Installing & Running Neverwinter Nights in Ubuntu 24.04
Hello.
First of all, I'm aware that there are modern clients that run in Linux.
Primarily, I would like to get to the point of working on an Open Source Engine for NWN, concisely because it's important for Legalities & Peoples' Rights.
*Thinks*
That's sort of concise, though sufficient in those regards, amidst people that understand some things.
I found old NWN Diamond install instructions, & I still have my Diamond disc: a google search should show the results.
Well, I'm missing a few library files.
When running NWN in linux, you simply run ./nwn, & that particular script simply refers to the /miles folder as a source for libraries needed for running NWN in Linux.
Well, I found - of somebody elses' instruction page - a command to figure out what you might be missing still for your install:
readelf -d ./nwmain | grep 'NEEDED'
& the result was:
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libm.so.6]
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libpthread.so.0]
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libGL.so.1]
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libGLU.so.1]
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libmss.so.6]
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libSDL-1.2.so.0]
0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libc.so.6]
If those Shared library files were within the /miles folder, I'm thinking that the game would run.
😄
*Gestures*
Some people are so *pauses* 'humorous'?
Hm.

Need help manage how to play Half Life Alyx on Catchy OS on a Quest 2
Honestly, i don't know what to do anymore, i played the Claire Campaing on RE 2 Remake via Framework, but when i tried play half life alyx is a nightmare, i'm using ALVR and the game keeps crashing, freezes on loading screen, lag all the time at the point the characters mouth movement didn't syncronize with the audio.
I thought it was some issue with my PC, but when i tried Arizona Sunshine, the other Steam VR game i have, it runs ok, i tried to change every goddamn setting on ALVR, lowered the resolution, the framerate, tested all three codecs, tried adaptive bitrate, nothing seems work.
My setup is a, Ryzen 7 5700G with a RX 9060 XT 16GB and 16 GB of RAM,m the game is running on a WD 2TB SSD

Help adding new drive
I did this step in KDE PARTITION MANAGER.
Then I also I did this step: UUID=(paste your UUID here) /mnt/SSD2 ext4 defaults,noatime 0 2
Then Gemini and ChatGPT tell me I need to enter SUDO CHOWN $USER:$USER /MNT/SSD2.
I haven’t entered this last code before and everything worked well as I remember. Did you do it? Do I need that CHOWN?

VRR Random crashes
Having OS on SATA SSD affect games on NVME?
Today you guys said it was okay to install my os on SATA ssd and have nvme for gaming library. Sounds great because in regular OS performance I’ve seen identical behavior on nvme and SATA ssd. My question now is can having os on SATA ssd anyhow affect games that I run on nvme? Like any real way?

I don't understand how.
I swapped to fedora recently and everything for the most part went smoothly.
Quick tip if you have multiple drives not all games will run unless installed on a drive formatted for ext4, like monster hunter wilds. The game I'm making this post about.
Since for whatever reason it looks and runs far better than when I used windows. My jaw was on the floor from just the shader load time at the start with how fast it went. I legit expected things to be mostly the same if not slightly worse. But I didn't expect such a huge improvement with things I heard about this game.

Thinking of Shifting to Linux - Trasparency issues.
With each and every day that passes I hate Windows more and more.
I tried Bazzite on a dual boot and ran into 1 major issue that would stop me from having it as my daily OS and a minor one.
TL;DR: I tried switching from Windows to Bazzite, but two issues stopped me: some games with transparency (like idle overlays) don’t work properly, and the international English keyboard layout feels off compared to Windows, with weird accent input and delay.
1 - Game transparency
I play a FAIR amount of games and all varied, some of which include idlers. These, more often than not use transparency (think bongo cat, tap tap loot.... stuff like that).
From what I saw there was no real way to fix this issue. Even then it would be a black background and for bongo cat keys would only register when focused in.
I know that you could say well what do you value more, privacy or gaming. to which fair but I like having the options.
Is there something actively being worked on to further aid this issue in the future or is it doomed to constantly have transparency issues?
2 - INTL keyboard issues.
no matter what version of INTL Eng keyboard layout I chose, it still didn't match what was on windows. it was very much a pain in the ass. the way you put accents on letters didn't match and it even had a weird delay to it. I think this is more down to my own issues but after debugging for 20 minutes, I didn't look further.

