I finally ported game on Linux. [IMRY]
Hi Everyone,
last year I decided to write my own engine on C++. After couple prototypes I understood that it could actually be a game. As a big fan of planescape and fallout I understand the language of isometric RPG so I made one in setting of Soviet Siberia of 70-s.
Linux build was not a problem, Steam Linux build took a lot of time. But I finally made it - so sharing with you. Please and welcome.

Games freeze or close on their own
hello,
I changed from windows to Linux Mint on my main computer a few days ago. I use it for several stuff, one of then being for gaming. On games like Stardew and Fields of Mistria, I have no issues at all (to be expected)
When I tried to play Honkai Star Rail, many times the game you completlu freeze my computer. I thought it was a software issue (because there are no official launchers for that game on Linux). But just in case, I tried to play Team fortess 2 and the game gets stuck on the loading screen and then just force closes.
I am not very tech savy, I tried to google the issue but I rather have someone to help with my specific problem instead of just doing random stuff that might make the problem worse.
Here are my system informations:
Computer: Asus Tuf Dash F15
Operating system: Linux Mint 22.3 - 64 bit
Kernel: 6.17.0-19-generic
Processor: 11th Gen intel core i7 -1 1 370H @ 3.30GHz x 4
graphic cards: intel corporation TigerLake-LP GT2 (Iris Xe Graphics) and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Mobipe/ Max-Q
Memory : 16gb
Cinammon 6.6.7
Display server: X11
The laptop is from 2021
If you need more informations, please tell me. I know there are better distros for gaming but I am very intimidated for something harder than Linux Mint... but if that is the only solution... yeah I understand
Thank you for reading my post

New Steam Beta can run the Linux client inside a container with 64bit
Okay, so I gave it a quick spin. CON: "game-performance" and gamescope won't work and need to be removed from startup parameters. PRO: Steam Overlay finally works for me on NVIDIA/KDE. Also no performance loss.

Is there any hope for old GPUs in Linux?
I have a Nvidia laptop card with old Pascal architecture (2016). I've tried different distros (listed at the bottom) but didn't have any success performance wise.
I got Skyrim (2011) to run at 30 FPS in low graphics with Nvidia propietary drivers while in Windows runs at 60 FPS in medium graphics. I know I won't get the same performance as in Windows, and I'm fine with getting like a 20% less performance. It just happens that I get way too low performance.
Also some games perform better if I use OpenGL instead of Vulkan for some reason (not having this problem in Win). Code to execute a program with OpenGL here if anyone needs it:
--rendering-driver opengl3
I wanted to give Nobara a try, but they don't support Pascal and older cards. The same with Pop_OS! It's because Nvidia doesn't give open source support to Pascal and older anymore.
I'm curious if anyone in a situation similar to mine managed to get good performance and how? TT_TT
Distros I tried:
- Linux Mint 22.3 Zena and 22.1 Xia. Both in Cinammon edition.
- Pop!_OS 24.04, the Nvidia version and the non-Nvidia one. With Pop!_OS I installed the drivers manually from the Nvidia website since the System76 drivers won't work. Tutorial on how to do it if anyone needs it.
Thanks.

Wine 11.5 - Run Windows Applications on Linux, BSD, Solaris and macOS
Sea of Thieves permanently banned me — likely a Proton false positive. Anyone else?
I’ve been playing Sea of Thieves on Linux via Proton since before seasons were a thing. I recently received a permanent account closure for allegedly using “3rd party applications to interfere with game files.”
I’ve never used cheats or any unauthorized software. My theory is that Proton’s Windows API translation layer — the way it handles system calls, injects libraries, and interacts with game files — is what their anti-cheat flagged. From the anti-cheat’s perspective, Proton’s behavior can look similar to cheat injection even though it’s just doing normal compatibility work.
Some key details:
∙ My Xbox enforcement record is completely clean: 0/8 strikes, no suspensions of any kind, ever ∙ The only detection came from Sea of Thieves’ own anti-cheat, not Microsoft/Xbox ∙ I appealed twice through Rare’s support and both were denied with template responses ∙ Support said they can’t discuss detection methods and the case is permanently closedI’m posting here because I’m trying to figure out:
1. Has anyone else been banned from Sea of Thieves while playing on Proton? 2. Does anyone know which specific Proton components might trigger their anti-cheat? (Wine DLL overrides, DXVK, etc.) 3. Has anyone successfully appealed a false positive like this with any game studio?I’ve also posted on the official Sea of Thieves forums but I’d really appreciate any insight from the Linux gaming community since you all understand the Proton side of this better than most.
Thanks.

Is it possible for my friend to Steam Remote a game from my Windows 11 PC to his Linux PC?
Hello everyone, my friend would like to play a Steam game that is not exactly compatible with his Linux PC, but my W11 can run it, I was wondering if it is possible for him to play the game with Steam Remote (or any other way), so my W11 PC is running the game itself but he is controlling the game from his Linux PC. I have no problem leaving the W11 PC on running the game as I'm not using it at the time he would play.
Note that he lives on another continent if this might cause any issues.
Sorry I'm a total layman about Linux and remote play like this in general but the concept of something like this would be interesting and worth to try out.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Death Stranding 2 missing graphical options on CachyOS
I wanted to compare the performance to Windows and found I can't get it running with all settings available on CachyOS.
Specifically, raytracing options aren't in the settings and AMD Anti-Lag 2 isn't an option I can select.
I have tried multiple proton versions to no avail. As far as env variables I tried steam_deck=0 and the one I used sucessfully on RE:Requiem, /WineDetectionEnabled:, when that had a similar issue. Is there something I'm missing?
Specs:
Ryzen 9800x3d
7900 XTX
64 gb ddr5
Newest build of CachyOS(as of 3/20/26) with kde plasma
iGPU is disabled, in case that makes a difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hosting Windows VM with a Dual GPU (5070ti & 5090) CachyOS PC for Windows Gaming?
I realize this is very niche, but would like to explore using 2 GPUs to run Windows in a VM for the occasional game I can't run in Linux. I realize I can dual boot, and so far that's what I've been doing, but it's becoming a bit impractical as I do some streaming and going back and forth forces me to change certain stream configurations here and there.
If it's practical to run a Windows VM with my dual boot partition and my 2 GPUs, I'd assume give it a try.
If anyone has a setup similar to this, what was the method you found and what would be the downsides?

DualSense controller doesn’t work with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (just this game) | Fedora Silverblue
Hi! So I want to play Avatar on my relatively fresh install of Fedora Silverblue.
For whatever reason I have to deactivate Steam Imput on 50% of the games for the controller to work.
But with Avatar it works neither way.
I installed Steam via the flatpak. I also use Steam Tinker Tools.
Any idea what could fix it?
