How's the performance of 9070XT on Linux now?
I'm currently using Arch Linux KDE Plasma 6.4, running on MESA25.1 and kernel linux6.15.7.
Has MESA25.1 fully supported 9070XT already? How's the Ray-Tracing performance compare to Windows 11? Is FSR4 working good on Linux?

Help me choose a Linux distribution primarily for gaming, but also suitable for everyday use
Hello all,
I'm building a new PC. I've already decided on all the components, but I'm holding off on the build because my old system is still working fine, and there's no rush. The new setup will feature a 9800X3D paired with an AMD 9070XT.
Now, regarding distributions:
For context, I'm familiar with Linux Mint Cinnamon. It's been installed on my old laptop for several years, and I'm quite happy with it. I did some research, and since Linux Mint is an LTS release, I might encounter some issues with the new components, especially the 9070XT. However, it seems nothing too difficult to tinker my way out of. Although i'm no expert in any way.
In theory, I won't have a problem using Linux Mint on my new system, but I wanted to try some other options. I installed a few live distributions on a USB drive and really liked the KDE Plasma environment. I also found that some advice suggests to not install KDE plasma over Linux Mint, so I explored the following KDE Plasma-based distros:
- Fedora
- KDE Neon
- CachyOS
- OpenSUSE Tumbleweed
For some probably random reason, I ended up liking Fedora and OpenSUSE the most.
Here are my questions:
- If something breaks for whatever reason, which distribution will give me the most resources to easily fix the problem? Linux Mint has a large community and tons of information, but how do the others compare in that regard?
- Is there a significant difference in the Discover module? I like downloading things from the actual source, but having a "store" is really handy for easy installation.
- Wayland or X11? As far as I know, Cinnamon in Linux Mint uses X11, while KDE Plasma supports Wayland. Is there any noticeable difference in performance or compatibility for general use or gaming?
- Any notable differences for gaming? OpenSUSE is rolling and should stay up to date with drivers, but is that always the case?
I know there's never a definitive answer, and I'll probably be happy and functional with Linux Mint, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you

Upgraded fron 6900 XT to 9070 XT - no performance difference?
Hey there,
yesterday I upgraded my GPU from the 6900 XT to the 9070 XT and hoped to gain a few FPS.
Unfortunately my hope was misplaced.
My CPU is a Ryzen 5800X (not X3D), I have 32 GB RAM.
Running a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (WQHD)
I benchmarked 3 games before I switched the CPUs:
Game/Benchmark AMD RX 6900 XT FPS AMD RX 9070 XT FPS (mesa-latest) AMD RX 9070 XT FPS (mesa-git) Shadow of the Tomb Raider 137 139 145 Couner Strike 2 240 230 189 Dota 2 Timedemo 78 88 95 Dota 2 Idle local match 100 260 250Table formatting brought to you by ExcelToReddit
As you can see, the results are very conflicting.
I was baffled with the FPS increase in Dota 2, a game that I thought is heavily CPU bound, but marginal performance difference in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is the kind of game, I would have expected to profit from the GPU upgrade.
Now, I am running Nobara (6.15.5-200.nobara.fc42.x86_64) and I have not installed any new driver or so, since upgrading the GPU - do I need to do something?
The driver manager says I am on the latest stable MESA driver

Need help finding options for sober configuration.
I play Roblox often using Sober and would appreciate being able to change the rendering distance to max, but have the graphics level remaining at 0. I saw that this was something you could do using Bloxstrap, but that does not work for Linux. I'm looking for any safe solution to this issue.

Head Tracking Software
Been gaming on Linux for about 2 years now and the only thing that keeps me dual booting is DCS. Specifically, TRACKIR head tracking software
Are there any head tracking software that works with wine / proton? (Or Linux native / FOSS?) I've been actively testing and trying to config trackIR in wine but it's beyond broken.
Does anyone have a good solution for this?

Wayland screen tearing stopped working in Linux Kernel 6.15 and above (asynchronous page flips)
I have been keeping up with the status of being able to disable vsync and enable screen tearing in Wayland, as I usually play rhythm games such as osu!lazer where low latency is important. Starting from Linux kernel version 6.15, it seems to have stopped working, forcing me to stick with 6.14 LTS.
I've tried searching all over google but all I got were threads of people wanting to get rid of tearing, which is not what I wanted.
Distro: Arch Linux
Kernel: 6.15.7-2-cachyos
DE: KDE Plasma 6.4.3
EDIT: I seem to have solved it. You need to add KWIN_DRM_NO_AMS=1 to you /etc/environment, as per this post. This was needed before KDE Plasma 6.2 was released but I guess at some point something changed in the Kernel where this envvar was needed again.

