In Linux mint steam big picture mode has really bad lag.
It's fixed when I enable hardware decelerated in web view, but steam usually wont open with that's enabled. My PC is all AMD.

DayZ launcher (Personal project)
I created this project because I was getting back into playing DayZ on Linux again and wanted a better launcher. Since I want learn a new language(Golang) I decided to build it using that. This is a personal project; for the most part, I used "vibe coding", I builded it just for the fun of it and to learn what I needed to, so I have no intention of continuing to maintain it, as it already does everything I want.
I am sharing this simply because it might be useful to someone else (or maybe not). I have only tested it on CachyOS (my current OS), but I did create other installation options (deb, rpm, zip, PKGBUILD) which I didn't tested.

Why disk space differentiate from app to app so much?
Greetings. Recently I've been moving my games to my linux partition more and more, and I've faced an issue I didnt expect to face. My free disk space differentiate too much from app im checking it in. My file system has 787 gigs of space initially. And disk utility says, that I have 343 gigs of free space.
I've wanted to install baldurs gate 3 and play it, and noticed, that steam reports my free space as 266 gigs.
Weird, I've googled and found out, that ext4 have some kind of reserved space for root, which is 5% by default, okay, 5% of 787 should equal to 40 gigs of memory reserved. Its quite large and I would want to reduce it, since, well, Im already ditching 16 gigs for swap partition. But even then - 40 + 16 = 56, and still - 343(reported amount of free space by "disks" app) - 56(swap + ext4) != 266, its equal to 287, roughly 20 gigs less. After some more reading - I decided to run df -h, here is results
It it reports correct 284 gigs of free space - difference of 3 gigs for those 2 tmpfs files.
So, question still stands - where have I lost 20 gigs? And also - what is a safe value for ext4 reserve? Because I would like some of those 40 gigs for myself, since swap is not loaded most of the time.
I also ran qdirstat program, for measure, and it reports correct 400 of taken space.
So 4 different programs give me 3 different numbers for my memory. Please tell me if Im correct in my assumptions about ext4 and swap, and where have I miscalculated 20 gigs.

How to take a HDR screenshot
At the moment i use reshade to capture a .jxl which works great-ish,
im wondering if there is a way to get KDR (Fedora 44 KDE) to take a HDR screenshot. Currently it can capture jxl and jxr but they seem to still be in SDR space and not HDR.

AMD eGPU Linux win
Just to report a good Linux win in peripherical support.
I have a Bosgame eGPU with a 7600XT and it lags a lot until freezing completely on Windows even on normal desktop usage.
On Fedora 44, OoT, normal usage is fine but when I start any game, in 5-10mins it freezes the game itself.
However, with all-ways-egpu (and it is a very straightforward solution), everything is working without a hitch.
On Windows 11, I can't even try anything on Adrenaline because it freezes right before opening. None of the proposed solutions worked and the system refuses to work with the eGPU at all.. Unplugging the eGPU unfreezes everything.

Overwatch shader compiling issue with Intel Arc A770
Overwatch keeps recompiling shaders every time I restart the game. I've tried various Proton versions including Proton Experimental (bleeding edge) and several launch options like PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE=1 and __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1, but none of them seem to have any effect.

Will it be possible to install Linux on the Xbox Series S in a few months? Or was there only one exception with the PS5, which managed to jailbreak
I hope they release it in a few months; it would be a great, very affordable, and powerful PC.

Arch + Steam + Workstation MiniPC - way to get a baseline?
I've been getting into gaming recently, mostly emulation w/ RetroArch and given my system things have been going smooth:
Lenovo P3 ThinkStation Tiny Gen 1 * i5-13500T + iGPU (14 core / 20 thread) * AMD Radeon Pro WX 3200 (older workstation level dGPU - 4GB) * 32GB DDR5 4800 * 4k 3840 x 2160 monitor (IPS) but it maxes out at 60hz * Arch Linux (latest... UKI i think)
I've installed Steam, new account - by no means am I a serious gamer - and I just want to test how much my machine can handle
I've bought an older game "The Takeover", honestly, it just looks like a badass beat 'em up game, looks fun
Seems like my system can handle it, fan picks up, 100% of my dGPU in use but I think I expected that - I think this GPU is just under the recommended spec for the game
So I'm trying to understand if there's some easy way to... use this game as a baseline to identify how much I can push my system... though as I type this out now I'm thinking that I'm just gonna have to make my best educated guess given each game's min system requirements
Just curious if there's some other helpful tooling I can run, i've got Steams system metrics display enabled while playing, I can run btop in a separate window, not sure if i find that useful yet

How’s the new Proton 11 beta that Valve made? Specifically NTSync?
I’ve been contemplating switching to Linux for a while, but one of the big things holding me back was gaming and its complications.
I’ve heard the new Proton 11 beta allows Linux to natively read the coding language used for games, however, and I’ve been wondering if anyone could tell me how well it runs, or if any specific games have been having complications still.
One of my biggest concerns is how well Escape from Tarkov works on the new distro, but any insight on how things are running would be greatly beneficial in my decision.
Thank you in advance.

W Linux
I installed Linux Mint a week ago on a drive I wasn’t using to dual boot as lifelong windows user, the OS is very snappy, easy to use and configure, I love where I have it so far. I even have a custom grub bootloader skin, I had to use the terminal a bit to get some things working out the box (AirPods 4 dual boot pairing, Tailscale, samba, rdp) but it was a lot easier than I thought, being used to cmd and powershell, and I got everything up and running how I’d use it in Windows, minus some small tools like gpuz or Logitech mouse configuration software
I got my Minecraft Java/mods and configs up and running with no problem, even though my PC isn’t bad where it’s at (32GB DDR4, 5600, 3080) I was pleased to find that not only does it run noticeably faster on Mint, but it also runs faster with shaders too, chunks loads faster, is generally just way more responsive than it ever is on Windows. I have no need to keep Minecraft on on windows anymore, and I’ll probably be slowly migrating things to Linux exclusively over time. I’m still tethered to windows because my creative work flow is still engrained in windows filesystem for FL Studio + vst3 directories, and they have better out of the box support and run faster on bare metal windows, but if things keep going where they are I’m totally okay with ditching windows entirely as I’m not attached to it. The whole OS, with a game open, and several tabs in the background takes 7GB of ram, where windows easily would’ve been double that 😭
