for me mouse sensitivity is really important and to make the full switch to Linux I would like to have the exact same sensitivity from windows on linux. On Windows the pointer speed I use is set to 8, and I have 3150 dpi set on my logitech ghub app, on Linux I want to use gnome, but the pointer speed is just a slider with no number, maybe there is some sort of command to get my pointer speed to the equivalent of 8 on Windows? btw, I know Solaar exists, but I can't set my dpi to 3150, only 3200.

My monitor runs at a refresh rate of 165Hz, and that's what my OS is set too. I quite like it that way. The problem is I want to play Fallout New Vegas, but having the framerate that high alters the tick speed, which changes the speed at which alot of animations play. It absolutely kills my immersion and enjoyment, and I'd like to find a way to fix this without impeding my enjoyment of the rest of the system- including other games.

Ill try to keep it as structured as possible, but ill apologize in advance (not a native speaker and all that)

(note in advance, the problems i have are distro agnostic)
Lets start with an example, anno 1404 history edition, one of my favourite games.
The first time i tried to make it work i never got it to start, protondb made no difference, i tried lutris, i tried cracks, nothing seems to have worked besides one specific obscure version.
When i switched the distro it never worked again for over a year until it randomly started working but only sometimes.

It is scarily consistent how little games work for me and that happens even with games that protondb rates gold or above.

The second most consistent thing was that every time i asked for assistance or showed my plight i was always accused of breaking something or that "it was my fault or you did something wrong" despite me never changing my system and always using default values for everything.

I have an nvidia card (1660 super) (its a stock pc with the only difference being i added more ram) cause idk enough about amd to make a proper switch.

I just wanna play games man, without having to rummage around for fixes like its 2005 and i never got close to even actually figuring out why things work so rarely for me compared to everyone else.

I’m reaching out to see if anyone has a second-hand laptop or anything lying around that they could spare. My sister and I were really looking forward to playing together online, especially since she lives in a different country, and this game was the way we planned to reconnect. It seems based on the most recent patch that Ubisoft has updated their Easy Anticheat and it now ships with an additional package for Linux titled "libEOSSDK-Linux-Shipping.so" in addition to the change in titles for certificates. However, the support for this new form of anticheat has not been updated in Proton yet, so the game is currently failing to launch.

In case you don't know what it is, luxtorpeda-dev is a steam compatibility tool, which in similar ways to Proton, allows you to run games on Steam on Linux. Unlike proton where you're using wine, luxtorpeda downloads and configures various native source ports and binaries, where it's basically one-click, with everything happening easily. This allows for using gzdoom for Doom, OpenGothic for Gothic II, and alot of other examples similar to that, especially where the source port is alot better than the old Steam exe.

I updated luxtorpeda-dev a while back to check daily for new release tags for an engine, which made it easier to detect when any of the 100+ game engines have an update, as well as providing a simple pull request with the necessary changes to switch to that release, baring any issues that have to be manually looked at.

I recently in the last few days updated this to also support engines that don't use releases. This will get commits from time to time, and if there's a newer version, it will create a pull request, assuming that the new commit is at least a week newer than the current one, to avoid having lots of noise. As part of this, non-github tags and commits are now supported, since there's some in bitbucket or gitlab.

All of this should make it easier to keep all of the engines up to date, since there's quite alot to maintain now.

Another fun thing is that the sniper runtime that I'm using from Valve recently added sdl3 support, so I updated the doom 64 engine from atsb to the latest. Rise of the Triad has also been updated to a more maintained fork.

I'm looking for the best filesystem to use between Windows and Linux (Fedora 41) & Steam.

NTFS works on Windows (obviously) but on Linux, Steam sees the games on the disk but the games don't launch.

EXFAT haven't tried but also don't want to use it on an internal drive. Though the data is not important (games) meaning journaling isn't vital - it doesn't have features like compression which would be nice.

BTRFS. Windows has a btrfs port and that seemed to work but every now and then Windows will fail to mount the drive. So while it was pretty much great, the Windows driver might need a bit more time in the oven.

ZFS. Haven't tested it but it there is the openZFS port for Windows which might work. Anyone tried this?

Are their any good games for my current hardware? I am going to get a new display, keyboard and battery and when I do I would like to have some games on this system, the watermark on the image is incorrect. My system is a latitude e6410 with 8gb ram, an i5-520m, intel HD graphics (OpenGl 2.1) running a very very very screwed up Ubuntu install that had gnome that I removed then installed KDE plasma without getting kubuntu. I have wine and currently only have 3 windows games star craft, AOE, and KSP (I like RTS), but I was wondering if there were any good other games that could run (well) on this system. I'm on Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS, kernel 6.12.10, Wayland GNOME. I have hid_nintendo running and joycond installed, but my BattlerGC & BattlerGC Pro controllers refuse to work via the 2.4G dongles. They function as Swtich Pro (running evtest shows all inputs correctly) but no program will detect them. Occasionally a blip will come through or it will work via a cable, but this is inconsistent. Am I missing a driver of some kind? They obviously work and their inputs are reaching the system but they're not usable software side.

Well, this is frustrating...

I've been using Bazzite and I'm super impressed with its stability and how well everything works, including Windows games run vastly better and more smoothly than on Windows. There's just one annoying issue: NBA 2k25 keeps freezing randomly a few minutes into the game.

My config is:

• Ryzen 1700
• Nvidia 1080 Ti
• Nvidia driver 570.124 (latest stable)
• KDE 6.3.1 Wayland
• kernel 6.13.5

I believe the game uses DirectX 12. I don't know whether the issue is in the Nvidia driver, Wayland, the game itself, Proton, or some combination thereof. My system is otherwise stable as a rock and other Steam games that I've tried run perfectly well (including DX12 ones).

The freeze happens at random points in the game, usually well before 15 minutes of playing, and the symptoms are always exactly the same. There’s a 1 second freeze, then another 1-2 frames get rendered, and then the freeze becomes permanent. The sound stops briefly but then continues to play and the system remains “alive”. After a freeze happens I have a few seconds to switch to console mode and kill the process. If I don’t switch within a few seconds, then the system becomes unresponsive (though still alive) and I can only use Magic SysRq to nuke the process. The desktop environment sometimes survives whereas other times it crashes and kwin_wayland needs to be killed. After the freeze, the game process continues to use 100% CPU, and after a while the Plasma process goes up to 100 as well.

Things that help (but don’t fix the issue):

• Freeze probability seems correlated with the amount of “work” the GPU is doing, so lowering settings, resolution and playing in a window instead of full screen makes the game playable for longer (but not long enough).
• Proton Experimental and GE Proton 9.26 anecdotally seem to work better than other versions.
• X11 instead of Wayland makes the game freeze not affect the rest of the system, i.e. the game window freezes, but everything else continues to work.

Other things I’ve tried that seem to have made no difference:

• Various Proton environment variables (I tried a whole bunch that were reported to help with freezing, at the very least these ones in various combinations: PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_NV_low_latency2,VK_KHR_present_id,VK_KHR_present_wait __GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 VKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_KHR_present_id,VK_KHR_present_wait PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1 WINE_DISABLE_VULKAN_OPWR=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1)
• Gamescope with various settings
• Running Steam through Lutris with various settings
• Changing monitor refresh and VSync settings
• Changing HDR and other display settings
• Enabling or disabling EasyAntiCheat
• I'm not using overlays or any such thing that might make things worse

Based on reports on ProtonDB, this issue happens more commonly (or exclusively) on Nvidia cards, even though obviously other games run fine on Nvidia with the same setup.

Does anybody know what’s causing this or have any ideas how to fix it?

No matter what I try I cannot get the GPU to go while running Palworld.

It works with other games and I've verified it running nvidia-smi.

It's just Palworld that's producing this issue.

So far, I've tried using Proton Experimental, GEProton, Proton 9.X and nothing.

Is someone else experiencing this issue?
