Looking Glass

02. Mai 2024 - 20:23

https://looking-glass.io/docs/B7-rc1-21-ecd3692e/requirements/#connected-display

I've been looking into looking glass and I have a question whether my laptop which has an integrated AMD gpu and a dedicated Nvidia gpu where the latter routes it's output to the former instead of being connected to a display.

Separate, physical disk for playing League/Valorant?

02. Mai 2024 - 19:57

Hey, I'm not really happy to have Vanguard running 24/7 somewhere in depths of system kernel - especially that nobody is 100% sure what it really can do behind the scenes - we can only hope it detects cheats and nothing else. So I was wondering - if I purchase second NVme disk and install there windows 11 just for games - would that keep my primary disk with linux safe?

For clarity - On my main disk with linux - I do use secureboot + whole disk is encrypted using default debian crypt params. For second disk with windows - I would only run there those 2 games, no login to web browser, no work, no sending personal files there.

Also, prove me if I'm wrong but as these are 2 separate disks, I don't need to create some custom grub entries, right? I can just enter boot menu manually from keyboard every time I want to boot to my second drive.

Asking all of this cuz truth be told I miss League after all and I can pickup such disk for maybe $15.

No DLSS and Frame Generation on Starfield on Pop OS?

02. Mai 2024 - 17:52

Hello ladies and Gentlemen. I am making the switch from Windows and attempting to get my laptop up and running with Pop Os because of the ease of having nvidia drivers per-installed. So far everything has been functioning great accept getting dlss and frame generation to function. I have an ASUS Invictus with both integrated graphics and an RTX 4050.

I'm using the hybrid graphics mode and things are working accept in Starfield (the only game ive tested) I don't have access to DLSS and Frame Generation. I can select FSR and a few other options, no dlss. Looking for help here. Thanks in advance.

Resolution Question

02. Mai 2024 - 17:28

I have an ultrawide screen which is broken and the right 5 cm can't be used. Under Windows I set it from 3440x1440 to 2560x1440 but that also removes the left side. As I am not aware in Windows of a solution that gives me the left part back.

Is there a solution in Linux where I can just say don't use the right 5cm of the monitor

Rocket league on Linux based system

02. Mai 2024 - 16:24

Is there anything I need to know before trying to play RL on Linux? (epic games via Bottles / Wine Proton) Does the anti cheat care? Is it possible to get bakkesmod working? And finally, are there input delay issues and if so is there a way I can reduce it?

Talk about native support for games and programs on Linux and the introduction of Vanilla OS 2 Orchid Beta

02. Mai 2024 - 14:47

Hello Linux Community!

We invite you to take a survey to see how interested you are in native support for games and programs on Linux. Please also leave comments to tell us exactly what you would like.

We are also curious if you are interested in discussing the new Vanilla OS, specifically the Vanilla OS 2 Orchid Beta. We will try to help you and answer your questions.

Let's make Linux more popular! If you want, try Vanilla OS distribution, especially Vanilla OS 2 Orchid Beta. It is good at the stage it is in.

Linux has many advantages over Windows. In many points, Linux is more performant, has a very high security and it is very rare to get a virus. It is also good for very old PCs and works well.

Say anything about Linux and make fun of Windows, especially for blocking, ads and spying.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!

Linux Mint/Bottles, missing modules?

02. Mai 2024 - 13:21

Hello everyone, new to gaming on Linux, and having a little issue I'm quite understanding.

I have a game (Gears of War 3 - Jacinto-) here that doesn't require being installed. I've made a folder (games) in the C drive of my bottle.

Inside that folder sits the games folder, ofcourse with everything required inside that (there's 3 folders).

When I try to run the game, it doesn't work. And running the game with the terminal enabled shows that it's missing modules.

Things like PhysxExtensions64.dll, as an example. All the missing modules are inside the same folder as the games executable. So I'm not quite understanding as to why it won't run.

I've tried changed the working directory to be the games folder, but that hasn't changed what's occurring, nor the error messages about missing modules.

Now, I know this game works, as I actually had the multiplayer working last night (multiplayer and campaign are seperate) and not quite sure what I did (and unfortunately, without thinking, I deleted the multiplsyer version) to make the game run.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? As I'm kinda lost now, as other games I've put into the bottle via installers have all worked perfectly.

What's the deal with CS 2 on Linux?

02. Mai 2024 - 12:30

Hi, i'm making this post to understand how the hell i should get CS 2 working on my Arch Linux system. Whenever i try to launch the game and a round it says something about VAC and it doesn't let me play. However i'm seeing a lot of people playing CS 2 and i don't know how they're doing it.

How should i make it work?

Green-screen crash on AMD 7000-series when gaming, got half a workaround.

02. Mai 2024 - 12:24

So I'm suffering from the green-screen crash with my 7900xtx that occurs when you throw anything demanding at it. It consistently happens once a day on the first run, then seems to resolve itself after a reboot (which the crash triggers).

For funsies I tried, at first boot, to immediately reboot the machine once right away instead of waiting for it to fail, and this seems sidestep the issue. Though not a solution, it's a nice way to avoid throwing away your time, rating, ranking etc. by crashing out of a multiplayer game.

Anyone know anything about this bug or if anything is being done? Basically it's crashing the gpu when challenged insofar the machine has been cold-booted. Kinda weird precondition.

How can I tell if I'm using my graphics card to the max?

02. Mai 2024 - 11:56

In windows I had a software centre (adrenaline I think?) that would show me details, or I could tweak settings. In Linux it's in the kernel (impressive) which means it's seamless but how can I tell if it needs some settings change? I've an Xfx Rx 5600 xt thicc II pro but I'm running starship troopers on low settings since it's sometimes a little janky, (I'm assuming alpha + lag, but how can I be sure), can I fault find?

Thanks

Nvidia Wayland differences on 2 computers driving me nuts

02. Mai 2024 - 10:19

Backstory:

I have 2 computers, One laptop with a 3050 with a 144Hz monitor and a desktop rig with a 3060 that both run KDE plasma wayland with a 75Hz monitor

On my laptop everything runs flawlessly, No flickering no frame skipping no nothing

But on my rig some games seem to be plagued by either frame skipping (Pizza tower) or flickering (Minecraft)

I have tried the following to try to fix my rig:

1.going into /etc/default/grub and adding nvidia-drm.modeset=1 (A guy on proton db said that would fix the pizza tower visual bugs)

2.going into /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and adding the nvidia modules in the correct order

3.changing the refresh rate from 75 to 60 and every other one provided

4.installing the explicit sync patch from the AUR (Fixed some games like tekken 8 but the rest isn't fixed)

I know the beta nvidia drivers are coming out mid may but this has been driving me insane because it doesn't make sense to me how both computers with nvidia GPUS preform so differently even with mostly the same settings and packages installed.
