Gamescope mouse is not aligned correctly

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 12:59

First, the video: https://lemy.lol/pictrs/image/bfa5cfbc-927b-4efe-a96c-927d7eebe669.webm

I have a 32:9 screen and I want to play CS2 in middle, 16:9 way. I couldn't do it natively and tried Gamescope.

While Gamescope works as I would like, the mouse is doesn't work properly. As you can see from the video, game is centered but mouse is aligned to right of the screen. The params I'm using are;

gamemoderun gamescope -f -w 2560 -h 1440 -r 240 --force-grab-cursor -S integer -- %command% -fullscreen

Any recommendations?

Minecraft server on Linux taking a long time to save chunks.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 06:57

I'm trying to run a minecraft server on linux and have everything working (completely vanilla btw) but am running into a weird problem on linux that I never experience on windows doing the same thing on the same system.

Basically when I use the /stop command in the terminal to shut down the server it takes an absurdly long time to save the chunks, like it's slow when no ones even been into the server and if someone has it just never seems to get past "saving chunks for level 'ServerLevel[world]'/minecraft:overworld". Whats especially weird is that if I force close the process or restart the pc before it completes the world seems like it was saved find upon reloading.

Has anyone had this issue before or know why linux specifically seems to cause it? Or have any experience running minecraft servers on linux?

On linux mint btw. Cheers

Old hardware is not as obsolete as I was lead to believe. Especially on Linux!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 05:38

I am strongly considering ditching windows once windows 10 support ends. I picked up this old Alienware aurora R3 to have an extra system to try out Linux.

Microsoft isn't trying to hide that they are spying on you anymore. So *uck em. All I do on my main system is game and do some occasional office work. So I am trying out different distros and I must say I am very impressed with how (mostly) painless gaming on Linux has been! Especially considering im running on very old hardware.

Currently running games like Hogwarts Legacy, the Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal at well above 60fps @high settings (especially DOOM) on this old Alienware Aurora R3. Performance was even better once I installed Linux. Currently have the Bazzite distro installed after trying zorrin OS and mint. Everything just seems to work so far. Drivers, printers and other devices haven't had any issues yet. Especially after swapping the gpu from Nvidia to AMD with my old rx 5700xt

List of GPUs that can only use the old DXVK

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 05:37

First of all thx for reading, now i can start :)

Hello again! I’m the creator of https://github.com/pythonlover02/Proton-For-Old-Vulkan. The idea behind this project is to help users with older GPUs that support Vulkan, but do not support Vulkan 1.3, giving them a plug and play option, instead of manually overwriting the DXVK files in Proton. Also personal patches are included to make it even better :P.

So going on with the idea, i would love to make a list of GPUs that should use this older version of DXVK (1.10.3). If you could help by providing the names of dedicated or integrated GPUs that need that, it would be greatly appreciated! For now, i know about the GT 710 and the GTX 765m.

Anyone who contributes to this list will be acknowledged in the Credits section. If you prefer to remain anonymous, just let me know in your comment and I’ll make sure to respect your privacy.

And again, Thank you! :P

FPS issues since kernel 9.10.x

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 05:00

Preface: I'm using Arch + Steam + latest proton with AMD 5600X /AMD6600 64gig ram, NVME boot and game drives.

I thought I was losing my mind, but...

with the current kernel series (9.10.x), my fps on some of my older games has tanked.

Even a more (relatively) "modern" bench such as Gears Tactics shows 10-25fps lower than the 9.9.x kernels. (Sub 100fps.)

The more drastic one is Xcom: WotC. (using Steam for everything and Proton (latest) as well.)

Since 9.10, framerate tanked by 60% with the tactical side crawling in at 18-35fps.

I tried every troubleshooting tactic I could think of to no avail (and no apparent errors in logs either.)

So I tried the LTS kernel (6.6.x series).

Gears now report 15-20fps improvements and XCOM returned to the normal 95-125fps.

ZERO changes to anything other than the kernel.

Am I alone/unique here, or is something goofy going on with 9.10?

I can't install games in Heroic Launcher anywhere other than my home drive. If I install it on my Games SSD, everything errors out "Failed to get the process path." Yes, I'm using Flatseal.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 04:11

Hi all,

So I've got an annoying problem. My boot drive is intentionally small so I can store games on a seperate internal SSD.

But in Heroic Launcher, whenever I download and install games on my SSD, it errors out.

If I install it on my main drive everything works perfectly.

Yes, I have been using Flatseal to grant permissions for my drive, but I've put every path I can think of and it still errors out with "Failed to get the process path".

Anyone else encountered this or have any ideas of troubleshooting?

is this not insanely contradictory?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2024 - 03:26

Is using linux not a choice consumers make? Is epic games not the opposite of an open platform by disallowing linux compatibility entirely? Sure a game like fortnite not being allowed i can get for cheater reasons. But the entire launcher and games they acquire like rocket league having their native linux build removed seems completely stupid and contradictory to what tim is seemingly agreeing with.
