Crashing in some UE5 games on CachyOS w/ RTX 5080 (DX12 seems to be a culprit)
EDIT: Thanks to u/hairymoot as this set of launch options they've provided works
VKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_EXT_mesh_shader,VK_NV_raw_access_chains %command%
ORIGINAL POST:
I'm currently running an RTX 5080 on the latest stable release of CachyOS with the 595.71.05 drivers and have observed a couple of UE5 games that seem to be crashing
The two I've seen this with so far are:
- Nuclear Nightmare
- '83
This is the crash I get:
I've tried both experimental, cachy, GE etc and that doesn't seem to get around this problem. In either instance, it appears downgrading to proton 8.0-5 or proton 7.0-6 does launch the games, but then you can't connect to other servers
What I've been able to glean off ProtonDB is this is down to recent nvidia drivers not playing nicely with dx12 (sounds like they never did to begin with)
Setting launch options to '-dx11' does allow me to launch Nuclear Nightmare, but '83 is a game that supports neither dx11 or vulkan
Before people laugh me out the door, I was originally gaming with an RX 9060 build, but a family member's ex walked out on them and the PC the family bought for said ex (which has a 9800X3D / RTX 5080 w/ 5yr warranty) was offered to me as a freebie.
Previously '83 would launch without issues on the 9060 (AMD) so I have to assume is this is an issue with Nvidia specifically. Does anyone know any way around this or am I just waiting for future driver releases to hopefully iron this out?

Problem with Arma Reforger
There is this weird thing happening only in Arma Reforger. All other games, no matter settings, work just fine on my Bazzite OS. I've recently played Cyberpunk and RD2 on high.
What happens in Arma is this weird black triangle on my screen that never dissapears. I've tried to change all the settings but it just makes things worse.
I insert screenshots of my settings and specs, if anything's missing please just ask, I really need help with this one!

I really wish there was an OPTIONAL setting that sends all my proton logs/crash reports to Valve automatically so I don't have to do it myself
Pretty self exploratory I wish that there was an optional setting that allows me to automatically send proton crashes to valve so I don't have to spend my limited time on my weekend filling out crash reports
An opt in system would be the way to go as user choice is key.
Eg. Latest proton experimental update is crashing Halo: MCC which is fixed in earlier proton versions (I will be filling a bug report but I just don't want too if I can avoid it)

Why your TMR/Hall Effect sticks might feel "off" on Linux: The hidden impact of Kernel Fuzz and Flatness.
TL;DR: (English) If you are using high-resolution controllers (TMR or Hall Effect) on Linux, your driver might be "throwing away" that extra precision due to automatic smoothing filters (fuzz) and deadzones (flat). Here is how I reclaimed surgical precision.
- Debian / Ubuntu / Mint: sudo apt install joystick
- Identificação: sudo evtest /dev/input/eventXX
- O Ajuste: ```bash
- Removendo a zona morta do kernel e reduzindo a suavização sudo evdev-joystick --evdev /dev/input/eventXX --deadzone 0 --fuzz 6
*Nota: Deixei o fuzz em 6 para evitar ruído elétrico, mas o comportamento mudou da água para o vinho.*
Resultado: A linearidade ficou perfeita.

Do I have to redownload my Steam Games when switching to Linux
I have like 50 gb worth of steam games on my external drive that's currenlty formatted to exfat. If I want to switch from Windows 11 to Linux (Fedora Workstation 44 to be more specific), and I need to reformat said external drive top ext4 to run games, can i get away with:
Switch from Windows 11 to Fedora -> move SteamLibrary to internal drive in some folder -> Reformat external drive to ext4 -> move SteamLibrary back to external drive
Or do I have to redownload them when I'm on linux?
Also I should probably prefice that I'm doing this since I have other games that won't fit on my internal drive.
Thanks!

mouse wheel skipping scroll inputs when playing games in bottles with a wireless mouse
i've recently been experimenting with zorin os instead of windows due to my hatred of win11 and i've been trying to run games via bottles and for whatever reason when i scroll it will skip any scroll input that goes in the opposite direction of the way i last scrolled, this problem is only exclusive to bottles as far as i can tell as i don't have this issue while normally using my system
i've tried blocking certain drivers in my systems config files and it hasn't worked but what has worked for whatever reason is if i plug in my mouse via usb while charging it, the scrolling issues go away
are there any known fixes for this?

HDR detection with games using a launcher
How do you get HDR to work when a Steam game has a launcher running like EA App and Ubisoft Connect? What's happening is the HDR launch args think these programs are the game so it tries to target that and fails to target the game itself. This causes the game to become blown out as the game is not rendered in HDR. How do you get child processes to inherit the launch commands that the launcher is using?

What are your recommendations?
After trying Linux a couple years ago and being so annoyed with NVIDIA drivers I just gave up and installed windows.
Now it's time to get a fresh reinstall anyways and I'm planing to dual boot Linux on my gaming pc. Would prefer to have windows just in case something out of my library isn't compatible but I loved to casually use Linux way more back in the day.
Now I know that there is better NVIDIA support but just in case. Got an i7 9700k with Rtx 3060 12gb and mostly play cs. I remember installing a couple different linux versions but I think the one that worked the best for me back in the day way Linux mint.
What would you recommend today? If it also matters its just a gaming system, I don't do anything else with it.
