I think im finally installing linux but idk what distro to install

My specs r 1115g4 3.0ghz 8gb ram no graphics card and i have 128gb, i also have 0 experience with linux

• A different driver for every game: It’s ridiculous. I’ve reached a point where Game A works on one driver version, but Game B requires a specific Vulkan extension only available in a beta branch or a newer stable release that breaks Game A. You spend more time managing DKMS and blacklisting modules than actually playing.
• The "Out of the Box" Lie: I tested this on Debian (my daily driver) and even tried Pop!_OS thinking the "NVIDIA Edition" would save me. Same results. Stuttering, screen tearing in Wayland, and X11 feels like technology from the stone age.
• AMD vs. NVIDIA Support: I also have an RX 6500XT. Yes, the hardware is limited and weak, but at least it works. The open-source amdgpu driver is miles ahead in terms of system integration. With NVIDIA, you are at the mercy of a binary blob that doesn't care about your kernel.
• Wasted Investment: How is it possible that a 20,000 PHP card feels like a paperweight because of software? In Windows, it's fine, but if you value your freedom and use Linux, NVIDIA feels like a hostile environment.

I’m selling everything and moving back to a high-end AMD card. I don't care about DLSS or Ray Tracing if I can't even launch my library without a kernel panic or a driver mismatch.

NVIDIA on Linux is not a feature, it’s a full-time job.

My setup:

HP Omen laptop

Intel i7 11th gen (Tiger Lake)

RTX 3070 Mobile

Arch Linux kernel 7.0.2

KDE Plasma 6.6.4 / KWin Wayland

The Problem:

Every game would glitch/corrupt on the internal laptop screen when going fullscreen or borderless windowed. External monitor worked fine. Going back to windowed mode stopped the glitch instantly.

Root Cause:

Two things combined to cause this:

The internal eDP display on hybrid Intel/NVIDIA laptops is physically wired to the Intel iGPU, creating a handoff between GPUs on fullscreen scanout

KDE's Adaptive Sync (VRR) set to Automatic at 144Hz was causing NVIDIA to fail the display pipeline on Wayland

The Fix:

Go to System Settings → Display & Monitor → Display Configuration and:

Set Refresh Rate to 144Hz (or whatever your panel's max is)

Set Adaptive Sync from Automatic → Never

Click Apply

That's it. No reboot needed.

Optional: Clean up kernel parameters

If you tried other fixes along the way, make sure your /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT only has:

TL;DR: ray tracing is broken again, delete Engine & GameUserSettings .ini files in WindowsNoEditor.

Hi all. I wasn't sure what to make the flair.

As of yesterday, the latest Wuthering Waves update broke some elements on Linux. Previously there was a ray tracing issue caused by bad nvidia drivers that could be fixed by downgrading. That bug seems to have returned, although I suspect it's on Kuro's side this time.

Fix is simple.

• First, make sure you're on the latest version of GE Proton (as of writing, 10-34).
• Go to ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Wuthering Waves/ (or wherever you have the game files installed)
• Delete GameUserSettings.ini and Engine.ini
• Relaunch the game, it will recreate said files.
• Note: it will also remove your other custom graphics settings. You'll need to fix that, but just don't turn on ray tracing yet as it will crash the game.

Bazzite is currently installed on my PC and I also use the gaming mode on a TV via HDMI. With the upcoming Steam Controller, I would like to make the switch to SteamOS as previously planned.

Should I still wait for the official SteamOS or does the current SteamOS also work? If someone has had a good experience with it, I would change today and this will be my very last time that I will change the Linux Gaming Distro.

I'm using fedora 44 kde and when I try to launch to elden ring it starts loading freezes at 80% and stops responding. I tried everything but I got as far as screen starting to dim and it freezes and stops responding. But on my steamdeck with bazzite it works perfectly using proton experimental. It also worked on first launch but when I tried telepoting it run into this issue and that's it. I tried launching on plasma x11, I tried proton ge, I tried everything and issue is still there.

None of these command lines above did anything, all proton versions I've tried (Many Proton GE versions, Proton Hotfix, Experimental, Proton CachyOS) didn't change anything too.

Has anyone managed to find a fix?

I'm primarily a Steam user and currently don't own any games from GOG. I recently discovered the SoF games are only available on GOG and am really interested in trying out the heroic launcher on my Steam deck to play them. The first two games, not the dog-water third game.

To anyone that has played those games via Heroic: how well do they run? What kind of set up is required?

I've been making a few optimizations to my laptop with Bazzite. When I started, I had in mind something like “Void” Linux, which has a pretty fast and efficient boot time. Of course, knowing that Bazzite uses an immutable system, I tried to adapt this idea as much as possible. I achieved the results you see in the image, and on top of that, my laptop is running at a surprising 20 degrees Celsius with several applications open at once. This is definitely something anyone using medium or heavy distributions should do, It significantly improves the user experience and, on laptops, enhances all aspects of performance. How often do you do what I just did?

For some time I was playing Arma Reforger without any problems on my base Ubuntu. Yesterday I've switched to Bazzite to test it out and then this happened. That black triangle never disapears; I can change any graphic settings, try different proton via Steam, lower FPS... Does anyone else has this problem on Linux?

Hey every one i'm going to install cachyos from arch I used niri for a while and I loved it the best WM in my opinion any ways should I go with KDE or niri or both and does it matter with the performance or just use niri like I do these days

I've run the current version on proton hotfix, proton-cachyos, and proton-ge and I still haven't heard a single sound from the game. Its the only one I own on steam that has this problem. Ideas? I've already verified pipewire has 32bit

I'm trying to install it on Lutris with proton+ and it seemed like it was done downloading, I changed the runner and launched the game but the only thing that showed up was that error message (details here).

I didn't have that kind of issue while installing proton-ge so what did I miss here?

Hey there. I've got Warcraft running on Cachy OS. I've got a bit of a question about Cachy's Game Performance mode. I'm pretty sure I've done everything right but I am still very much a linux noob and I was hoping someone who knows what they're doing could check my work and make sure I've done all the "obvious" steps to make sure I have the best possible experience.

I installed Battle.net using Wine. I was unable to get the installer to work in Steam, but it worked just fine with Wine. After that, I added Battle.net to Steam using the "add non-Steam games option" and it seems to be running fine, and I was then able to use it to install WoW. Great.

I know that I need to enter the game-performance command, but where should I do that? Ideally, the command would apply to the WoW client but NOT the Battle.net launcher, but if I put it in Steam it appears to apply to both the launcher and the game. Is there a version of this command I can enter directly into Battle.net so that it only applies to the WoW client? I tried entering game-performance directly into Battle.net and it prevented the game from launching.

Am I making any sense?
