Radeon RX 7000 series owners using Linux: little help needed

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 10:45

Howdy! I work on a little project that analyses and parses Radeon PowerPlay Tables. Iif you remember Igor's MorePowerTool, it is something among that line. I am currently trying to understand whether the Radeon RX 7000 series exposes the pp_table file in the sysfs.

I do not own RX 7000 card myself to check by myself, but if you are a luck owner, would you please mind sharing the following:

  1. Check if pp_table file exists in /sys/class/drm/cardX/device (X is normally 0 or 1)
  2. If it does, copy the pp_table and share with yours truly
  3. Share the card maker & model name

Lutris help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 10:40

I would like to transfer my AC Mirage game from the Heroic Games Launcher to Lutris. Unfortunately, I can't log into Lutris with my Epic ID (For reasons I don't want to get into). Can I simply take the AC Mirage .desktop file and add it to Lutris so it appears in my library and apon launching it from lutris it will launch Heroic then the game without any issues?

Nature-expanding tile-stacking puzzler 'Preserve' has a demo up on Steam

Gaming on Linux - 25. März 2024 - 10:26
Preserve looks very sweet. A tile-based puzzle game all about nature that features both horizontal and vertical building and there's a Native Linux demo now available to try out.

A Simple script to create/handle named symbolic links to compatdata folders.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 10:18

I often browse the compatdata drive_c folders of my Steam games, and manually make links to make it easier. I asked Copilot to write a quick Python script to automatically create named symlinks to the correct folders, and remove symlinks that point to a removed game. Just needed a quick manual fix and it's ready to go.

Steam Deck and Desktop Steam Beta fixes a Steam Play bug with Windows versions

Gaming on Linux - 25. März 2024 - 10:14
Valve released a fresh Steam Beta Client update on March 22nd, and with it a bunch of bug fixes for both Steam Deck and Desktop Steam.

I just switched to Linux and i feel like i got a new PC.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 09:49

I don't know why but Linux just fixed a lot of problems i had on Windows. For example my steam download speed on Windows sucks hard, 15MB/s max and stuttering a lot. I thought my SSD is just dying cuz i always had that issue on both win10 and 11. But after installing Nobara Linux i got really surprised because my download speed is 60MB/s without any stuttering.

Games also run much better which is weird tbh, i thought the performance is going to be a bit worse than windows. But after i tried Remnant 2 and Last Epoch i got surprised, i had MUCH more FPS on highest settings and less drops.

I'm making this post for anyone thinking about trying Linux. Just do it and check if its better or worse than windows for you. For me it's a gamechanger and i dont even think about using windows again.

how do I pass launch options under bottles?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 06:30

"sv_cheats is read only" is the error I get in RealRTCW. To fix this on steam, you use "+set sv_cheats 1" but I am not sure how in Bottles.

the way I had tried is

  1. Press 3 dots (in the programs list)
  2. Click "Change launch options..."
  3. Under command arguments, I enter "+set sv_cheats 1"
  4. Then press apply

It doesn't work, and I don't if the game is ignoring the launch options or if bottles doesn't see it.

PlayStation Access Controller on Ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 06:21

Anyone gotten the Playstation Access Controller to work on Linux? (Ubuntu 23.10, 6.5 kernel)

https://preview.redd.it/vn1sacw80fqc1.png?width=942&format=png&auto=webp&s=62fa950ec28835314654e90719b42865ed12b5e2

Most of the buttons on it don't work. The only buttons that do work are the joystick, the 5, the 7, and the center X button, but the rest of the buttons don't work. I don't see any output from them in `evtest`.

Here's the lsusb report

Lutris cannot start Steam games directly anymore... supposed missing ability to create user namespaces... (but I don't think that's true!)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 04:23

Hi!

First of all:

I am using OpenSuse Tumbeweed with KDE Plasma 6 on X11 and I can start Steam and Steam games from within the KDE start menu just fine...

Also the Steam Runner in Lutris (in the left side panel) starts without any problems.
All my Steam games show up in Lutris and up until a few weeks ago they would also start perfectly with their individual Lutris configurations.

But now I get the following message and STeam cannot start (but only if the game start is initialized directly from within Lutris! - starting with the KDE start menu works!) :

Steam on Linux now requires the ability to create new user namespaces.

If the file /proc/sys/kernel/unprivileged_userns_clone exists, check that it contains value 1.

If the file /proc/sys/user/max_user_namespaces exists, check that its value is high enough.

These hints are not helpful as neither /proc/sys/kernel/unprivileged_userns_clone
nor /proc/sys/user/max_user_namespaces exists. Obviously also those are not needed - as mentioned - Steam and Steam games start without any issue if not started with Lutris.

I would really like to fix this because I like the comfort of changing proton versions or test some custom configurations as offered by Lutris. But I have no idea how to even start solving this - I reinstalled Lutris but that didn't help...

Any ideas? Thx, p.

How to force steam always to start with a scaled UI?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 04:03

Hi!

On OpenSuse Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma 6 I use Lutris/Steam for some games...
Since Steam doesn't respect my desktop scaling of 150% I use a start parameter for the steam application launcher: -forcedesktopscaling 2

With that Steam starts with a double sized UI (which looks well oversized and out of place and is uncannily clunky but at least I can read it!).

Now if I start a game directly Steam starts without the upscale unless I add the same start parameter to the specific application launcher...

Is there a way to set this globally so I do not have to edit every single application launcher for every Steam game in the start menu?

Thx, p.

Visual bugs when downsampling Team Fortress 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 03:33

I am using gamescope to downsample in tf2, but for some reason there is a translucent copy of my screen in the top right corner, and I have no idea what causes this.

I understand if the only solution is to stop downsampling.

Why Steam updates games so often?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 03:27

This is literally the second time GTA IV updates today in two hours, and while it is shaders now most times it doesn't state what it is, so is always shaders or it could be something else?

Dragons Dogma 2 Graphics Reset Upon Restart

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 03:20

Hello all! I am playing on Fedora Linux 39 (Bazzite) and every time I restart Dragons Dogma 2 it pops up with a message "Your graphics settings have been adjusted to match your system setup" and resets all my graphics to low. I have a 7900xtx and a 7800x3d, so it should not be doing that. I am also using Proton GE 9-2.

I lament that I currently cannot get any pictures or anything until Denuvo graciously lets me play my game that I paid $70 USD for, as I got locked out until later tomorrow due to Proton swapping.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: Typos

Steam Font Size on Fedora 39

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 03:09

I downloaded steam (and Runelite) but the fonts/UI were so small that I couldn't read anything without putting my face against my monitor.

I looked on Steam forums and looked around on Reddit... couldn't find a solution outside of editing config files.

Then, I went to "Configure Display Settings" and changed Legacy Applications (X11) to "Scale by system" instead of "Apply scaling themselves" and it completely solved my problem.

I am sure most of y'all already know this and maybe I am just some noob (only been on Linux for about a week now bc I hate Microsoft). But I thought I would just toss it in here anyway.

It might look the same via screenshot, but in reality it makes it ACTUALLY legible instead of having to strain my eyes to see anything. This also helped solve my problem with runelite.

My question: Is this going to cause me any problems down the road by switching this setting?

Before the change:

Small font - barely legible

After change:

The game closed without any error massage.

I play on a Ubuntu 22.04 with Lutris using wine 9.0.
I also tried wine-ge-8-25-x86_64 and with GE-Proton 7-22 but with this versions the ingame menu don't react.
I deactivated "Esync" "Fsync" and "Easy Anti-Cheat".

EDIT:

144+ fps doesn't feel as smooth as Windows?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. März 2024 - 00:52

I have been dualbooting linux mint and windows. This doesn't seem to occur in normal usage, it's smooth and feels like its running at 180hz(which is what my monitor's refreshrate is)

But running games it seems like its not actually running at 144+ fps. This is happening in pretty much all games. The performance I'm getting is very similar to Windows. Some examples are Lies of P and The Finals. Both of these games I'm running at 1440p max settings around 200fps but it just seems to be smoother on Windows. I saw someone having a similar issue and they managed to resolve it but they were running an AMD GPU.

I am running the newest version of Linux Mint, vSync is off on all games, my GPU is an RTX 4090 and the drivers I'm running are the recommended ones from driver manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
