[Guide] How to solve Dualsense connection and detection issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 16:29

After many game sessions that I couldn't use my controller through bluetooth, I've found this tips through some obscure searches.

  1. Doesn't reconnect after a successful connection:
add kernel parameter "btusb.enable_autosuspend=0" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX

  2. Connected but not working:
Downgrade bluez to version 5.68, any version after that makes the controller unusable. Also, make sure to version-lock it so it doesn't update. Look up how to do this in your distro.

Hope it helps.

Anyone have any idea how to run the PC versions of Sega Rally 1 & 2 on Steam Deck? I got the files from myabandonware, but not sure how to get them to run. I got Sega Rally Revo running fine though. Do I have to use Lutris or can they be run standalone?

Osu and playback issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 15:20

So i recently download OSU and from the AUR. While i was playing with my friend and i discovered that i can't play other music (for example previewing a map or just playing regular audio file using mpv, youtube playback isn't working etc.) but osu audio is working. I saw that in pavoucontrol osu isn't displayed anywhere. I did install pipewire-pulse but again the playback isn't working. The issue persists until i stop OSU. Also sometimes when i start OSU there's no audio from the game.

Has anyone gotten Microsoft Store games running?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 11:47

Hello, as the title says, I was just wondering if anyone have gotten Microsoft Store games to run on Linux.

I once was very stupid and purchased Astroneer on that platform instead of Steam, would it be possible to run it on Linux or do I just have to dual boot?

Thanks!

Tested gaming on Linux - and it works, but have a few questions...

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 11:11

Hi, I have a Steam Deck (which is a Linux PC) and a Linux laptop (productivity oriented, just an APU, no dedicated GPU). And I tried gaming - and it just works, very nicely actually.

I plan to move to Linux entirely, I may go for a proper Linux gaming laptop and I play mostly CRPGs, some action RPGs and sometimes the odd ARPG (PoE, LE).

Honestly, running Linux has for personally so many advantages (I'm a software engineer in my daytime job and I prefer to keep my privacy, also I prefer the simplicity and ease of use of Linux over the "overengineered" Windows) that I want to do this rather early than later.

Can I go 100% Linux? What do you think?

Issue with GPU driver crash in VR Chat

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 10:18

Hello, I recently got a new GPU (swapping from NVIDIA to AMD) and have run into an issue that I can't seem to figure out that is specifically related to VRChat. Basically, when joining specific worlds my graphics driver just crashes/restarts (I can often still hear game audio and it still responds to inputs, which I can tell by moving my mouse and hearing world audio move in my headphones).

The error happens regardless of whether or not I'm playing in VR.

After running DMESG I find the following error:

[ 1711.355150] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: [gfxhub] page fault (src_id:0 ring:40 vmid:1 pasid:32797, for process VRChat.exe pid 17982 thread dxvk-submit pid 18073) [ 1711.355157] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: in page starting at address 0x000080014c500000 from client 10 [ 1711.355160] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: GCVM_L2_PROTECTION_FAULT_STATUS:0x00141050 [ 1711.355162] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: Faulty UTCL2 client ID: TCP (0x8) [ 1711.355164] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: MORE_FAULTS: 0x0 [ 1711.355166] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: WALKER_ERROR: 0x0 [ 1711.355167] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: PERMISSION_FAULTS: 0x5 [ 1711.355169] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: MAPPING_ERROR: 0x0 [ 1711.355170] amdgpu 0000:2f:00.0: amdgpu: RW: 0x1 [ 1721.443643] [drm:amdgpu_job_timedout [amdgpu]] *ERROR* ring gfx_0.0.0 timeout, but soft recovered

I will also get a popup in KDE when the error occurs that says "Desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset"

Linux Noob about to start using Linux Windows Dual-boot. Final few questions.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 10:14

Good morning. (Or evening. Or whatever.)

Ive been looking into starting to use Linux as my main OS for some time now. I'm mostly ready to pull the trigger now but I thought Ill ask the people that have actual use experience about some more specific things before I finally do it.

Ive read through the FAQ & the Getting started thread a and still have some question about some of the answers there. So here goes.

First off:

  • I'm most likely gonna go with Mint but then install the KDE-Plasma DE.
  • Im using a RADEON 7900XTX.

Now onto some of my questions:

  1. I've heard that Manjaro is also a decently fine distro for beginners to start with. Can any user attest to that?
  2. I'm guessing there is no AMD Adrenaline for Linux. That is fine. I mostly just need a similar recording feature to ReLive (or Shadowplay if you are more familiar with the NVIDIA equivalent). Is there anything like that? I know there is OBS but I'm more looking for a "replay recorder" that I can just have start up with boot and that runs in the background.
  3. In the FAQ is said that AMD's AMF is not supported on Linux. Does that mean not supported at all period? Because I love the HW AV1 Encoding on my XTX. Keeps the files small and good looking. But the FAQ also said that its not recommended to install AMDs Pro Drivers that add support for it.
  4. Ive seen some images and some talks that the normal Discord application does not support Desktop or Game steaming? Is that only a Mint thing or is that a Linux thing in general?
  5. (Less specifically about gaming but maybe someone knows something.) Ive been using VoiceMeeter as my VMC for some time to. From what I've read there is no Linux version. Does anyone know of a good alternative VMC on Linux?

