Steamos alternative for working gamer
Im looking for something to replace ubuntu 24.04 Something that is geared to gaming on steam but that maybe will also install all my software like docker, vscode, virtualbox etc for work related stuff.
Also I've thoroughly bricked something cos my os runs games horribly. I need to just reinstall so im considering something other than ubuntu now.
I like ubuntu because its simple to install deb packages and the terminal is mostly easy to use. Have bricked it a few times learning though.
Im flexible on desktop environments but I do like gnome.
Make suggestions please. Ill try them on my laptop before commiting to my main desktop though.

How to get and run Total Overdose on Pop! OS?
I'd love to play the classic Total Overdose on my Pop! OS system, but I see it's not on Steam. What's the best way to get a copy of it these days? I'm not sure if it's still sold somewhere or if it's considered abandonware/freeware now. Also, once I have it, what's the easiest way to run it? Should I just add it to Steam and use Proton, or is Lutris the better option for a game like this?

Audio problem in games under Wine and Proton.
hi, i have a small problem related to the audio, and it is that when i play things under proton from steam and heroic games launcher, i have clicks in the audio and honestly i don't know how to solve this detail :( i would really appreciate the help since i am a user who plays a lot, and i repeat and clarify that this click in the audio only happens with proton and wine... by the way, i have pipewire as an audio service.
My distro is Void Linux.

Opening modded Minecraft world hard crashes PC
Hey everyone, so I have a modded minecraft world that I have with friends that we have been playing for a while now. Me and another friend both run Arch based OS's (I use vanilla Arch and she uses Garuda linux) and all of a sudden after a recent system update neither of us can open any worlds in modded minecraft. After attempting to open the world it hard crashes our PC and freezes completely after saying "Reading world data" for a few seconds. Interestingly enough when testing various things I noticed that this does not happen on Vanilla minecraft ONLY on modded even when using the same launcher. Please let me know what I could do to better look into this or if someone had this same problem and found a solution.
My PC specs incase its relevant are:
AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
AMD Radeon 9070 xt 16gb
32gb Ram
Thanks in advanced for the help!

Steam sidebar logo
I added a non-steam game to steam but when I try adding an image for the logo on the sidebar it doesn't work. I was able to add the main logo and background, it's just the sidebar giving me trouble. I've made sure the image was a .png like it says it has to be, but no dice

First gaming pc build ever distro?
I am going to build a pc with Ryzen 7500f and am still debating between intel b580 and rx7600 for around the same price where I live. I am tired of Windows 11 giving me anxiety about bricking my pc with each update than just chill and game. I am also debating on what distros to use. I want something simple, preferably pre-configured and ready for me to just download my games on steam and play. Thanks in advance!

Game title in Bottles
Let me say first of all. I'm am LOVING Linux for gaming. and Bottles makes install and running of games so simple, in some cases, even simpler than in windows.
But one odd thing has popped up, Some games install and run just fine, but in the bottles list of installed programs, they don't use the default name of the game. I assume its because the launcher uses its own custom name , a lot of older software had that issue. And i cant seen to find any way to change that name in the list.
For example, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (An old school Resources management title I am addicted to) Installs and run just fine, no issues at all, but in bottles, its listed as facedit. Star Wars - Galactic Battlegrounds shows up as player. And I cant seem to find any menu or option to change these names in that list, to find the games easier.
Does anyone have any idea how to change this in bottles? or should I just try to memorize the games launch names?

My games are freezing and i dont know what to do
I installed Linux on my notebook about a month ago and everything was going fine, i was playing a lot of visual novels and it was all ok. Some days ago i decided to go back to fighting games, Blazblue CF, Guilty Gear Strive and Street Figther 6. All these games worked perfectly on windows. The games worked just fine for the first hours of gameplay, GGS was lagging a bit but ok, BBCF was just fine but SF6 was freezing and crashing just seconds after i run the game, first it was just SF6, now BBCF is freezing too, i tried to update everything, change the Proton version, enable and disable feral gamemode and after some minutes of gameplay my BBCF just freeze and i have to close the game. When my SF6 freeze i cant close it through steam, i have to reboot my notebook. Another detail is that my VLC media player and MPV media player sometimes freeze too, My desktop rarely freezes, and when it does it goes away quickly. I did some research on the internet and saw that it could be RAM, I ran fastfetch in the terminal and saw that my notebook was using practically 50% of my RAM just to exist, I don't know what to do now. Can anyone help me?
My specs: Ubuntu 25.04
Proton-cachyos-10.0-20250919-sir-x86_64_v2 (Tried Proton experimental too)
Feral gamemode = on (Tried with gamemode off too)
16gb ram (the system only shows 14.85 on fastfetch)
12th gen intel core i5-12450H 4.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050

