Steam remote play racing wheel setup - Linux Desktop to Steam Deck?

17. April 2024 - 02:49

Hi, wondering the compatibility of the Logitech G923 with the Steam Deck, I assume fine since the drivers are in the Linux Kernel correct?

As a curveball, my plan is to set the racing wheel up on my Steam Deck to use my TV and have more space , and I was wondering if I could use steam remote play to stream my desktop PC for more demanding games and still use my wheel? Specs if needed;

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
  • 32GB DDR5 C36 RAM
  • Intel Arc A770
  • Fedora 39

Does NVidia just freaking hate Linux users or something?

17. April 2024 - 02:16

Does NVidia just freaking hate Linux users or something? I still have trouble with my GPU VRam being fully recognized in games...doesn't matter which distro either, if it's not a steam/proton enable game, I can confidently place money on it NOT working properly.

Starcraft remastered doesn't see 8gb of Vram and as such, cannot use the 'realtime lighting' feature.

RAGE 2 runs like a dog, glitching and freezing every 10 seconds and then completely locking up, forcing a hard exit/reboot.

Honestly I thought we had evolved past this petty crap of holding a grudge against people who want something different for themselves, but that clearly hasn't happened.

Really thinking of ditching NVidia and going to an AMD GPU next, then my whole system will be Team Red.

Yes i use ubuntu, but why u dont?

17. April 2024 - 02:15

I have many experiences with Linux, i also did many distro hops.

I used for a long time arch with xfce and i3wm.

But now, i just installed ubuntu and it works well. (It also looks very pretty out of the box, where stock gnome fails in my opinion)

I also dont get it why so much people hate on snap. For now, Snap just works for me like Flatpak.

So here is my Question, why everyone hates on Ubuntu?

17. April 2024 - 01:52

Is it possible to play roblox on linux today? I have been researching for the past week and im not getting closer. As i understand roblox is blocking wine, but grapefruit and vineger still work, but grapefruit is gone form flathub? Also its officially un officially supported but not really. My point is i am very confused and really want roblox to work on linux as i have a few friends i play with, and i dont want to dualboot just for roblox. I dont have 2 gpus so i cant use a wm either.

I’ve been here before…

17. April 2024 - 01:27

And probably asked the same question years ago, but has Linux in general started to play nicer with AMD drivers? Mainly the AFMF (Fluid Motion) and scaling stuff at all? I saw a post on here saying Windows will start serving ads on the start menu one day and I’m just over it. I’m Linux illiterate and have mild brain damage. Learning is hard but not impossible and I look to the great minds for answers.

Please go gently into this roasting :)

ParaWorld?

17. April 2024 - 01:16

Hello, Everyone!

I have been trying to make this old, abandonware game to work in my Linux Mint for weeks now, I just tried yesterday in my windows partition and I finally made it work there (with the help of a patch called PWConnect, available in the MyAbandonware website page for Paraworld).

I have noticed online that a lot of people have this problem about the game freezing in the loading screen for both, skirmish and campaign, both in Windows and Linux, I've seen some people have sorted out this problem (but ONLY in Windows), I saw different fixes like whitelisting the game in the firewall, changing thw resolution of the game, using windowed mode, etc., but in my case I could fixed it with the patch I mentioned above.

However, the story is different in Linux: I have been trying to make it work for about 3 weeks, without success (yesterday I slept 6am trying to do so), I have tried in Lutris, Bottles, Steam and trying to install the PWConnect patch in their respective prefixes, I have used the version of MyAbandonware, a cd I have and a version of the bay, all unsuccessful, getting stuck on this loading screen no matter what I do (I even made a thread in the Lutris r/ but unfortunately no one answered).

I haven't seen anyone so far sorting out this one problem in Linux so far, I've made work every other game but this one, so, my question is: has anyone made this work? Is it worth it investing time or I just forget about this and play it in Windows? I have thought on editing the regedit now that I finally learned how to do it in both Lutris and Bottles but, would that make a difference? (and how can I know which entries to edit?)

Please, let me know...

Thanks!

After latest update, heroic doesn't seem to be working again.

17. April 2024 - 00:34

Been trying to launch Marvel's Midnight Suns (Epic Version) to no avail. Esync and Fsync are off, and I use proton-ge 7-41. Whenever I switch to wine-ge, the game crashes before entering the main menu. Weird thing is, the game works fine on desktop mode, but in gaming mode, I'm only greeted by a black screen. Any fixes for this?

Could someone provide some guidance on support for FSR/DLSS, Freesync/Gsync, HDR and multi display.

17. April 2024 - 00:30

I'll likely be upgrading my setup Q4 and was wondering how the support for these features currently stand. It sounds like Wayland may support a lot of these features, but not many distros right now currently have the best Wayland support right now and mostly run off the older x11/xOrg? Please correct any misunderstandings I have and thanks in advance!

