Can't get HTC Vive Cosmos Elite working on Pop_OS 22.04
The closest I can get to the headset working is SteamVR saying "Missing Driver" (214)
In the terminal it says
steam[9538]: Lighthouse IMU HID device error steam[9538]: Lighthouse Optical HID device error steam[9538]: Lighthouse VrController HID device error steam[9538]: Lighthouse IMU HID device error steam[9538]: Lighthouse IMU HID device errorI installed steam-devices through the pop shop, this was after restarting steam through the terminal.
I wanted to do some exercise, which is what prompted me to try to get this set up, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, because everything just says "oh just insteall Steam VR" or "install SteamVR and steam-devices".

Games freezing inexplicably
Recently got a new laptop and installed linux mint cinnamon, games keep freezing after running at high performance I've ensured that my graphics are being used, there's no way my graphics card is being overwhelmed, and there's no chance I'm running out of ram, audio continues to play after the freeze and alt tabbing usually fixes it the first few times until it doesn't and I have to force a shutdown

Can't seem to make DS3 work on Linux
Dark Souls III. Im on arch using sway as a wm and even using steamplay and proton(8 and experimental, both did not work, only 8 also gave me glitches with my cursor), i get artifacts while moving the camera and a microstutter on frames. If anyone has had a similar problem it would be great if they could share. My GPU is an intel btw.

Pirates: Rogue’s Fortune, my childhood dream is coming true!
We all have moments in life when we can feel that an event, a happy one in this case, is going to stay with us forever. For me, it was when I was 12, back in 1993, on a winter Saturday, when my parents gifted me my first computer, an Olivetti 486. I’ll never forget it. A real surprise, along with an incredible game, Monkey Island. Pirates had entered my life. Then came Monkey Island 2, Sid Meier’s Pirates!, and much later Black Flag and Sea of Thieves.
I started tinkering, played around with Klik & Play from magazine cover disks, discovered Paintbrush (yes, it did the job back then), and I knew that one day I would make my own game too. A pirate game, maybe. I just had to be patient. And today, in 2026, it’s real.
Pirates: Rogue’s Fortune launches in Early Access on March 4, 2026, and honestly, it really feels like I’ve unlocked an achievement in real life.
If you’d like, you can try the demo on Linux and Steam Deck, and maybe add it to your wishlist:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2423280/Pirates_Rogues_Fortune/
Early feedback has been really encouraging, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier after all these years of dreaming about this moment.
Thank you all for your support!
PS: The visuals are photos I took using a Queen Anne’s Revenge model and a 3D print of the game’s character.

python and heroic games launcher strike arch btw. games dont launch.
If when you try to launch a game via heroic launcher and it looks like its launching for a while, but stops, this might be for you.
so i tried to launch car soccer to to play some ranked rocket league but it just didnt launch.
my first workaround to this was use pure wine, for some reason it worked lol. at this point i was confused if this is a ge-proton issue but i checked the logs and boom some python bugs.
but i didnt give up yet.
i downgraded python back to 3.14.2-2 by doing the following:
- first i checked if i have a cached package of python
ls /var/cache/pacman/pkg/python-3.14*.pkg.tar.zst
it outputted:
/var/cache/pacman/pkg/python-3.14.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst /var/cache/pacman/pkg/python-3.14.3-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
that's actually the easiest it can get now. if you have a previous package cached youre lucky because from there its just an easy fix
- time for some downgrading
sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/python-3.14.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
boom
- confirmation
python --version
# should show Python 3.14.2
so in summary the fix is just to downgrade python.