Radv performs worse than NVIDIA in KOTOR 1
I recently had the "pleasure" to switch between GPUs in my first Knights of the Old Republic 1 playthrough (the GOG version 1.03 on the Heroic Games Launcher flatpak). Only the GPU was changed between sessions.
On mesa/radv 25.2 (tested on a 6900XT and a 9070XT) the game heavily stutters in a quite a few areas, for example in the large boulevard of the upper city of Taris (first planet), it struggles to 35 ~ 45 FPS.
On NVIDIA 580.82 (tested on a GTX 1080) the stutters completely disappeared and remained buttery smooth, like a game from 2003 with modern hardware should be like...
So the 9070XT actually performs worse there than the 1080, which should not be the case at all. In all cases I had to play with zink, else there would be visual bugs in the game.
Distro: Arch Linux
Kernel: 6.16
DE: KDE Plasma (Wayland)
Heroic version: v2.18.1 (flatpak)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Proton: GE-Proton10-17 (with umu enabled and no ntsync)
Used zink (otherwise there are visual bugs)
I used the KOTOR widescreen patches for my 1440p monitor, the Ultimate Character Overhaul (upscaled textures) and the KOTOR Community Patch. (Link)
Does anyone else experience those lags with radv in that game?

Trouble with Lutris and Rayman Origins from GOG
I really want to play Rayman Origins. I have tried using Lutris and installing to Lutris through GOG on Lutris. It has not worked though. I though that it might be an issue with vulkan since, when I configured the game (having thought it installed), I got a warning that vulkan was not installed. I therefore installed it and verified the installation using vkcube. Still, the installation does not work. I have put the working directory and executable as appropriate, yet still nothing works. Here is my error message when trying to reinstall it.

Is it possible to use ReShade on flatpaks/appimages on Linux/steam deck specifically
I’m familiar with the letmereshade plugin on steam deck but unfortunately that only works with .exes and Heroic. I want to know if there’s any other way for me to use Reshade with flatpaks/appimages because that’s what a majority of emulators are.
The main appeal for me is the use of reshade on emulators so if there’s any method to get that working please let me know. It’d mean a ton. Thanks!!

I’m so happy right now
I got a optiplex 3040 for free and now I can run games on Linux mint. The integrated graphics can run Vulcan shaders so games actually launch.

What's the easiest way to mod Deus Ex 1 on Linux?
I'll be reading your replies, any suggestions are welcome.
I use Mint btw.

I have some questions
Hi! I daily drive a thinkpad t580 for school, gaming and other stuff (basically everything). As win10 support ends very soon and me not wanting to go back to win11 because all the bloat, and them wanting to put in popup ads, I was searching for a linux os that I can have all my apps and games. While I was searching multiple sites said "Bazzide os". It does seem really good on paper, but sholud I switch?
Questions: 1) I only see it in videos as ps3 type interface, any way to change it to desktop type?
2) how will I install all my apps as brave, google, whatsapp, telegram, signal, etc?
3) will I be able to install tlauncher? (Please no hate, I am not ready to spend 300nok on a game) or any other games that are by themselves and without launchers like steam or epic.
Any help will be appreciated! And thank you in advance!

Can't run games with Proton
Okay so, I decided to install Linux Mint on my old laptop, I'm kind of new to all of this, but basically, when I tried running windows games on steam, none of them worked correctly, except for the ones that actually have a native Linux port. I tried changing the Proton versions and all on The properties menu but none of them seem to work, and if I try some of the older versions the games won't even launch. And these games ran almost perfectly on this laptop when I used Windows. now when I try running them on Linux, they Just have a really poor performance, They're extremely slow and buggy and I can barely get past the main menu screens. And they all have the same issue, regardless If they're meant for low-end machines or not. Does Proton only work perfectly with GPUs that can support Vulkan? (My laptop uses an integrated GPU, obviously.) is there a fix to it? Am I doing something wrong?
Here are the games I've tested until now:
LEGO Batman The Videogame
Sonic 4 Episode 2
South Park The Stick of Truth
Cars The Video Game
Hell Yeah! Wrath of The Dead Rabbit
Fallout 3
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
My system specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
— 4 physical cores / 8 threads (Hyper-Threading)
— Base clock: 2.20 GHz
— Turbo Boost: up to 3.10 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 6.00 GB
