Steam native source games DXVK does not launch the game

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 15:58

As the tittle said, I'm using arch linux with an intel igpu (uhd 620), when using the -vulkan launch option the game loads the intro then freezes at the loading screen and feezes my entire os, i cant move my mouse or type anything on keyboard as if the game has full priority. Ive tried using proton compatibility tool and the game runs just fine on Vulkan. I'm using mesa with xorg server only. Any help is appreciated

LinVAM - Linux based Voice Activated Macro tool

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 13:48

After searching for a VoiceAttack equivalent for Linux, I came across this reddit post. Shout out to Aidan, the guy who created that post, paid a freelancer to create a Linux based voice activated macro tool and then shared that tool with the Linux community.
Since the project wasn't worked on since it was created (around 5 years ago at the time of writing this post), the project wasn't working on Wayland and the usage wasn't really average user friendly, so I decided to fork the project and work on it so it can be used on both Wayland and X11.

I've refactored the project a little, switched to using Vosk-API Voice to Text engine and ydotool for inputs.
In addition to other changes, I've also added multilanguage support, the ability to use it through Steam launch options and to have MangoHud display which profile and language are used.

The project can be found here: https://github.com/stele95/LinVAM/
It is still a work in progress, meaning updates and improvements will probably be made in the future, but the current state of the project should be in a good shape for every day usage for average user. You can read more about it in the project's README file. As usual, any errors or problems that are encountered can be reported in the Issues section on github here

Sea of thieves won't run on Linux anymore?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 13:39

So I just got back home after a while and tried playing SoT, look like they introduced this new anticheat which seems to require you to run the game on Windows only. Do anyone of you know if it will be possible to find a way around this or is it game over?

Playing old Windows games on my potato PC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 13:26

Perhaps this might be of help to anyone in a similar case like me.
My setup is an old Desktop PC (>10 years old) let me go to specifics:

  • CPU Intel i5-2400 CPU @3.10 GHz
  • MoBo Lenovo Thinkcentre M91p
  • RAM 12 GB
  • Storage 256 GB SSD
  • Graphics AMD Radeon HD6450 R5 230 256MB
  • OS Linux Mint 20.3 64bit
  • Lutris with Proton GE

As you understand I don't have any high expectations, however this setup should be able to run decade old PC games without issues. Nevertheless I faced stuttering, frame drops, to the point that it was unplayable even for resource light games like Civilization IV and Dawn of War. What finally worked for me was in Lutris to disable DXVK, VKD3D and dgvoodoo2. The difference is massive.

So if you have an old PC and want to reminiscence those games perhaps this can help you.

GTA SA Lag on wine

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 13:08

I’m using an old pc but I once installed gta sa through a deb package downloaded online. Now I tried to install gta sa by myself with the game files and wine. It is very laggy and unplayable now. It shows the following error when it lags while playing:

0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 02AE300 is being unloaded while mapped. 0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 0291A8E0 is being unloaded while mapped. 0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 02AE300 is being unloaded while mapped. 0154:err:d3d:resource_unload Resource 0291A8E0 is being unloaded while mapped. …

The lag is gone along with the error when I reduce resolution to 800x600 (or any other lower resolution).

There is no lag when I run it without mods but it’s annoying to play the a game stuck in the corner of my screen. So I need widescreen fix. I also tried SilentPatch. Nothing helps.

Heroic won't launch some of my games today

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 12:24

First: It seems like there was a new Heroic version today, so *something* is obviously different.

These are games from the Epic store (freebies).

I've been playing Sable lately, and today when I tried to launch it in Heroic, it doesn't start properly (Launching -> Playing -> Play now). The log doesn't provide much information, and as far as I can see, there is no 'verbose' option for the log.

I tried to download and run another game (Earthlock), but the result is the same.

I use the flatpak version, but I doubt that makes any difference.

I've tried almost everything but i guess linux isn't my thing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 10:58

It's been a couple of months since i switched to linux, and while i do think it's pretty cool, i just can't put up with how hot my laptop get when playing games

I've tried rog control panel, tlp, corectrl, autocpufreq, but no matter what i did, my laptop is still WAAAY hotter than when i use windows to the point that im actually concerned about my rog laptop

On linux, Deep Rock Galactic went up to 98° celsius while on windoes it only reached the low 70s

Another example is how ultrakill on linux increases the temp to around 75 degrees while on windows, it still stays at around 50 degrees

For native game, TF2 made the temp around 80 or so degrees while on windows it's only around 50

Everything else is good and if it hadn't been for this one problem i would've switched by now, but for right now i think I'll stick to debloating my windows as much as possible

If you guys got any advice please post it here

I got a: Asus rog zephyrus g14 2022, 42GB ram, 1TB nvme drive, Ryzen 9 6900HS, Radeon rx 6700s

And i use fedora (i use arch as well but not my daily drive)

Mint 21.3 Edge - 4090 Wattage issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2024 - 04:45

Afternoon everyone!

I'm currently using a Nvidia 4090 FE and no matter the game it doesn't seem to go past 350w.
On windows it would constantly be at 450w with better performance.
I have swapped it to maximum performance with x-server settings.
I have also tried downloading greenwithenvy and it shows default wattage of 450.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Thanks
