Linux gaming and Linux in general will never go forward with such people
I see people asking simple and logical questions and then you see every no lifer (i will not say anything else because i will get banned, with those ...) just insulting them and downvoting them. Now, i understand why Linus Torvalds is so Toxic torwads those people, god knows what he has seen with such people in the Linux community, i hope all people like you will leave the Linux community and do something else because right now many people want to come to Linux and you are here to make them leave and switch to back to Windows.

Thoughts on swapping my 4090 for a 7900XTX?
I currently have a MSI 4090 SUPRIM X in my build - running bazzite.
I’m unimpressed with NVIDIA’s drivers on Linux. I did see rumours they’d been recruiting more Linux devs, so that might be changing, but at the moment they’re a bit shit.
I can sell it for roughly £1.9k, I bought it for £1.7k. I can buy a AMD 7900 XTX for £700.
Would I be silly to do this? I run 5120x1440, so fairly high res, and play fairly heavy games - with path tracing and ray tracing etc (when it works on Linux…). I also run local LLMs via Ollama, but I think I should be able to do that with AMD too.
Thoughts? How silly am I being? Any advantages and disadvantages I’ve missed?

Dark Souls Remastered 60 FPS Issues / 15 FPS Drop
It's Platinum on ProtonDB, a game I always wanted to play.
But getting the game to run on 60FPS has been harder than playing the game itself. I spent 13 hours in game on Steam trying with different Launch Options, tried on Hyprland, KDE with X11 and Wayland. Tried changing the settings of Nvidia on X11. Tried downgrading my Nvidia Driver. Tried with Gamescope, always with gamemoderun, tried Proton Experimental and GEProton. It does not launch with Proton 9.0-4 for some reason for me. When I alt + tab and see the terminal with 'nvidia-smi' on watch mode, I see it on 60FPS on mangohud, so no idea what's happening here. But out of a sudden it drops to 15 FPS and it does not get back to 60. It shows as 60 FPS only when I alt + tab, but obviously cannot play while seeing the terminal.
Normally it runs for 60FPS por a couple of min and then drop it again back to 15 FPS.
Has anyone else experienced the same? I am happy for any insights on how to get it running.
If the game does not run on 60 FPS it's barely impossible to play. I know I meet all the minimum requirements.
Thanks!
Here are my specs:

Host: Z370 HD3P
Kernel: 6.18.20-1-lts

What do I do in this situation? I want to stay on Linux!!
It’s 2026—Is it time for VALORANT to finally support Linux?
With Linux market share on the rise and the Steam Deck proving that Linux is a viable gaming platform, the "small player base" argument is becoming less relevant.
We know Vanguard is the issue, but Riot has managed to implement it on macOS. As Windows 10 reaches its end-of-life and more people look for alternatives to Windows 11, there’s a huge opportunity for Riot to lead the way in competitive Linux gaming.
Who else would drop Windows entirely if VALORANT finally supported Proton or had a native Linux client? Let’s show Riot the demand is here!

whats going on with my minecraft launcher? java
So I'm trying to play Minecraft on Linux, and I got the launcher and paid for it, but I don't see Minecraft Legends on there. My friend has it, and it doesn't have a sign-in intro as my friend does. What's going on?

COD MW3 crashing (Lutris)
First off, Im a linux noob.
The crash happens a few milliseconds after every autosave. An error pops up saying theres not enough space and tells me to free up at least 5mbs. The game doesnt exactly crash, just quits to the main menu. I can start it back up and it loads from the point in the campaign where it crashed and then crashes at the next autosave. Idk seems like something is telling the game there isnt enough space to create save files because lutris (or maybe wine underneath lutris) hasnt "allocated" any more space than the game currently needs, and it expands this space only marginally and only after the game creates a new autosave file. Any way to fix this? How do I let lutris games know theyve got over 100 gigabytes lying around... I only have one 512gb ssd without any sort of partitioning. Im on zorin os and the game runs perfectly fine other than this one issue.

For anybody trying to install the XBElite2-dkms configurator for their XB Elite series 2 controller
Pragmata logs me out of my PC with any Proton version.
I downloaded the demo to check if it works. I managed to adjust the brightest and then it logged me out of my PC on the loading screen. This is the most strange to me, how can it even log me out? I would understand if it just crashes.
Tried Proton 10,9,Experimental and Hotfix (in this order). My PC isn't a beast, but it should start at least. Maybe Devuno blocks me for some reason?
I have a Ryzen 5 5500, Radeon 6600 and 24Gb DDR4 RAM (I could try 16 Gb so it actually runs in dual channel, but I didn't have an actual issue with this till now, other than lower speeds). Running Xubuntu 25.10.

Does your game run in a VM? I built a database to find out
I got tired of digging through random threads and forums just to find out if a game actually runs inside a virtual machine.
So I built a small community-driven database for exactly that:
The idea is simple:
- search for a game
- see if it runs in a VM (VMware, VirtualBox, KVM, etc.)
- or share your own experience
It just launched, so there isn’t much data yet — that’s why I’m trying to get some initial reports in.
If you’ve ever tested a game in a VM, it would be awesome if you could share your setup and results.
Any feedback is welcome as well 👍

why are some people so hyped for steam os
I don't get it — SteamOS is essentially just an Arch clone with a Steam skin. Why do people even care about it when other distros do the exact same? Isn't SteamOS just a useless distro that exists for the sake of existing? I've seen people online say they'll try Linux when SteamOS is released, but why, if it does nothing special? is the only reason people want to try it because it is associated with valve?

Anyone managed to get the Steam version of Test Drive Unlimited 2 running?
This so far the only game that I was not able to play after changing to Linux. My last try was the combination of a Wine prefix with the TDU2 UniversalLauncher.exe as described here, as that seemed to work for most people. The UniversalLauncher starts, but the game will then either tell me to use the UpLauncher or crash right in the loading screen. I am not sure if I misunderstand something with the startup process - I tried starting the UniversalLauncher.exe from the Prefix itself via Winetricks or putting the .exe and the Prefix in the Heroic Games Launcher and start it from there..
So several questions for troubleshooting:
- What is the right way to start the UniversalLauncher.exe after setting up the prefix?
- Does it matter if its the Steam version of TDU2?
- Does it matter if the installed game files are on a different hard drive then the prefix? Winetricks will always install the prefix on the system drive while the game is located on a seperate drive. So in Wine, the game is located in the Z/media/DRIVENAME folder.
I hope i covered all necessary details. Playing on Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon.

Is there any way to make Xenoverse 2 work on Linux(Zorin OS)
Hello, after the recent announcement of Xenoverse 3, the desire to finally play Xenoverse 2 hit me(again), but since I am a Linux user(Zorin being the distro I use) EAC ends up screwing with me
Last time I bought the game I ended up refunding because the game wouldn't even open. But since it's currently on sale on Steam, I would like to ask if there's any way to make it run on my system?

Linux 7.0 Kernel stability experiences?
With the 7.0 kernel now released I've been thinking about updating my system. Before that I want to ask you fine folks about your experiences with the 7.0 kernel (and adopting newly released kernels in general) for gaming use stability and performance wise.
Any and all responses are appreciated❤️

Metro 2033 Redux low fps and unable to run, HELP!
Hey, I had the urge to go and replay a fav of mine, Metro 2033 and Last Light.
But trying to run Metro 2033 Redux has given me a lot of issues. Trying to use the linux native version of Metro 2033 Redux results in the game loading just fine, but it runs at 20 FPS at BEST, which is unplayable.
I tried using Proton instead and the game just doesn't launch at all with proton.

Fallout 76 is unplayable for me, drops to 4fps.
I have tried everything I possibly can. I've played to about level 14 at the moment and I actually really want to enjoy this game becuase when it's been playable i've been having a lot of fun. This really sucks.
I am on a RTX 2080 card with a Ryzen 7 1700x, I feel like this should be more than enough to handle this game properly especially considering I play much more taxing games, but it just absolutely crashes to absurd levels of FPS when outside. Especially if it's an area with a lot of things going on, it goes down to like 4 FPS and the game becomes a literal slideshow. Sometimes if I stand still the game will recover itself back up to 60fps, and that's the thing. It plays at max FPS cap consistantly until it doesn't and it plummets to 4fps, it's all or nothing.
The only thing i can possibly think of is that maybe its to do with me playing with proton somehow? But looking on ProtonDB people seem to have no issues.
Here's the steps I've tried:
- Rebooted my PC
- Change iPresentInterval=1 to 0
- Set an FPS cap to 60 on my GPU control panel
- Updated NVIDIA drivers
- Put on gamescope, gamemoderun, switched proton, tried anti mesa lag
- Dropped settings down to medium and even low
- Changed to fullscreen
I'm out of options, I literally don't know what else I could do that'd fix this. If anyone has had any trouble with this in the past and was able to find a solution please let me know! I really wanna be able to continue playing but it's very frustrating to deal with as is.
