Considering switching from Windows, Have Hardware Questions
I use my pc pretty much exclusively for games. I'm looking for the simplest solution to get to using Linux, but I have an old GPU from a donated PC. I may not even need that, but I dunno, so here's what I got:
Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC (I think 1.4 but I'll have to doublecheck)
AMD 5600G APU
32GB RAM
GTX 1060 6GB
1TB Western Digital spinny plate hard drive
2x1TB NVME from Kingston
I know the hard drives probably won't matter for Linux, but I threw them in there because I'm curious if I move all my game files on there, will they load and/or play slower than if they're on the NVME? Its just been sitting in there not holding anything because I haven't needed the space.
I've poked around, and it seems like my old GPU might have trouble being supported on Linux, but I've also gotten the impression that the GPU side of my processor is about the same in performance. Also, I'd like to continue using 2 monitors, which I haven't seen addressed anywhere so I assume its a non-issue, but one is HDMI and one is DVI because its cobbled together with a stupid big 4k tv I won in a damned raffle.
Any opinions on a distro to use would be welcome. I've already downloaded a handful but kinda want to get my storage and GPU sorted before I start testing. Thanks in advance

PC fails to post after random updates (BIOS/UEFI freeze)
Warpping Discord around a VPN
Discord got banned where I live. I'm trying to find a way to route Discord to a specific proxy, or in other words warpring it around a VPN. I do not want to run a VPN system wide as this will significantly decrease internet speed, and also could affect connectivity in many games. Anyone has an effective way to do this? I'm running Bazzite on my system, and I use Vesktop as the Discord client, which is a flatpak. Any help is appreciated.

Audio cutting out when adjusting volume while playing games
Hi, fairly new to Linux. So far I've been enjoying Bazzite (Plasma) and am considering switching over to it full time from Windows, but I have a major problem preventing me.
If I'm playing a game and adjust my volume level, all audio will cut out; game, desktop, everything. Doesn't matter if I use the fn key on the laptop or the volume knob on my external keyboard. Happens in both Steam games and Lutris installed ones. It seems random how many times I adjust the volume when it cuts out, but it seems anywhere from upwards of 5 button presses.
I found a temporary, but annoying bandaid fix: if I go into the audio settings and switch from 'Play HiFi quality music' to 'Pro Audio' and back again, audio comes back. If I exit the game entirely, audio also comes back, including a blip sound effect from when I had been adjusting volume.
edit: Just tried my USB sound card with headphones to see if the issue popped up using it, and it seems fine. If I use the built-in headphone jack in my laptop, I don't get any sound at all.
Out of curiosity, I installed other distros that also use Plasma (Fedora, Kubuntu), and they seem to have the same issue as well. I tried Bazzite Gnome and it seems like the bug isn't there. I was able to sit there for at least 3 minutes and adjust the volume without any cut out. So it may be a Plasma issue..?
I've been looking over the internet for potential solutions, but I figure I'd post here as well since I've not had any luck so far.
Laptop specs:
Dell Precision 5750
Intel Xeon W-10855M
32 GB RAM
Intel UHD Graphics P630
NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 with Max-Q Design
Bazzite:
KDE Plasma version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks version: 6.18.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel version: 6.16.4-114.bazzite.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics platform: Wayland
I'm not sure what other information to include initially for this issue, so please let me know how to get it so I can post it here.

[HELP] Need help getting Soundize (FMOD-based) mod for GTA San Andreas working with Proton
TL;DR: The Soundize mod for GTA San Andreas (which uses FMOD) won’t work under Proton — FMOD fails to load sound banks. I’ve tried everything I can think of, but the game just freezes. Looking for advice or anyone who’s managed to get it running.
Hey everyone,
I’ve been stuck on this for a few days now and I’m completely out of ideas. I have a fully modded GTA San Andreas setup that runs perfectly under Proton — until I add the Soundize mod. As soon as I put it into modloader, the game just freezes on launch.
From what I can gather from the Proton logs, the FMOD server (the core part of the mod) fails to load the sound banks.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Installed various dependencies into the prefix (via protontricks)
- Installed VCRUN 2010–2019
- Tried installing .NET 4.5 (Proton blocks it, saying a newer version is already installed)
- Installed LavFilters, WMP, AllCodecs, etc.
- Some of these made the mod partially work, but with massive FPS drops
- Tried adding lib32 GStreamer plugins on Arch (except bad and ugly, since they wouldn’t compile)
No luck so far.
If anyone has experience getting FMOD-based mods or Soundize specifically working with Proton, or knows how to properly set up the prefix for it, I’d really appreciate your help or any pointers.
Thanks in advance!

