Reddit Linux_Gaming

I am thoroughly impressed with the state of gaming on Linux
TLDR Windows desktop user forever, been using Mint on an old laptop for a few years and finally switched my main desktop to Mint
It just works - the only stuff I can't play is anti cheat slop which I don't want anyway, so I'm not missing anything there
I've been able to do all the normal Windows stuff I'd expect too like being able to play RDR2 without issues including modding it
I can even play PEAK with my mates and use mods
Bethesda games work as normal and I can mod them like normal
I switched because someone said "Windows is actively getting worse, whereas Linux is actually getting better" and my god were they right
I've yet to find a reason to switch back and when I have a need to do something in Windows, I can just boot up a VM and Rustdesk connect to it for a simple sandbox
I feel like every time I check a game on https://www.protondb.com/ it's gold level at a minimum
Would recommend

New launchers, Zordeer and Meganimus
Hello everyone.
I want to show you Zordeer and Meganimus, game launchers built with PyQt6.
Zordeer is a launcher for games that run via Proton, but it doesn't use umu-launcher.
Meganimus is simply a launcher that centralizes native Linux and emulator games in one place.
Both have only one file: the executable file is the code itself.
If possible, I'd like you to test them and give feedback.
I didn't create them with the intention of replacing any existing apps; I simply wanted an option that uses Qt6 and was simple and easy to use.
I released them in deb packages with Ubuntu in mind, but they can be used on other distros; all that's required are basic dependencies like PyQt6.
To run the games, Zordeer uses the same dependencies as native Steam.
Here are the Github repositories:
Zordeer: https://github.com/Kyuyrii/Zordeer
Meganimus: https://github.com/Kyuyrii/Meganimus

Nodding Games
Hey guys, I'm making the jump to Bazzite Linux and I'm mostly a noob. I'm a big fan of Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas and I absolutely love modding them. My question is if modding on Linux comes with any pitfalls, hurdles, or compatability issues I don't know about? Is there anything I need to know or is it mostly the same as modding on windows? Thanks for any help yall can send my way!
(Edit: I can't believe I messed up the title lol.)

Hey, so I have an annoying problem... When I stream anything on Discord it picks every sound source, even my virtual mic output for some reason, so anyone watching the stream can hear me twice. I can mute myself in the channel when someone is watching, but that is not viable if there are people not watching the stream. pls help

Radeon R5 M330 support for Linux
As Windows 10 is coming to it's end of life, me and my father have been considering switching to Linux on this laptop. I have used Linux on it before (in 2020), and although for everyday use, browser games and some native Linux games it ran better than Windows, I didn't have such luck with anything else.
Granted, I made the mistake for using PlayOnLinux for Wine games (I didn't know any better), but there was some natively supported games like CS:GO and CS:Source that ran a lot worse than Windows. 1080p high on CS:Source would get me like 40fps on Linux versus 100fps on Windows, while I had to play CS:GO at 640x480.
I've learnt a lot since then. My daily driver rn is a GTX 1650 Desktop, but I'm asking for you guys to share you experience if anybody is still using any Radeon 300 series GPU, and to tell what it's like now versus 5 years ago. It probably has improved a lot. Asking since I defo know this laptop has unused potential.

Linux Mint doesn't see the Thrustmaster T128X Wheel
Hi all,
i want to use my Thrustmaster T128X on linux. I already installed Oversteer (https://github.com/berarma/oversteer) and the hid_tmff2 driver (https://github.com/Kimplul/hid-tmff2). However Oversteer doesn't find any wheel and Steam Input find the wheel as "Generic Xbox Controller" so, Steam Input, don't recognize some buttons like the brake. Obvioulsly any game can't use the wheel.
If i do lsusb on terminal the wheel is find as "Bus 001 Device 009: ID 044f:b69c ThrustMaster, Inc. Thrustmaster T128X GIP Racing Wheel".
Someone as idea how to solve?
Thanks in advice for any help.