Invalid Encoding file created whenever I try load tf2

16. April 2024 - 23:55

I was able to get tf2 running on linux mint, I wanted to reinstall mint on my laptop but now im having trouble getting tf2 to work.

Every time I try to run tf2 it will close immediately, I go to the files and see that this weird file with random symbols is created.

File name: 5JDO8:$^a (invalid encoding)

The file is completely empty and whenever I try to delete it the next time I boot up tf2 its back.

What ive tried:

  • reinstalling tf2
  • reinstalling steam then tf2,
  • removing all my custom configs
  • updating my laptop
  • rebooting laptop
  • tried this command: sudo apt-get install unifont
  • tried this command: convmv -r --notest -f windows-1255 -t UTF-8 \*
  • Verifying integrity of game files

I'm honestly not 100% sure that the file is whats causing tf2 to crash, but it does seem likely.

Does ASRock B650M PRO RS WIFI motherboard work fine on Linux?

16. April 2024 - 23:39

Does anyone here have ASRock B650M PRO RS WIFI motherboard and can confirm that everything works fine under Linux without the need to install some "awful proprietary drivers" etc.?
Especially does the network card (Realtek RTL8125BG) work fine out of the box?

Could we soon see Sora AI remakes of the greatest retro video games?

16. April 2024 - 23:28

Could we soon see AI-generated hyperrealistic remakes of classic video games? A tool like Sora could make classic games look almost like a Pixar movie. Imagine the Contra series or a Final Fantasy game with Sora's enhanced graphics and effects. You could remake Doom 1 and Final Fight with Sora to have models that look almost like real people and then incorporate them into a high-end gaming engine. New model behaviors can be generated in Sora, then imported into a modern gaming engine. They could even use a tool like Emote Portrait Live for facial motion capture.

Create the models with the help of AI, then use an engine like Unreal to accelerate the physics and lighting.

Bazzite- Noob question about partitions/storage

16. April 2024 - 22:37

Hey all, new to Linux and had a question about storage/ partitions. So I set up my lenovo legion go to dual boot windows/bazzite. I set up both with about 50/50 split of available storage so windows has about 500gb and bazzite has about 500gb. However, now that I’m using bazzite more I really like it and want to add more storage to the bazzite side so I can install more games to steam. I was able to shrink my windows partition to about 100gb with magic resizer. So how do I go about giving that extra space to bazzite?

Elden ring stopped working on arch

16. April 2024 - 21:54

I have steam (repo, not flatpack version) installed and have been playing Elden Ring on my arch system. I haven't played in a couple of weeks because of other commitments, and when I tried to turn it on last weekend, it suddenly wasn't working.

There is a brief flash of some window, but then the game turns off.

So far I tried:

  • installing the proton eac runtime on steam
  • changing glibc to glibc-eac via a pacman helper
  • changing proton versions under game preferences on steam

but it hasn't resulted in anything.

when I launch steam from the command line, I get this output:

Preferred way to run non-Steam games on Linux?

16. April 2024 - 21:17

Hey fellow Penguins :)

A little background: A historical Windows user, I have bought the significant majority of my games via Good Old Games because I support their stance on DRM and games ownership more broadly. I do also own a handful of games on Steam and Battle.net.

Having switched to Linux as my daily driver about a year ago, I'm curious about how people run their non-Steam games. (I'm not against buying a game on Steam if it isn't available elsewhere, but would like to continue supporting GOG with a purchase whenever I can, even if there is no native Linux version of Galaxy.) Specifically, what are the relative advantages of installing GOG Galaxy and Battle.net through Lutris and Steam? Is one better than the other?

And as a bonus question: what would be the most convenient way of, say, modding and playing my GOG copy of "Fallout: New Vegas" through Mod Organizer?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Switched to Linux, wondering if there’s a way to play valorant without dual booting to windows

16. April 2024 - 21:08

Im just now switching and my main games seem to not be supported (Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant) but was wondering if there was a work around so i dont have to deal with dual booting to windows. (Im completely new to Linux as a whole and am using Mint as a starter after doing research and getting help from people Via the Linux discord. Specifically Cinnamon if anyone cares btw as the idek terminology)

Just wondering if there is a work around so i can have fun on my favorite games without making myself hate my life by setting up dual booting with no experience

LGSM Valheim Server Downgrade

16. April 2024 - 21:04

Hi guys, I run a few LGSM containers for Valheim servers, and a recent update broke a couple of them. Is there a way to either downgrade one of the servers Valheim installs to a previous version, or better yet is there an option to install a previous version of the game when creating the container in the first place? I'm using the Turnkey LXC Appliances script found here https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/ to install the LXCs.

Cheers!
