Games are running slow on linux and weirdly enough changing my graphics to be higher or lower dont seem to change the lag as much as i would expect

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 04:24

i just got linux a few days ago and am wanting to make the full shift but im currently still settings things up and im noticing i am having ALOT more lag on linux when trying to game than on windows, so far the 2 games ive tried is roblox (using the sober port) And warframe using steam and proton and roblox is barely playable and warframe on its lowest settings isnt and i dont know whats causing it and i do notice that my ui out of either game also gets slower like i notice my mouse gets slower and my audio on a youtube video gets glitchy
I am running a dualboot set up where windows is on one partition and linux is on another and i installed a seperate version of both games on each partition and ive swapped between linux and windows a few times to make sure it wasnt just that something had borked while i was setting up linux and transfering files from windows to linux

Is there a need for a music control widget in linux gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 03:51

Like how windows has a clunky, but existing game bar with many functionality such as screenshots, recording tools, music control, I was wondering if Linux has this, or needs this as well? I have a project called hyprwave on GitHub, and it basically uses gtk4 and gtk4-layer-shell to overlay on other windows. The bad thing is, the system i am developing on it, has really old hardware, no GPU, intel i3 4th gen, and it's a laptop (I use old systems because then it forces me to optimise, it's a dell Inspiron 11 3148). So, I can't test myself, even Terraria crashes for me. So, the main ask was -> is there a need? My thought of the use case was perhaps in relaxing games or some other long winding games where you might need to put on your own music, but can't switch back and forth between your game and music player. And another ask-> if there is, could it be possible to test it on your system with any game to see how it works? That's all I'd like to know, thanks. This is the GitHub link-> https://github.com/shantanubaddar/hyprwave

Some games run fantastic and some run like garbage

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 03:46

I recently installed Linux mint and I got everything set up and launched resident evil 4 and it doesn't run well. It stutters horribly. Then I laughed cyberpunk 2077 and it arguably runs better than on windows. My question is, do I just need to cycle through proton versions to see if it helps or do I just resign to my fate?

Should my BG3 game be lagging or it's an external error?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 03:16

Hello! I am trying to play BG3 but the games lags sometimes, don't matter wich settings I use (even on low, in fact the settings don't change the frequency the lags happens)
The lag happens at random, I can't find a specific trigger but generally the longer I play the chances get higher.
I started a new game and the lag is happening in the chargen (but honestly, I don't remember if it happened before)

My system:

Operating System: Kubuntu 25.10 KDE
Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.17.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel Version: 6.17.0-12-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 6 × AMD Ryzen 5 3500X 6-Core Processor
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (15.5 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 580 2048SP

launch settings:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="DWrite.dll=n,b" gamemoderun %command%

My mods (ignore the warning, I do have Script Extender working, but the BG3MM can't never find it on linux even if the game is able to find it)

mod list 1

mod list 2

mod list 3

At the moment I am using proton hotfix, but I tried proton GE 10.28 and proton 9.0

Is there a way to make the adaptive triggers work on the Apex 5 in Linux? I am asking to decide if it is worth purchasing over a Vader 5 Pro.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 03:13

Hi All! I am thinking about picking up a new Flydigi Apex 5 but the Vader 5 Pro also exists and may be a WAY better value in the long run as I use Nobara.

I would like adaptive triggers on a controller without unreliable potentiometers but only the Apex 5 exists and I can't find information on support for it.

General Gaming on Linux Questions

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 01:24
  1. Is GNOME good for gaming? I've been liking its vibe but I've read that some people have issues and some don't. I'm currently using KDE. 1A. Do I have to reinstall Linux to get GNOME and it's programs?

  2. I've read that CachyOS is best for performance - can I get it's benefits without having to switch to an Arch-based distro?

I've read that Cachy is very beginner friendly but that because it's Arch based, breaking it is far easier - is there any easy way to setup safeguards for not breaking my laptop?

Should I go ahead and reinstall my OS? I'm not entirely new but I don't know if I'm fully ready to dip my toes into Arch.

Certain games cause screen flickering :(

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 01:03

Certain games (Halo MCC, Valheim, etc...) run fine performance-wise, but the screen flickers constantly, while others (Dark Souls, Factorio, AoE2, etc...). I’ve tried switching Proton versions and using GE Proton, but it doesn’t fix the issue. I think it’s related to Wayland + NVIDIA, but I’m not 100% sure.