Having an odd issue.
Most games run fine on my linux mint but for some reason Lego Star wars CC and clone wars(Steam ver) as well as Lotor BFME (Lutris) run at 2 fps a second. And it's only these 3 games doing this. They worked when I had windows. I could just be stupid and missed a setting or something.

Went from 30fps to 50fps by switching to Bazzite. Worth every bit of effort.
Free Native Linux games on bad specs
Hi all, I know this question has been asked so many times that people are tired trying to help but what are some good native games that are free, lightweight and run on bad specs.

Please help with comparing KDE HDR vs RTX/Auto HDR so I can abandon Windows
(background: I run multiple Linux servers as well as VM's, my gaming pc is my only Windows device, so I have a little experience)
Hi 😄
The only reason I use Windows currently is because of Nvidia RTX HDR, I tried to install Bazzite to compare the KDE HDR inverse tonemapping to the Windows RTX HDR, but I am incredibly bad at comparisons like this, could anybody make a comparison or something like that? maybe something like this video

Dragon Quest X: Crashes on all cutsenes Proton Help we (community) have tried several options
Hello all, We in the DQX Online community have this issue with this niche Japan only game. I am reaching out because we really need someone who can read the error logs and is smarter than us at figuring this out.
The issue arose after they released their 7.5 update to the game back in Aug 2025. We have tried several attempts at solutions to fix the issue without any luck...
Here is the history: Prior to 7.5 the game would crash when it invoked pre-rendered cutscenes until we discovered that you can specifically select Proton-GE 9-5 and it would work just fine. Any other version (either older versions or newer ones as they were released) causes it to crash.
After 7.5, the game requires PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 added to the launch options for the game to launch at all past the log in screen otherwise it crashes. This option was not available in 9-5
I think it has something to do with the game using windows media player 9 in it's cutscene decoding but I am not 100% sure
Once I post this, I will add my logs for using GE 10-27 with WOW64 enabled and crashing I also am adding my log for 9-6 without that flag but still crashing when launching the game
I am mainly launching this game on the steam deck but I also use Bazzite (using an AMD 9060XT) on my PC. It crashed when I had an NVIDIA 2070 as well
Fixes attempted: - Installing VLC and klite mega Pack (seperate tests) into the the Proton prefix using winetricks - Manually transferring the WMP 9 and Quartz DLLS from the 9-5 prefix to the 10-27 version - I disabled "Winegstreamer.dll" with winecfg. Instead of instantly crashing, it just froze. I think there is an issue with winegstreamer and rendering the window for the cutscene maybe - with the GE 9.5 I attempted to use WINEARCH=win32 - I have attempted all the GE 10.X versions and even the Proton 11 beta through steam - I have attempted additional Launch Options commands including forcing vulcan and forcing some audio/video options. I do not know all the options so I may have missed one
Other interesting information: - Windows, works fine and pre-rendered cutscenes do not open a seperate window - Linux, it opens a seperate window that is all black AND then crashes
Anyone else who has a desire to test it, I admit it is not an easy thing to install.
I requires you to create a Square Enix JP account and installing the game using this script
bash -c "$(curl https://gist.githubusercontent.com/jmctune/6322356f5bdb7bb00ca39cc0fa84546f/raw/dqxclarity_steam_deck_install.sh)"
https://dqxabbey.com/pages/community.html
The game has a generaous trail that lets you play for free up to midway through the first 3 expansions
Thank you all very much for even looking at this and any help you can provide.
Edit: The log was too large for pastebin and Github Gist kept crashing. Best I could do is my google Drive https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hsNdqcLTjrjqiM3_dBjNHfyWhBT8FqOu?usp=sharing