Now into some Dual-Boot specific questions.

Things to know:

I have 5 storage devices inside my PC (All formatted by windows):

  • 1 1TB PCIe 3x m.2 for my Windows (and future Linux) Install.
  • 1 3TB HDD for general files (Images, Videos, Music, Programs that don't need SSD speeds).
  • 1 random 500GB SATA SSD. Partitioned into two parts. First part as somewhat fast SSD speeds mostly used for my productivity software (Video/Image editing). Second part is used by PrimoCache as SSD cache for the next Hard Drive.
  • 1 8TB bulk gaming storage HDD. (With the about 250GB SSD cache mentioned above). Used for most of my games, Game related software (modding tools, etc.) and Emulators/ROMs.
  • 1 2TB PCIe 4x m.2 for games that demand more storage speeds or games that use direct storage.

Now the questions:

  1. How much of my Boot Drive should I use for Linux? As you can see above I have many different storage devices for most of the more Storage demanding things. So the Boot drive would mainly be used for the OS and programs that can make good use of the m.2 speeds.
  2. I'm assuming I can set my Linux user files (Images, Videos, etc.) to be saved on a different Drive than the main OS drive. Am I right with that assumption? Can I set that as a default?
  3. Does anyone have experience with GitHub page from Valve: Using a NTFS disk with Linux and Windows. How big are the risks when using this?
  4. Alternatively does anyone have experience with WinBtrfs and in extension Ntfs2btrfs. Does anyone know if there are any heavy risks in trying this?
  5. Since on Windows I used PrimoCache to set up halve of the 500GB SSD as a Cache for my 8TB HDD. Would there be a way to do the same on Linux (Potentially even using the same cache. Tho that seems more out worldly so I don't expect that do work.)?

Phew. That should be about all. If I remember anything else I'll add it as an edit.
I know a good bunch of the question don't seems specifically gaming related but trust me. All of them in a way loop around to be related to my gaming experience.

(Sorry for any typos or weird typing. English is not my first Language and I still need my morning Coffee.)

Kernel Recommendations

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 09:41

Hey guys,

Been playing around a bit with kernels the past few days. Started with a fresh install of Arch Linux with the base/mainstream kernel installed, then progressed into using the ZEN kernel, then TKG and XanMod. From my personal testing and bench-marking, I've mostly found all of them to perform mostly the same, with little to no difference, some considerably worse in the MIN FPS logs.

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on kernels and their experience with them? For me, I think I will be falling back to the ZEN kernel.

[GTA Vice City, Lutris] I can't, for the life of me, get my controller working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 07:58
  1. My main goal is to play Vice City with the Vice City - Definitive Edition Project (not to be confused with the Definitive Edition Trilogy)

  2. I have tried using steam to enable steam input, and this works, but for some reason, doesn't load the Definitive Edition Project mods correctly, which is defeats the purpose

  3. My controller is detected $ lsusb Bus 001 Device 008: ID 0e6f:02b8 Logic3 Afterglow Wired Controller for Xbox One

  4. My controller is working, in other games

  5. I installed the GInput mod for Vice City, still nothing

  6. I tried setting my controller mapping to the SDL_GAMECONTROLLERCONFIG environment variable within lutris, still, to no avail.

Anyone have any suggestions or tips? Newer games are a breeze to set up, but older games always seem to give me trouble. I wouldn't be so bothered to use a controller if this was just an RPG or RTS game, but any game that involves driving feels much better with a controller.

been trying to run some games on an old laptop with mint, running into directx problems

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 04:26

i've got an old lenovo x1 carbon thinkpad and i am experimenting with linux mint on it before i put it on my real computer. I have installed proton for steam, but whenever i run a game i see this message.

"Failed to initialize graphics. Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up do date drivers for your graphics card, etc"

This laptop most likely doesnt have a graphics card, and the only way to get around this was to enter this command :

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1

My question is how do i get around this, i am pretty sure it has to do with dxvk but i also saw that proton is supposed to sort that out by itself.

thanks

GTA VC unaligned crosshair

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 04:14

I recently started playing the original trilogy again that I had bought from the Rockstar store, the game runs fine with minimal bugs but the crosshair is unaligned from where the guns fire.

How can I fix this?

Poor and unstable performance in CS 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 01. April 2024 - 03:56

Hey, I recently installed Counter-Strike 2 on my Linux system, and I'm struggling with performance issues. My PC is very CPU-limited (i5-8400 and RX 6700 XT, 16GB RAM), but I was able to get a stable 200/250 FPS on Windows (depending on amount of players rendered).

However, now I'm unable to achieve any stable framerate; the FPS keeps fluctuating. For a few seconds, I'm getting around ~120 FPS, and then it dips to like 23. And the frametime is, most of them time, all over the place.

Is there any fix for this game, or does it just not perform well on Linux? I'm using Linux Arch (btw), KDE Plasma 6.0.3, X11, 'lib32-vulkan-radeon' vulkan driver."
