Is there any fix for not being able to paste text from my desktop into my gamescope window?
I am running KDE Plasma with Wayland on EndeavourOS and I am running games using gamescope and I cannot copy text from my desktop (such as from Discord or Firefox) and paste them into games running under gamescope.
I have searched extensively online for some kind of solution, but can't seem to find any. I am also new to Linux (started 1 week ago) so the solutions I find I cannot seem to get working.
From what I found when searching: someone suggested to run --backend sdl which gives me an error saying Assertion table_len >0 failed. (I think --backend sdl only works on x11?), someone said they made a wrapper for gamescope to allow pasting through but I wasn't sure how to install it nor do I know if I can trust it.
All the posts I found whilst searching online were a bit out-dated so I figured I'd make this post in hopes there is some form of accepted solution.
If I didn't provide enough info let me know what would be helpful to add.

Headaches after headaches in windows 10....want to switch to linux for gaming. Need someone to guide me though installing a Linux distribution.
PC Specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 3 3200G
- Motherboard: A320
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 120GB SSD + 1TB old laptop HDD
- GPU: GTX 1050 Ti
- OS: Windows 10 (latest version)
The Issue:
Windows 10 is giving me constant headaches. I’m experiencing weird, recurring stuttering in games. After a fresh install, everything runs smoothly, but after a few weeks, games start stuttering so badly that they become unplayable. The strange part? Just hours before, they were running fine.
The only fix is to factory reset Windows and reinstall all drivers, which temporarily restores performance. But after some time, the stuttering returns, and I have to go through the whole process again. I've already reinstalled Windows five times, and the cycle keeps repeating.
I mainly play Ghost of Tsushima, GTA 5, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, and despite running them from my HDD, they perform well—until the stuttering kicks in.
Considering Linux for Gaming:
I’m really tired of this and thinking about switching to Linux since gaming support has improved a lot. But I’m concerned about:
- How to install drivers properly
- Which Linux distro would give me the best performance with my hardware
- How to navigate the Linux ecosystem as a new user
Since my hardware isn’t very powerful, I can’t afford much performance loss compared to Windows 10. I just want a stable OS where I can game without constantly reinstalling everything.
Any advice on the best Linux distro for gaming and how to set everything up?

ZOTAC RGB management alternative for Linux
I own a ZOTAC RTX 4070 Ti SUPER Trinity and I can't find a way to turn off the RGB lights while using Linux(CachyOS). Tried OpenRGB, but it does not recognize the GPU. What should I do?
Tried running FireStorm using Bottles, but it didn't work. Also, I don't think I can change any hardware stuff via VM. (I might be wrong tho)

My favorite game "City of Heroes" plays on Linux but I get massive lag spikes
r/Cityofheroes/comments/bip4e2/new_linux_commandline_launcher_penguin_on_the/
I am a longtime player of the MMORPG, City of Heroes. Generally it runs okay using "Penguin on the Rocks" as described in the above post.
In addition to "Penguin on the Rocks," I've also tried running Homecoming's own launcher through wine; running it through Steam and forcing various Proton versions; and running it through Lutris. All of these configurations have the same problem.
The current primary system I am using is a Dell Latitude 7450 from last year. Specs include 16GB RAM, Intel Core Ultra 7 165U, 512GB M.2 storage.
I am running Fedora 41 with the MATE Desktop window manager.
The game runs beautifully probably 90% of the time. However, I get massive lag spikes. I'm not sure lag even really suitably describes it because it's not just the game that slows down, it's entire laptop. Like if I move the focus from the game to a browser window, the browser is also slow as concrete, while the spike is occurring. Then after maybe 3-5 seconds, the stuttering stops and things to back to normal.
I've tried watching everything under `/var/log`, running `top`, and also watching MATE's "system monitor" applet for any clue about what is spiking when this happens. Nothing really has information though. System logs show nothing particular (no CPU or GPU problems, nothing about storage).
I'm at my wits end and could use some suggestions on what might be wrong, and if there is a workaround or fix.
Thank you!

