Minecraft FPS Issues on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 16:19

Hello everyone,
I’m running CachyOS with KDE Plasma (Wayland) on a Ryzen 5700X3D and Radeon 7800XT.

Most games on Proton run fine, sometimes even better than on Windows. But Minecraft, the game that should benefit the most, runs poorly.

With Sodium, it goes from 30 fps to 400 fps on Linux, but on Windows I get around 900 fps with Sodium and 200 fps without. Using VulkanMod, which switches to Vulkan, I see ~1500 fps on Linux versus ~1000 fps on Windows.

400 fps isn’t bad, but with shaders it’s still worse than Windows. Is poor OpenGL performance normal on Linux, or did I mess up the drivers? I’ve tried both Mesa and Mesa-git.

How do you properly configure ray tracing on linux with nvidia?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 16:15

I dont play many games that have ray tracing, and most games work OOTB in my experience, but my performance tanks whenever I try to enable ray tracing in Control. Like from 60+ fps to a solid 2 fps.

I've already beat Control, so its not a big deal if it just straight-up doesnt work. I just switch to linux as my primary OS a little over a month ago, and I'm just taking steps to distance myself further from windows. It's not a major issue if it doesnt work, i've already beat Control lol; I'm just asking in case another game releases some time down the line and I want to enable it.

My current configuration is:
- Fedora 42 Workstation (Wayland)
- GE-Proton-10.11
- Nvidia RTX 3070ti

Installing World of Warships

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 15:56

So I have tried to install World of Warships through Lutris, and it doesn't seem to complete the install on it's end. I installed the launcher, downloaded the game and am able to play it, but it won't exit the install script from Lutris and if I click abort it deletes everything. I have the errors shown above, but I'm not able to find anything helpful online.

How is the 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C Wired?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 15:11

I have some questions about this controller. I use Debian 13 BTW. I have not used a controller in like 10 years and never used one on pc so I am a complete noob when it comes to controllers.

I am looking to play some old lego games like lego city undercover which have horrible keyboard support. I am going to add these games to steam as a non steam game or ran in bottles (definitely not forced free licensed "open source" software).

  1. I am assuming it works with normal steam, is that correct?
  2. Does it work with the flatpak version of steam?
  3. Does it work in flatpak bottles out of the box? If not is it possible to get it to work?
  4. Anything else I should be aware of as a controller noob?

OpenRGB (could not connect to display :0)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 14:56

Hello to all the community!

So, I come here because I have a problem, I'm trying to adjust the RGB on my config. So I installed the experimental version from the official OpenRGB website (appimage). I can run it without sudo but it only displays and controls the RGB of the graphics card (3080FE). So I wanted to run it using sudo and I got this error (see photo). I try Do a grep | display as you can see in the photo and everything looks correct so I don't understand lol. I tried with the pacman version before it did the same so it's not a problem linked to the Appimage. The other applications work well, I use Steam, LM-Studio, Librewolf, I have never had this problem...

Here are my specifications:

Case: BeQuiet! Light Base 900DX

Motherboard: Aorus B850 Elite Ice

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7700

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founder Edition

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast RGB (32GB) - 16x2

SSD: SK-Hynix Platinium P41 (1TB)

CPU cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360mm

Fan :

Arctic P12 120mm (HIGH - AIO)

Phanteks P30 140mm Reverse Blade (Side and Bottom)

Phanteks P30 140mm Regular (Rear)

Power supply: Lian-li Edge 850W Platinum

Screen: HyperX Armada 27" (165Hz - 1440p)

Keyboard: Rog Azoth Moonlight

Mouse: Roccat Kone Aimo Remastered

I would like to control the RGB without having to download Windows or access the bios (it doesn't have the option anyway apparently). I also want the RGB music visualizer because it looks cool. But my first objective is that it detects all my RGB devices including my motherboard... (I hope very much because I know that with Gigabyte it's hard)... Afterwards I saw no one talking about my motherboard with OpenRGB so I don't know if it works or not (even experimental)... But already I would like to be able to start OpenRGB in Root to test (hoping not to damage my hardware because it scares all the stories from some people!).

Any help is appreciated, Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

I love steam and proton (not using anything else, even for epic/battle.net games)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 14:20

You know the things like steam tinker launch, Heroic Games Launcher, Lutris... I use none of them because I wanted a simple setup.

I installed battle net launcher by adding the installer to steam as a non-steam game, then I just had to re-launch the installer to launch the launcher. I was like, the games won't start right? Well, they do start without additional efforts.

I then installed epic games launcher the same way, but this time I copied the launcher to ~/Applications to tidy things a bit, removed the installed from steam and added the launcher instead.
Once again, games are working without effort.

On the internet, almost all the tutorials tells us to install one of the tool I talked about above, to use epic launcher, but I don't understand why. Steam itself is powerfull enough to use almost any windows program. I used it to install PowerISO because their native linux version was not working, for example.

I did not find ANY game that would not run on linux, that's really impressive... Sometimes you have performances troubles, but you can almost always fix them.

Thank you, steam, for making a linux game console that forced you to work on game compatibility on linux !

Seeking advice for new distro

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 14:11

Hello,

I'd like to change my distribution to something more powerful for gaming (and potentially which will not crash when I want to customize a little and because I know Mint isn't that great for gaming). I've read a few things here and there, especially the FAQ, and I'm still not sure. I can't really use gaming distros like Bazzite or Nobara since I'm a student and need development tools.

I'm attaching my configuration if it helps.

Anyway, if you have any advice or feedback, I'd be grateful. Thank you.

how do i enable gsync on bazzite?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. August 2025 - 14:00

i tried looking around for this answer but found conflicting info

i first read that gsync doesnt exist on wayland and only x11 because nvidia hasnt prioritized porting gsync to wayland yet, hence the "nvidia x server settings" being pretty barebones on wayland compared to x11

i then read somewhere else that gsync only works if you have one monitor active, regardless of whether x11 or wayland is used, but that this would be fixed in an upcoming nvidia driver? not sure what the current status of this situation is

i did some digging in the KDE settings on my own and found a setting called "adaptive sync" for my primary monitor with the options "never", "automatic", and "always". theres also a setting called "screen tearing" at the bottom of the page. i dont know why its enabled by default nor the option to allow screen tearing exists to begin with. arent we trying to mitigate screen tearing when gaming? both of these options are under "display configuration" in KDE

id appreciate a definitive answer as to how i can enable gsync here because im genuinely confused after i did my own research.

as a side note, i know blur busters recommends to enable gsync and enable vsync globally in the nvcp in windows, and im wondering if theres an equivalent setup on bazzite.

tl;dr i did my own research and got even more confused on how to enable gsync, if its even possible to begin with

I tried GE Proton 8-16 which works fine, but lacks behind the newer ones. So does anyone know what the best latest Proton is that Genshin works with?

Also someone said GE Proton 10-10 works, but sadly that didn't did I maybe do something wrong?
