Need help with Linux distro for gaming on laptop with integrated graphics.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 11:50

Hi, I know there must be a lot of posts asking about "the best Linux distro for gaming," but I've been watching some videos about it, and there are still so many options. I'm interested in trying a distribution that's good for gaming and also good for normal use, since Windows 11 won't last forever, and I'll have to abandon it eventually while I look for alternatives. My main priority is gaming, followed by normal use.

These are my laptop specs (I don't know if this should be taken into account when looking for my Linux distro):

Lenovo Ideapad 3 15ITL6 Laptop

- Intel Core i5-1135G7 2.4Ghz

- 20GB DDR4 RAM (4GB soldered 3200MHz + 16GB 2667MHz)

- Intel Iris Xe Graphics

For gaming, I like to use both MNK and a gamepad.

Well that's all, I'd like to know which Linux distros would be best for gaming on a laptop with integrated graphics.

Bazzite on AM4 vs 750 Ti

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 08:50

I am considering to install this thing on my secondary PC but I have only a 750 Ti (or GT 530 which is even older). The download page says Steam is not supported with it, is that really true? I mainly want to see if I can get old games like BF3, DFBHD, AOEII or CoD4 to run under Linux. If these worked, I would migrate my laptop to Linux. The alternative would be "CachyOS", one I also hear often about.

Thinking about genshin for the lulz

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 08:11

So i had been doing only steam or heoric launcher gaming but half tempted to try out genshin or a mmo for something different.

Genshin i technically could via heoric /epic games. How picky are mmos about linux? I know most probably dont have native. Just a thought about that genre of gaming as I'm new to linux.

5800 xt , 32gb ddr4 and gtx 1070 work horse poor gpu.

I'm going crazy

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 07:31

Every 5 seconds, i get a lag spike that pauses my mouse activity, my keyboard activity and i cant figure out whats causing it!

Idk if I got it properly here - https://youtu.be/aLzbJIAN-Sg
Definitely noticeable here - https://youtu.be/UlmtFtu017o

I dont think its related to hyprland as it was occurring when i launched into Steam Big Picture Mode through the login manager (with Gamescope as its compositor)

running Ryzen 7 9800x3d and 5070Ti on the Linux 6.17.3-zen2-1-zen kernel.

Discord becomes active window when i press the "back" mouse button

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 07:14

I tried both Discord and Vesktop, both of them sometimes during a game when i press the mouse side button that is binded to "back" (the one that when you are in a browser goes back 1 page) it focuses the discord app and brings me out of the game. This is easily fixed by restarting discord but it keeps happening when i restart the computer.

Anyone else has this issue? Im on KDE latest version (bazzite KDE)

Gamescope is so bad

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 07:09

I keep having bad experiences everytime i try out gamescope, in my latest case im running shadps4 Native bloodborne and it works perfectly but if i use gamescope with the only option enabled to force 3840x2160 and nothing else it all becomes very finicky, the game wont close until i kill Lutris from system monitor, if i just do alt f4 it freezes the application, also lsfg-vk works with gamescope but in a very bad state it doesnt feel smooth at all.

And not only shadps4, but also helldivers, hunt showdown and a few other games although they work with gamescope sometimes they wont boot at all with no error until i disable it.

Im on Bazzite KDE, AMD RX7900XT, Ryzen 5 7600, 32GB ram.

Am i the only one that is having such a bad experience with it?

Steam is hurting my brain. (ubuntu)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 05:52

So I installed steam a while back, and I did it via a .deb file because the snap version wasn't compatible with the modding tools I needed. Now, steam isn't in my list of installed apps or the desktop thing, but when I run it through the terminal, it shows up and works like normal. I tried going to the package manager, and when I tried to uninstall it, it said "no packages to remove"

This is despite the package manager having an option to "open" steam, which worked. Apparently I also need to get 32 bit architecture. I installed it, but idk if it worked. How do I check?

Basically what I need help with is actually installing steam, and uninstalling this weird install of steam, and maybe somebody could explain how my woes came to be.

Need help with capturing my desktop feed for streaming on my MacBook

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 05:36

Hey, so I’m still pretty new to Linux as a whole, but I would love it if I could get some help solving this predicament;

My desktop is running Linux Mint, and I want to use a capture card to stream my feed to my MacBook. The capture card that I currently have is the Razer Ripsaw HD that I got from facebook marketplace a few years ago, however after hooking it up to my pc’s monitor and the back of the pc itself, the capture screen on the MacBook is still blank. OBS is reading the card, and so is my desktop in the display settings, but no video is being shown.

Is there a workaround for this? If not, what would be the suggested replacement capture card? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Considering Moving to Linux - Importing my Steam Library Over?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 03:21

Hello Linux enthusiasts.

With Windows 10 support ending last week I'm starting to think it's time to jump off the Windows boat for my home computing needs. I have some experience with Linux on my laptops, but I've never formally installed it on my desktop before (uses an AMD processor and Geforce RTX 3060 GPU). I'm leaning towards Linux Mint for this application.

It's seems feasible now given the progress Steam has made and all of my PC games are exclusively on Steam.

My main question, which is why I am reaching out to all of you. I have my computer set up so that the OS is installed on an NVMe SSD and I have a larger SATA SSD that I use for games and bigger files. In preparation for what I'm doing I've also backed up key files (documents, pictures, etc.) onto that SSD as well. Would it be possible for me to somehow get Linux installed/running in my NVMe SSD and then somehow import my Steam library over without having to fully wipe my SATA SSD? I would like to avoid reinstalling everything if that is possible.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone with a 5000-series NVIDIA GPU able to get 144hz VRR + HDR signal out via HDMI 2.1?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. Oktober 2025 - 01:34

I am on the verge of dual booting alongside windows again on my main gaming desktop because I have the itch to get away from windows, but the difficulty in achieving this is what stopped me last time.

My desktop is connected directly to my OLED TV which features 144hz/VRR.

I’m using a 5080.

If anyone has it working, would love to know what distro you are on and what other steps you had to take.

Ask me a question, I have a very weak PC. It is an Intel Core 2 duo, 8GB of RAM and 250GB SSD. I currently use Linux mint Cinnamon, is it worth switching to FydeOs?
