So I'm a bit confuse on to which distro to choose, I'm currently in bazzite but considering to switch on kubuntu because of the LTS, since I will start working on cruise ships, and the internet connection is not really stable, so I might not be able to update packages, I will mostly play single player games so I will just play games casually, can you guys recommend a distro that will fit the situation that I have said?

Hi I am new to linux and I am having some issues trying to properly run evil west. So I started Evil West today on my laptop and for some reason it has these weird red lines all over the character in the pause screen and then when I got to the chapter 2 the floor was just green. Which is weird because it works just fine on my steam deck and legion Go. I'm going to assume it's an Nvidia issue, however I still do wanna play the game on linux since I use my windows partition mostly for working on stuff. I tried to force the game to run with Vulkan however it just didnt launch and gave me an error. I don't really know what else to do so I would appreciate some help please :)

I am using Bazzite 42 on a 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12500H w/ NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 laptop.

Hey. I recently got Linux booting on an older laptop by going into BIOS and using “Select an EFI file as trusted for execution” and manually choosing shimx64.efi. That workaround finally made the boot option show up.

Now I’m planning to go Linux-only on my Acer Nitro V15 (Ryzen 7 7735HS, RTX 4060) running Ubuntu. Haven’t live booted it yet, but I’m trying to prep everything in advance so I don’t run into trouble post-install. A few questions:

1. Windows Key — If I wipe the SSD and go full Linux, will the OEM Windows 11 key stay in the BIOS for future reinstalls if I ever go back?

2. NVIDIA Driver Stability — Anyone with a 4060 running Ubuntu? How’s performance in native games like War Thunder? Anything weird with drivers or GPU switching?

3. Secure Boot — After install, should I leave it disabled forever? Or is there a safe way to re-enable it?

4. Fan Behavior — I’ve heard the Nitro can act weird with fan speeds under Linux. Does it work out of the box or is extra config/tools needed?

5. Anything else to watch for? Like BIOS issues, suspend bugs, or battery drain?

Let me know if you’ve done this or have any advice. I’m trying to get everything running clean and stable.

I have a Quadro M2200. Since i've updated my drivers from 565 to 570, no matter the distribution, doom 2016 and doom eternal stopped working. They do launch, but freeze on the initial loading screen, while playing main menu music.

Doom 2016 runs ok in opengl mode, but the performance is much worse in comparison to vulkan. If i downgrade to 565 driver they will work fine. Other vulkan games and games that are running through proton+dxvk are working perfectly.

At first i saw a few reports on protondb with the same issue, so i assumed this problem is not on my side, so i decided to wait a few months to see if this issue will be resolved with driver updates.

Now i see reports on protondb from people who are utilizing 570 driver, and game works fine for them. I have tried changing the resolution and window mode via config files, other proton versions, resetting wine prefix and of course reinstalling the games, but nothing helps. Running steam from terminal gives no reports regarding errors.

Idk what to do now, my only guess is that my gpu doesn't properly support vulkan 1.4, but why do other games work then?

I have a pc with an ssd with windows on and a spinning 4tb drive with steam games on. I want to try bazzite but not commit until i’m happy with the performance. Can I swap my ssd for a new one, load bazzite on the new ssd download steam add the spinning 4tb drive as a directory and after verifying the drive will the games work or is the windows/linux format different?

no clue why this happens, it started after the latest discord update for linux that fixed the issue where i couldn't stream and now i can't even be in a call and stream at the same time.

if anyone has any fixes or knows anything lmk please, i can live with it but my friend really wants to watch me play hollow knight so i'd prefer it fixed if possible.

Occasionally I get this error after a match. Then the same error pops up when I start the game until I verify integrity of game cache where it usually downloads a file. Does anyone know what this might be and how I can fix it? It is happening more frequently lately.

The vast majority of my library simply doesn't work with Proton. I’ve tested it with Proton Experimental, Proton Hotfix, older versions, and Proton GE — not even games listed as Platinum on ProtonDB work. I managed to launch Rain World once, but it never worked again after that.

The games appear as if they’re running — the “Stop” button is active like they’re actually executing — but nothing shows up on screen. After a few minutes, they just crash completely.

All the games are stored on an external NTFS hard drive (I’ve already applied the usual fixes to make NTFS drives work properly on Linux), and native Linux games run just fine.

Hi guys, i've been using Linux Mint LMDE for about a month, everything is fine except from one little detail about CS2. I'm getting this error while i'm on mid or ct spawn, it looks like i'm on the water. I updated my GPU drivers but nothing happened. The other maps work fine. So I'm a big doom fan, and I want nothing more then to play the new game on my PC, but it doesn't work. when ever I try to launch, the game WILL launch but then it well "fail to allocate video memory" and crash the game, no driver update or proton version would fix this. And it will run on windows, sop my hardware ISN'T the issue here, these are my specs

Before I was running Kubuntu, but I count get the game to boot, so I TODAY switched to Bazzite thinking it would work "out of the box" like so many people on ProtonDB are getting it to run, but no, same error as before. No amount of googling has found me the answer, this is my last resort.

My Sims 4 in Steam doesn't seem to work at all anymore. I've tried several versions of Proton and it looks like it tries to install or update the EA Play app, but it seems like it's not working and now the game won't launch. I have ubuntu but I've heard about Bazzite being the gaming distro, could that be the solution, or if anyone has anything else I could do I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Looking to dual boot and hopefully eventually switch away from windows entirely. Tried Fedora and Ubuntu both earlier on an old laptop and Ubuntu seems like it has a wider range of easier installed packages (for example, psensor just needed one install command and I couldn’t even figure out how to install it on Fedora).

Bazzite was also a consideration for me, but I think I’d like to go with something else for a couple reasons: lack of immutability (as I gather it could become an issue) and something like Ubuntu or fedora being more “mainstream” makes me feel like it’s probably a bit closer watched and safer to use than something like Bazzite, but I have heard of Linux Mint being hacked about ten years ago, so I’m really unsure if that’s a point in Ubuntu or Fedora’s favor.

Tried posting this in the Bazzite discord but had no answer yet. Been troubleshooting an issue for a while with my desktop PC setup where the system would boot but the display cuts out at some point during the boot process, between grub and desktop.

Bazzite install worked fine but on booting into the system, display completely cuts out during boot. I am able to use the system by plugging my cable into the iGPU but get nothing from the Nvidia card. The monitor just doesn't detect the PC at all and goes into standby. Interestingly it does periodically wake itself up from standby, but still doesn't detect any connected device.

I tested booting a CachyOS install iso, which gives the choice of standard boot (presumably nouveau) or nvidia-open drivers at grub. Standard works fine, but nvidia-open gives exactly the same issue. So there is some conflict between the driver, video card and monitor.

Hi. I started to experience issues with some games played through steam. After some time of playing (approx. 30-50 minutes) the games start to stutter drastically. I am using CachyOS with KDE Plasma and have the RX 9070 XT, use the newest mesa drivers and have two monitors. The games, where I experienced the issue are:

• Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon
• Skyrim with Elysium Remastered modlist
• Yakuza 0

Games I was playing and didn't have any issues:

• Skyrim with Nordic Souls modlsit
• Europa Universalis IV (although this one was in the native version)
• Heroes of the Storm launched through steam with NonSteamLaunchers
• Warhammer 40.000: Boltgun
• Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
• Total War: Warhammer III (via proton)
• Victoria 3 (also via proton)

I tried with proton-cachyos, Proton Experimental, Proton 9.0-4 and GE-Proton10-3.

I'm currently tossing up between these two controllers:
