Rocket league is running at <50% GPU and <25% CPU and <90fps with frame drops down to 10fps, running at 800x600 doesn't even raise fps.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 12:20

Hey everyone.

I got back into rocket league recently and it was the first time I have played it really since upgrading my rig 5 years ago now. I have the ridiculous problem of rocket league performing terribly while using almost none of my GPU/CPU. I get <90fps, usually around 70fps while on some of the newer fields I get huge 10-20second long spikes down to 10-15fps. Changing the graphics from ultra high to ultra low results in maybe a 5fps difference, but that could also be run-to-run variations. Literally changing the resolution to 800x600 results in 0 fps change at all.

I am using mangohud and gamemoderun as my launch options.

I have tried using proton 8, proton 9, experimental proton, GE-proton9-13, and GE-proton9-20.

It seems like most people don't have this problem on the protondb page, and steam deck players are somehow getting more FPS than me. My friends with the exact same PC components don't have this problem on windows. Is there anyone else with this problem or a solution?

System specs:

  • Bazzite (fedora 41)
  • Ryzen 5 3600X
  • RX 5700XT
  • 32 GB 3200MHz RAM
  • 1440p, 144Hz monitor
  • kernel 6.11.9
  • Plasma 6.2.3

It isn't the end of the world of course, and it is still playable except for those maps where it will often drop to 10-15 fps. Then I just have to suffer through it until the next match. 1v1s are pretty much unplayable though... It is only ever a problem in rocket league. Everything else performs as expected.

Any fixes? Thanks!

After half an hour of playing, Ubisoft games start to slow down very badly

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 11:32

Hello everyone. I am a fan of the Tom Clancy's the Division series and the Linux system. For the last month and a half, it has been impossible to play Tom Clancy's the Division 2 - after 35 minutes of flawless operation, the game begins to slow down sharply. The same thing happens in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The ubisoft connect client itself was installed via Steam using proton. And the games were installed via the ubisoft client. Failure to disable swap, the result is the same. I checked the temperature of the processor, video card and nvme during the game, everything is within normal limits. But the processor starts to load very heavily. It can be seen in the attached screenshots. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Steam parameters: PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME=$HOME/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Proton\ EasyAntiCheat\ Runtime/ WINEDLLOVERRIDES="libglesv2.dll=d" mangohud %command%. My system: Linux searhey 6.12.3-gentoo-x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sat Dec 7 16:29:13 +03 2024 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux, Nvidia RTX 4070Ti, 32gb ram ddr4

GZ Doom help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 09:59

I'm running EndeavorOS, and have installed GZDoom from the AUR. It runs fine, but I could use some help with installing mods. A lot of the tutorials I find online are for Windows, which seems to work very differently because they just have to add files to the config ig. I've tried installing a few, but they don't work. Particularly I'd like a graphics mod, because the hud and enemies look pretty blegh. Better visuals and title screen like the PS1 port would be cool, but not strictly my top priority.

Marvel Rivals on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 09:28

Hey Im new to linux gaming and linux in general. I am currently running Linux Mint and my linux journey so far has been very fun. When I saw Marvel Rivals release date I was very excited and completly forgot about the fact that im on linux now. I downloaded it on steam but upon launching it I get a error message because the game uses DirectX12 which i dont think works on Linux. I've tried for ages trying to use Vulkan, Ge-Proton, Proton experimental etc all in vain. However ive seen some get it to work somehow. Does anyone know how to get it working. I wanna be spiderman :(

Is there a game you want tested on Arc?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 09:08

I'm running an Intel Arc 770LE on Garuda (KDE Lite install). Intel core i5 9600, 32GB RAM, and a strix z-390 mobo.

I have over 200 games in my steam library. If there's something you'd like tested with Arc, let me know and if it's in my library I'll give you results.

I'm not usually into multiplayer(I play offline versions whether possible), but I can tell you that SWTOR, Eve Online, and Conan Exiles(single player) run great. No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous run just fine. Once Human had abysmal framerate last time I tried it(over a month ago I think).

Which Linux OS is better suited to Razer Blade 15 (10th gen Intel + NVIDIA 2080 GPU)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 07:59

I saw some videos comparing gaming performance on Windows 11 and CachyOS and I'm considering trying it. However, I also heard of PopOS, ZorinOS, Nobara..., and many other Linux OSes and I'm not sure which one fits better to my Razer Blade 15.

Besides gaming, I also work on Unreal Engine 5 and Unity game development.

Diablo 4 on Linux: Battle.net vs Steam Version Performance Question

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 07:25

Hi, I'm running Diablo 4 on Linux through Battle.net (added launcher as a non-steam game in Steam). While the game runs, I'm having to lower my texture settings quite a bit to get smooth performance compared to when I play on my Windows partition.

Just wondering - would buying and running the Steam version directly give me better performance? Has anyone tried both versions and noticed a difference?

First time switching to Linux permanently! Having issue with display + NVIDIA and need some help.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 05:16

So I switched my machine over to Ubuntu earlier this week and I’m in love with using it for my desktop and gaming! I do have one nagging issue that I can’t seem to figure out and would love some insight. Every time I boot or log in/log out my screen is black. It stays like this until I disconnect/reconnect my DisplayPort cable from my monitor then it’s fine. I am using an NVIDIA card (RTX 3080) and so I looked into changing the driver up or down but I wanted to check here first if others have had the same problem. Currently running driver 560.something on Ubuntu.

Full computer specs: -i7-13700k - 32GB DDR5 RAM (XMP to 6000mhz) - 2Tb NVME - RTX 3080 - Ubuntu 24.10

Any help is appreciated!

Intel cards on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 05:06

I’ve “recently” made the swap from nVidia to AMD (1660 Ti -> RX 6750XT) on my main desktop and based on the current statistics of the Intel B580, I may make the swap.

