Games keep crashing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 20:32

Hi everyone:)
I got a new RX7800XT for christmas and installed it in my pc along with a fresh fedora kde install. Since then the games that i play (Assetto Corsa and ETS2) keep crashing my PC. I uninstalled steam from flatpak and install it via the normals repos but that didn't helped. I have 32gb of ddr4 ram which info center says runs at 2400MT/s , 1,2V and an i7 7600K. The psu is nearly new and has 750w. Should be enough. I didn't had these problems on my mint system, but there i also had my old gpu. Since the whole PC crashed there is no chance of getting any good logs

How does MSFS 2024 run?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 20:10

I play 2020 pretty nicely and I'm wondering about 2024, but the price right now is almost $90 so I wanna know if it runs well before I purchase.

What's your experience like?

Marvel Rivals is Banning Players on Mac

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 20:06

Hello r/linux_gaming reaching out to hopefully spread some information regarding Marvel Rivals banning Mac OS users. Especially since Linux has had issues similar to this in the past.

Currently a huge ban wave has affected the r/macgaming community and I am reaching out to spread/share the situation.

Players who use Crossover Preview to play the game are being affected with a 100 year ban. Even if the player never played a single online game (happened to myself).

You can preview how to emulate the game on Mac here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMR31cFbyj4

You can follow the thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/1hrsitf/marvel_rivals_banning_mac_os_users/

I hope just sharing this and spreading some awareness can help Marvel Rivals revert this automated ban. Especially with the severity of it. Over a 100 year ban for this.

Thank you.

Windows Mouse acceleration seems to be enabled in Proton/Wine

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 19:52

Not sure if any games ignore this, but I just downloaded titanfall 2, and something felt off. There is no app to access the mouse settings, but I checked the registry and mouse acceleration is in fact, enabled. Since disabling it in registry, the game feels much better. Either way, doesn't hurt to disable it if you are used to no accel in your games.

  1. Open up Protontricks/Winetricks
  2. open the registry editor
  3. go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse
  4. Set MouseSpeed, MouseThreshold1, and MouseThreshold2 to 0

ACC in VR on Ubuntu - Is it possible?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 19:46

Okay, so let me preface this by saying...yes I know what I am doing is stupid. The cries of 'just play on Windows ffs' but as I continue to lose my wick with Microsoft again and again, and as the looming end of support for Windows 10 draws ever closer, at this point I'm fully committed to never going back.

So - the problem is thus. I have forever foresworn Windows, my system runs on Ubuntu now. I would very much like to play Assetto Corsa Competizione(ACC) in VR. My path to get here has taken just short of a month now but I feel like I'm getting close.

Nominally ACC only runs on windows, but with some help from Proton I was able to get it running (albeit a bit framier than I'm used to, but I'll settle for just getting it working for now)

With some trial and error, all the drivers needed to run my sim rig are now working on Linux, and so that's working again.

After a bit of jiggery pokery I was able to get Steam VR working, and now I run into another roadblock. I feel like I'm *so* close to getting it working, because it renders a single frame (of me being weirdly tall leering over a poorly rendered garage, where all the textures have about 4 pixels between them. Really low LoD stuff) which means it's at least doing *something* but the game then hangs on that one frame for 120 seconds before crashing with a big long error message (that only appears sometimes, if I can get it to show up again I'll post a screenshot of it here)

It's not just an ACC thing, I've tried loading up Euro Truck too and the same thing seems to happen, except with that it's just a black screen, but that's just the first frame it renders when you boot it up in VR. So I'm pretty sure it's a problem with Steam VR, but what's causing it and how to fix it I have no idea, so that's why I'm coming to you guys for some help Would really appreciate any pointers you can give me

I'm running Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS

TL:DR - Assetto Corsa Competizione crashes when I try to load it up on SteamVR

I need help finding the correlation between my vmstat output and my random framedrops please

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 19:17

Fedora 41

16gb ram

intel i5-9400f

240gb WD green sata

Rx 6500xt

Wine: Wine-ge-proton 8-26

Using bottles to run Overwatch 2, Same issue occurs in Steam version.

Hey everyone, I'm getting fed up of random frame drops and border line system hangs. I don't have a second monitor to view it in real time either so I just used vmstat and then checked it afterwards. Sorry if this post is too bare bones but I will reply ASAP if any other info is needed.

https://pastebin.com/kk0zXdZy

From looking at it, my intuition says its a I/O issue, and I'm gonna play around and experiment with changing my Scheduler and tuning it. Thank you.

Audio crackling in all games running on proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 19:02

This is an example in Fallout: New Vegas, but it happens in all games that run on proton with steam. I'm on Arch Linux and my sound driver is pipewire. I installed faudio but it didn't work

LakkaOS or.... (Suggestions)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Januar 2025 - 18:59

Hey there, I have a really old netbook from 2007 that runs PeppermintOS atm, but I don't use it anymore.

To give this little dude a 3rd life, I wanna transform it into a retro gaming console (To play GB, GBC, GBA games, and maybe some NES/SNES ones). I was thinking about installing LakkaOS, but honestly, its because I don't know any other dedicated distro to do this. Any suggestions?
