Trying to get a game to work from gog via lutris

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 02:53

Okay so I’m feeling defeated, I hate asking for help but here I am. So Im trying to get a game “mortal shell” to run from my gog account through lutris. I sign into gog through lutris without issue. I can see my games on gog. I click on mortal shell to download. I make sure the runner “wine” is installed. The game installs then i click play and it throws an error”runtimerror: no path can be generated for DXVK because no version information is available”. I’ve been trying to work through this all week. Ive looked on lutris website, forums and searched online for this error and i don’t see anyone posting a solution to this. I’ve watch quite a few YouTube videos on how to set up lutris but i dont see what im missing. Could someone point me in the right direction? If it matters, Arch with plasma installed the arch way, AMD 7950, gpu is a 7900xtx.

How much more performance improvements can be added to Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 02:32

esync/fsync/ patches, explicit sync support and wine running through Wayland properly are all examples of things that either have been done or will be done eventually to give performance gains on Linux, especially when running Windows games. This has me curious as to what's left that could potentially be done to improve performance. How much more optimized can we possibly make this? How much more performance is left on the table?

Why do Unreal Engine games run poorly on linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 01:10

That's been my experience anyway.

All of them are like this. They run fine on Windows, but any proton i've tried, and WineGE, horrible performance.

Latest example, Breathedge.

I have a Nvidia 1060 3GB, Breathedge on windows, high settings 720p, solid 60 FPS. Linux, barely medium, FSR on and chugging at 20 FPS.

Is there some secret to getting to run UE games on linux better?

Some other examples of non UE games that run fine on Windows and really badly on linux is Vampyr, Prey, The Evil Within 2 and Subnautica.

And i don't have a good enough GPU for the FPS difference to be not noticable. Like, if the difference is 200+FPs on windows and 140 on linux, fine, lol, but what could otherwise be a playable experience, turns out into a bad one with UE games.

Anyone else experience something similar, or have any tips on making those run better? Besides getting a new GPU, i won't be getting a new one before winter, and no it won't be an Nvidia.

Roblox question and windows question.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 01:07

I know I know. It's gone, but wanted to triple check because my son is now begging me to reinstall windows on his laptop. It's older. Linux was great. But without Roblox he wants windows back.

If other than the mobile version, it's not available, any luck switching to windows? I tried once before and couldn't get it to install.

Increased fps in some games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 23:59

So I have a decent computer, 10700k, 7900xt, 64 gigs of ram and am playing primarily world of warcraft and am getting 30 fps in populated areas and 60 fps elsewhere while using windows 11. I am running at 4k but have tried lowing the resolution and getting a marginal improvement.

After some searching online I've seen several posts from people on various sites stating that they switched to Linux and got drastic improvement. Some people stating 200+ fps increases on the same hardware. Is this actually possible or no?

I have wow on my steam deck and get over 100fps but that is at a much lower resolution so can't compare too well.

GPU pass through

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 23:04

So I want to build a pc with these specs as I’m going to do a lot of IT things.

GPU1: 3080 GPU2: 4080 CPU: R9 7950X3D RAM: 128GB DDR5 @ 5200 Storage: 4x 4TB NVME

Things I want to be able to do (not always at the same time but would be nice to be able to leave the VM open):

Using a VM with windows which uses the 4080 (with pass through) for windows guest for gaming without losing too much performance. Most games will be played at 1440p 180hz also some VR games

Also other VMs like Kali will be used don’t need GPU pass through for those only for the windows guest.

General CPU intensive tasks on the Linux Arch host.

Also want the 3080 to be used for the Linux Arch host.

I don’t want to use dual boot.

The machine will be on most of the time.

Also video editing and photoshopping.

Will this be possible or is this something only achievable in a dream?

Is there anything I need to look out for? Is there anything I won’t be able to do? Is there anything I should be doing differently?

Does anyone else have problems with PPSSPP on Pop_OS?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 22:29

Somehow certain games keep crashing when trying to load a gamefile. For example Dissidia 012. The game itself loads just fine, but as soon as I click on "load game" it crashes at the screen where my savefiles should be. So its clearly a problem of the emulator or the assets (it also works perfectly fine on other OSes or my og PSP). I could start a new game just fine and can also open the options menu, it only crashes once I want to load a game. So, did anyone else have this problem and managed to fix it? Sadly google wasnt really helpful, I did find a few threads with exactly the same problem but no answers of how to fix it. Im using Pop OS with PPSSPP with default settings except bumped up resolution. I also tried the obvious with reinstalling the Flatpak (from both, Pop Shop and terminal. Same source anyway, yeah, but I was desperate enough to give it a shot).

EDIT: Forgot to mention another really weird problem: Everytime I open PPSSPP while listening to Youtube the sound of the video gets really distorted for a few seconds. I dont have this problem with any other Flatpak, its only PPSSPP that screws up my sound while opening. No idea if its related, but its another really weird problem this specific program has.

Getting started: The monthly distro/desktop thread!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 22:20

“Should I switch to Linux?”

“Which distro should I install?”