Premium Game Stores only for Linux. Does it exists?
Hi everyone, I'm new to Linux, so sorry if this is a silly question. I create little video games and I would like to finally support Linux, also because now I can test them on my computer having Linux as OS.
Are there any specific Linux stores where it's possible to buy and sell games? I know about Steam, itch.io and others since I am selling games there, but is anything specific only for Linux where there are premium games?
Thank you.

Horrible mouse latency in native linux builds for source engine games.
OS: Fedora 42
Kernel: 6.16.10-200
WM:x11
GPU: RX5700XT
My issue is that when I go to play any source game with its native linux build I get HORRIBLE mouse latency like it has to catch up with me like a rubber band. I feel like i've tried everything, raw mouse input, vsync off, -vulkan flag, using the linux runtimes in the compatibility section. and it all either doesnt work or the compatibilities make my game shit the bed HARD to where it litteraly robs me of my cursor and forcing me to switch to a different tty to find the pid and kill it. But this is the best part ! Proton works absolutely flawlessly, so much better than the native linux builds, an absolute dream. BUT valve doesnt let VAC work in proton so i cant play multiplayer. I have also had this issue on other computers aswell running fedora. Im so over this it makes it geniunely unplayable. If i left any other crucial details out let me know. at the very least please someone tell me im not alone in my suffering and this isnt just a me problem

Bad audio in MGS3. A way to hide or reorder audio devices?
I'm playing the Master Collection version of MGS3 through proton on Linux Mint. The audio is extremely blown out if I use anything other than the first audio device listed (my monitor) and gets worse as you go down the list. I'm using a dualsense and I want to use it's headphone jack, but it is last in the order and the audio turns into straight ear destruction.
I tried disabling the other audio devices through pavucontrol, it had no effect. I don't know what else to try

Mild Vent About New Users
Not sure if this post goes against the rules, but idk where else to put it.
I understand there's been an influx of people switching to linux recently and I'm relatively new myself only having switched about a year ago, but with the amount of repeat questions I've been seeing about simple things like games not launching or performance differences it makes me feel like a lot of these people looked up the most popular/beginner friendly distro and installed it without any further research and it just aggravates me. While I'll admit the amount of research I did before switching was likely more than necessary, I still feel like people should do a little bit before installing

Battlefield 6's anti cheat is a blessing in disguise.
If it was compatible with Linux everyone would overlook just how unbelievably invasive it is of your privacy.
Now you're forced to dual boot and run BF6 on a separate drive away from your main OS.
Thank you EA for shooting yourself in the foot! Can't harvest Linux users's data now
I've been screaming at windows users to dual boot as well, but they won't listen. Their funeral I guess.

Discord closing when minimize
I’m running Discord on Arch Linux with KDE. I noticed that whenever I minimize Discord, it seems to “freeze” or disconnect from voice/video calls. Checking the logs, I see things like:
[RTCConnection] Disconnected [GatewaySocket] Session is no longer valid
I’ve already tried:
Turning off Wi-Fi power management (sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off)
Checking powerprofilesctl list – using balanced, but no effect
No GPU throttling; Discord is running on CPU
It doesn’t seem to be a network issue, because reconnecting is instant and everything works fine when Discord is not minimized. My suspicion is that KDE might be throttling background apps or putting minimized windows into some sort of low-power state, causing Discord sessions to drop.
Has anyone else experienced this on KDE/Linux? Any workaround or config to prevent apps from being throttled/minimized?

How exactly does gaming on Linux work?
So as I'm getting more and more fed up with Windows and trying to find ways to make windows apps work on Linux (hail WinBoat(unrelated to gaming)), I'm still wondering how exactly gaming works on Linux.
I've heard people say that they use X distro for gaming, but then Y distro for everything else. If I were to use Arch for daily use, and Cachy or Pop for gaming, would I then have to relog or reboot my PC, to then startup the other distro for gaming? Is there like a quickswitch? How's it work
