense edge

Linux Mint Fallout 3 and New Vegas getting less than 1 fps consistently

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 10:54

I just swapped over from WIndows 10 to Linux Mint (Cinnamon) and when trying to play fallout 3 and New Vegas I'm consistently getting around 1 frame everything 2 seconds. Hardware: Some no-name H81 chipset motherboard from around 2019, I have no idea what cpu, Rtx 3080. Some relevant things below:

-Checking other games, fallout 3 has roughly the same problem but crashes more often at startup.

-Both run smoothly in the launcher then get worse entering the loading screen and gameplay

-Swapping compatibility tools before launching has very little effect, they either stay at roughly the same fps or they crash entirely.

-One thing I noticed when launching, Vulkan Shader processing on launching the game takes around 20 minutes. Not sure how that impacts it, but it's another issue unique to those two games

Need help testing our student game's Linux port on different distros

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 10:52

We’re a small group of game development students from ENTI / Universitat de Barcelona working on our first game, Why The Hell Am I In Heaven?!, a 2D Bullet Hell + Metroidvania project made in Unity.

We recently decided to fully support Linux because we believe games should be accessible on more platforms, especially for the Linux gaming community.
The problem is... we only have access to a few distros and setups ourselves 😅

We would really appreciate if some of you could help us test the Linux build on different distributions, desktop environments, drivers, or hardware setups to see if everything works correctly.

Things we’d love feedback on:

  • Does the game launch correctly?
  • Any crashes or graphical issues?
  • Performance problems?
  • Audio/input issues?
  • Proton needed or native build works fine?
  • Your distro + GPU setup

The game is completely free and this is purely a student project made for learning and passion.

About the game:

A dark and weird reinterpretation of Heaven inspired by Christian mythology, mixing exploration, platforming, and intense bullet hell combat.

You can download the Linux beta here:
https://chocobomgames.itch.io/why-the-hell-am-i-in-heaven

Thanks a lot to anyone willing to help us test it ❤️
Linux support is important to us and we want to make sure the port actually works properly outside our machines.

Anyone got DLSS Frame Generation to work on Alan Wake 2?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 10:11

I can use DLSS Upscaling just fine, but Frame Generation is greyed out.

I tried a variety of up-to-date runners (proton GE, kron4ek etc.), even swapped out the DLSS and DLSS FG DLLs in the game dir, tried various environment variables, but nothing seems to work, FG option is greyed out.

Anyone got this working?

Anyone else noticing the sudden NVIDIA + Proton acceleration lately?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 09:47

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but does anyone else feel like something weird is happening between Valve and NVIDIA lately?

I started digging through the NVIDIA Vulkan beta driver changelogs:
https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

And since late 2025 / early 2026 the acceleration has been kinda insane.

They’re suddenly pushing a huge amount of advanced Vulkan features related to:

  • DX12 translation
  • descriptor heaps
  • ray tracing
  • device address commands
  • shader memory models
  • opacity micromaps
  • low overhead GPU scheduling

Stuff that feels VERY relevant for Proton / VKD3D / modern game engines.

What really caught my attention is this:
VK_KHR_device_address_commands was added in NVIDIA’s Vulkan beta drivers on March 13th 2026.

And literally right after that, VKD3D-Proton already started implementing support:
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/pull/3005

There’s also this newer PR:
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/pull/3008

And overall there’s been a LOT of recent low-level NVIDIA-focused work in VKD3D-Proton around:

  • RT
  • descriptor heaps
  • opacity micromaps
  • advanced Vulkan extensions

Which feels surprising considering SteamOS is still officially AMD-focused.

So now I’m seriously wondering:
are Valve and NVIDIA quietly preparing something together?

Like:

  • a SteamOS handheld with NVIDIA silicon?
  • a living room console?
  • ARM + DLSS + Proton?
  • broader official SteamOS support for OEM RTX devices?

Because honestly, the pace NVIDIA is moving at on Linux/Vulkan right now feels completely different from the old “minimum viable Linux support” era.

Maybe I’m completely reaching here, but the timing between NVIDIA driver releases and VKD3D implementation work feels almost coordinated lately.

How to play games with 5.1 Surround Sound with Samsung Soundbar via eARC/HDMI?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. Mai 2026 - 09:12

Hello, not so long ago I purchased a Samsung B650 soundbar and the paired rear speakers, for use with a Samsung TV. I had the idea to connect my gaming PC from another room so that I might play games with surround sound through the speaker system. My first attempt was to set up a Raspberry Pi 4 with Steam Link and stream games, but I could not get surround sound to work with the rpi. Next, I decided to get a long optical HDMI cable and physically connect the PC from another room to the TV. Still, I cannot get surround sound to work. PAVU indicates the output device is set to Digital 5.1, but any games or online tests I run play nothing from the rear speakers. I know the speakers work, because I also have a Roku device and have tested streaming media with 5.1 surround and it works flawlessly.

The gaming PC is running Kubuntu 25.10. On another post someone mentioned enabling Pass-through in the TV settings but that did nothing for me.

I have spent a decent amount of money and time trying to get this to work and no luck so far. I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to help me out.