Is there something wrong with my system (distro)?
So, my friend and I have been playing Split Fiction. Amazing game, by the way - if you're wondering whether to try it, go for it.
The problem is that after playing for a while, I start experiencing stuttering. What I’ve noticed is that the stuttering seems to begin when my VRAM gets maxed out. After restarting the game, it runs super smoothly for a while - no FPS drops at all, not even in the 1% low or 0.1% low metrics.
I’m using an RTX 3070 (8GB), a Ryzen 5 5600X, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I play at 1080p without FSR and on high settings.
Now, I know my GPU is a bit older, and 8GB of VRAM isn’t a lot these days, but my friend, who’s on Windows and playing on a laptop, doesn’t have this issue - even though his GPU definitely doesn’t have more than 8GB of VRAM.
So I’m wondering… is the problem with Linux, the game itself, or maybe my distro?
I’m using Kubuntu 24.04.2 LTS with 6.13.6-1-liquorix-amd64 kernel, Proton experimental, and my GPU driver version is 570.86.16.

my HP Victus 16 laptop run super hot (around 80C to 86C) while gaming in Linux
I'm using CachyOS on my HP Victus 16-s1084AX and it seems like it run super hot around 80c - 90c for both CPU & GPU while gaming, it seems like it doesn't properly control the fans like in Windows, in which I got around 70C for CPU and 60C for GPU on average while gaming. I already tried several workaround such as using this Victus Fanboost script for Victus laptops but that doesn't work either, as far as I understand, I need to change the value from 2to 0 at /sys/devices/platform/hp-wmi/hwmon/hwmon6/pwm1_enableto enable "boost state" in which fan will work as intended but for me, the value can't be changed at all, it will stay at 2 no matter what. The other options I have is omen-fan script but I don't properly understand how to run and use it. I'm hoping there's a fix for this, is there any other Omen Victus laptop users that able to fix this issue?

Installing / Adding Games in Lutris on Linux (Tutorial)
Controller replacing mouse
Hello, newbie here. Maybe a bit offtopic, but I've moved my lazy ass from the chair to the couch and while my Logitech K400 wireless keyboard does a good job, sometimes I need having my hands in a different angle while surfing Reddit. Found this solution and it works nicely in Lubuntu with a standard controller (in my case Speedlink): " sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-joystick " then reboot. Haven't found out yet how to reconfigure buttons, but l/r click work as well as scrolling and cursor. Found it on this page: https://askubuntu.com/questions/114895/how-can-a-gamepad-control-the-mouse . Original poster ran Debian Jessie.

The Hunter: Call of the Wild freezes
I'm new to Linux, I have the latest version of the Mint Distro (Xia) and most of my games are working fine, some even work better than when I was using Windows.
Except for The Hunter: Call of the Wild. My problem is it will play fine for a while and then it will freeze. Not crash out or anything, it will literally just freeze the screen indefinitely. I can't tab out, can't Crtl Alt Del, nothing. I tried running the proton hotfix, experimental, 9.0-4, 8.0-5, even GE-Proton9-25. Nothing works. I'm at my wit's end, please help.

Any Keyboard Splitter Alternatives for Linux?
I am looking for a tool that creates a virtual joystick/controller device and maps a selected keyboard to that virtual joystick. There is a program named Keyboard Splitter on Windows that does this, but I could not find a matching application for Linux.
The closest thing I could find is this C script(?): https://forums.bannister.org/ubbthreads.php?ubb=printthread&Board=8&main=9209&type=thread
If anyone knows such an utility program for Linux. Please let me know.

Dualshock touchpad in games?
Any way to get the dualshock 4 touchpad to work in games? I've been playing Ghost of Tsushima lately, and that game often uses the touchpad. At first, it acted as a mouse, so I disabled it in system settings which allowed the touchpad click to work. But inputs that require swiping on the touchpad currently do nothing. Anyonw know how to get it working?
