Issues downloading Netmarble Games
Hey there,
I'm new to the whole Linux Gaming to be fair.
So I just wanted to install "Mongil: Star Dive". When doing that over Heroic it prompted me with the error that I need the Epic Games Launcher installed to run the Game. After I couldn't find a solution for this I tried it via Lutris. It didn't even start the Netmarble launcher to begin with and after using the manual install over Lutris I was prompted with this error:
I am honestly clueless at this point as I cant seem to find a fix. Have any of you encountered similar issues either with Heroic or Lutris?
Thank you in advance!

Game eating Ram
specs: Arch linux, kde plasma (wayland)
Amd Ryzen9 5900X
kingston 32gb ddr4, kingston 1000gb ssd
Rtx 4060 8gb
Game i’m having problem with is overwatch launch directly via Steam with proton hotfix. It eat up 14-17gb of memory when i’m playing. Sometime even cause crash, i tried to switch to proton 9.x or ge-proton and the issue persists. Setting graphic quality to medium or low and capping fps at 100, or adding command to steam launch option also doesnt fix. On window its only like 4gb max and my other linux friend also doesnt reach the usage as high as me. I’m out of idea on how to fix it, saw some posts saying its the game issue and not linux. Need confirmation, thanking in advance

MCHOSE Mouse: Waybar Battery Module + Automatic Profile Switcher
I want to share two of my "projects", especially for those who have MCHOSE gaming peripherals.
I play a lot of FPS games like The Finals, so manually changing the mouse profile every time is annoying. I often forget about it and then realize it in-game, not to mention that when I forget to have my gaming profile turned on, the battery drains really quickly.
MCHOSEWaybarBattery : Displays battery percentage and mouse name and displays it on Waybar.
MCHOSEProfileSelector : Allows you to activate a mouse gaming profile when you launch a Steam game and sets it to a conservative profile when you close it.
They are certainly not the best solutions in the world, but they do the dirty work they need to.
I hope they can be useful to you!
Thank you for your attention and I wish you a good game 😊

Invite players and accept invites without Xbox Game Bar?
I want to play Sea of Thieves, and I usually do so with random players from the Discord. On Windows, I needed to use Xbox Game Bar to invite players without adding them as friends or to accept any invites. On Linux, I need to add them as a friend to invite them, and cannot accept invites at all.
Is there a way around this?
Fedora 43, Wayland, running the game though Steam.

GSP heartbeat timeout still causing hard freezes after suspend on 590 drivers? (RTX 3080)
I'm running the 595.58.03 Nvidia driver on kernel 6.19.12-1-cachyos, KDE Plasma/Wayland
Was playing a Minecraft modpack yesterday and out of nowhere my whole system completely froze and had to force power it off, I looked in the kernel logs and saw it was something related to the GSP firmware after it woke from sleep.
I know nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0 was the workaround, and someone previously asked about it in this post but this was for 555 drivers.
Is GSP STILL an issue on the 590 drivers????

Steam games freezing
Hi guys,
I've been having the issue of some games on steam freezing after a few seconds. They launch normally and then suddently they freeze. A lot of those are old games that I've been able to play with no issues when I still was using windows so the hardware requirements shouldn't be the issue.
I can't tell what the commone denominator is between the games that work with no issues and those that just freeze.
I'm unsing Linux mint.
I'm not well-versed in tech, so please be kind <3

Cyberpunk 2077 Performance Issues
Hey! have been enjoying using Linux so far(apart from rookie errors and some weird bugs that I don't have the energy to deal with), however with games, it has been complicated. One of the games I was obsessed with was Cyberpunk, however I had to rely on Windows for now to play it, even if the game is rated "Gold" on ProtonDB. I would like some help with troubleshooting my issue.
My configuration is a
- Lenovo Legion 5 Pro (2021) with a Ryzen 7 Processor,
- NVIDIA RTX 3060 DGPU with 6 GB of VRAM
- Operating System: EndeavorOS with the zen kernel
- RAM: 24GB DDR4
- Game seems to never go above 50-60 FPS, even with the settings turned to the lowest possible, and the frame limit/v sync turned off.
- Weirdly, the menus run as expected. The cursor movement indicates the right refresh rate.
- On mangoHUD it's the same thing. It never displays higher frame-rate.
- FrameGen makes no difference whatsoever. While the FPS is higher, the presented frames never feel like the smoothness expected from 100-120 FPS.
- DLSS results in black splotches everywhere.
- Changing to different versions of Proton. So far, Hotfix and the latest version of GE-Proton gives best performance and stability.
- Switched to X11, and still the issue remains
- Even created a partition to boot into CachyOS, still the same issue but I had expected it.
- Increased powerlimits on the dGPU, still no dice.
- Used params like PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND or NTSYNC.
If you need more details, I will provide it in the comments.
Especially with the dGPU, I was having performance issues that I believed wouldn't be there.

Building an open-source matchmaking platform for CS:GO — looking for contributors
hey, i have 3.7k hours in cs:go and cs2 matchmaking is honestly terrible. so ive been building an open-source alternative in my free time.
what im working on:
- lobbies, friends, messaging
- competitive and wingman matchmaking with ranking
- 128 tick servers
- server-side anti-cheat
- desktop and web clients
everything will be fully open source. no company behind it, no paywall, just a side project from a devops engineer who wants better matchmaking.
the hard part is infrastructure — multi-region 128 tick servers arent cheap. if this gets traction id love help with contributions, testing, and eventually donations to keep servers running (like how blender and other open source projects do it).
still in progress. if theres interest ill share the repo and a roadmap.
would you actually use something like this?

