Counter-Strike 2 FPS Question?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 20:11

I have an RTX 2060 NVIDIA video card. I think CS on Linux gives lower fps than Windows DX12. Vulkan vs DX12 situation. So how much is this fps difference and should I use X11 or has Wayland gotten better considering my graphics card?

Decent 1080p monitor for under 200 USD?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 19:42

My current monitor is an 8 year old ASUS 1080p monitor that only runs at 60Hz. I've heard that grabbing a 144/165 Hz refresh rate monitor is worth it. I use Plasma 6 on Wayland and just want something good that you'd guys recommend below 200 USD.

/dev: Vanguard x LoL - League of Legends

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 19:41

Interesting article. I think it has 2 main points: 1) even with server anti cheat, it's really hard to block Chesters 2) it will always be easier to cheat on Linux because it's ny design so free and customizable.

Switching from Mint to another distro for primarily gaming?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 19:35

Hello all,

I made the switch from Windows to Linux a few months ago.

I decided to use Mint as my first distro and I love it and I know a lot more now than I used to. I decided to try KDE(I have been daily driving Cinnamon) as the desktop environment just because I have a Steam Deck and I love the UI.

KDE on Mint so far has been amazing. It is working as it should and is very stable. The only issue I had was with the compositor which I disabled.

Essentially the only reason I am considering switching distros is because Mint is using an older version of KDE and I would like a distro that stays on an updated version since things like HDR and Wayland is big for me.

I feel like I wouldnt have too much of a hard time switching since from what I see, the DE seems to matter more than the distro in terms of daily basic usage.

Would you guys recommend I stick to Mint and leave as is or try a new distro? If a new distro then what exactly would be something thats up to date but not very difficult like Arch?

If it helps, I am on an Nvidia GPU running an RTX 4090 so a distro with nice Nvidia GPU support like Mint(from my experience) would be heavily preferred.

Thank you!

I made a video guide on how to install Assetto Corsa with mods on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 18:46

I tried to explain everything inside of this video - Installing & Modding Assetto Corsa on Linux (Content Manager, CSP, SOL) I tried to make it simple so most of you can understand it. Ever since GE-Proton9 released this game became easy to setup. If you like Sim Racing games, let me know what you think of this, and if this worked for you.

Steam Tinker Launch issue Steamdeck

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 17:50

I have posted this on github as well but hoping someone here has a fix.

I have 5 games with trainers attached running fine with STL. However Baldurs Gate 3 has stopped working. It ran fine before Jan 2024. I have resinstalled the game and when launching through STL in the Main Menu I accidentially changed proton settings. It all auto closed down and won't load since.

I have deleted protons, compatdata for stl and BG3, reinstalled the game multiple times but it does not boot. It asks to choose proton version of which none work and when I select one it seems to quickly install mod oragniser which I don't need. Any proton selected the game just auto closes.

Can I change stl settings per game anywhere or how might I fix this?

Combined Arms (OpenRA) for Command & Conquer just had a huge upgrade

How important is having the latest Mesa?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 16:09

Just upgraded my PC to an RX7600 and now that it's all AMD I might end up adding a Linux partition to it.

I'm considering probably either Debian or Fedora (40 once it comes out soon), but Bullseye is still on Mesa 22. Is there going to be a noticeable difference between newer or older Mesa versions?

Having new-ish hardware is new to me so I haven't been paying a ton of attention.

Cave-diving action roguelite UnderMine 2 announced by Thorium

Gaming on Linux - 11. April 2024 - 16:00
Another interesting one from the Triple-I showcase is UnderMine 2, Thorium's follow-up to their pretty great cave-diving action roguelite and this one sounds like a good improvement over the first game.

How to use G-sync with 2 monitors on Linux Mint?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 15:06

I just upgraded my main monitor to my first VRR one and set up G-sync to work through AMD Freesync, but it only works if I diable my secondary monitor, which is just an old 1080p 60hz. I researched a bit and apparently there is something called Wayland, which may or may not fix this issue, and I currently have something called X11, in which it is impossible to do this. Is this true, and if yes, how can I change from X11 to Wayland and what exactly are they?

LukeFZ FSR3 issues with Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 15:01

I'm trying to use the latest mod with CP2077 on Proton Experimental. A couple months ago everything worked fine and it boosted my fps from 50~60 to 100~120, but now I reinstalled the game from scratch and can't get it to actually work. I'm on Arch 6.8.4, Vega 64 GPU with mesa-git. Installed it by copying nvngx, winmm etc into x64 and fsr2fsr3.asi into plugins. In the game, I'm able to turn on frame generation and DLSS but if anything FPS is actually worse than native. The mod's log doesn't seem to throw up any errors. Did Proton have an update recently that broke it? Might also be worth mentioning that I have red4ext and CET installed but those weren't an issue previously.

7 days to Die server monitoring mods

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. April 2024 - 14:41

I just put it up using LinuxGSM and it’s running on Linux Ubuntu Server. I was wanting to know what my options are for mods as far as getting information about the server i.e. zombie spawns, players in the game etc. The most I see are based on GUIs.
