hi im kinda new to linux gaming and i just installed steam via the software manager in mint linux. but when i launch it nothing shows up but it doest show that its running in the bottem bar of my screen. but i can get it to show if i run the steam command in console. is there a way to make it show without me running steam command?

Basically subject. I'm playing the finals and I see that almost every time, there's some shader precaching involved, followed by Vulkan processing before the game starts.

* Is that normal?

* Is there a configuration that avoids that and, if so, which would be the disadvantages?

My gpu is a 9070, playing on Arch, normal Linux kernel, 32Gb of RAM.

I’m getting tired of Windows 11 Pro’s telemetry and constant issues, so I’m considering switching to Linux for gaming. I don’t play online, and my hardware is an RTX 5090 with a Threadripper 7960X.

For someone mainly focused on single-player gaming, which Linux distro would give me the best performance, stability, and overall experience? Any recommendations or things to watch out for?

Because CK2 weirdly runs like utter poop and I honestly have no clue why.

Hi, I switched from Windows 10 about 2 days ago and now I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon. I'm really enjoying it, but I don't know why—when I enter Arsenal, roblox game, where I used to get 240 FPS, now I get 100 to 150, 160. I have an RTX 3060 and I adjusted some settings in NVIDIA Settings, but I don’t think that’s the problem.

Can anyone help me?

A lot of games I regularly play are behaving in really weird ways that they did not do before. Most of these are unity games but some aren't. Some of these include:

• crashing on startup(both with the native version of the game and under proton)
• crashing after opening the pause menu or some other action
• crashing after tabbing in and out
• crashing at completely random times

• I tried a dozen different versions of proton. (I usually use proton ge from using the proton-ge-custom-bin from the chaotic aur.)
• I tried moving the games to a different drives.
• I tried using a clean install of cachyos in a vm
• I tried a clean install of nixos on my actual pc(I installed nixos for a different reason I just tried while I was doing that)
• I tried waiting for driver updates

It is most definetly a problem with my pc as I asked a friend of mine to try one of the games on his p that's running cachyos and it run just fine.
It can't be some kind of package causing problems since it did not work on 3 different OSs.

It’s a project called Eaglercraft. The dev decompiled the 1.8 source and compiled it to JavaScript. It runs on any browser that supports WebGL (Firefox/Chromium) without needing the proprietary Minecraft Launcher or a Microsoft Account login.

It connects to offline-mode servers via WebSockets. It’s a pretty neat way to preserve the 1.8 era in a platform-agnostic way.

Ola, faço uso de uma distro linux baseada em arch(cachyos) e eu a instalei pela sua fluidez e desempenho, porem, ao instalar elden ring que rodava tranquilo no windows, o jogo simplesmente abre e fica todo lagado entre uns 3-4 fps, não sei mais oq fazer.

I have tried launch options and compatibility, anyone have solution related to these?

I have 2 monitors and hat support HDR, one of them AdobeRGB capable. And when I was testing touch input with KDE i had HDR turned on, but once I swapped back to Labwc, my bing wallpaper looked washed out on the lights from some buildings.

I haven't tested if HDR works on Labwc proper but I have noticed that when swapping desktops in testing.

I have spent a few hours over the last few days trying everything I can find to get battle net to work on Lutris. I'm trying to play HOTS if that matters.

I have tried every version of Proton and Wine, I've used steam to try and install it as well as Lutris, no matter what I do the install gets stuck at 45% and then eventually fails and stops responding. The error that gets put into the log files is :
Failed to read db info from 'C:/ProgramData/Battle.net/Agent/product.db'

I'm pretty new to gaming on linux but would love some help from anyone who can get it to work? any advice is appreciated.

i installed the mcpe launcher and its running the “latest” 1.21.114.1, i need the newest minecraft update (1.21.130), i play with my sister who plays on her phone; so please don’t tell me to just get java. Just wanna know if its gonna get updated, is there a way to update it etc. i have also extracted the 1.21.130 file the launcher provided and a bedrock apk but gives me the error massege ‘not valid minecraft apk doesnt contain libminecraftpe.so, , i have the android version and have signed in on that account owning Minecraft bedrock and android.

Hi! Is Ubuntu Studio a good choice if I want to game on Linux? Are there any limitations compared to regular Ubuntu that I should be aware of?

Linux gaming noob here. I have used regular Ubuntu for more than 5 years, some time ago I switched to Ubuntu Studio. Now I want to try gaming on Linux.

My games are on Steam, GOG and Epic. So far I used Windows for gaming (dual boot system).

I read that Ubuntu is fine for gaming, but I haven't found any info about Ubuntu Studio. If Ubuntu Studio has any limitations for gaming I'd rather know about it beforehand than start messing around with it and mess something up. Yes, it's happened to me in the past and yes, I had to reinstall the system because of it :)

Low latency Kernel used by Ubuntu Studio is better/worse for gaming? Or it does not matter?
