Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 15:58

Im literally gonna set myself on fire if i dont find a solution for this game. Proton experimental does nothing as well as the older versions and running the game without proton layer does nothing as well. HELP.

Do people still use Pop!_OS for gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 15:39

When I first started getting into linux, everyone told me "use Pop!_OS for gaming", I did and I loved it. Now I see everyone using CachyOS for gaming, and that leaves me wondering if Pop!_OS is still very popular for gaming.

Seeking Advice: Building a future-proof, 100% offline "Linux Console" designed to last for decades.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 15:23

First off, apologies for using AI to properly convey my thoughts. English is my third language. But I can confirm that the query below 100% aligns with what I want.

Hello everyone,

I'm starting a project that I'm really passionate about: building a "time capsule" gaming machine. The vision is to create a PC that acts and feels like a console. A year or two after I install and configure all my games, I intend to take it completely offline—permanently. The goal is to have a self-contained system that I can power on ten years from now and have it just work, without worrying about servers being down, forced updates, or online authentication.

Here are my core requirements:

  • The "Forever Offline" Philosophy: Once the library is set, the internet is cut off for good. To achieve this, my library will consist of DRM-free games from sources like GOG, supplemented by DRM-free versions of games from other platforms.
  • A True Console Experience: The system must be fully navigable with a controller from boot to shutdown. I'm looking for a seamless UI experience, with keyboard and mouse only being used for the occasional strategy game or CRPG.

Given this goal, I'm looking for advice on the unknown unknowns. What am I not thinking about? Specifically:

  1. OS & Front-End: What's the best combination for a "set it and forget it" setup? Do ChimeraOS/Bazzite work well being offline forever?
  2. Compatibility Layers: How do I "freeze" my setup? For games running through Proton/Wine, should I be making backups of the specific versions and prefixes used for each game to prevent future breakage?
  3. Hardware Considerations: Are there any hardware choices that would be better for long-term reliability and offline use? I'm aiming for AMD parts to have a higher chance of compatibility.
  4. Backup & Restoration: What's the best way to create a full system image of everything (OS, games, configs)? If the hardware dies in 10 years, I need a reliable way to restore this entire environment to a new machine. I plan on storing all the install files in a separate HDD/SSD.

Basically I'd like a system that will have its hardware break first before the software does. I would love to hear from anyone who has attempted something similar. What pitfalls did you run into? What would you do differently? Thanks for helping me build my forever console!

Fellowship early access

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 14:18

Has anyone made Fellowship work properly on Linux? By using the launch options “echo “%commands%” | sed ‘s/fellowship/fellowship-launcher/‘ | sh” I can open the game and get all the way into picking a hero and running around in the menu area BUT nothing happens when I click “find game”. Additionally I also have no friend code…

I use Arch Linux btw.

Playing pirated games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 11:26

I've experienced issues with games I've pirated in the past, as they sometimes have trouble running on linux, for example saying I have incompatible drivers or that there was a memory leak.

If you're experiencing these issues, try to add the .exe file as a Non-Steam game to steam, and then input the correct Proton version and command from protondb, corresponding to that game. This worked for me

Ashes of Creation - Linux Users Banned Overnight

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 09:54

Woke up to being banned from Ashes of Creation, account has been closed entirely. Took to the discord this morning and discovered, seemingly everyone who has used Linux with Ashes was banned last night. One user logged in once weeks ago. To make matters worse, this happened on the weekend and as far as we can tell from the discussion, no one who can clarify what's going on is working over the weekend.

I get the whole "unsupported OS" argument but fuck me, I wasn't expecting to have my account deleted with no real explanation as to why. It also makes the claim in this post that Intrepid don't do autobans very frustrating.

Back to Arch linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 09:35

Should I go back to Arch for gaming? I used Arch with i3wm on my old laptop for about a year and a half. But recently, I built a PC and have been using Windows 11 for gaming. It’s not a very powerful setup just an AMD APU without a dedicated GPU. I've been playing Valorant The Finals and FC26 but honestly, I'm done with Windows 11. Still, I want to keep gaming. Doesn't have to be arch btw

I Tried Input Remapper, And Now It's Virtual Device Wont Go Away.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 08:44

I tried using it for my game controller, and I didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Uninstalling it, specifically using apt purge, for some reason did not purge its related virtual gamepad/input device(s). Its messing with me trying to use my controller elsewhere because my computer thinks I'm using 2 controllers at once. How can I delete, remove, or permanently disable this input device?

I tried following some instructions I found online that suggested I create the following file:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-disable-gamepad.conf

and then add the following templated information to it:

Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Virtual Gamepad" Option "Device" "/dev/input/event#" Option "SendCoreEvents" "false" EndSection

while replacing "event#" with the specific event number of the virtual device. I found those event numbers by using "libinput list-devices" where it exactly specifies which device name corresponds to which event number. It then said to restart Xorg or my PC without specifying a command to do so. I looked up a command that was supposed to do it, but it just made the screen go black and never come back(after minutes). I used the power button to shutdown my pc, and rebooted. I was greeted with tty1, not my usual login, and it didn't let me switch to tty7(where my display usually is located). I had to use timeshift to roll back my pc a few hours. And now I'm here.

Evidently somewhere in this chain of events, I screwed something up, or the instructions were not detailed enough. In any case, I am still left with my problem, and my fear of screwing something up again if I were to try something similar.

I am running Linux Mint 21.3, should that be relevant.

Oblivion Remastered

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 07:30

I'm having trouble launching the game in Linux Mint (fresh install - I am new to Linux, coming from Windows). It ran fine on Windows 10, but when I launch the game in Linux (and I've tried several of the Proton options Steam provides), Steam says it launching, and then after a few seconds, it tells me it is running, and after 5-10 seconds, it stops. I never actually see the executable, nor the crash report window. I am running obse with a few mods, but it does not launch, whether I am using the obse executable or the native one.

Edit: I also verified the integrity of the game files and even uninstalled and reinstalled the game.

Is CachyOS the best?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 07:28

For gaming?

I am wondering if anything comes close to it if it is, or perhaps surpasses it

I am on CachyOS currently, but my OS broke after update today. I love the speed of the OS, but it broke through basic update

Not sure if it is a regular situation, but I am not very happy with this, forcing me t reinstall

Flight stick setup?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 18. Oktober 2025 - 06:58

I have 2 t1t6000m flight sticks. Jstest and KDE's built in controller tester can see the and they work as they should. But when it comes to playing steam games, none of them even detect them and I don't see them in controllers. Any idea on where to start? The arch discussion page had nothing on this that I could see
