How to make Dualsense haptics/rtiggers work with GoW:Ragnarok on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 20:31

I've recently switched to Fedora 42 from Windows, and I general I really enjoy gaming on it. Only gripe at the moment is the fact that dualsenses haptic feedback/ adaptive triggers does not work with God of Wat game I;m currently playing.

Funny thing is - those features work on other games I've tried while troubleshooting the issue (Cyberpunk and Spider-Man Miles Morales), so I presume not everyting is my fault here.

Some people have confirmed that haptic feedback works on their end, so I dont know what might the issue here.

What I've tried so far

  • I've used latest Proton-GE and Experimental (Proton GE works with cyberpunk and spiderman, users on protonDB suggested Experimental)

  • I've downloaded steam-devices from repos

  • I've installed game-devices-udev rules, bacause i saw that tip in one of the reddit threads

  • Of course, I disable Steam Imput while trying to use thosew features

For some reason only GoW:Ragnarok seem to have problems with it. Do you know how to resolve this issue?

Specs:

Fedora 42

CPU: 5700x3D

GPU: 9070XT

RAM 32GB

Mesa version 25.2.1 - latest stable from trixieua repo

Terrible proton performances on my system

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 20:13

Hi guys!

I just joined linux gang and installed Nobara on my personal computer, but I am having terrible performances on games - simple lags on things like Factorio and Oxygen not included, or really crappy experience on Age of Empire 4.

To really have numbers on what's going on I ran the superposition benchmark on both Nobara and Proton.

The results are the following: 100FPS on Nobara/OpenGL, 90 on Proton/OpenGL, 34 on Proton/DirectX. On top of that the shadows were really blocky on DirectX.

My issue is the drop between OpenGL and DirectX.

I really have no clue on how to troubleshoot this, does anyone have pointers?

Thanks Guys!

Battlebit Issue - Launches fine but has sticky key issues.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 20:11

Linux Mint

Proton hotfix

Battlebit launches and plays really well except that multiple times throughout a match the character won't stop moving. For example the 'A' key gets stuck on and my character keeps moving left. Or perhaps the 'W' key locks on. Sometimes I can go prone or something and this unlocks it and it will stay good for 5 minutes or so and then happens again randomly.

I have dual boot so when I boot into windows 11 and play this game on the same machine I have no issues. There doesn't seem to be any other keyboard problems in Linux or Windows so I really don't believe this is a hardware issue.

Any suggestions?

Little nuisances with steam games (via wine / proton in Ubuntu 24.04.3)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 18:56

Hello everyone,

I started to use Steam on my Ubuntu 24.04.3, it works fine but it has some little nuisances.

  1. the window appearence (of wine I guess) looks every old, how could i fix that?
  2. sometimes, when I close the game, the application gets closed but its still running in steam.
  3. the icon in my taskbar is the typical "gear"-Icon can I easily change it in the .desktop file?

Steam Version: 1751405894
Proton Experimental, Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (Sniper) -> auto downloaded from Steam

Picture for reference:

Wine Window

Thx

Ditching Windows but never tried Linux. A few Questions :)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 18:35

Hello,

Now that Win11 is forcing copilot spyware its time to ditch windows. However, I've never used linux so I would like to ask for some advice on what would best fit my needs.

I use my PC for gaming, to edit astrophotography pictures I take (a hobby), internet browsing and running local LLM's for creative writing (koboldcpp/LM studio, SillyTavern) and learning AI skill stuff. I am not a programmer nor know coding.

My games are mostly on Steam. I only play elite dangerous and star citizen outside of steam.

My research leads me to Bazzite as a good newbie OS thats easy to install and impossible to screw up since its read-only. That sounds good to me but I've no clue if that will prevent me from running any of the stuff I listed above.

So, simply put, would installing Bazzite let me do all that I want/need? Im not trying to spark a 'this distro is better' debate .. this is my very first linux install so if bazzite works for what I need and its easy to install and I can't mess it up then that's what I want to use as I learn linux.

Also, another concern: Since I read that some games that use anti-cheat (like Star Citizen) wont work in linux... I wouldnt mind keeping a win11 dual boot option for when I play that game. But this has me wondering.. would copilot be able to mine my linux partition for data without me knowing if I boot into windows?

Has anyone tried Anno 117 demo on linux ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 18:05

Hey,

The demo for Anno 117 : Pax Romana released today and will be playable until the 26th.
I tried playing it on endeavour os and it just crashed at start up. Tried with Steam default Proton configuration and Proton 9.0-4.

