Do we have any information about improvements for Steam home streaming from Linux?

27. April 2026 - 20:09

I know that Steam streaming is a well worn issue in this sub. I've tried to make it work via the Steamlink app on Nvidia Shield, but couldn't get past issues like the aspect ratio being stuck at that of my PC monitor, and both the audio and video continuing to play from the PC.

With Steam Machine due to arrive at some point, and AFAIK Steam OS is a fork of Arch, hopefully Valve will see the need to address some of these long standing issues with streaming from Linux. Has anyone read anything that suggests they're considering this?

DX12 Games do not launch on NVIDIA GPU (595 open source drivers, CachyOS) (POSSIBLY only on gaming laptops)

27. April 2026 - 19:19

Hi! I have recently joined linux gaming club! I have tested many games using heroic launcher and steam, but found that dx12 games do not work with my nvidia gpu (thus, my iGPU is forcefully utilized). I found out that the issue is particularly with vkd3d not being able to initialize nvidia gpu vulkan device on windows prefix.
But that doesn't mean that vkd3d is in fault, since I suppose that Desktop Nvidia GPUs work fine with vkd3d (dx12 games on linux) right?
The key error code in proton log: 7268.416:0148:014c:err:vkd3d-proton:vkd3d_create_vk_device: Failed to create Vulkan device, vr -3.

Do you have the same issue? (everybody with any NVIDIA gpu is welcomed).
Thanks for feedback in advance!

CS2 on Ubuntu 26.04 Nvidia VRR question

27. April 2026 - 18:47

I am considering the update on my Ubuntu desktop from 24.04.4 to 26.04. My PC specs are:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • 32.0GB Dual-Channel Corsair Vengeance @ 2399MHz (40-40-40-77)
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB

Currently on 24.04, on Counter-Strike 2, VRR doesn't really work on the native game. If I enable proton experimental VRR works, but then I cannot play on VAC secured servers. I am running official Nvidia drivers (590 I believe) and x11. I noticed that the new Ubuntu 26.04 requires all sessions to be in wayland, and added more support for VRR. I could just try it out for myself, but I would prefer not to upgrade and other things break.

Anyone tryout the new OS with the nvidia driver stack in CS2 yet?

Hep with Mouse Button Remapping

27. April 2026 - 18:38

I made the swap to CachyOS from Windows a few months back and have been loving it.

Only thing I miss is XButtonMouseControl as it allowed me to easily remap mouse keys and they'd automatically change depending on the open application.

I'm having issues finding an alternative that works for me on Linux, I tried Input Remapper but every one I try seems to re-enable and override mouse acceleration and the DPI of the mouse.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't necessarily need it to autoswap depending on the active window but it would be nice if possible.

For example, I'd like to be able to change the side mouse buttons to CTRL and SHIFT respectively for stuff like FFXIV, so they can be held down more easily.

Linux noob needs help updating Vintage story

27. April 2026 - 18:01

Hello fellow gamers. I am a recent adoptee of Linux (mint) and I am learning every day that I am not yet proficient in software. If anyone has or knows of a good tutorial, or can give me some good step by step instructions that would be so cool.

I am literally not in any way trained on using computer software, I took one coding class like 5-6 years ago and am trying to force myself to get better at it.

Is it possible to somehow enable ray tracing in Death Stranding 2?

27. April 2026 - 17:44

Is it possible to somehow enable ray tracing in Death Stranding 2 on linux?
I'm using GE Proton 34 and PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 launch option.

I know that in some games you can enable ray tracing. For example, I was able to enable it in Monster Hunter Wilds using the command /WineDetectionEnabled:False

For the fellow dovahkiins on the peguin lands, best way to run SKSE

27. April 2026 - 17:38

which proton version is better to use SKSE64? are manual installed mods safe (as of definitely not crashing on entering the game) or should I run MO2?

I usually didn't play with skse64 demanding mods (usually used only imperious, AI overhaul and se cc growables, sometimes some skill overhaul) but I wanted to play Conquest of Skyrim now and then and skse64 becomes mandatory for those.

Thank you all in advance and sorry if that kind of question ain't allowed

HLDS CS 1.6 on Raspberry 5

27. April 2026 - 17:33

Hi, I have a question. I currently have a Raspberry Pi 5 (4GB RAM) and I want to use it as a CS 1.6 server. The problem is that it has Debian 13 (Trixie) x64 installed, and it's quite difficult to get it working. I've tried several forums and even three AI tools (Copilot, Gemini, and ChatGPT). While I managed to get it working, it uses the V48 protocol (Steam), and I want to use it with V47 (non-Steam). The issue is that I need to install a mod to make it work with both protocols. After consulting with the AI, they recommended switching to Debian 12. My question is, should I install x86 (32-bit) or x64? Thanks!

PSA: Playing Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered with a DualSense

27. April 2026 - 16:57

I used to love the Legacy of Kain games back in the day, particularly Soul Reaver 1 and 2. So I was very pleasantly surprised to see that both games have been remastered and packed together on GOG.

