The Finals + Proton Experimental (Proton 9 Beta)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 14:31

Here is a video that I have been testing for about 2 weeks already without any crashes. The video includes 2 changes (one for the sysctl.conf file, one for the video settings in game) and 3 play sessions to show no crashes (Although the hiccups are still there).

How Linux behaves on Legion 7 G7 full AMD?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 12:53

Hi, dunno if this sub is correct but i thought some of you could have this amazing machine with Fedora so i decided to write this post here. I'm interested in buying the Lenovo LEGION 7 G7 with Ryzen 9-6900HX and Radeon RX 6850M XT and i'm looking for feedbacks on how Fedora39 runs on this beast from someone who extensively use it on Linux!

I've seen some posts and seems everything is fine but they are a bit old and maybe something could have raise in between. I mostly care about fingerprint compatibility, profiles supports, audio quality, wifi, camera and graphic driver.

This would be my first premium AMD laptop so i was wondering, how does Linux supports AND graphic drivers? Are they official from AMD and open-source? Are they shipped in the most common distros? What performance they have ? Please, drop me whatever advise you feel about this topic ! Many thanks !

Steam big picture capturing controller input behind Heroic games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 12:41

This issue has been driving me nuts for a while, really hoping someone here can help!

On my gaming rig, I'm using popOS, and run most games through Steam big picture - which all works pretty flawlessly.

But I've got a few games in other libraries, and currently I'm playing through The Witcher 3 from my GOG library - installed via the Heroic game launcher.

I've added the game to Steam using the built-in function in Heroic, which works fairly well - I can launch the game from Steam BP without any problems. But the issue I'm getting in-game is that Steam BP is reading the controller input from the game. So for example, when I scroll up and down in the game menu, I can hear the Steam UI sounds playing behind the game. Sometimes it will even attempt to launch other games through Steam, depending on what controller input it picks up.

I'm struggling to find anything online as it seems quite a specific issue, anyone else had this/got any suggestions?

Where is Johnny - Dev Log

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 12:24

Hello,

Today I reviewed the dialogues between the main character and the 3 “super” enemies, updated the minimap for greater readability.

Added a new technique the “huricane kick”.

A good part of optimization. Before, the more we advanced in the map, the more objects and memories we had. With 2-3 well-placed threads, memory is better managed and I have also stabilized the FPS, I no longer have big drops and lags.

The rest will mainly be done with blender, I will add projection animations, I need 3.

Good game

Battlefield V now broken on Steam Deck / Linux with EA anticheat live

Gaming on Linux - 04. April 2024 - 12:02
That's all folks. EA anticheat has now been added into Battlefield V, so it's the end of being able to play it on Steam Deck and other Linux systems.

How to run MangoHud in a Steam game with a second Launcher

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 09:37

I'm trying to see what my FPS is in Bioschock Remastered. Usually, this wouldn't be a problem. I just type in mangohud %command% and it's right there. However this game has to launch the 2K games launcher first, and mangohud appears on screen for the launcher, but once the game is launched through the seperate launcher it disappears. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this?

Keyboard not working for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 08:11

Hello!

I just tried RCT3 for linux mint (with steam as it's launcher) and I'm having an issue with the keyboard, it's not detecting any inputs at all (except when writing the ride names), I tried both versions: RCT3 Complete and RCT3 platinum, I tried all versions of proton (including GE), tried uninstalling and installing back, tried disconnecting every other controller, removed the steam input options, looked online but only like 3 people published about this issue as far as I could find (and they didn't get a solution), is there anyone who has experimented the same thing and a possible solution?

Please, lmk...

Thanks..

Edit: The keyboard does work if I run the game with wine but the music doesn't...

LTS-zen kernel

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 07:08

I can't be the only one who has thought of this. It would be nice to have the linux-zen kernel that is based on LTS instead of stable. For the performance tweaks/patches that come with zen kernel, but updated less frequently. Does such a kernel exist already, preferably pre-packaged on a distro where I wouldn't have to patch the kernel myself? If not, is this (to apply zen patches to the current LTS) difficult to accomplish?

Has anyone been having issues with Heroic Games Launcher after its last update?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 05:08

Whenever I try to launch Midnight Suns (Epic Games Version), it crashes. Are there any fixes for this? I’ve tried multiple wine and proton versions, but with no luck

Couple Questions

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 02:39

I am getting so irritated with windows 11 I am seriously considering removing and switching to Linux. Couple issues I have is with that pc I use a lot for gaming with steam and I have a nvidia gpu with an amd processor, I know at least the gpu may complicate it some. I only have a little experience with Ubuntu that I put on an old laptop years ago, nothing recent. Please bear with me I know this group probably gets asked for tutorials a lot and I did read the faq's. I'm still undecided on distro but mint seems fairly simple maybe leaning that way. Any advice or pointers that may help? Also if there is a good easy to follow step by step out there I could use that as well. Thank you all and sorry again if this is redundant with a lot of questions you get.

Am I the only one that is so close to switching to Linux but those few Linux unsupported games are holding me back

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 01:06

I am (sadly) using Windows 11, and while I like the modern UI, I hate everything else about it: bugs, glitches, forcing AI into my system and most importantly telemetry and data harvesting.

I want to switch to Linux so bad and I have experience with it because I had Arch on my old laptop before, but for some, to me unknown reason, game companies hate Linux and don't add support for Wine/Proton. I absolutely love Rainbow 6 Siege, Warzone and sometimes even like to boot up Fortnite to play with friends, but of course they don't support Linux.

If only Fortnite was not supported but R6 and WZ were, I would immediately switch to Linux. If WZ was not supported, but R6 was, I would hesitate a bit since I don't play WZ that much but would still like to play it. Sadly, R6S is what's keeping me back as I really love the game and I don't want to hassle with dual booting or virtualizing.

Anyone else not switching to Linux yet because of your favorite but Linux-unsupported games?

Best OS for a thin client pc?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 04. April 2024 - 00:21

I've recently acquired a Dell Wyse 5070

Wanted some advice on which OS to go for, I have an old m.2 sata ssd I plan to use it with

I was thinking of going with lubuntu but wasn't sure if that would create too much overhead on the little machine

My use case will just be old games, nes, snes, gameboy ect and hoping to play ps1 and n64 too

I'm aware of batocera but also wanted to be able to install some of my gog games onto this machine so would prefer something with a desktop gui

Any other advice as well would be very appreciated

Thanks, much love