Has anyone played it on Linux yet ? Is there a version of Proton that works.

I have to add, the game systematically runs via Ubisoft Connect ...

Lunar lake on Linux state (258V)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 17:48

I have a Hp Omnibook Ultra with the intel core ultra 7 258v Lunar lake. Windows performance is actually pretty good, but Im so tired of windows, battery efficiency is not that good and Im so used to linux on my main PC.

The problem is that here on Linux, no matter the distro my GPU wont clock to its intended 1950mhz, I usually get between 1000-1600mhz. I Tried Bazzite, Ubuntu, Manjaro and mostly Arch since is the distro Im most familiar with. This results in 15-50% less performance in gaming and 3d apps. I tried different power profiles, intel_pstate on and of, intel xe experimental, latest kernel, mesa-git, different proton and protonGE versions, different cpu-power settings, etc, etc...

So long story short I just want to know what results are other lunar lake users getting. Do you have the same issue? Could be my unit although it works good on Windows?? Im on latest bios.

Thank you

New to Linux gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 17:46

Hello friends! I come here to ask for help and your opinions on what Distro i should use.

After a long time of thinking ive decided that i finally want to ditch Windows 10 and use Linux instead. But im not exactly sure what would be the best option for me.

I play a lot of games and I do a lot of software development so I would really need something that would allow me to do both without much trouble.

For those who are interested, the languages i use in software dev are C#, Typescript and C++

The games i play the most are Minecraft & Unturned, other than these 2 the rest are just random Unity Engine games.

Edit: For those of you who are wondering, im not new to Linux, ive used Fedora and Ubuntu Servers a lot in the past for self hosting.

simpleoverlay - OpenGL performance overlay for Linux and *BSD written in C

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 17:36

Just wanted to share what I was working on recently, hopefully someone finds it useful.

simpleoverlay has basically no build-time dependencies, except for a C compiler and make (both GNU make and bmake works).

It works on Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD, but I'm planning on supporting more platforms.

Controller with the Following Specs?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 17:27

I currently use an Xbox One controller and honestly it’s been pretty good for me. Aside from a few connection drops that required reconnecting the dongle, I’ve got no complaints. After switching from Win10 to Bazzite, I’ve actually had fewer issues. I mostly just want to try something new.

I’m looking for an upgrade/alternative to the XB1 controller that checks the following boxes:

  • Replaceable Batteries (either AA or easily accessible rechargeable). This is the top consideration because I have had much more luck with replaceable batteries than rechargeable lithiums for longevity.

  • Hall Effect sticks and triggers (I just want to try them out)

  • asymmetrical stick layout (like Xbox)

  • Works OOTB wirelessly with Linux.

  • low lag

Are there any options out there for this? I like 8bitDo for retro controllers (M30, NGCD) but never tried their models with analog sticks. I also hear great things about Gulikit but they do not seem to offer replaceable batteries.

Any way to play GOW: Reloaded on linux if we only have it via gamepass?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 16:55

Hi! We have an Xbox as well as a gaming PC that my son uses (with windows 11). My son and I started the new Gears coop together (I'm on xbox, he's on the PC). But I would LOVE to redo the PC so it uses linux instead of windows.

The only problem is, I can't figure out after some searching, if it's possible to install Gears of War: Reloaded from our gamepass account so he can still play coop with me.

Does anyone know?

Need some game recommendations that can run on a potato!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. September 2025 - 16:34

Just gave my GPU to the shop to be RMA'd, and it'll be a while til i get word of what's next, probably a month, and i don't have an integrated graphics on my computer so i'm stuck with a potato laptop for the time being.

It's a Lenovo G500 (ancient, i know), with Linux Mint Cinnamon on it. Runs great for internet and youtube, but i wanna game til i wait as well.

Post your game recommendations that you think would run on this laptop, something pixelated, easy to run, no matter the genre, just so i can fire up a game and unwind for a while while i wait for them to either fix my GPU or give me a new one.

I'm not sure about the actual specs of this. Neofetch says "Intel Pentium 2020M @ 2.400 with Intel 3rd Gen Core Processor graphics" but the online specs from googling say "Intel Core i5 3120M (3rd Gen) with AMD Radeon HD8750", but in any case, it's enough to run pixelart or very light potato games.

Thanks!
