Zenless Zone Zero modding on Linux Mint performance issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 21:59

hey all,
So, I've been using linux mint for a while now, and I truly love it. However, I've had some issues with performance when it comes to playing Zenless Zone Zero on Linux.

I launch the game via steam, no mods, and the game runs really well. However, when I open the game (with mods) via lutris, all of a sudden I experience really bad performance issues. Would anyone happen to have a fix for this?? I tried adding the modded ZZZ to steam via lutris, but the game doesn't launch when I click the thing Lutris added (after I click the "add to steam" button thingy).

Hope for HDMI2.1?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 21:50

Am I getting too overexcited by this or does it really seem like we have hope for HDMI2.1 on Linux? Could really up the game of the bazzite-boxes, steam-machines and chimera-consoles if this does pan out 🤞🏻

Controller as mouse

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 20:44

So, when I want to use my controller as a mouse in game via Steam Input, in KDE Plasma i get a popup to confirm that I want steam to control mouse input, which is fine. However, in Hyprland I do not get any popup or notif to confirm, and so I cant use my gamepad as a mouse. Any fixes for that?

Steam overlay shows 0% GPU utilization and 0 VRAM used on Ubuntu

Switched to 595.58.03 a couple of days ago and now noticed this problem with the Steam perf overlay. Same happened to me with the previous driver revision, but that time I had an obvious error in the driver stack - different driver versions were colliding and breaking the reporting. This time everything seems to be in order. Any suggestions? Anybody sees the same? TYIA.

steam (accidentally?) pushing age verification on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 20:24

When updating my computer yesterday (arch btw) I noticed that xdg-desktop-portal was being fresh installed without my explicitly telling it to.

The dependency chain is:

xdg-desktop-portal -> xdg-desktop-portal-gtk -> gtk4 -> libaswiata/zenity -> steam (and blender)

When researching why this dependency was added I came across this site keeping track of linux distros responses to new age verification laws, which mentioned this git pull request for xdg-desktop-portal about adding age verification related stuff.

I'm not sure if this is actually connected but I just thought I'd let people know that Steam may be the reason your distro starts spying on your age in the future. Hopefully this is a correctable mistake/accident or that I'm just being paranoid.

This is your regular reminder to read Ur-Fascism by Umberto Eco (sorry if that's considered to political)

Stay safe and have a nice day

Does Proton sandbox games to the WINE prefix by default?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 20:12

I might be missing something here, but since WINE translates all Windows filesystem instructions to Linux ones, it seems logical that WINE inherently has the ability to sandbox filesystem access to just the WINE prefix's virtual Windows filesystem. I know that's the case when you run apps in Bottles, at least. Is that the case when you run Windows games via Proton on Steam as well? Or does Steam give those apps full filesystem access if you're not using the flatpak? Sorry if I'm missing something. Thanks in advance!

Help us get official Delta Force support on Linux Desktop

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 19:17

Hey everyone,

As most of you know, Delta Force runs great on the Steam Deck, which means the engine and Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE) are already Proton-compatible. However, those of us on desktop distros like Fedora or Mint are still being blocked by the anti-cheat.

I’ve started a petition to show Team Jade that there is a huge, dedicated community on Linux Desktop ready to support the game if they just open the "whitelist" for us. Since the heavy lifting is already done for the Deck, we’re just 10% away from full support.

Is there a way to automate proton/lutris/whatever is needed to make games work? I don't want to messa round with settings I just want to install the game and go (via GOG or Steam)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 19:11

I want to minimize configuring anything where possible, is there an automatic way to make games just launch in Bazzite or Fedora 44?

FFXIV crashes if controller is connected

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 18:56

FFXIV always crashes when I start it up if a controller is plugged in on Linux. Any fix for this? If it matters I use XIVLauncher, but it crashes even with the default launcher too. Claude told me to use SDL_JOYSTICK_DISABLE_UDEV=1 %command% but that didn´t fix it with XIVLauncher at least, though maybe base client will work now? Haven´t gotten a chance to test, but I´d like it to work with XIVLauncher.

I spent years making a dungeon-crawler with a dedicated pee button, inspired by the 1980 Unix classic Rogue!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 18:52

Hope folks don't mind the little self-promo for my studio's first game Monster Lily.

I found it odd that in dungeon crawlers you spend hours in a dark dungeon but never have to pee, so I decided to fix that! I had started off coding a small roguelike prototype eons ago, and it just kept growing and refining. It eventually turned into quite a unique and mechanically-rich production (with music & full sfx direction even), just released as commercial.

I did want to talk a bit about challenges I ran into with supporting multi-OS, or dare I say lack of challenges...because there really weren't that many even though I was doing this without the support of one of the major multi-platform engines. Although I did use TCOD which uses SDL under the hood.

Note the game was developed primarily on Linux first so that obviously biases things...

  1. Spent some hours tracking down and fixing a window issue in Gnome that wasn't a problem on Wayland. Essentially related to this.
  2. Fork vs spawn in Linux, whereas Windows exclusively uses spawn. I'll spare the details but this was a surprise on the Windows side of things. It was actually a pain to fix things on Windows.
  3. Difficulty finding containers pre-packaged with needed dependencies running anything older than Ubuntu 22.04. For now I have to list my Ubuntu 22.04 as my "minimum" spec.

And that's all there was to it! The biggest issue honestly is really just needing to smoke test both versions on every release. Surprisingly sound (like buffering size) didn't need any changes across platforms. My hunch is that the lack of native support in a lot of smaller indie studios is simply due to lack of inertia or just not having a Linux OS installed.

Help what linux distro gaming to use for RTX 3050 laptop

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. Mai 2026 - 18:46

I am tired of windows now, and I am ready for a change.

I did my research and all but I kept on seeing like

-nvidia is not ready for linux,
-you will decrease your performance if nvidia like 20%-30% (but vice versa it increased performance)
-driver is not up to date
-it will cause random crashes

I've already owned a steam deck as I've dabbled around it already, used it as a usual desktop use, gaming and etc. Thats why I am interested in Linux after discovering Steam Deck runs Linux (took me a while to know but here I am now)

Theres Bazzite and Nobara that I've read in some subreddits, that those two are for gaming and can somewhat function as a everyday use desktop experience.

The games that I usually play are Gacha Games like Wuthering Waves, Neverness to Everness, Stella Sora (which are installed in my Steam Deck also)

and some games like Stellar Blade, Elden Ring, and other souls games. (same in my steam deck)

This thing was working completely fine 11 hours ago. I am running an ICARUS dedicated server in a docker on Linux Mint. I've updated everything, tried upgrading it all; says I have the current versions. The internet on the linux box works fine. I've rebooted the router. I'm at a loss here...
