Weird freezing issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 13:27

Apologies for the awkward video but it is the only way I can show it.

A couple days ago I wanted to play warframe witch a couple of friends, so I install it and make it full screen. Now almost every game I try to play has the issue shown in the video. It seems quite inconsistent but generally will either freeze my main monitor when I full screen a game or freeze whenever I am not in a menu. OBS still picks it up like normal and if I have my taskbar or another window over the game it seems to run fine.

I tried playing games on my windows install and they work fine there, so it's a linux issue, I just don't know what could be causing it. I think it could be warframe, but I've uninstalled that and from what I can find no one else has ran into this issue so it could be something that was going on for longer that I just noticed or made worse somehow. Only other cause I can think of is layering a VPN and the associate browser (When I rebooted after layering the browser all that loaded after logging in was my wallpaper, though everything else loaded after a couple minutes and I ran into no other issues.) but I don't know why that would be causing this and the issue persists after uninstalling. If there's a better place to find a solution for this issue feel free to send me there.

Recommendation for Ryzen 3600/16gb/Rx 5600xt for 70% general purpose/30% gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 13:26

Setting a Linux system for a friend who has used Mint for years, but still I'd consider him a newbie. He's into general productivity apps (ranging from astronomy, to music, to ancient Greek studies) but would also like to play Witcher 3...

Which Linux distros would you recommend based on his setup (subject)?

I was leaning towards either something general purpose (Fedora KDE) or something more gaming oriented (bazzite, cachyos, endeavour). Not sure if the latter ones have a solid package base for other stuff besides games though.

Steam on NTFS drive

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 10:58

Currently have 2 drives, one with Win11 and the other with my Steam library (both NTFS obviously)

I want to try Linux again but ideally would like to avoid downloading game files again. If I overwrite my Windows drive with Linux, could I point Steam to use the library on the NTFS drive?

Would prefer to keep this drive intact incase I go back to Windows.

MangoHud not working on Lutris(flatpak)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 10:46

Hello everyone,

I have both the MangoHud system package and the Flatpak version installed, which is a runtime and not a specific app. Both versions work fine; I tested MangoHud (system) with Yuzu, and it works great. I also tested MangoHud (Flatpak) with DuckStation, PCSX2, and other Flatpak applications, and they work well too. However, it is not working with Lutris (Flatpak).

I have tried all methods, such as setting the environment variable to MANGOHUD=1, and I also set it in Flatseal. I even ran it with MANGOHUD=1 in the terminal, but nothing seems to work.

Please let me know how to make MangoHud work with Lutris (Flatpak).

EA app prevents me from playing Battlefield 4

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 10:17

Hello. I've been battling this for a few months now. I cant get EA app to connect to EA's services to actually activate my games (BF4, BF3), it always ends on a 'Servers couldn't do their server thing, connect to internet' notice.
My specs:
* Archlinux, `linux` kernel 6.16.3, KDE Plasma (Wayland)
* Ryzen 5 3600X
* AMD Radeon RX5700 XT
* 32 GBs of RAM
Things I've tried sofar:
* different proton versions (exp, hotfix, 10.0 beta, 9.0, 3.16-9, GE)
* deleting the compat data folder for BF4, all game data and then reinstalling the game
* 2 different computers - my desktop and my laptop
* installing the EA app through lutris and using both my system wine version as well as GE
* installing Origin (that one does not connect either although that could also be cause it has been dead for a while ig?
* switching DNS (normally I use quad9 but I added google and cf as fallback)
Any suggestions on what more to try? Anybody who's faced this issue and found an actual solution? Is the EA app just dead on purpose? Thanks in advance for answers.

Any help with DragonBall Fighterz Please?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 07:56

Im using linux mint and cant get this game to open. Every time I hit Run, I see Gokus face, then the screen goes black, and then it crashes. I do not want to play online, I just want to play it local. I keep seeing people talking about this issue, and it is fixed by "circunventing the anti cheat", but I can't find a wait to do that.

Immortals of Aveum Windows Save data doesn't work on Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 07:38

Hi, right now I downloaded Immortals of Aveum to my ROG Ally running Bazzite, and right now when I try and load my Windows save data on it, it just says save data may be corrupted. But then when I load the save data using Windows it works fine. Have any of you ever ran into an issue of Windows save data not working with Proton?

I'm running Proton Experimental

Announcing a unique new Linux gaming OS - Kazeta

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 06:56

Hi, everyone. Founder of ChimeraOS here. For the past 6 months I have been working on a new passion project and I am finally ready to announce it today. A new Linux-based gaming operating system called "Kazeta" - the Czech word for “cassette”.

Kazeta came from a few things I have been thinking about lately:

- I noticed a lot of non-technical people using ChimeraOS/SteamOS getting lost in Steam’s complex menu structure and struggling with basic things like launching and closing games.
- I became disenchanted with digital storefronts and have come back around to appreciating physical media: game cartridges, CDs, DVDs
- I have gotten more and more into collecting old physical games and systems and found them to be a much more pleasant experience than what modern gaming offers
- I have become more and more concerned with preserving my digital game collection for play in the future.

Kazeta is a gaming operating system like no other. It solves for all of the above by recreating the experience of using a ‘90s gaming console, only with modern PC games and hardware.

The basic idea is that you install individual DRM-free games on real physical “cartridges” which can be any external storage media, but I recommend full size SD cards because they look and feel like cartridges and can be relatively easily labelled.

To play a game cartridge on Kazeta, you simply insert the cartridge and turn on the system. When you are done playing, you press the power button to turn it off. That’s it. There are no accounts, no online requirements, no cloud, no nothing.

The cherry on top is that the cartridges are treated as read-only and save data is captured separately, keeping your games untouched and preserved forever.

If you boot a Kazeta system with no cartridge inserted, it will boot into a retro-style bios menu where you can manage your game saves, just like the gaming consoles from the latter half of the ‘90s.

Kazeta is definitely not for everyone. It requires a bit of work to get started, but I have been using it quite a bit the last few months and it has brought me a lot of joy. I hope it can bring joy to others as well.

If you are interested in learning more, please check out the website: https://kazeta.org

Thanks!

Steam Overlay rendering incorrectly in Celeste on Debian 13

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 30. August 2025 - 06:33

I’m running Celeste through Steam on Debian 13 (not the Flatpak version). The game itself runs fine, but the Steam Overlay renders incorrectly inside the game - it looks distorted/glitched and is basically unusable.