Why GE Proton not showing in Lutris? I installed GE Proton 10.10 via Proton Plus.
Some trainers launch with Steam launch options, others don't.
Hi everyone, I'm new to gaming on Linux and recently got most of my stuff working on Arch running KDE. I've spent the last 2 or so days trying to get trainers running and felt like I had hit a wall until I came across a comment by u/WarlordTeias saying the easiest way to get my fling trainers working with my games was to set PROTON_REMOTE_DEBUG_CMD="/path/to/your/trainer.exe" %command% as my launch option. It worked great for Nine Sols, but repeating the same steps for other games like Ghost of Tsushima and Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 did not launch anything in tandem with the game. Does anyone maybe have more tips? All suggestions are welcome, thank you.

Sober with a autoclicker breaks chat
So like, I was playing roblox and used a autoclicker (xclicker to be exact) and it ends up breaking chat to where I cannot type (Yes I turned it off) and it forces me to close and restart sober. Why? Is it roblox, is it sober, is it me? I dont really need a fix, just wondering if someone knows what the actual cause is?

Does anyone here play survivors-like roguelites on Linux? We’ve got a native demo for you!
Hey Linux gaming folks !
We’re the team behind NineLives, an survivors-like game currently in development.
From the very beginning, we’ve been working hard to support multiple PC platforms including macOS, Linux, and Steam Deck. While layers like Proton have made cross-platform support easier, our dev team has been focusing on native builds for better performance and stability.
We just released our first demo, and we’re excited to say that it includes a Linux version too!
So we wanted to drop by and share it here with the Linux gaming community.
Steam Demo Link : https://store.steampowered.com/app/3758770/Ember_and_Blade_Demo/
We’d love for you to give it a try—and of course, any feedback is super welcome!
And if you enjoy it, adding us to your wishlist would mean the world to us.
Thank you!

Recommendations on specs alongside new GPU
Hello. I have only built one pc in my life, which was when I graduated high school (about 9 years ago) and I ran that sucker basically into the ground. I recently bricked the motherboard on it by accidentally hitting the off switch on my power strip during a Windows update, and I took that as a sign from a higher power to get off the Windows 11 bus while I still could.
The natural first step was to buy a Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT. I figured best GPU within my budget and then build around it. Im aware that with it being a newer GPU I basically will need to manually configure the drivers, Mesa 25 junk and have a specific kernel requirement (im considering Linux Mint Cinnamon, so LM22, or some distro that uses KDE Plasma).
I am semi-ambivalent towards the rest of the machine, and was more or less looking for general recommendations and behavioral experiences on working with this specific card on Linux. Only real desire is to play Dota 2 at like, high graphics lol. I dont care about AI workloads and I dont need major production programs outside of like, the suite covered by LibreOffice, Davinci Resolve and OBS.

Can any of the Meta VR headsets work on Linux Mint?
I have my Rift S (Not a Meta headset but still kinda counts), so I was wondering if it's possible to use it in Linux. Will it work, or am I stuck to using only Windows for VR? I'll just install Linux Mint on a separate SSD anyway so I can dualboot.

Can i improve more my old ahh laptop? 2009, using t6600
Its my moms barely used laptop, only for radio, i wanted to optimize it for fun, I duel booted mint fxce and its way better than what it was on before, win 10, idk if i can expect more from it, testing games, i didnt even think it would run, but it did, example cs 1.6 in servers 20-40 fps depedns how many alive, minecraft with many optimzixations barely 25, well, at least youtube works way better on mint now, im using Midori browser, biggest problem perhaps not that its fps but dips and jumpy fps
so what else can i try to improve? i checked its running mesa 24 i think, im not to familiar with all these, theres wine and proton? could they improve it if i even can switch or are they just for diffrent games or smth?

PS4 controller doesn't works anymore on steam games (arch linux)
I used to play games such Cuphead with my PS4 controller on my computer (steam on arch linux), and it worked as well. But now after formatting it simply doesn't works on games anymore (only in menu). I already configured on settings but I don't have response yet.
I also tried "Enable" option on PlayStation Controller Support.I used to play games such Cuphead with my PS4 controller on my computer (steam on arch linux), and it worked as well.