How to remotely use my Linux gaming PC?
Hey folks,
I need use some advice for a remote gaming setup under Linux.
Soon I’ll be spending 1–2 evenings per week away from home for a longer period.
I’d love to play a bit during that time.
Taking my gaming PC with me is not an option, but I have a laptop available, but it’s just too weak for gaming.
Both my desktop and my laptop run Ubuntu 24.04 (GNOME / Wayland).
The gaming PC is on fast Wi‑Fi (no wired LAN), and I have about 40 Mbit/s upload from my home DSL.
The place I’ll stay has fast Wi‑Fi too. A VPN connection (OpenVPN) between both locations is already set up.
At home, I’ve tried Moonlight/Sunshine, and it works great.
But for remote use, I have a couple of issues I haven’t solved yet:
- How can I power on my PC remotely?
I can’t just press the power button, and my Wi‑Fi smart plug doesn’t really help, my BIOS only offers “Return to previous state,” not “Power on when AC is restored.” That would mean I’d have to always cut power instead of shutting down properly, which seems bad.
- How do I log in remotely? Sunshine only launches after user login. Automatic login doesn’t sound like a great idea for several reasons.
it doesn’t have to be Moonlight/Sunshine. I’m open to alternatives. If something more compatible with these limitations exists, I’m fine playing strategy games instead of FPS titles. :)
Any suggestions or workflows that worked for you?

Mint or Pop? Daily Driver
I have a fairly high end machine and I'm ready to move to Linux. My one and only concern so far is the known DX12 issues with nVidia GPU's causing an approx 20% FPS drop on many titles.
Current Rig:
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk
MSI Radeon 5080 RTX
64GB DDR5-6000 RAM
This will be my new daily driver. I have an Ubuntu server, a TrueNAS NAS, and use RHEL at work so I'm somewhat Linux savvy, but by no means a power user. That's something I hope to work on by moving to Linux full time. I know many recommend Pop for nVidia users as the drivers are baked in and it seems to be the most "gamer friendly" (aside from Bazzite). However I will still need this machine for productivity purposes like work processing and spreadsheets.
I also like the look of KDE Plasma and I don't really care how close the GUI is to a "Windows" experience as I'm using Stardocks Start12, Window Blinds, and a few other apps to control my GUI anyway. I used LiteStep of a long time back in the Windows XP days and felt comfortable with that as well as Gnome on Ubuntu.
Should I just run Mint? Straight up Ubuntu? Or take the plunge and rock PopOS? Any input from those who've used them (particularly for gaming) would be greatly appreciated.

Writers here would you build your own game if the technical barrier disappeared?
I’m primarily a writer, not a developer. I have a full sci-fi universe mapped out with factions, politics, and character arcs that would honestly work better as a game than as a novel. The issue is technical execution.
Every time I look at traditional game development, it feels like I’d need to spend years learning tools before I could even prototype my story world interactively. That’s discouraging. I tried describing my world inside Tessala co just to see what would happen. It generated a playable environment based on my description. It wasn’t perfect, but walking through a rough version of my own universe felt surreal.
Now I’m wondering whether AI could become the bridge between writers and interactive media. Or is that wishful thinking?
If you’re a writer, would you experiment with AI-generated prototypes? Or would you still rather collaborate with a traditional developer?

Important for those who use wemod/wand in Linux
Wemod/Wand will now limit you to 2hrs of cheats during gameplay every 24hrs I know a few people used this cheating tool on steam deck etc but I felt the LG community had a right to know that image is from there discord.

GTX 1080 Compatibility Farming Simulator 22
I've just installed a 1080 and am getting some weird issues and crashes in Farming Simulator 22 -- typically, black artifacts followed by a crash.
I have the latest NVIDIA drivers and have been using Claude to try and get to the root of the issue.
Have any fellow farmers had the same experience and managed to fix?
Here's what I'm working with:
- GPU: GTX 1080 (Pascal), driver 580
- OS: Debian 12, kernel 6.1.0-43
- Error: Xid 13, Class 0000c197, Offset 00002388
- Tried: GE-Proton7-55, GE-Proton9-27, multiple VKD3D settings

How are native games on steam ?
I’m asking because I once bought the never winter nights Linux native from GOG and couldn’t play it due to not having the 32bit libs I know steam installs 32bit libs upon installation so I’m wondering if anyone has faced compatibility issues with native steam games.
