I really wanna tear away from windows

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 06:42

Heya, I use windows currently and am looking to swap to a Linux operating system, but I still want to be able to play games, what operating system would be best to be able to play as many games as possible, and can you play basically any game on Linux and it just runs weird? Or can you only play certain games on Linux operating systems, the platforms I use mainly are steam and epic games, aswell as Xbox but I can use cloud for that so it’s less important

Edit: Anotner worry is the returnability, I don’t want to do any permanent damage to anything, personally I think ittl just reset when you change the OS and while the drives But my parents are more sceptical, could someone tell me if it can do any irreversible damage to my computer?

Certain graphical issue with Space Marine 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 03:45

When I play W40K Space Marine 2, it boots up just fine. However, in the main menu and even while playing, it shows me a few issues. Depending on the settings like TAA or FSR.

This happens when set it to FSR. It does not matter if I set it to Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance. It happens not only in the main menu but also in the game.

This happens when I set it to TAA. You can see that it turns into pixels.

Finally, this happens both TAA and FSR. That shadow on the helmet wasn't supposed to be there.

This is what it looks like when there is no bugs showing in the game.

Is there a way to fix this graphical issue?

I am using EndeavourOS, KDE Wayland 6.2.3, Linux 6.11.9.arch1-1. My graphics card is a AMD Radeon 6700 XT (MSI). CPU is AMD Ryzen 9 5900X

Game which worked smoothly don't work after switching to ubuntu. I know I did something wrong here and what distrio is best for me?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 01:36

I have an old PC with 4GB RAM, Intel HD graphics, no dedicated graphics card, and it's 5 years old.

I used to play games like Sleeping Dogs and Far Cry 4 on it without issues. But after switching to Ubuntu, the PC became much faster overall—except for gaming.

Now, even older games that ran smoothly before are so laggy they’re unplayable.

I feel like I messed up something in the setup for gaming.

Since I only use this PC for gaming, can you suggest a lightweight Linux distro that's optimized for low-end PCs? It should be great for gaming and performance on such hardware.

For now, I’m using Wine and Lutris to run games.

Edit: I don't have a integrated graphics card. I want to play those old games like Far cry 4, sleeping dogs, etc again in it.

Thanks!

Problems with lack of video memory in games on linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 01:16

I have an NVidia Geforce MX130 card with 2GB of dedicated memory. I'm having problems with some games closing when the dedicated memory is completely full, something that doesn't happen in Windows because it uses shared memory.

https://preview.redd.it/jsqkbxk2hq3e1.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=d78e8f23b17a4ee471638fd74c55add8ea965f03

I would like to know how to enable shared memory in Linux to solve these problems.

How do I change platform icons on Lutris?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 00:50

I'm using XFCE4 with a Nord Theme, and the platforms icons for Steam, etc, look too minimalistic for me.

Is there any way of changing them to look more similar to these?

(I saw a guy on GitHub that said that DE don't have anything to do with those icons, as there was an .html file for that, but idk how to modify it)

Is there a high chance that steam os 3 will be available to download for pc's?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 00:41

I heard It is available for another hand held pc besides steam deck, so that got my hopes a little higher. I have always struggled with regular Linux like ubuntu or Linux mint. And steam os, I pretty much treat it like windows.

A Discord Server for low end PC Linux Gamers :)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 00:12

I’m excited to announce the creation of the Linux Potato Gaming Discord server! It’s a space for Linux users with low end PCs or those who enjoy playing older games (like me, haha).

I created this server for a few reasons. First, there isn’t a Discord community that focuses on these needs, one that recommends games for low end PCs, helps people connect, and even find others to play those games with. Plus, you’ll have the chance to help us expand and improve our list of recommended games!

On top of that, this server will also serve as a support hub for Proton-Sarek and DXVK-Sarek(WIP), my projects aimed at improving Proton and DXVK support for older PCs.

Join us to play great and old games, and make your low end PC gaming experience better!

Can't move the rocket arm in mgsv

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 29. November 2024 - 00:06

As the title says, when I try to move the rocket arm in mgsv it doesn't do anything, but everything else works in the game, the funny part is that it works perfectly on my steamdeck

Game identifies HDR screen, but still renders SDR

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. November 2024 - 23:17

I'm trying to get HDR working with cyberpunk on KDE. I've managed to enable it in the game settings + plasma settings, but kwin picks up the game window as SDR.

What works:
- I can enable hdr in plasma settings, and it outputs a proper hdr signal. I can confirm this with playing an HDR video through mpv.
- I can enable HDR in cyberpunk's settings. The picture changes, it's either washed out or overexposed, but I think the game internally renders a valid hdr image.

What doesn't work: the output of the game is then converted back to sdr. I can confirm this by setting the hdr brightness to different values in plasma settings. This setting only affects sdr content. (when playing videos with mpv, the sdr brightness setting has no effect on it). The brightness of the game changes drastically depending on the setting.

What am I missing here? Why is it converted back to sdr?

specs:
archlinux (latest linux-zen / Linux 6.11.8-1-cachyos-bore-lto)
kde plasma 6.2
radeon 6700s using amdgpu drivers

Anyone here play Alan Wake 2 on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. November 2024 - 22:48

I've been trying to play Alan Wake 2, but am getting very unstable frame times and stutters. I also get wierd freezes sometimes after closing the main menu. I tried it on windows and it was fine (besides having to use windows 🤮). Installed through Heroic launcher. Anyone here encounter similar issues? Hoping to find a solution so I don't have to log in to windows to play it. My setup: OpenSUSE Tumbleweed (Gnome + Wayland) Ryzen 5900x RTX 3070 (550 driver) Installed on Gen 4 NVME Proton experimental and GE 9-20

Helldivers 2 on Proton 9.0-3 - black screen issue? (temp fix)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. November 2024 - 21:58

Hi, is anyone experience the same issue as described below.

OS: Debian 12 (bookworm) + Steam (flatpak)
Game launched through steam interface / Proton

Basically this dialogue box pops up (see comments) - this only lasts for a few seconds, and if I don't close it within the limited time, HD2 ends up as a blank screen with Proton 'not responding'.

Fix: Closing this dialogue box during the few seconds it pops up allows the game to run normally without any issues?

Thanks.

Secondary drive needs to be remounted every time I boot up Bazzite.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. November 2024 - 20:14

I have a number of games and files loaded on this drive already (nearly half the drive) and it requires me to remount the drive with password. Is there an easy way of having this drive remain permanently mounted to my PC each time I boot without needing to reformat or mess with the existing shortcuts?

OS: Bazzite Desktop, with NVIDIA Wayland.

How to make proton show logs in terminal?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. November 2024 - 19:32

Hi, I'm trying to launch a game with proton using the following command

STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/home/x/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/429530/" STEAM_COMPAT_CLIENT_INSTALL_PATH="/home/x/.local/share/Steam/" "/home/x/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 7.0/proton" run "/home/x/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/429530/pfx/drive_c/Falcon BMS 4.37/Launcher/FalconBMS_Alternative_Launcher.exe"

When I run this, it just shows this output and nothing launches.

fsync: up and running. wine: Using setpriority to control niceness in the [-19,19] range

How do I make it show me what actually went wrong?

Has anyone bypassed Kernel level anticheat??

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 28. November 2024 - 18:55

The fact that banning games from certain platforms should be illegal... Has anyone managed to bypass this? Especially on Apex Legends, it's the first time I game I care about has been affected by this...

Is there any way to bypass this so I don't have to install windows?