“Which desktop environment is best for gaming?”

If the FAQ could not answer these questions for you, this is the thread for you! (Just be aware that a lot of it comes down to taste/personal preferences.)

Lutris stopped detecting GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 22:15

Basically the title says it. As of today, after an nvdia firmware update, Lutris, which to this point was running just fine stopped detecting my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050. I've just had this laptop for two weeks, things were going fine, but as I'm totally new to Linux am still trying to find my ways around it

These are the Lutris settings:

Vulkan support: YES

Esync support: YES

Fsync support: YES

Wine installed: YES

Gamescope: NO

Mangohud: NO

Gamemode: YES

Steam: NO

In Flatpak: YES

[System]

OS: GNOME 45 Flatpak runtime

Arch: x86_64

Kernel: 6.5.0-27-generic

Desktop: ubuntu:GNOME

Display Server: x11

[CPU]

Vendor: GenuineIntel

Model: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-13420H

Physical cores: 8

Logical cores: 12

[Memory]

RAM: 15.3 GB

Swap: 4.0 GB

[Graphics]

Vendor: Intel

OpenGL Renderer: Mesa Intel(R) Graphics (RPL-P)

OpenGL Version: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 24.0.4 (git-bb6a55b75b)

OpenGL Core: 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 24.0.4 (git-bb6a55b75b)

OpenGL ES: OpenGL ES 3.2 Mesa 24.0.4 (git-bb6a55b75b)

Vulkan Version: 1.3.261

Vulkan Drivers: Intel(R) Graphics (RPL-P) (1.3.274)

Advanced Global options in Lutris do not show the NVDIA as a GPU option.

Hope this is not too vague, but I am very new to linux. If more information is needed I'm happy to get it, just need to know how to. Thanks for any advice.

Getting Dualsense Edge working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 22:14

Hello

I have a Problem with my Dualsense Edge Controller under Fedora and Pop_OS!.

When i connect my controller, Steam is recognising it as a Dualsense Edge, but the touchpad and extra Buttons like Paddle and F1 and F2 botten doesnt work.

The Controlls are also all mapped wrong and even after calibrating it, the right stick for whatever reason activates a remote Desktop Window Prompt.

Under Windows, and under Bazzite and Nobara the Controller works perfekt, everything is mapped right, and every button works (even Gyro controlls) so Bazzite and Nobara are applying some kind of Tweaks or Fixes to make it work, but i can't figure out what it is, because i relatively new to Linux.

Can someone help me? Right now, it's the last hurdle that keeps me from enjoy Fedora and Pop_OS!

Rofi steam menu script

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 21:47

I made a bash script for launching steam games with rofi.

https://preview.redd.it/uvbx8lckr3uc1.png?width=1286&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a27d9d6ccb022bc1aa8130193ececa7e33f1f2e

#!/usr/bin/env bash games=$(find ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/ -maxdepth 1 -type f -name '*.acf' -exec awk -F '"' '/"appid|name/{ printf $4 "|" } END { print "" }' {} \; | tr '|' "\t" | sort -k 2) selected=$(cut -f2 <<< "$games" | rofi -fuzzy -dmenu -format 'i') [[ -z "$selected" ]] && exit # exit if "$selected" is empty steam steam://rungameid/`awk -v lineNum=" $(( $selected + 1 ))" 'NR==lineNum { print $1 }' <<< $games`

It only displays games that you have currently installed in steam and launches them right away.

Anyone running Bazzite with Nvidia GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 21:27

I'm running a RTX 4090 and I'm looking to ditch Windows forever. I just learned of Bazzite and it looks pretty great! I have an Alienware OLED ultrawide so HDR is a must. How is HDR support on Nvidia GPUs? Do things like Nvidia Reflex and ray tracing work just as well as they do in Windows?

DS5 not being detected by Steam when connected for the second and following times.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 19:42

After boot, I connect my DS5, the blue lights on the sides light up and also a white light in the center.

I play extensively, no issues or whatsoever but it comes to a point that I need a little break and I turn off my controller so that it does not waste more charge.

When I come back, I turn the controller on just like before, but now it only has the blue bars but not the white dot light in the middle, and it is not being detected by Steam.

I quit Steam, turn off the controller, turn it back on again, but the lights remain just blue without the white indicator light.

What could possibly be making the controller connect differently after the first time?

After I reboot my PC I can connect successfully, as a first time, and it gets detected and I play once again with no issues.

I am so confused and I cannot understand what could possibly be the issue.

I have already messed around with all the Steam input settings and nothing seems to be doing it for me.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Edit: this was not an issue that used to happen before, and I did not change anything related to this.
Could it be related to Steam or Bluetooth updates?

Help with getting LinVAM running for a complete and utter noob

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12. April 2024 - 19:41

I finally decided to try out mint in a dual boot beside windows 10 yesterday. While going through game compatibilities, I found that Voice Attack doesn't work through Linux or by using Proton, so I started looking for alternatives. I came across LinVAM https://github.com/aidygus/LinVAM

I've been doing my best to get it running through Terminal, but I'm now stuck here:
