Getting "disk write error" on shared drive between Linux and Windows

Hey everyone, I'm new to Linux and have an issue I'm hoping you can help me with. I'm running Bazzite from an external M.2 SSD in an enclosure. I've set up a shared partition formatted as exFAT so I can access my games from both Windows and Linux. This is super convenient for games that I prefer to play on Windows, like GTA V, and others that run well on Linux.

However, I've run into a consistent problem: whenever I'm on Linux, I get "disk write errors" on Steam, especially when a game needs an update. Sometimes, even if there's no update, I'll click "Play," Steam will say the game is running, but it never launches. This only happens on Linux, not on Windows.

I've already tried a few things, but nothing seems to stick. I suspect it might be a permissions issue with how Linux handles the exFAT partition. I've heard that using NTFS can sometimes be a workaround, but I'm hesitant to reformat my drive without understanding the root cause.

Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

As a long time Windows user, I've decided to switch to Linux full time after trying it out for more than 4 months. My only deal breaker is the horrendous DX12 performance tax on Nvidia cards, so I'm thinking of getting my first ever AMD card, but do you people think it's worth it? Is 16GB vram enough? Should I just dual boot Windows for DX12 games intsead? I'm on Fedora and planning to play Split Fiction and CP77 at 4k 60fps. I'm just afraid that the performance will still be poor compared to just using the 3080 on Windows.

Heroic launcher 1st launch path not available

So games install fine and fail for the first attempt. Then relaunch after this pop up and it goes away and works.

It would be nice to get rid of as I do have 300 free games xD
I have two hdds and a 120gb ssd with bazitte linux. It was a test at first with my gtx 1070 to see if even worked tbh at first.

I'm semi new to modern Linux tbh my last linux class was Fedora 12 in 2010 so yeah my Linux knowledge is way minimal from then.

did add the permissions using flatseal but doesn't seem to work ?

Bazzite vs CachyOS with Nvidia

I’ve been testing both of these distros with a dozen games all day and CachyOS consistently gets 15-20fps more on dx12 games than bazzite. Why is this? I would recommend windows before I recommended bazzite at this point.

Controllers suddenly stopped working in-game (Steam)

I have this issue recently where all of my controllers suddenly aren't responding in Steam games anymore while Steam is detecting the controller just fine. I'm running Ubuntu 25.04 and I'm not sure if it was a recent update that broke anything but I've scoured the internet to find solutions and no matter what I found, it didn't work.

I played around with Steam input settings, tried adding udev rules, I even logged into an Xorg session, uninstalled and reinstalled Steam, tried the flatpak version, tried Steam big picture mode and none of these worked. I'm not willing to use Gamescope because impacts my performance dramatically but.

Just days ago there was nothing wrong, but I'd previously moved away from Bazzite 42 because of this same exact issue. The only option I'm left with is doing a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and hoping this issue doesn't eventually come back but before I do, I was wondering if anyone has a fix I hadn't considered yet?

CS2 freezes when trying to load a map

the game launches fine (no launch options btw) but when i try to load a map it just freezes and shows a date
for example last time i think it was something like
aug 27 15 . 0 . 5 . 6 - L and a lot of zeros
my laptop has a 4th gen intel
and an nvidia gt 750m 2gb

Only one having a issue with enlisted on steam?

I use Arch linux with Proton 9.0 [beta] official, Steam Runtime 2.0, anticheat that enlisted uses is BattlEye,

I can launch the game queue up and even play for a while but after a few minutes I’m always kicked with this error: "Kicked by anticheat server. One of the reasons may be lost connection to the server, please restart the game and try again."
It’s not a real connection issue my internet is stable, other games work fine, and this kick happens consistently after a few minutes. To make it worse, I’m getting XP penalties as if I left the match on purpose. I tried Proton 9.0 (official), Proton 8.0, and GE builds, Steam Runtime 2.0 fully active (confirmed via process check), Disabled all overlays (Steam, Discord), and here are my launch options: STEAM_RUNTIME=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Verified game files, clean BattlEye folder, system time synced, not running Steam as root
It’s hard to tell if this is on Enlisted's end or BattlEye’s Proton compatibility, but it’s definitely broken right now. War Thunder runs natively without issue, so it’s not a system problem I’d love to hear from other Linux users maybe we can get enough eyes on this to push for a fix. [spent 15 minutes typing this]
