fedora gaming and dualboot
So, after finally getting my thinkpad for university I got in love with fedora workstation its just so so much better than windows. Now that the last good OS win 10 is dying I decided to also use fedora on my desktop, but I have some questions:
- I use an AMD gpu is fedora good with it and with the amd drivers
- i play valo and fc26. luckily i have 3 ssds in my pc. will there be any problems if i use windows on my slower ssd and linux on the faster ones. EDIT: I would use fedora mainly for coding stuff etc but also light gaming like( terraria especially with mods, minecraft, older nfs like mw underground) will they work on linux as good as they did on windows?

Fast scrolling not registered??
I bind my scroll wheel up and down to left and right click (i have a normal profile too) for the games I play, and on my windows laptop it works perfectly, not slow not delayed, perfectly fine.
On my main machine, running Nobara, when i try to scroll fast, i get significantly less clicks registered, and each time i start scrolling my pc again registers much fewer clicks.
I did a quantitative test on CPStest.org and on windows i can consistently hit 13+ cps up to 28, scrolling as fast as i can. On Nobara, that same method peaks at less than 5 cps.
Is there some kind of system setting or input preference or mouse driver thats causing this? I turned off smooth scrolling and nothing changed.

Need help installing a mod on Heroic game launcher
Bought Battletech from GoG back when I still used Windows and now that I'm using Linux I've been installing GoG games through the Heroic launcher. I'm still learning how things work on Linux so certain instructions go over my head. I'm trying to install ModTek following these instructions from the Github (https://github.com/BattletechModders/ModTek/blob/master/INSTALL.md) and extracted the zip into the game folder. The second step is where I have issues:
I don't know what this means. Do I run a terminal command or are these launch options? And i so how do I add them in Heroic since it doesn't do launch options the same way steam does?

ENB keeps crashing Skyrim
Yo Skyrim fans, what's up with ENB on Linux? It keeps crashing my Skyrim, either before the game even loads, or less than a minute after it loads (but before I can even start a game).
I'm testing with just ENB and nothing else, to eliminate other culprits. I downloaded it from the site and followed the instructions (copied the files into a clean Skyrim, changed the .ini to enable LinuxVersion). I can see ENB compiling shaders, and then soon afterwards the game closes. Nothing in the logs stands out to me. I have the full Skyrim SE+AE+CC combo. I read some guides that suggested adding a few extra d3d .dlls (d3dx11_43, d3dcompiler_43, d3dcompiler_47 etc.), but none of that seemed to help. I haven't experimented much with Steam command line args, because I couldn't find any guides or success reports.
What gives? Has anybody gotten this to work recently and knows how to do it?
All other modding works great. For example the Tuxborn list (~1600 mods but no ENB) works flawlessly, but as soon as ENB gets into the picture, everything breaks 🙄

Please Help a Noob: Linux Mint PPA for Gamescope?
Hello,
I switched from Windows to Linux Mint on my old Asus Tufbook and so far it has been fine, but I am not a Linux expert in any sense of the word. I have some old games that I would like to run with DPI scaling so I can see them better, but DPI scaling doesn't seem to work in Lutris.
I read about Gamescope and it sounds like it will do what I want, but it's not in the software manager and the GitHub page lists a bunch of scary commands for building it myself. I can try and find the flatpack, but it seems that won't work with my non-flatpack install of Steam. Is there a PPA somewhere that will make installing Gamescope a little less intimidating?
Thanks in advance for any help!

How to nuke any n all files related to steamvr/vr in general on ubuntu?
Unable to use "Record Audio from..." option on Steam for Game Recording (CachyOS)
I'm forced to use all system audio for Game Recordings installed on CachyOS (uses arch linux) and I don't have the option to change away from "All System Audio" which could include any music playing.
Is there any way to get this feature working, does another linux distro support it or is it all linux that can't do this?

Sonic Colors Ultimate 3840x2160 Proton Linux
Yes, you can expect a good experience playing Sonic Colors: Ultimate at a 3840x2160 (4K) resolution on Linux using Proton. Based on user reports and gameplay videos, the PC version of the game is well-equipped to handle high resolutions and frame rates, and this generally translates to a solid performance on Linux through Valve's Proton compatibility layer.

Suddenly missing video assets in Helldivers 2; is it something in my system?
I've been playing Helldivers 2 on my Linux Mint (21.3) (newbie, have been running Linux for a little over a year now) since about Christmas 2024. Haven't had any real issues to speak of. Recently, however, the game received a new update with new content. Good stuff, it was an enjoyable week or so. But the new stuff was buggy and problematic, so the devs removed some of the new content to patch it. Ever since that post-update patch, my game has had graphical issues unlike anything I've ever seen (game assets not loading, see screenshots). There's little rhyme or reason for what is invisible and what isn't...some background objects are invisible on-ship, but some aren't. Human skin textures load, but not armor. This makes the game hard enough to play, since the enemies are also mostly invisible now. But the last two screenshots show what it looks like when dropping on-planet. There's a mass of white dots everywhere, and the final screenshot was taken right as the game crashed (less than a minute into gameplay).
My question is: Is this something to do with my system, or is it something from the patch?
Things I've tried: Verify graphics drivers are current (and tried older versions), verify integrity of Steam installation files, uninstall/reinstall game, mess with in-game graphical settings. Thinking that maybe a new app installation borked something, complete wipe/reinstall of OS and reinstalled only basic applications but still get the exact same symptoms.
System: I've got an Nvidia GTX 1080, running a 2TB SSD, 32GB of RAM.
I'm completely at a loss; my friends can still play (although performance issues are a problem; the devs are working on that currently). But when I try to play with them, they can see me but I can't see them. I've tried the dev's tech support page, but no replies. Tried their Discord, but the active mod said they didn't have experience with Linux. Tried the sub-Reddit, got no replies at all. I miss playing this game, and I hope that someone can help me get this figured out. None of the other graphics-heavy games I play have this issue.

Help me.
Flatpak steam can't download games in my hard drive. It always ends with "write error". I've mitigated this issue by using the repo steam. I prefer flatpak however. Also how do i run old games like project igi, the house of the dead 1/2/3, teknoparrot emulation of house of the dead 4/scarlet dawn etc? Lastly do i need lutris if steam can handle all my needs? Thanks and i use endavouros btw.

SteamVR beta, Quest 3, low bitrate?
With the latest SteamVR update, my Meta Quest 3 finally seems to work on Linux. Just yesterday I tried running Alyx and it wouldn’t start at all, but now it actually runs. The only problem is that the image quality feels off — the bitrate seems pretty low. On Windows or when using WiVRn, the image looks much sharper. When I move my head quickly, I notice some heavy artifacts in SteamVR.
Is there any way to force a higher bitrate? I’m only about one meter from a Wi‑Fi 6 router, and speed tests show over 500 Mbit, so bandwidth shouldn’t be the issue.

Switching over to Linux. All advice highly appreciated.
Hello, folks of r/linux_gaming! This is my first post here. As we all know, Windows 10 support is ending soon, and I don't wanna use Win11. Please suggest some good distros for my regular use (gaming, youtube, coding).
My specs are:
CPU: Intel i5-6500 (6th Gen)
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 530
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Storage: 512 GB SSD
I mainly use my PC for coding (Java, Python, etc.), browsing, and playing games like Assassin’s Creed (up to Black Flag) and Dying Light 1.
I've been considering:
Pop!_OS (Intel/AMD edition)
Nobara Linux
Linux Mint Cinnamon
Ubuntu LTS
All advice is highly appreciated👍🏼