Debian 13 stable

GTX 1060 6gb, 550.163.01 nvidia drivers

GNOME DE, Wayland session(dual monitor setup)

If anybody else has experienced something similar or has found a workaround, please help :D

Hogwart's Legacy is not generating an eu4ss.log file.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Februar 2026 - 00:16

I'm on Nobara 43 Gnome, and the game works, but it doesn't generate an eu4ss.log file. I need it to in order to run the Sonorus - AI Conversations mod. I've been talking with them on their Discord, but they don't know why this is happening. They don't appear to be Linux users, though they're somewhat knowledgeable about Linux. I've tried googling the issue, but can't find anything on this particular issue. I've been using ProtonUp-Qt with GE-Proton10-27. I wonder if I just need to use a different version of Proton or what.

A Native MO2 Alternative For Linux Coming Soon™

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Februar 2026 - 23:53

Hey everyone, some of you may know me from my ports of some windows tools to linux. I'm currently working on a replacement or alternative to running a form of "MO2" on linux.

I'm calling it Fluorine-Manager currently what I have working is:

A VFS using FUSE. A working overwrite system that MO2 uses. Profile specific saves and inis are also working. Conflict detection is also working with highlighting. Root builder is a native feature so if you test this out with a modlist that uses root builder it should automatically work.

What's planned is support for other games, other than just skyrim. NXM handling will also come, and easy way to access the prefix as well. And a plugin bridge for the mo2 python plugins.

What doesn't work/can't: As far as I know slint currently doesn't have a way to support dragging archives into the window for installing. Possibly other limitations in the future.

You can join the discord on the github for prerelease if you want to, or download the latest actions from the github tab. If anyone is interested in seeing this be worked on or anything let me know, as I have quite a few plans.

LSFG-VK & Surroundead Stutter (Steam Deck)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Februar 2026 - 23:38

This is such a niche issue but I was wondering if anybody else had experienced this,

Lossless scaling works flawlessly on deck for me except for 1 game, Surrounded. I’ve tried frame caps, all settings, Vsync options and workarounds but it’s still extremely choppy with coloured artefacts. Maybe something to do with the engine?

The only way I can get it smooth is if I set it to 29.9 fps cap (game version 0.7), but after spinning for moment it gets choppy again.

Surrondead seems like the perfect deck game but uses a bit of power so lossless would be goated here.

(Video is in slow motion)

PC/PS5] Looking for games similar to God of War (2018) and Assassin's Creed?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Februar 2026 - 23:37

Looking for a fellow Assassin in Pratt, KS (Jeremy) I'm trying to find a friend named Jeremy from Pratt, Kansas and a huge Assassin's Creed fan. He works as an IT Tech for a local Co-op and part-time as a Stocker at Walmart.

We lost contact recently due to a technical glitch on an app. If you’re a local gamer or work with him and see this, could you please let him know that PinkAngel is looking for him? He can find me here or on IG . Any help from the Brotherhood would be appreciated! 🙏

Issues with launching games in Steam after restarting PC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Februar 2026 - 22:29

I installed Armored Core VI, Elden Ring and Balatro in a secondary hard drive dedicated to games to test them since I'm a new linux user. I had to restart the PC, and when I launched them it opened a window to install them in the main drive, and a note that says 'this game is installed in a unit that is not mounted currently' but it shows up in the disk manager normally, in the file explorer and seems normal. To fix it, I had to turn off the PC, turn it on again and it seems to be working fine, the issue only apperas when I restart. I'm using Linux Mint

Problem with Steam and Window Focus

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Februar 2026 - 22:16

I'm on Linuxmint Cinnamon, and I have the Issue that I can't click the Pop-ups of Steam, y'know things like "Add to Favorites" or "Remove from this Collection", and I figured out that the problem was my configuration about Window Focus, I put it as "Focus Follow Mouse" but Flatpak Steam can't support it, so I need to put it like "Click to Focus".

I found the first one more comfortable, cause I also use the terminal for coding, and I really want to fix Steam, is there something I can do to fix it (besides of installing Deb Steam?).

Thanks!