One of the EmuDeck devs made a Playnix Console that runs PlaynixOS - their own custom Arch Linux-based distribution
MHWilds finally works on my system!
tldr: Valve's VRAM optimizations made MHWilds, a reason I kept win11 as a secondary boot, work on Linux.
PC's specs:
Ryzen 5 5500
Intel Arc A750
16GB DDR4 3200Mhz RAM
Sata SSD windows boot (Win11)
M.2 SSD linux boot (CachyOS)
NTFS HDD for storage
I'm by no means a Linux expert, I just like playing games and tinkering with things to make them run games. Stuff like installing RetroArch on my phone and RetroPie on my Raspberry Pi.
Ever since Win10's EoL on October last year, I've been playing around with Mint Cinnamon on an old Laptop that doesn't meet the reqs for Win11. I liked it, so I ended up dual-booting Mint and Win11 on my home computer.
Before, MHWilds would never work on my Linux boot. It would always crash when loading into the game, after choosing a save file.
Tried many things like changing Proton versions, launch options, changing Intel drivers from i915 to xe, etc. but they never worked. I assumed that it was RAM/VRAM issues and the fact that I'm running Intel's ARC GPU.
It's the reason I kept Windows 11. I Had Issues trying to run games like CP2077, Death Stranding Director's cut, and MHWilds on Linux.
CP2077 worked when switching from Mint to CachyOS (I don't really know what caused it to work). And in Death Stranding, textures wouldn't load, which was fixed a while back with a Proton update.
With Valve's VRAM optimizations (https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/s/92U3KU3txi) the last game I play that doesn't work on Linux has finally worked. Made this post just because how happy I am!

Is it this bad on desktop as well?
This is an Asus ROG STRIX g15 AE with 32gb of 3200mhz DDR4, a Ryzen 9 5900HX, an RX 6800m with 12gb of VRAM that can draw up to 170w and a beautiful 1440p 99% DCI-P screen that runs at 165hz.
I hate it.
I've bought this laptop in rather desolate condition for 500€ with almost leaking LM, a destroyed display and you can see the keyboard for yourself after having run Linux mint on a ThinkPad for a year, trying to do the same with an NVIDIA legion that I couldn't get to boost because it's apparently tied to a windows-only app and when I saw this thing, I thought all my prayers were answered.
even with the AMD GPU, my experience for the past 4 months was horrible. among other things:
Due to the switching system in the laptop, everything gets passed through the IGPU, which makes Linux drivers (as far as I understand) see the whole thing as one "supergpu" (device name). no matter what I have tried, it refuses to use the dgpu for anything related to OpenGL. everything runs on the IGPU, and the dgpu cannot be directly forced to work. this is somehow even a problem on the dedicated dgpu video output.
LACT does nothing. the dgpu is utterly ignorant of power limits set by it. overclocks apply, but are near useless doe to a number factors discussed below.
the whole laptop is also oblivious as to the existence of its own fans, running them at up to 50% RPM, which leads to horrible overheating. lm_sensors couldn't even detect the fans, let alone control them. this is likely asus' fault as the fans don't even show up in bios.
the GPU cannot be parked, constantly taking at least 10w even in power saving mode.
in Ultrakill in particular, the GPU doesn't boost past 500mhz, no matter the graphics API used. Through mint, Bazzite (yes the correct AMD version for Asus laptops) and regular Fedora, latest mesa including radeonSI and radv nothing made a meaningful difference.
I'm planning to move back to desktop, soo I just want to know if you guys are dealing with anything similar. Gaming laptops are notorious for weird shit, even on windows, with manufacturers' focus, so I imagine they are a nightmare scenario for Linux in general because a lot of the software that's supposed to control them just doesn't exist.
no way in hell am I going back to windows after using KDE for work yo I just want to know if I should forsake gaming completely

How to properly set up Sonic '06 Mod Manager on Fedora KDE Linux
Hey yall, wanna see if this is possible:
I had a grand ole time figuring out how to start the process, and I finally figured out how. So, I know Sonic 06 is a good ole tomato throwing worthy game, but I wanted to get the Legacy of Solaris mod working on Xenia emulator because I'm going through most of the mainline Sonic games. The only problem I have now, after getting '06 mod manager working and setting all of my file directories, is I get some sort of unhandled exception error. Are there any clear guides or advice for getting the mod manager and emulator working? I got the mod manager to work using proton, so that's no issue. Basically, I set my game exe directory, my xenia exe directory, and my mod folder directory, but after I try to go forward, I get an error there.
I'm on Fedora 43 with the cachyOS kernal.
Running with a Radeon RX 9070XT and a Ryzen 7 3800XT and 32 Gigs of DDR4 ram.
Any referrals to a good setup guide would be appreciated because I can't find any documentation on it. Otherwise, I'm just going to troubleshoot a bit more before giving up and just playing Project 06.
I'll post a photo of the error later. I tried to replicate it on Windows 11 but it worked fine.......because of course it did. I may try to re-extract the ISO but I wanna see if any of yall have experience with setting this up on Linux.
Thanks in advance.

I made my game run on Linux
Hi! :)
So, long story short, I'm working on a game prototype, and a few people have asked me if it runs on Linux. I've been coding in C++ for many years but always for Windows, Linux is a total mystery to me.
However, since I'm making my own engine (using Vulkan), I thought it would be a good idea to make it portable. I added GLFW as the abstraction layer and built it for Linux using GitHub Actions... and it worked!
I still don't know much about the specifics of all the different distros or what might be broken on Linux within my code, so if you'd like to test my game and tell me if it runs, that would be greatly appreciated.
This is just an early prototype, so don't expect a full game experience yet, but if you want to share ideas about the core design, those would be welcome as well :)
The game can be found here: https://magistairs.itch.io/orbis