Steam not recognizing external hard drive and the games installed on it.
Hello guys. I am using Ubuntu 25.04. What I am going to write is a little bit mucb to arap your head around, so allow me to break it down into points.
- I use Heroic Games Launcher for GOG games and Steam for Steam games.
- I own an external 1TB HDD that used to be in my laptop. I use it for older games like GTA IV that are fine without an SSD.
- I have had problems with this drive for reasons unknown to me. Whenever I set it to auto-mount on system boot, Heroic Games Launcher would straight up not recognize the games I had installed on this HDD. Setting it to NOT auto-mount and instead mounting it manually every time I launch my PC has helped.
- However, I have realized that I have a problem with Steam. Previously, I had assumed that I must have uninstalled those games. However, I do have several Steam games on this drive (like GTA IV, MGSV) that are not being recognized by Steam.
- What's more is that the drive itself doesn't seem to be recognized my Steam? Whever I got into Setting > Storage and click "Add Drive", nothing happens.
How could I, "rescue" these games? Why wouldn't steam recognize them? Why did I, "lose" them?
P.S. this happens even after manually mounting the drive. It is NOT unmounted

Linux Distros (Gaming) From 2018 to 2025 - OMG the Change!
Game crashes when starting a world in Don't Starve Together on Linux
I’m having a serious issue running Don't Starve Together on my Linux laptop. My system has an Intel Core i3-1115G4, Intel UHD Graphics (Tiger Lake), 4GB RAM, running Linux Lite 7.0 LTS (based on Ubuntu 24.04). The game installs and starts loading, but after a while it crashes my system completely — the screen freezes and I have to force shutdown. This doesn’t happen on Windows; the game runs smoothly there. I’ve tried updating all packages and drivers, including Mesa Vulkan, OpenGL, and Intel graphics drivers. I also tested Vulkan support, ran the game with Proton, and disabled workshop downloads and background apps. I checked the game log thoroughly and found nothing — no errors, nothing unusual. Nothing works. It seems like the game doesn’t play nicely with Intel graphics on Linux, even though my system meets the requirements. I just wanted to report this issue and ask if anyone knows a fix, or if it’s a known incompatibility.
Making it clear that on Windows the game ran perfectly, even though my specifications are bad, the game does not require much

Gengine, an open-source Gabriel Knight 3 (1999) reimplementation, released version 0.5.0 with tons of fixes!
What is your game you are still waiting for support on?
Updated bricked Minecraft
Hi guys, after updating my system, it updated to the latest Nvidia driver and now I can't play any 1.20.1 modpack. When I try to create/ start a new world, my laptop freezes, and does nothing, hard reset is the only option. How can I fix this? Everything works fine with 1.21.1 or any other version.

Guild Wars 2 launcher on CachyOS locking screen and input
Trying to launch Guild Wars 2 via Lutris; the game runs fine (when I can get in) but the launcher, as the title, completely locks my machine up.
Music and other audio will still play even when the locking happens, so I think it's just locking the screen and input.
I get occasional moments of usability which means with luck (and enough time) I can log in, and the moment the text fields of the launcher disappear the problems stop.
I'm up to date (ran pacman -Syu recently), have a NVidia 950M card in my laptop (which is apparently supported by the drivers).
Everything ran fine under windows.
I've searched around to see if I can find solutions to this problem, and I see that others had a at least similar issue due to a pixman issue, but I'm not running the offending version so I don't think it's that.
I'd really appreciate help with this issue, I'm fairly new to Linux and completely new to Linux gaming.
Edit: forgot to mention, using -autologin solves the problem, but I'd like to be able to use multiple accounts, and I'd like the underlying problem to be fixed too

is it worth buying second ssd for dual boot?
assuming that I have the budget, should I buy second ssd for dual boot?
I plan to play games on both OS, whichever performs better with whichever game.
I currently have 2TB KC3000 ssd. if I buy second ssd, it will be of 500GB and half performance of KC3000.
What are the implications ?
and If I do end of with 2 ssds, on which one should I install linux and windows