But even more recently, i’ve swapped to Linux (for gaming and programming mainly) on my laptop (i7 11400H or something, RTX 3070, 16GB RAM). I haven’t had any time to try it out but I wanted to give it a go on a second system before I make the big jump to Linux on my main desktop (Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6750XT, 32GB DDR4) but linux has less bloat, better overall system performance, and because Microsoft won’t stop pushing the god damn AI BS + they might be stealing my info.

So now i’m torn, IF I do decide to go down the Intel GPU path (cheap and stupid powerful for the price) will I still be able to use Linux for gaming?

The only reason I ask is because of the state of nVidia drivers on Linux, will it be the same “issue” for Intel?

Is there anything we as consumers and gamers can do to pressure Epic to allow Fortnite on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 01:21

Like many of y'all, I have been a Linux user for many years now, and an avid gamer. Unfortunately, I keep finding myself on Windows so that I can play Fortnite. It's to the point where I haven't booted into my Linux drive in months, just because doing everything on Windows is slightly faster than rebooting into Windows every time I want to play Fortnite. I do not like Windows. I would vastly prefer it if I could just play Fortnite on Linux and then delete Windows.

In February of this year (2024), I submitted a support request in which I said the following:

Howdy! I was wondering when Linux EasyAntiCheat support will be enabled for Fortnite? In the blogpost linked below, Epic announced that
"Starting with the latest SDK release, developers can activate anti-cheat support for Linux via Wine or Proton with just a few clicks in the Epic Online Services Developer Portal.".
Fortnite will open under Proton; the game seems to function. So I was wondering when you guys were going to enable Linux support in Fortnite's EasyAntiCheat. I'd be able to play a lot more (and spend more VBucks, wink wink) if I didn't have to dualboot Windows, haha. I understand that it's been 3 years since y'all made that blogpost but I yearn for the Fortnite.

Thanks for your time!

Aforementioned blog post: https://dev.epicgames.com/en-US/news/epic-online-services-launches-anti-cheat-support-for-linux-mac-and-steam-deck

In my message, I mentioned 1. That EasyAntiCheat supports Linux, and just needs a developer toggle to work under Proton, and that Fortnite will open and presumably work under Proton, if only they'd not bar us from playing. It would be up to the community Proton devs to make the game work, not Epic; so all they have to do is enable the Proton toggle in EasyAntiCheat.

The support agent replied with this:
Hello there,

It’s Space Princess here and as of today, I'll be handling your concern. I know you have been waiting for our response, and I can't thank you enough for your patience.

Before anything else, we want to let you know that we highly appreciate you for supporting Fortnite, and without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today. I totally understand how important is this for you, that's why I personally consulted our specialist in regard to this to make sure that your case has been investigated properly.

We have reviewed your concern thoroughly and as of this time, there's no update yet for this however you can check the public FAQ or to create a public or a private post on the official help website. You can also reach out the Epic Online Support team as they are the one supported this.

Your patience and understanding will be so much appreciated. If you have any other questions or concerns, please know that we're always here for you and that you can come back to us anytime by creating a new ticket.

Regards,
Space Princess

As you can see, Space Princess did not give me the answer I was looking for (and how could she? I did not truly expect a "ok!", but perhaps a "I'll pass this to my superiors, thanks for your interest!" at the least.).

Is there anything we can do? Any official place to give suggestions, like how Minecraft does? Social media pressure? Petition? Emailing Epic executives (assuming they have a public facing email address)?

I like Fortnite, and I don't like it when people say "play other games". My boyfriend and I love Fortnite, and I also love Linux (but not Windows). I am sure others feel the same. I hope this post generates interesting discussion, thanks for your time, gamers.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl - Stalked by crashes

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 01:07

While I can play for hours without issues on my AMD machine, it's a lottery. One what I hate to win (lose?), because the crashes I get are so bad, they kill my entire desktop session, restarting it and kicking me back to login. (It's resetting the GPU, I think)

Sometimes, the game / wine environment is still stuck running when logging back in, I can still hear the audio of the frozen process, but the window is gone, obviously.

I have to manually kill the process whenever that happens. As collateral, I needed to repair my data partition's file system twice, out of I think 8 crashes by now. Nothing dramatic, from what it seems, but still. Shouldn't happen.

Anyone else with similar experiences? Any mitigations, solutions, (wine)tricks? If not, get out of here, Stalker.

Games w/o kernel level anti cheat

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 00:33

The post pretty much explains what I am looking for. I am on windows, so I know I’ll get shit, but I figured you all would know best. More specifically, what multiplayer first person shooters are you playing that don’t use kernel level anti cheat. I appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Fix for Warcraft 1 and 2 remastered missing sound when using Pipewire and Lutris

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Dezember 2024 - 00:03

I've only recently swapped to Linux for non-work use and had this problem. It was also very difficult to find any info on it being fixed elsewhere, since it's a new release and the old versions still work fine. I wanted to play the remasters though, and I finally found a fix that I'd like to share.

Installing was fine, the games even ran fine, but with one weird problem: No sound. That was pretty annoying. Searching online I struggled to find answers to this, but after reading about something related to SC1 remastered, I checked the Blizzard launcher logs through the Lutris app and found the following:

ALSA lib dlmisc.c:339:(snd_dlobj_cache_get0) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_pcm_pipewire.so (/usr/lib32/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pipewire.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

Searching that, I found this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/p9itwq/audio_issues_with_pipewire_on_older_game/

Solution: Install lib32-pipewire

Easy as that. Just sharing in case someone else has this issue, and ends up searching the web. Can't seem to tag it with multiple things, so I'm just adding tech support for now.

Happy gaming!