So far, SR1 is playing much better than the original PC game. But one thing about the default controls with a DualSense is that the glyph menu is set to the controller touchpad, which is also considered a Mouse1 input. So by default when you try to open the glyph menu, you have to long-press the touchpad, which is clunky.

Thankfully, you can solve this by going into the keyboard controls and changing the Mouse1 (Or MouseL, the font doesn't make it clear) to an unused key. After doing this, the touchpad doesn't need a long press anymore and it flows much more smoothly.

Hopefully this helps a few people.

Surround sound on Linux?

27. April 2026 - 16:45

I'm using Linux [CachyOS with GNOME] since 1 week in dual boot with Win11. It's awesome, but I kind of miss surround sound. On Windows, I control my headset [Logitech G733] with the Logitech G Hub program, but since there is no support for that program on Linux, I tried using Piper. However, I can only control my mouse with it. On my headset, I can only control LEDs. So I tried EasyEffects with presets, but I only found an autoEQ that makes the sound better, but it's not my usual surround sound. Does anyone know how I can get surround sound or at least something that comes close to it?

r2modman won't launch Muck modded.

27. April 2026 - 16:26

Hello everyone, I'm trying to use r2modman to mod Muck with my brother, however, it won't work. I'm on CachyOS. I just modded Risk of Rain 2 and it worked perfectly fine with needing to tweak anything. With Muck, creating a mod profile asks me to copy a command line and paste it in the Launch Options of Muck, but when I launch muck from r2modman itself, Steam almost launches it but then immediately shuts it down 2 seconds later.

I kept trying everything I could but nothing. I also went into r2modman's help section and found another command to paste, argument, but it didn't work. Gemini AI told me to add %command% at the end of it, but it also didn't work, with and without a space. But launching it Vanilla works.

I also tried to force a Proton version and chose Proton Experimental, but nothing.

What could be the problem?

New to Linux - Having some problems with a game but I'm unsure if it's cause of Linux or the game itself

27. April 2026 - 16:17

Two weeks ago I switched to Linux and installed Bazzite on my new gaming PC. So far everything has worked great! However I’m having some issues with the game No Man’s Sky, and I’m unsure if it’s cause of Linux or if it’s the game that’s a bit wonky. I have the game on Steam and it works almost perfectly out of the box, so I haven’t switched the proton version or done any tinkering. The problems that are there are not that big and don’t really impact stuff, but it’s a bit annoying and I’d rather play without them if possible.

I’ll start with the smallest problem. When using the Restore function of the Multitool the orange overlay is very buggy and flashes a lot. However the tool still works as intended so it’s just a visual issue.

A slightly larger problem is that quest markers will sometimes show up in the wrong place. When I’m going to places like Distress Signals, Drop Pods, Trade Posts, etc, the icon for the place will disappear from the intended spot when I reach it (which I assume is intended) and then reappear at the Space Station (which I assume is NOT intended). This is also mostly a visual error and I don’t think it has impacted the game, but it’s still annoying. Something that has impacted the game is that sometimes quest markers will be slightly in the wrong place, which makes quests not trigger as intended. For example I had a quest where I should talk to pirates in a rebel Space Station. However the quest icon for the station was next to the actual space station and not on it. This meant that the quest did not properly continue since it didn’t think I was in the station. I did fix this by repeatedly flying out and back into the station, but I rather not want it to happen again and cause a quest to be uncompletable.

The biggest issues I’ve had is with multiplayer and larger quests. I play No Man’s Sky with a friend (who uses Windows), and we can’t add each other to the in-game friend list despite us both having multiplayer enabled, playing on PC and sending invites to each other. This means that we have to be in groups to see each other, which would be fine if not for the fact that we fall out of the groups at seemingly random times. Sometimes it happens cause I have poor internet, which is fine but annoying, but other times it happens even though my internet is completely good. This means we have to pause to regroup often, and can be annoying when trying to do quests or explore together.

I’m unsure if the issues I’ve had with quests are with the quests themselves or are also because of multiplayer, since I’ve only done the larger/main quests together with my friend and never alone. Some examples of problems that occur are: quests taking a while for me to update compared to my friend, quest markers not showing up, and not being able to interact with quest objectives. This hasn’t yet made any quest unobtainable or uncompleteable, but it makes us play a lot slower since we have to pause often and wait for quests to catch up.

What I’m wondering is if anyone else playing on Linux has experienced these issues? Are they because of Linux? And if so how do I fix them? Or is it just the game being kinda wonky?

I don't play with any mods. I haven't tested a lot of other games, but the ones I've tried (for example Stardew Valley and Deadlocked) have worked well. I've checked ProtonDB and I don't see anyone else with my specs having the same issues, if so they haven't reported it. My PC only has Linux, I'm not dual-booting or sharing the filesystem with Windows.
