Controller doesn't show in /dev/input/js*
Hello. I have a 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C controller (trying to make it work as wired not wireless) and while it's recognized by the system as a mouse+keyboard combo it's not recognized as a controller. I've tried some solutions (use xboxdrv/jstest-gtk but rightfully the controller doesn't appear so I can't do much, create config files...) but they didn't work. I use Debian 12 Stable (Kernel 6.1) with KDE and Xorg.
Here's the dmesg output when I plug the controller:

Bazzite Linux announced two new editions designed for game developers
huge question about cachyos kernel...
currently, im using fedora 41 with kde plasma... just with the fedora 6.13 kernel right now. but, i want the best performance and best usage of my pc possible using linux, is it really beneficial or an upgrade of a huge margin to use cachyos or at least get the cachyos kernel into your distro? if it is, then how much are we talking? does it boost fps, does it make wayland smoother, does it respond faster?

i'm lost
hi everyone,
recently i tried to use wine to no avail since my GPU is too old, so i tried to go back to steam, and play some games i know i could run.
trying rain world the same error that came out with some of those applications i tried to use with wine appeared:
Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed
i know jack shit about it, i already lost 2 days trying to fix it to use wine to no avail, now it ruins the plain steam experience? i'm furious but powerless hence my presence here.
using arch, specs:
Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
Intel i5-3320M (4) @ 3.300GHz
4gb of ram
if anyone know anything, it would be much appreciated of you to share it with me.
thanks in advance

PS5 DualSense on Fedora 41
I've recently tried to set up Steam on a pretty fresh install of Fedora 41. It runs games fine if I'm using a keyboard and mouse, but I can't get my PS5 Dualsense controller to work inside games (so far have pretty much just tried Dead Cells and Windblown). It definitely seems to register the controller, it works fine in big picture mode and at any time I can use the touchpad as a mouse (including in game), but the buttons and sticks become non-responsive once I'm in game. I've been trying to dig through old reddit posts, steam forum discussions, etc. and haven't found anything that fixed it yet:
- One suggested that the controller was being read as both a desktop input device and as a controller, and games couldn't parse which one it was actually supposed to be. Seems legitimate and matches my symptoms, but even after disabling all steam inputs controller is still non-responsive in game.
- One suggested that udev rules aren't in place, but I both confirmed that steam-devices is installed and that /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-steam-input.rules and /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-steam-vr.rules exist.
- I've installed steam directly from DNF, not via flatpak.
Has anyone dealt with these issues and have an idea of what I'm missing?

A Sweeping Journey Down The Path In The Woods: Slay The Princess Pristine Cut Interview
Attempting to get “The Hidden: Source” running.
After following a Redditors post, was able to get it to run using Bottles, latest wine-ge runner. It basically works by having Steam Client installed in a wine prefix. Then installing “Source SDK Base 2006” tool within Steam, under that prefix. Finally, the “GHSI.exe” mod (it’s just an installer for The Hidden) is installed on top of that wine prefix.
The GHSI installer won’t work on Linux by default since the script was designed around windows. All the script really does is ensure the SDK is installed, then extracts the mod files in “sourcemods” folder in Steam root folder.
I basically recreated those steps in an effort to just use Steam regularly on the Steam Deck. Basically I installed the 2006 SDK, exracted the mod where the script wanted it, restarted Steam and there it was in my Steam Library.
The thing is, the mod doesn’t launch itself. Rather it uses the SDK to launch, kind of like a parameter if you will. So I set the compatability layer on the SDK to Proton Experimental and launched The Hidden in Steam. It actually worked and brought me to the main menu.
The only issue I’m having is the game seems to just close when I try to play a match. Now compared to the to whole bottle method, that one actually worked fully.
I would much rather have it just normally installed on Steam but I believe Proton may be the culprit. Although I’m not sure as the game will launch each time. It just won’t go launch a match.
Any ideas what could be causing this issue? Appreciate any advice thank you.

Steam's shader cache is broken for SF6 can I stop it just for one game?
So, Steam download precompiled shaders or however they are called. Only for Street Fighter 6 are these shaders broken and show distracting and weird colors on some stages and effects.
Is there any way to disable them for a single game? I had to disable them for every game but I do want to have them for almost every other game.

I am considering switching my system to Nobara
I have been using Windows for many years. I have an old gaming computer with a CPU and ddr3 ram from 2014. Now the new Windows is starting to slow down and I'm tired of it. I have used debian based linux distributions before (not for gaming)
But now I think it's time to switch to Linux completely. As someone with some Linux experience, what should I pay attention to?

DLSS 4 & multi frame generation
Edit: The images I uploaded didn't appear on the post for some reason, but here's a link to them.
Earlier today someone told me there's not much information of DLSS 4 & multi frame generation and thought it wasn't working in Linux, but as far as I know it has worked day 1, or at least when I got my 5080 it was working.
The first image is with x4 frame generation, the third is with x3. The main issue I get is text and icons from the HUD get a blurry/motion artefacting which is a lot worse on x4 than on x3. These issues seem less pronounced on Windows, though on x4 you still see a lot more artefacting than x3.
The only game I have currently installed on Linux which supports both is Hogwart's Legacy so I used it to show the features. A while back I had some issues with the game crashing when attempting to launch which forced me to reinstall the game and since then it has given me performance issues, sometimes it runs fine with good fps and others I get terribly low fps even with frame generation enabled, this time it was the latter. When I do get good fps it's usually around 80-120 with frame gen, ray reconstruction and raytracing set to their maximum setting.

Mint or Bazzite???
Basically the tittle. I want to try to learn Linux, but i don't want to give up on games. I play some multiplayer games like TF2 and Overwatch and both work on Steam Deck so i expect them to work on Linux regardless. I have installed Nvidia GPU (1660ti) and i also use gamepads from Xbox, Playstation and 3rd parties.
I currentry deciding to install Bazzite or Mint 21.3 Edge, while gaming is first i also need to tinker with the system to learn stuff and i am not sure that Bazzite is good for multitasking. Or it doen't really matter? I just need to hear your opinions to make the dessigion, thanks in advance.
